Hey everyone! I’ve spent the last couple years of my life working on ModNation Racers, and now I’m excited to sit back, relax and enjoy it!
Lets begin with our Launch Trailer!
So I’ve just unwrapped my copy and I’m about to check it out. Now there are a LOT of things you can do in ModNation Racers, so I figured I would help you out on your first day.
Here’s a list of the five things I think are worth checking out right away.
1. Download Sackboy!
If you’re lucky, you scored a voucher for Sackboy and his Kart (one of my favorite karts in the game). The voucher is packed in with the game and manual, so make sure you don’t accidentally toss it out.
2. Career Basics
The first few races in the Career will teach you the basics: drifting, drafting, defense, boost, weapons and all the good stuff. A few quick tips:
- Use Boost wisely! Once you get out in front of the pack, manage your boost wisely. Save some boost for shields if you want to stay out in front.
- Learn to drift! Use the X button to drift. Drifting accumulates boost and it’s critical to getting around the tracks.
- Shortcuts! Keep your eyes open and watch out for shortcuts. The risk is worth the reward.
3. Track Studio
Track Studio is the bread and butter of creation in ModNation, and is THE BEST track creator, well, ever. It’s super easy to use and makes creation really fun. Want to try something a little different? Try playing around with the terrain before you lay out your track. It’s a different experience than you have seen in most videos and happens to be my favorite way to build tracks. I was going to list out some tips, but it’s probably best if I just point you in the direction of the Tutorials, which are informative and fun to watch. You don’t have to leave the Track Studio to watch them — just press the Start button and select “Tutorials” in the circle menu.
4. Hottest User-Generated Tracks
If you want to see what the community has deemed to be the hottest tracks, then the best thing to do is check out the Top Tracks or Hot Lap events in the ModSpot.
The Top Tracks event is populated with the hottest user-created tracks. It’s really easy and fun way to dive in a check out what’s hot. It’s a series event, so may the best Mod win! Hot Lap is also populated with user-created tracks. It’s another way to check out the hottest tracks, but there is a twist to this event. You get to race against the ghost of the Hot Lap leader; it’s all about lap times! There’s a new track every day and, if you finish in the top 10%, you’ll get a nice little reward.
5. Creation Browser
Probably the fastest way to see just how cool the creative tools are in ModNaiton is to see what other players are doing with them. To do that, check out the Creation Browser. To access the Creation Browser, simply drive up to and activate the “Share” station in the ModSpot.
Each creation gets a thumbnail preview so it’s really easy to browse. If you see something you like, download it and check it out. It’s a good way to get inspired and see just how cool the creation tools are.
Oh… and don’t forget to leave comments and vote! A lot of people put tons of work into their creation, so if you’re going to download it be sure to give them some props!

Does the game have Trophies?
The game is fantastic. One of the most entertaining games to date. I already spent hours creating tracks and stuff. And I really love playing split-screen…there are way to many racing games without spli-screen these days.

@Chuck Lacson *Sighs* Nah, what ever game data that was there was either deleted by uninstalling the demo or overwritten when I installed the game, I uninstalled just before I put the MNR disc in my PS3. Only data I have left from the demo is the save data that I imagine was just for options/settings. =\ Still a bit peeved about losing hours of “work” but I know it’s my own fault for not waiting until AFTER I installed the full game before removing the demo. Been trying to remake my track but like most remakes I can’t get it right, haha. With I took more pics to help as a reference. Oh well, trying again now..
I just got another e-mail with the air raid code which replaced the one with all XXXX’s. Can’t wait to plug it in when I go home.

The other ones R&C,kratos and nathan drake right now aren’t in the store they were only for pre ordering in certain places
What was the thinking behind the online entitlement for the PSP version? I get that those budget limited gamers are some sort of evil that you need to punish for having the gall to not want or be able to pay full price for new games, but removing what is a core functionality of a game marketed for its community aspects and then holding it hostage for the cost of 50% of the game? Ridiculous. You just made it more expensive for someone who saved $10 by buying used.
When EA Sports announced this plan on their games I swore then to not buy their games as long as they did this. Congratulations, UFG and Sony have just entered the same level of horrible customer relations as EA Sports, and I will equally boycott any of your games using this despicable practice.
“Race Create Share” just became “Race (single-player only) Create” for budget gamers. You broke your own game philosophy and are holding it hostage for anyone that thought they could save some money. Why don’t you just start adding an activation code to the game in general and charge for that?
Keep squeezing for every unethical penny you can get. I’ll be busy playing my backlog of games now that the TV season is over.
Anyway we could download a solid snake mod lol? Im loving this game so far, but online XP races is always empty for me…

Ya, so I got the code and everything for the Sackboy and the Air Raid guy, but I got the game at Best Buy and didn’t get a code or anything for Drake?! WTF?!
just picked one up today!! does anyone know how to use Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheel with this game? is there any in-game options??

