This Week in PlayStation Home: UNCHARTED 2 Space, MW2 Play Session, Items for Red Dead Redemption, & more

99 7

The UNCHARTED 2 adventure continues this week, as the celebrated franchise expands further into the wide world of PlayStation Home with the release of the new UNCHARTED 2 personal space. Situated in the heart of Pokhara, this dazzling personal space harkens back to the action-packed scenes of Naughty Dog’s award-winning title, where Nathan Drake and Co. battle it out with Lazarevic’s henchmen in the war-torn streets of Nepal. A true must-have addition to your UNCHARTED collection, this personal space will be available this Thursday, May 6th in the Estates store in the PlayStation Home Mall. Like they always say, a picture may be worth a thousand words, but a video is worth a million pictures, so check out this video we’ve made for you that shows off this exciting new space.

To celebrate the release of the first ever DLC for what is inarguably one of the biggest titles of the current generation — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — the Community Management team will be in the Gamer’s Lounge this Friday, May 7th at 4:00pm PT (7:00pm ET) to launch into the new multiplayer maps of the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package. You make the call as to whether you want to jump into the Bailout, Salvage, Storm, Crash, or Overgrown maps — just let us know when the time comes to set up the multiplayer session. More details, including host accounts, will be posted in our Message of the Day prior to the event start time this Friday.

MW2 Event in PlayStation Home

Also coming this week into the ever-growing PlayStation Home universe (which is currently expanding at the rate of your average supernova) are special items from the upcoming remake of the classic martial arts film The Karate Kid. Available from the LOOT store in the PlayStation Home Mall, these hot new items are essential for fans of the classic film that are anxiously awaiting the June 11th release of this highly-anticipated remake. Be sure to grab yours first thing Thursday morning.

Those of you that, like me, obsessively collect each and every unlockable reward from your favorite PS3 and PSN games in PlayStation Home will be stoked to learn that Rockstar’s upcoming sandbox-style western game Red Dead Redemption (available for the PS3 on May 18th) will unlock exclusive outfits for your avatar upon reaching in-game milestones. We don’t want to spill any beans concerning the plot of this sure-to-be-hit title, so we’re not going to tell you how to earn these rewards just yet but trust me when I say that, if you love Red Dead Redemption, PlayStation Home is the place to be when you are looking for people to challenge to a good ol’ fashioned Mexican standoff in the 16-player max multiplayer.

In other news, Sodium is getting yet another update this week. Be sure to keep an eye out for Vendy – the artificially intelligent vending machine-bot conveniently placed in the Sodium Hub to provide all you scorpion stompers with Vetoxade, the anti-venom needed to stomp the fiendish blue scorpions.

Finally, we want to alert you to a pretty awesome event in which PlayStation Home will play a pivotal role. As the excitement builds for the highly-anticipated release of METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER for the PSP, Konami, Best Buy, and Sony Online Entertainment will feed the frenzy by hosting a code-collecting contest that begins the month before the game’s launch. The CODE HUNT will have contestants 18 and older in the United States scouring locations for elusive Peace Walker codes, each of which gets them closer and closer to the grand prize. Hint: Hunters that visit PlayStation Home should keep their eyes peeled. The contest begins today, May 5th and will end just in time for the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker release on June 8th. Join the hunt now at http://www.konami.com/mgscodehunt and win big (official rules can be found at http://www.konami/user/rules)!

  • Wow, the first Home item that I would ever purchase

  • Awesome Update cant wait to get in there!

  • the RDR stuff sounds awesome. 18th cant come soon enough.

  • Snake? SNNAAAAKKKKKEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

  • I love this home space, but you know what i have not been in home for months.

First time i have posted here in a while too!

    DTS MAN

  • Trophies in home please! Not for purchases or anything. Just for visiting spaces and playing mini games. Bowl a 300 at the bowling alley. Get a strike while bowling. Complete uncharted treasure hunt. Things like this. I am a huge fan of home and of trophies, but some trophy hunters think of home as a waste of precious trophy huntin time.

  • does the new space have a game in it?..what ever happen with those? seems like they just fell off the map..any word on pool tables or poker for personal spaces? i like the varity of the spaces we just need more in em to do..a reason to go to them…i just dont understand why we cant..but any how..decent update..thanx again

  • Any update on when public voice chat will be returning? Or did it already and I missed it? Haven’t played Home in a long time because of it.

