The 2010 FIFA World Cup Comes to PlayStation Home + BioShock 2, Kekkaishi & More!

82 8

This week marks a truly monumental point in the history of PlayStation Home, as one of the world’s biggest sporting events receives a dedicated space. PlayStation Home’s FevaArena – a virtual stadium devoted to the 2010 FIFA World Cup – will serve as the rallying point for soccer (err…futbol!) fans that want to play exclusive games, collect rewards and limited items, and indulge in their affinity for the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world. Start at the FevaShoot mini-game, where you can hone your penalty kick skills and earn points that can be cashed in for special rewards. Then head over to the FevaSimulation Center, and track the simulated progress of your favorite teams throughout the World Cup (and cash in some of those points for exclusive furniture and clothing rewards). Afterwards, you and your friends can hop into the Photo Booth or shop for exclusive virtual items (such as your favorite team’s jersey) from the FEVA Arena’s unique Mall area – all from the comfort of your console.

The FevaArena’s doors will open this Thursday, June 3rd for North American soccer fanatics, but a “Global Lounge” will be introduced on Thursday, June 10th, allowing over 14 million users from 32 countries around the globe to converge in one space to play games together and attend special events. PlayStation Home historians will recognize the FevaArena’s Global Lounge as another first in the platform’s ongoing evolution, informed directly by community feedback gathered from users across all regions of PlayStation Home.

BioShock 2 fans will have yet another reason to log in to PlayStation Home come this Thursday, when 2K Games releases their BioShock 2 Rapture Apartment. This visually dazzling personal space transports its inhabitants to the dystopian city of Rapture, in all its waterlogged, creepy glory. And, in true BioShock 2 fashion, it has plenty of Easter Eggs that only the most ravenous players will unearth (hint: try to figure out how to get to the second floor!) We’ve grabbed a few screenshots to whet your appetite, but trust me when I say these preview shots do not do this space justice. Pick one up later this week (or ask a friend for a tour), because you absolutely have to see this space up close for the full experience.

Anime fans will be treated to a full episode of Kekkaishi for one week, starting this Thursday. Watch the first episode for free in the PlayStation Home Theater, and then download it from the PlayStation Network by going to the PlayStation Store > TV Shows > Anime > Viz Media. Follow the journey of the legitimate heirs of the Hazama clan, Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura, carry out their family tradition of the Kekkaishi and set out to exterminate the Ayakashi demons that appear within the Karasumori site. And while you are in the Theater, be sure to check out the Killzone 3 video, courtesy of our friends here at the PlayStation.Blog.

From our daily Featured Game parties (we’ll be playing everything from LittleBigPlanet to multiplayer DLC from Dante’s Inferno this week – check out the posters in the Gamer’s Lounge or www.us.playstation.com/PSN/Home for more details) to our ongoing Top Avatar competition (this week is “Horror Week” – scary, eh? – check out the thread here), we have a new event waiting for you every day of this week (and every day that follows). If you haven’t been to one of our community events lately, we highly recommend that you log in this week and reacquaint yourself with the large and diverse group of gamers that make up the PlayStation Home community. You’ll quickly find that there is something for every PS3 fanatic going on at all hours of the day and night.

I also want to give all you guys and gals a quick reminder that PlayStation Home v1.36 is now live (we deployed this patch early Tuesday morning instead of during our regular Thursday content/maintenance windows, so it bears repeating). If you’ve not yet installed this patch, we recommend that you log in and download it today, as it will result in a more optimized in-world experience (specifically, you should notice that the loading times have been reduced even more). Helpful hint: If you notice that the yellow HDD activity light on your PS3 is flashing when you are greeted with the 1.36 patch notification, please wait for it to stop and then press X to start the installation process (Note: If you press any buttons while the yellow HDD activity light is flashing you will automatically restart your PS3, which is not necessary to apply this patch.)

See you in Home!

  • Good update – looking forward to it.

How much will the Bioshock 2 Apt. cost?

  • Futbol , Playstation , Heinekens!!!!! lol , anyways are you guys doing anything special for E3 ? E3 details post Jeff?

