Hoard: PS3 and PSP Dragon Combat Hits PSN this September

This fall, the world’s first dual-analog firebreather is coming to PS3 and PSP via the PlayStation Network!

HOARD for PS3 and PSP

Developed by Big Sandwich Games, HOARD is an arcade-action game where the dragon is the hero. Your goal: collect as much treasure as possible from a living kingdom that grows around you. Burn down crops, strafe merchant wagons, and — best of all — kidnap fair maidens and force the kingdom to ransom them back for piles of gold! But watch out for vile knights and merciless wizards, who want nothing more than to gain fame by slaying a dragon.

HOARD for PS3 and PSP

Collecting gold at your hoard will level you up and give you upgrade points. These are used to increase your dragon’s speed, breath, armor, and health. Your strategy in choosing upgrades is crucial to scoring the most points possible on each map and rising to the top of the leaderboards. You can also complete challenges to earn Hoard Rankings and eventually become a Legendary Wyrm!

HOARD for PS3 and PSP

Cooperative play is supported for PS3 (both couch and online co-op), so you can get your fire on with your friends. Three different game modes and dozens of different kingdoms combine with a deep reward system and leaderboards to ensure you’ll get your treasure’s worth on this one.

  • O_O This is looks really interesting, looking forward to more info from E3!

  • This game looks AWESOME

    Totally buying it.

  • Hah, this looks awesome. Glad it’s also PSP ready because I can definitely see this being a fun portable game!

  • Sounds like it could be lots of fun. I’m interested!

  • This looks very interesting!

  • Wow, it looks like a massively upgraded version of the Trogdor game! That’s a good thing, btw. If Trogdor was an unlockable (or DLC), that would be the best thing ever. Just so you know.

Otherwise, game looks great so far. :)

  • I wish they would make another Lord of the Rings:Battle for Middle Earth. This might quench my thirst for now.

  • This looks like fun. And online co-op is ALWAYS appreciated.

  • I was on the fence until I read ‘online and couch coop’. Now that game is a buy. Too bad Joe Danger didn’t get the same treatment. That would have been a fun game. At this point in the current generation of consoles, any game without online and couch coop is a fail and a missed opportunity. I’m looking at you Pixeljunk.

  • I cant wait for the demo there better be a demo

Joe Danger is a group of 4PEOPLE so i think it would be quite hard to have online. And Pixeljunks next game will have online.

  • Best dragon game on the PS3 since Lair?

  • Awesome! I’ve always wanted to be the bad guy! I’ll have to scratch together some funds for this one.

  • Is this two separate games PSP and PS3? Can I buy this once and play on both systems and transfer saves?

  • This game looks pretty interesting haha you get to fly around as a dragon and destroy stuff!

  • looks like it might be really fun. i’ll just need to see a little gameplay in action to see if its what im expecting. HUGE plus that it has couch and online co-op. looking forward to seeing more :)

  • Finally you play as the dragon! And like poster #15 will you only have to buy it once to play on both consoles?

  • Every time I see “for PS3 and PSP” I get worried a games a mini. Glad this one bucked that trend. These screens and description are pretty nice. With E3 coming up hopefully somebody snags a good video or two of it!

  • Wow, this Minis program really ended up working out well. Kind of shame it’s limited to that program though. Popping out this dual-console compatibility from beyong the 100MB range would be nice. All the same, this is a pretty nice looking game. Above all, hurray for co-op and all developers who support it (far too few in my opinion).

    • Hi Jeigh — HOARD isn’t in the mini program. It’s a standard “full-size?” PSN game for PS3 and PSP.

  • hi any1 plz know what dsay is naruto ultimate ninja heroes 3 coming on the PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

plzzz reply im a big fan of naruto and this game is coolllllllll
i cant wait anymore longer im a pspgo user i know that this game is now on UMD but im a pspgo user so i use PSN

  • ANY1 KNOW WHAT DAY IS NARUTO ULTIMATE HEROES 3 COMING ON THE PSN PLZZZ REPLY

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I’m interested, but I will need to see some gameplay footage or a demo.

    • Howdy! We’ll definitely be getting some footage out within the next couple weeks. The game will be @ E3 so I suspect some video will come out of that as well. Thanks for the interest!

  • The game that LAIR should’ve been?

Will keep my eye on this one.

  • Herozogwei with dragons? Ill be getting this for the psp as it looks like something I can play in spurts. Very cool idea, simple to.

