Thank you, Ami, for brightening my day even just a little bit. Easily my favorite FF from the PSone era and I’m glad to finally have it back. I’ll definitely be adding this to my PSPgo rotation.

Grow up, please.

Anyways, I don’t really understand the point of this blog post. If it had a release date maybe, but I’ve never understood the purpose of making announcements about making announcements.

That being said, I’m very much looking forward to the release. I’ve only played through FF9 once and I’m looking forward to doing so again.

Brave Fencer Musashi and Einhander NOW

FF9 is definitely my favorite FF by far. I would of boughten it but i beat it 100% back in late 2007 and still pooped out on the game lol

+ TheZed88 on May 7th, 2010 at 8:42 am said:

Awsome! With the exception of FFXI (and FFXIII that I am playing now) this is the only FF released on a PS system that I have not finished. The used copy I have has some kind of scratch on disk 3 that causes it to crash. Will be nice to get this digitaly.

News flash: The board game D&D was also turn-based. The video game genre “RPG” was coined from how the battle system of these type of games resembled the roll of dice. You will eventually learn that labels eventually get tossed around and corrupted in the name of marketing to “target audiences”. What you call “purists” are the people who know what originally defined VG genres: their battle/control systems.

And FYI – Lost Odyssey is a Mistwalker(Sakaguchi’s company) game that is published by Microsoft. You are barking up the wrong tree on that one.

Ami Blaire;

i know i graciously appreciate this impending release or rather re-release of this timeless classic. but since you are a vice president of marketing, i did have an off-key question relating to square games…
there are a few games that were NA only releases, and prior to the release of the Sony PlayStation in 1995/1996. there is one game in particular that i am referring to, the game was the secret of evermore. i know it was originally a SNES release but since chrono trigger was released onto the psone in FF Chronicles, was wondering if there might be some kind of cross company release into the retro market? again i am just curious about this one game in particular.
i am certain if some of these pre-psone games were to be released onto the psn store a huge amount of people would be all over these in a heartbeat.

What i dont like about PlaystationBlog it’s that they always do TBA release dates, come on guys you can be more serious!!.

+ DARZERO on May 7th, 2010 at 9:02 am said:

+ LpSquall on May 7th, 2010 at 9:04 am said:

Let me guess, this is going to be an E3 announcement just like FF7.

+ piratedrunk on May 7th, 2010 at 9:10 am said:

This is awesome news and I will be picking it up for sure.
Because this is the PSblog though it is tradition to never be satisfied with what is coming and immediately focus on what isn’t so first things first.

FFVII remake please!

Chrono Cross and Xenogears on the psn also please.

That said thanks for showing up to let us know about this actual classic.

+ fearlex on May 7th, 2010 at 9:11 am said:

Please make a compilation of Kingdom Hearts I & II like it was done for God Of War !!!

My brothers favorite FF game

Now bring Chrono Cross
*cries to Miguel part*

+ carter915 on May 7th, 2010 at 9:20 am said:

Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi and Einhander!!

What’s up with all the crap games we have on our US “PSOne Classics”… I can’t imagine that people actually buy most of the crap that’s up on there right now. There are a few actual classics, but most of them are bargain bin games.

I still have my original Xenogears case and games in perfect condition. I just can’t play it on the PSP like I do with my PSOne Classic titles. :(

+ sdmf4ever on May 7th, 2010 at 9:27 am said:

I have been waiting on this one for quite some time now. I still have my original copy for the PS one, as well as FFVII and FFVIII (have them on PSP now as well), but am amped to get to play this on my PSP…..that’s for sure! Now, how about some Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Alundra, Saga Frontier, and Fear Effect please!?!?!?!

+ darkmark1987 on May 7th, 2010 at 9:32 am said:

More PS1 classics please. I can either play them on my PS3 or PSP. either way for $10 it is pure win. You bring them I buy them.