  • 1 more question , is it technical possible to integrate playstation Home on the psp ? it would be awesome , im not a playstation fanatic but i visit Home everytime one of my favorite games get its home space like Motorstorm , Uncharted , Little Big Planet , ModNation Racers ( mini games are fun) and more

  • come on you danes!

  • #7 no sry

  • i meant to say Playstation Home fanatic lol

  • I installed the patch and it still takes 5 min to load up Home. Wasn’t this suppose to be reduced in the last big update?

  • Here is the thing! When the World Cup is over will the “Global Lounge” remain in Home??? Like all other “special” events in Home they last only for a specific time. I think this could also be the case with the “Global Lounge” also.

We had E-3 event last year for the week of E-3 in the Events area of Home and it went away. Sony could make Home a “Global” application as it was originally conceived but the Senior Managers have taken a different route.

  • will something for HOME be announce at E3 and are we havent the same event for E3 like last year.

  • fyi the anime is already on the psn store just for thoses who didnt know

  • Wait! Did I read this correctly? A global lounge where people form other regions can converse, play games and make new friends with?

Where was that when Home first started off? I guess it is a small step to making Home what it SHOULD be. Good job Sony.

  • anything similar to the MLB TV but for the world CUP ???

    plz!!!

  • Thank you for the update Locust :)

Might I ask, are the 2010 FIFA World Cup spaces permanent spaces or are those temporary?

    • I’ll meet your question with a question of my own: What would you prefer – these spaces to be time-exclusive or permanent fixtures?

  • When will we be getting tv’s and stereos that we can stream our content off our HDD’S??? Please answer this stop ignoring the question… You guys showed it off 2 E3’s ago and have failed to deliver.

  • Will the space Xi be coming in this weeks update? If not, could you possibly give us a date on when we would see this space back online? Thanks! :)

  • The World Cup space sounds awesome!!! Looking forward to checking it out.

I can’t believe the World Cup is a little more than a week away now!!! The time when the whole world stops to watch the football is nearly upon us!

I pray for Messi and company to deliver us a Cup for Argentina!

  • I love seeing that you guys are listening to fans requests (as proof with Loco Island, The London Pub and now Rapture from BioShock 2). I’ll check out the apartment this week. BTW, Any word on the God of War Content yet?

Anyway, here is my pitch for this week Locust. Tell me what you think:

Open the third floor in the Mall. Up here, we can add the Sony Style Store. This store would sell appliances and it ill allow you to download games and movies in Home through the Playstation Store.

Next, We’ll add an Arcade (bigger than the one in the bowling alley with new mini games being added every month or so).

After that, move the Movie theater to the third floor of the mall as well. (In the original Movie Theater’s place, we can put a Convention Space that can host things like Anime Conventions, Car Shows and various other virtual events that will contain limited edition virtual items every time a new con is hosted.)

Finally, we need one more shop. Karate Champ Chad suggested that we add a store or two that specializes in Japanese and European furniture, clothes and accessories. These shops will sell anything from Anime themed items to a Big Ben Wall Clock.

Thanks for listening. This weeks update is awesome.

  • Off Topic but will E3 be live on the PSBlog, Sony’s press event I mean?

  • XxadrammelechXx

wow just wow, finnaly a region break. great job home team *applauds* this is gonna take home in a new direction :)
1 question.. what stores will be updated along with this update?? ty
    ~Buzz

    • The Sodium store will be getting an update, and NDreams will be publishing some new clothing and furniture items (including dance floor tiles). Additionally, there will be BioShock 2 furniture that you can purchase for your Rapture apartment as well!

  • WOOT! RAPTURE!!!! CAN’T WAIT!!!

will this space be the standard 4.99 as i need to project my spending this week??

  • nvm just looked up! lol

  • Question about the FIFA jerseys. Wil we only be able to get the jersey to teams who made it to th World Cup, or will it be all teams around the world? My team didn’t qualify, and I feel left out :(

  • Give me the features in Home that have been promised since its first announcement – TVs and stereos for our apartments that stream content from our hard drives – and I’ll be willing to start paying for more content. Otherwise, no sale.

  • I will most definitely be getting the Rapture Space, the pics look really good!!

So as usual, will there be other new items available for purchase at The Mall, that weren’t listed?