    • >>looks like something I can play in spurts

Definitely! Most of the levels play in 10 minutes or less. It is structured as a score attack game–not dissimilar to something like Shatter, PJ Shooter, or Geometry Wars in terms of short-burst play. Of course, those short bursts can add up to hours pretty fast…:)

  • Looks interesting. So I’m guessing that this is a mini, right?

  • Oh and I noticed it sayed its a dual analog game….if that is the case then can you explain how this will work for the psp. Now its really got me second guessing….is this a mini? Or is it going to be released for psp and ps3 seperately?

    • Hi PrizeFighterX6,

It’s not a mini–it will be released for PS3 and PSP separately, but both will be PSN downloads.

On PS3, the right analog stick breathes fire in the indicated direction.

On PSP, you simply hold the X Button to breath fire in the direction you are moving.

      Thanks for the interest!

  • Looks good price?

Whats this about a new pixeljunk game?

  • Looks pretty neat actually. I like the graphical style (3D versus sprites/bitmaps) and perspective.

With a demo around the time of release it would definitely help win me over! :)

  • Wondering about the timer on the screens.
Does it count down? Not a big fan of timed levels.
Unless there is a mode to freeform some levels, once you unlock them?

Thats really the only thing keeping me on the fence for this one.

    • Hi Ashenshugura,

Two of the modes are timed–“Treasure Hoard” (collect as much treasure as you can) and “Princess Rush” (be the first to ransom X princesses).

One of the modes is “Survival”, which is not timed–you have to hold out as long as you can.

We’ll look at a possible freeform upon unlock!

  • Looks very interesting, looking forward for more infos.

  • And I just wanted to say that doing online co-op and couch co-op is huge for me, not enough games take advantage of of the “couch” co-op. I will buy this. Thanks for the PS3 love!

  • Awesome to hear about a *proper* release for the PS3. I’m really tired of minis with their lack of trophies, and they look awful on a large TV.

The screenshots on flickr are 720p; does that mean no 1080p when it releases?

Thank you so much for including local co-op play! Is it full-screen co-op with zooming in/out, or split-screen? (We prefer the former over the latter.)

Who is doing the music? Will it be HD audio (24-bit and/or losslessly compressed)? Will the fire and/or explosion sound effects be 24-bit?

Can all the trophies be gotten in a single co-op play-through? We really don’t like games that make us play through multiple times (unless there is a branching story/level mechanic, like Heavy Rain).

Are the buildings going to be touched up with shaders, bump maps, etc for release? In the screenshots, everything looks a bit flat/generic. The flames don’t even appear to emit light properly onto the models below!

This looks like a great game to play while we wait for Shooter 2! Thanks in advance for answering questions!

    • Howdy!

–1080p support is planned for release
–Local multiplayer is full-screen with dynamic zoom
–The music and sound are being composed by a Vancouver artist by the name of Adriane Lake. We already have about 50% of the sounds and they are awesome!
–In addition to trophies, the game will feature dozens of badges which feed into Hoard Rankings, which are basically levels for your dragon profile. Many of the badges will require replay of various levels, but can’t comment on the trophies just yet!
–There are some additional shaders and spec-mapping that will be added, but I’d say the graphics are at 85%. Some additional dynamic lights will likely be included–we already have dynamic lighting from fireballs and fire arrows.

      Thanks for the interest!

    PixelJunk Shooter 2

  • looks a a candidate to join Burn Zombie Burn and SuperStardust rotation. Will definately be watching this one.

BTW… local coop is a big draw in my opinion. It’s nice to see developers starting to bring it back. Thanks!

  • i might finally get some dragon trophies.

  • This game looks really awesome. I hope there will be a demo for the PSP & PS3 versions. This way I can see what version I want to buy. Like even though I can take Hoard on the go with the PSP. It might play better on the PS3. So it would be nice to see what one I want to buy. So please think about bringing out demos for the game.

  • Mr. Sigman,

4 player PS3 coop? Is that true?

    • Can’t confirm 4 player co-op, but I can confirm 4 player competitive as well as 4 player team (2 dragons per team).

  • neat

  • So, how does a twin stick game work on the psp exactly?

  • Nevermind, stick is for moving, X fires in the direction you’re facing. I’ll be getting it for ps3 then. I couldn’t imagine playing something like Super Stardust where you have to move to change the direction you’re aiming. Love the coop though.

  • is there some kind of new psp coming out soon with 2 sticks?

damn i sure hope so im in super need of a new psp just been waiting all this time for a psp2

  • Awesome! Thanks for answering questions!

Any word on if we’ll also be getting 24-bit audio?

  • Looks and sounds like Age of Booty re-skinned with dragons.
Which is not a bad thing

  • Show me a gameplay video and I will think it over.