  • Very cool! Thanks, Locust_Star!

  • “but you know what i have not been in home for months.”

    No one cares.

What is Home up to now? 15 million users last I heard. And these retard still think anyone gives a damn what they think about Home.

  • Oh, and I noticed that this weeks blogpost was a few hours earlier than usual for the second week in a row….Thanks! Keep this up, and “early” will become the “usual” time and thats something I can definitely get use to! 8^P

    • We always try to get these posts out as early as possible, but we do have to schedule our posts to make sure they sync up with our partner’s announcements (in this case, the MGS:PW announcement, which Konami announced at 12:00pm PT today). That said, we promise to continue to do our best to inform you all about the new stuff coming in any given week at the earliest we can.

  • Is there any minigames in uncharted space? A personal space without a few minigames feels very boring. You get my money when you deliver fun mini games in the personal spaces you sell.

  • “our friends at Infinity Ward” Friends? Don’t you mean friend, as is singular. They all quit. Only Fourzerotwo is left. And you know he’s ready to join Respawn like the rest.

  • Will XI return in this weeks update?

  • Lol friends at IW. I will be asking the last two people at IW(fourzerotwo and his boyfriend) where our dedicated servers went.

Awesome home updates! Shouldn’t ruin this good news with crap about MW2.

  • I’m surprised to see the guys/girls from IW in Home. It’s just that Activision seems to ignore the PS3. Oh well, cool update.

  • TODAY SONY’S HOME, PSN AND VIDEO AREAS LOST A BIG BIG SUPPORTER ME!!

I WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THERE ENDEVOURS BECAUSE I BOUGHT A NEW PS3 AND CANNOT GET MY MOVIES BACK, I FIXED MY 60GIG 4X’S AS OF TODAY AND IF I CANNOT HAVE THEM BACK WHO’S TO SAY ONE DAY IL LOSE MY HOME CONTENT AND NOT RETRIEVE THEM BECAUSE ITS IN THE tOs THAT YOU CAN LOSE IT AND THEY DONT HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK, I’VE SPENT LITERALLY $1,000’S ON MY ACCOUNT AND WILL NOT ANYMORE, IM GOING TO SELL MY PS3 60GB WITH THE 250GB HARDDRIVE REFUB NOW AND MY PSP GO WITH NAME AND PASSWORD FOR THE ACCOUNTS, IM DONE!

  • yay! more virtual #2

  • @18 – polo155

That is exactly why you don’t purchase those overpriced movies to own from the PSN store.

You had to learn the hard way.

  • Shoot….Now I have to buy Red Dead. I’m a sucker for these unlockable items. Other companies need to implement this feature.

  • Keep on nickel and diming us cuz there are no other features people want. Home sucks.

  • “Contestants in the United States”

    Aw, that’s not nice.

  • will we see mor saints row 2 content this week?

  • is infinity ward planning on fixing the map pack so it doesn’t make everyone play capture the flag, headquarters pro, and search and destroy over and over again? why is it not like ground war (a team deathmatch every other game)

  • ‘sigh’ Can we play video and music in our Home space yet or did you guys completely cancel that? Can we get some final word one way or another. Its the only reason I was excited for Home and still the only reason I have it installed. -thanks

  • Only $4.99 for the Uncharted Space, a no-brainer me thinks, I’ll be getting myself that one come Thursday!

  • A “friend” of mine got the Uncharted 2 Personal Space early which I have toured and I can confirm there is no mini games or interactive objects within. Furthermore, the space is not spacious but if you enjoy playing virtual interior designer or just a fan of Uncharted you may be disappointed. Remember the one room Final Fantasy Space? Think that with stairs.

  • @11 (FredPunella):

Have another sip of the Kool-Aid buddy. There’s no way in hell Home has 15 million users — at least not active ones.

That figure includes millions of people who tried HOME a few times (because it’s free) and then never returned.

The problem with HOME: the massive gap between what was promised and what has been delivered.

  • kahope,

    I’m all deflated now lol.