  • For people wondering what teams go to http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/teams/index.html to see.

  • Locust_Star,

I have a general question about Home and more specifically about its future. I hope you can answer this.

Come next gen, what’s gonna happen to our Home content? Will “Next Gen Home” be backwards compatible with current Home content? I would be very disappointed if everything I purchased simply vanishes and I wouldn’t spend a penny on it in the future.

I understand it’s too early to even wonder about this but you must have discussed this internally. So, what’s your plan?

    Regards

  • Oh this update looks cool! I was wondering if the presentation podium will return to NA for the E3 event

  • What ever happened to Home’s HALL of FAME and our personal 3D Trophy Rooms? When Sony finally delivers on those already shown features………then i’ll make the space needed on my HDD and make the time to hang around Home. Thank You

  • #30 Marcel I’ve seen alot of people worrying about full version Home and losing all their clothes.. I never even thought about a new console and next generation home. Thats a good question

  • This looks like a great update Locust_Star! So this new Fiia space, will it have mini-games? And if so, any unlockables? Everyone loves free. :p

    • Yes to both. You’ll be able to play the game, accumulate points, and then trade those points in for reward items. It’s rad!

  • @34 Yeah football, it’s all in the first paragraph. This space has been up in JP for a while, it’s really awesome and so it the shopping area.

  • Please, Give us some new news about Castle Crashers!

  • artform-fazeone

Cool update.. The global lounge will definitely be a plus.. The Bioshock personal space looks wicked.. Question though, When will we receive a massive update? THE FAZEONES LOUNGE

  • Thanks for the heads up Locust_Star.

That Global Lounge sounds like a terrific idea to meet fellow PS3 players from all over the world.

I was in the Beta for Home and remember region travel where I met many friends from other regions, but the Global Lounge is the next best thing.

Keep up the great work !

  • Will the space that opened up during the last E3 be opening again? I forget what it was called but it had a huge tv screen that was suppose to show live footage of E3 and the sony press conference. We even got some items from watching it. Is that space coming back soon?

  • English dub anime sucks, I hope its Japanese voice over with English sub.

  • Had my PS3 reboot twice without Home update installing, any suggestions?

    • Please see the instructions in the last paragraph of this post. That should address the issue you are experiencing.

  • Congrats on the first global space since closed beta! …And congrats on the futbol space!
You guys are doing an fantastic job!
    This is an awesome update!
    Thanks!

    ~homeboy79

  • @rjejr

When you start Home, look at your Harddrive Access Light (The small round one that will be blipping yellow). Wait for this light to stop blipping. Then press X to confirm the update to start.

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAL!!!!
Awesome update, I’m so excited for all the world wide soccer fans. This is surely a can’t miss in HOME this week!!
Mexico will win the World Cup!!!!

  • First the Ghostbusters space, then the Secret of Monkey Island space, and now (finally) a BioShock space. Will gladly pick up the BioShock space, but it would be even better if there were a large, public BioShock space as well.

When will we be getting a Sam & Max, Prince of Persia, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and/or Mirror’s Edge public space?

  • F*** this is fantastic kudos!

  • silverthehedgeh

oh wow a global lounge so i can see EU, JP, and HK people all in one room? and i cant wait to get the bioshock apartment playing the game and looking at this reminds me of the MP apartment, and is there music from the game in it like the in game apartment had? and is there anyword on the irem RPG space and/or the weapons that come with it?

  • @40: What would happen if Killzone, Resistance, and God of War get a anime adaptation. Does that mean Kratos should be watch in Japanese over English? What if I told you Nolan North decided to lend his voice in anime? Does that mean that you’ll boycott Uncharted 3 just because Nolan North lend his voice to a anime? Did you forget some of the anime VAs has also lend voices to Sony game like Steve Blum who voiced Spike Spiegel also voiced Ares in God of War? Did you know Hirochi Touchi (who voiced Father Nightroad in Trinity Blood) is the Japanese voice for Nathan Drake?

Anyway back on topic, nice adds to the PS home. I’ll probably check it out.

  • Will the Rapture Furniture be in a bundle?

  • YYYEEESSSS!!!!! FIFA!!!!!!