+ Crotin on May 7th, 2010 at 9:55 am said:

There’s so many classics you guys can release on the store it’s not even funny, don’t stop at only the FF series lol. I swear if every classic was release on the PS Store, 10 of them would fill up the top 10 list of best selling games almost every week. Parasite Eve, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Brave Fencer, Einhander, Bushido Blade, FF Anthology, Chronicles, and Origins, Tobal No. 1, Legend of Mana…geez

Awesome Square Enix a beloved game title among several brothers including myself in my family. I do hope Square Enix plan on releasing the following PS One Classics:

FF Anthology
FF Chronicles
FF Origins

THANKS SQUARE, vagrant story and chrono cross if you know what i mean?

+ Reinheart on May 7th, 2010 at 10:14 am said:

why not just make a software for backward compatibility so we can use the PS1, PS2 disks then I can play FFIX already… OHHH I know you guys planning to sell AGAIN to make profit… OK OK I’ll keep quite :)

+ Cord on May 7th, 2010 at 10:14 am said:

I know this is only specific to me, but with the release of all PS1 Final Fantasies on the PSN, I will no longer feel ripped off for buying a PSPgo. The whole “PSP” part of the PSPgo is still crap, but having all PS1 FF’s on the PSP go justifies the cost for me.

+ Korlithiel on May 7th, 2010 at 10:25 am said:

Maybe this will lead to Vagrant Story & some other solid titles hitting the PSN, sure seems like all the other major regions have had VS for awhile now.

Regardless, this is still some great news. Though it doesn’t really excuse all the poor PSN updates since the new year.

+ megamixer on May 7th, 2010 at 10:27 am said:

I’m not big on Final Fantasy games so this news isn’t all that exciting for me. I’ll gladly take Brave Fencer Musashi, Ehrgeiz, Parasite Eve and Xenogears though!

+ megamixer on May 7th, 2010 at 10:30 am said:

Oh and Star Ocean First Departure and 2nd Evolution downloadable from the PSN store would be nice as well!

+ piratedrunk on May 7th, 2010 at 11:07 am said:

Your ps3 already plays ps1 discs like FFIX.
Ohhhhh you just like talking out of your ass. Nevermind I’ll keep quiet.

+ adventfire on May 7th, 2010 at 11:08 am said:

Is this post supposed to be some kind of cruel joke? DUH! We already knew FFIX was coming soon this post didn’t tell us anything new. How about giving us a release date so everytime we have a store update people aren’t asking WHY FFIX isn’t released yet?

+ iTofuMan on May 7th, 2010 at 11:30 am said:

Wow you guys are actually going to release a Classic game for the Ps1 Classic? I guess you are aren’t complete Morons!

Hopefully this continues and we see other great classic like Rival Schools, Tekken 3, Digimon World, Legend of Dragoon, Etc.

And hopefully some Psp games we have been wanting on the Psn for a long time now, like: Crisis Core, Phantasy Star Portable, Naruto:Ultimate Heroes 3, Kingdom Hearts BBS.

Anyway keep up the good work!

+ Andrefpvs on May 7th, 2010 at 11:34 am said:

Podcasts in the Kingdom Hearts fandom are talking about the possibility of a Kingdom Hearts Collection for the PS3.

I think that would be a very good idea.

@#2 Believe it or not there are some ppl that like to play games that don’t involve running around shooting ppl in the head for 10 hours a day.

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross for PSN. pretty please??? They are very good story ever! Pretty please??

will it be pay for online?

+ Sekoku on May 7th, 2010 at 12:22 pm said:

That’s… nice.

(FF9 is crap, though)

Japan has has Einhander for YEARS now. Vagrant Story has been in Japan for years. Europe got it while we got FF8. THEN THEY GOT FF8 AND WE GOT JACK IN RETURN. Not a fair trade, guys.

+ Sekoku on May 7th, 2010 at 12:23 pm said:

God, Square US is so clueless about things like this. :|