I’m probably wrong, but still I’m pretty sure the online modes being region specific is in relation to your IP address and within a radius of the area where your ISP’s gateway is located and then it finds the nearest server for you and then you join one of several running hubs.
Next time I’m on I should probably ask where everyone in the hub is located to get a better idea of how it works. I do kind of wish the racing aspect wasn’t limited to the people who are in just your own hub, I think that’s the biggest problem with finding people and finding them fast.
loving the game so far… spent first day just creating stuff
I installed the air rade and sackboy dlc by redeeming vouchers i got but I can’t seem to find them. I checked my mods, no sackboy. I checked for this nova pack i bought and i found nothing. Did i do something wrong because i spent some money on add ons and took some time to download free voucher add onds but can’t find them. It’s fustrating though how i even paid for the nova kart bundle and cant find it. Any help?
Never mind. I seem to figured out where to find the dlc content now. I wish there were tutorial station in Mod Spot to help out newcomers like myself.
Im really disappointed in the online… i cant race with more then 4 people and it keeps disconnecting, it takes like 15 minutes just to find a match, region lock.. are u serious?? i plan on going on vacation this summer and taking my ps3 with modnation racers. How am i suppose to play with my friends?? and not to mention the loading… not what i was expecting at all.

Blaming the connection issues on the player is total bull, the servers are broken and the matchmaking doesn’t work at all, I’ve sat for 10 minutes waiting on players to join and nobody has. I try to start up and XP race and it doesn’t even TRY to look for any, it just instantly forces me to create one. (which nobody ever joins)
Don’t give us this crap that the game is just out and everyone is playing single player the game has been out here in the UK since Friday and I’ve already done every single player race challenge and token. You guys really badly need to fix the server problems and implement a much better matchmaking system. I thought you released a beta and a demo to test out all this crap? Did you not notice then “Oh wait, we made an online system that doesn’t work. How silly of us.”
I never thought I’d yearn for the day when a game had a matchmaking system as good as Halos.
Im sad. Little big planet isnt region locked. How will my PLAY CREATE SHARE group migrate to modnation. We already all bought the game but we cant play together.
Excellent job on this game. It’s one of the best games to be released on PS3 so far. I could even say it’s better than LittleBigPlanet!!!
Please developers, remove the region lock, my friend & I, he’s from Europe we were really excited about playing this game together. Finally a great kart racer for the PS3, please don’t hinder us from enjoying it.
Wassup guys. I don’t mind if it takes a while to implement the cross-region races, but please tell us if you plan to do it or not.
I was really looking forward to this game, but if I can’t play with my family overseas then we are just going to give it a miss. I do hope you allow it, because we can do it on the WiiCube Kart game with minimal lag and players from three continents.
You’ll get three more PS3 MNR sales if you add this function :D
Well there is obviously alot of support for the removal of region lock. Its seems kyle’s reply to me got around a few sites and people have started to post more about wanting it removed. Any update on its removal kyle?

I love this game, however, I am extremely disappointed in the match making system. No game should ever take as long as it does to get racers into a room. I would be on average it is a 5 minute wait to get at least 4 players to a single lobby. This is unacceptable. Even casual races seem to get maybe 6 at a time. Something needs to be done. I hope our voices are being heard as this community is run by us.

AW MAN I WANT THAT SACKBOY….. I dont have the money to buy the game anytime soon,though. Is there any way I could get it whenever I have the money?
Love this game. Played the Beta and the Demo. One problem. No customization of the control layout. This is unacceptable. Period. Almost limitless customization of tracks, mods, and karts, yet I can’t change the controls. I’ve played with the analog sticks as far back as 1997 when the first Gran Turismo came out. With the ability to change controls in so many games, I’ve always changed to this setup. To me, the control configuration is so different, driving is soooo uncomfortable. This really needs to be addressed in a patch or something. Until then, I will never really enjoy this game.
there have two problems for this game. one of the problem is career mode, this mode is too hard…………..a set of A! keep bomb to my kart . ……….what’s the hell…………
Another problem is region locked, i can not play with friend……..this is so stupid to do that things. i don;t think that it can improve server stability . this is so irreponsible and pointness way . Mario kart can play with other all over the world with lag free
I got the game today with sackboy mod and kart sticker I enter Code in ps store then my brother comes in all mad and deletes my account I make new one and start modnation but I have no sackboy. i enter code again but nothiing happens.HELP!!!
I just bought the game and i must say it is an excellent game “EXCEPT” for the loading times and the match making system… Please, if you really want this to be the best kart racing game FIX THAT!!!! An awesome job will go to the garbage if you don’t.