  • Question: Will Infinity Ward people be in Home during the event? i sure would like to meet them. I love the Modern Warfare series. :P

  • You guys should do more of the “do this in Home and it unlocks “X” in the game” type stuff….I think it would make me log into Home more than I already do

  • Again no God of War stuff? I am very close to abandoning Home. While the Bioshock 2 stuff was nice (except the arms on the bouncer, should have had them angle out instead of keeping them at the side, and should have had a drill) it continues to ignore one of Sony’s hottest game properties inside of Home. You really should play more up to people who actually play games on the system instead of apparently shunning them.

  • We need more features instead of this stuff in Home.

Music, return of public voice chat, video, trophy room, basically everything from the 2007 trailer. It’s been 3 years since that trailer and all of that stuff worked perfectly then, what is Sony’s problem?

  • Awesome! Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker! :D
Red Dead outfits from game and an Uncharted apartment too? Very nice!

  • locust star
you guys should try putting some stuff onto home from some of the retro games that were rated as true classics (i.e. crash spyro, along with other psone classics that were true gaming classics)
    thank you.

  • Wish MW2 had full HOME support of game launching! Make it happen!

    • Speaking of MW2 and game launching, unfortunately IW will not be able to participate tonight due to scheduling conflicts (we will reschedule for a date in the near future though – so no worries!). Our team (HCM) will be standing in and hosting tonight’s event. Hope to see you all there!

  • I agree with the people who want God of War content.. GOW games are my favorite on PS3 and you have to admit most of the characters in the games look awesome.

  • WHY IS THERE NO GOD OF WAR 3 SUPPORT?

  • Very cool personal space. How about talking with Marvel to get some super hero content in PlayStation Home.

  • Whats the status of those personal 3D Trophies Room? You know….where your buddies could come and visit to check your accomplishments/Trophies in FULL 3D? There are videos of those cool rooms/announcement in Youtube. PLEASE….tell us you guys just didn’t quit on that great idea!

  • Well, according to BBC news, Infinity Ward studios are bankrupt and go into insolvency after their map pack release. Looks like this is a stimulus package in a very literal sense.

Enjoy the online multiplayer while it lasts.

  • sweet i might get back into home again :)

  • PlayStation HOME may be growing, but I feel it is growing in the wrong dimensions. Each week we are being inundated with new clothing items, personal spaces, or rooms. Yet all of this feels like a bit of eye-candy because it adds nothing to the functionality or interactive element of HOME. If HOME were a growing child of social gaming potential, it’s being tossed new shoes, a shiny notebook, a trendy toy, etc. each week but it isn’t being taught how to play a new sport, learn a new skill, or being given food to grow.

  • Terrible analogy aside, what good are shiny spaces when the limitations of our interaction are pressing ‘X’ or ooh’ing and aah’ing at the scenery behind invisible walls? Why can’t our avatars jump over benches? Why can’t we have different character dance movements or actions mapped to DualShock buttons so the flow is more natural? Where are the trophy integrations to encourage actual “gaming” competitive spirits so people can share achievements and compete rather than act like hooligans because they’re bored?

The UI overhaul a few weeks ago was a fantastic step and I guess Sodium was somewhat cool since it’s an actual game. But can you at least keep your PSN fans informed on HOME enhancement progress rather than these item updates? Not everyone is engaged in HOME so that they can dress their doll- I mean, avatar up with new clothes each week. (Yes, I realize the stores are your primary source of revenue but it’s hard for me to “make.believe” when the HOME team stops thinking outside the box). Cheers.

  • when will you be thinking about us and not your wallets?

  • Are we going to get god of wa3 stuff?

    and -_-
“For technical reasons, only EU users will receive a voucher code for the Home t-shirt when registering. US users will have their own opportunity to get hold of the item and they can still take part in ‘Four Days'”

…that’s not going to happen… right?

  • whats the point of appartment in home?
it seem to be useless no?

  • Cool, an Uncharted 2 space. If only I was into PlayStation Home.

Also, I don’t get why they market the game as UNCHARTED (capitals). When you pop in the disc it reads Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Sony tried it with PLAYSTATION 3 and ended up going back.

Yeah, I’m being OCD about this stuff, sorry.

  • @Vanquish23, good posts. You hit the nail on the head. They keep churning out personal spaces when they should be concentrating on making Home a more appealing place to visit and stay, more interactivity and exploration, more fun. The Home dev team seem to have lost their way. Wonder if they will be able to show Sony’s E3 conference live this year, after the big letdown last year.