Great game been playing it almost 2 days straight 2 things i hope are patched soon though are 1-load times…..i think its kinda crazy you have to like wait almost 30 seconds for anything to load in this game and 2-xp races online i was in an xp gameroom and had to wait OVER an hour to finally have enough racers to do a race BUT all in all i think you guys did a great job im blown away by how great this game really is
Region lock & Sackboy :(
Got my copy in the mail yesterday, only to find out I can’t play with my mate that bought his PS3 last week bundled with Modnation here in Sweden. Ok, this is the crappy region lock issue…
Next issue is that when I try to enter my code for Sackboy, the game says it’s for the wrong region! So, the code for Sackboy is only valid in the US – so the game KNOWS I’m not in the US, but when it comes to trying to race my friend it forces me to US-servers… WHERE’S THE LOGIC?!
This game is a lot of fun but there are a couple of things that are killing it. We want to be able to race online with our friends across the pond in the UK!!! The online connection issues make it virtually impossible to play with friends because you get disconnected almost after every race. Speaking of which, we would really love to be able to host our own ModSpots to invite our friends into so we can hang & race together. We would also like to be able to stay in the same race lobby when we are racing with our friends. The load times are unbearable. Resolving these issues & making the suggested enhancements could make this game amazing. Btw these are the same issues I raised during the beta.
Are there any plans to let you play XP races with friends? I understand the reason this is not possible is because of cheaters who want to rank up. I couldn’t care less about ranking up. I would love the ability to play XP races with friends so I feel I am at least earning something. Please comment back on this! This is one of the biggest requested features most of my friends ask about asides from the load time patch.

I have not been able to play a race online so far! Fix the servers!! you guys should of done a large scale server killing beta test when you had the chance!
Good work on the game! I’m a 25 year old Canadian gamer who has been living in Tokyo for nearly four years now, and I’ve been a bit screwed over by region locks in the past… so if you guys really DO look into a work-around for that, that would be AMAZING and much appreciated. Tomorrow’s payday, so I’ll be ordering the game asap :)
Some of my items are missing. I use to have the toilet as a seat on my cart but now it is no longer available. Do you know what happened or what I can do to fix it??

Definitly an awesome game! some of the challenges in career mode are control breaking crazy, but other than that definitly great!
I have a question though
With all those different pre-order characters and one of the four bonus mods that came with them, will they all be available for DLC later on, or was pre-order the one and only time you’ll be able to get Kratos, Drake, etc. ?
Got modnation knowing full well i was going to love it, and i did. Single player and split screen are brilliant, and the creation ability is amazing.
Then i dabbled in a bit of online racing, got hooked, but increasingly fed up with being disconnected all the time. I thought it was my wireless playing up but nope, a quick google search showed up this thread and it became clear that its the games servers at fault. I struggle to even get on at all now, has ruined it for me sorry. Really really really disapointed. And the ‘global’ claim on the back of the UK version with regards to online play is ludricrous considering the region block. I’m sad now.
Just a question. Is the game going to be available to purchase from the PlayStation Store? For PS3. I checked and it was there for psp but not ps3. Just wondering because it would be much easier for me to purchase it that way.
have you guys been working on a patch for the load times? i haven’t heard about that since before you launched the game and its been a week. can someone please respond? i love this game but i’m starting to feel you don’t give a crap about keeping up with the game after it’s launched.
I’m one of the biggest PS3 supporters out there, but I’m sorry, this game is horrible. You have to wait two minutes to do ANYTHING due to the horrendous load times. The creation tools are crippled due to having to unlock components by playing the career mode, and the career mode is a joke because after the first 7 tracks suddenly the difficulty shoots to ultra hard mode where it boils down to sheer blind stinking luck as to whether or not you even place in the top five. I don’t know how many times I’ve played the 8th track and been in first, and not get hit by anything, be waaaaaay ahead, and then suddenly out of nowhere six cars magically blast past me without having any boost turned on and get so far ahead of me within 2 seconds that I cant even see them anymore and boom, race lost. It has happened EVERY time I’ve played that race.
I have the track memorized, I know where every shortcut, boost ramp and so on is, I dominate through 90% of the race, and then halfway through the last lap six cars just go rushing by at sub light speed with no boost contrails coming from the backs of their karts and disappear. Next thing I know, I’ve lost. I’m not missing a boost ramp, or a boost pad that they’re hitting. They just zip right past every time and vanish from sight. It’s LAUGHABLE. I read all these reviews talking about the ridiculous AI in the later missions and just thought they had guys who weren’t used to kart racers reviewing the games, but no. Every word of it is true. And since getting the most out of the track builder depends on how you do in career mode, the garbage AI makes this game completely worthless other than an online mario kart clone.
Aaaand now I find out that I can’t even play with my best friend in Australia thanks to a completely needless region lock. This utter waste of money is getting traded in tomorrow.
I can’t get over how long the load times are in this game, it almost makes me wanna take it back. also the AI seems really really uneven. The easy AI is easy, then the medium is suddenly insanely hard. This game REALLY shoulda had more polish before it was released :-/
It’s fun overall, just a lot of things seem a little inconsistent along with those two big issues.
Super long load times, and ridiculously unbalanced carrier mode AI almost ruin this game. FIX IT.
The rest of the game is great! But those two things need to be fixed ASAP are are just completely unacceptable if you guys want a long-term AAA game on your hands like LBP here. Reviews are eating you alive on those two points alone.
I love playing this with my gf though, its fine, its just those things.
