E3 2010: From the Stage

242 0

We have been blessed with the most dedicated fans in the business and I’d like to take a moment to thank our new members of PlayStation Nation for helping us to achieve nine consecutive months of growth on the PS3 platform. We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to enhance your entertainment experience on the PS3 and we’re so excited this week to deliver on this promise once again. Today, your PS3 experience already includes Blu-ray games and movies, streamed TV shows and sporting events, and unique original programs, but as we showcased on the E3 stage today, it also delivers cutting edge 3D technology and the most ultra sensory and precise motion gaming solutions available.

Jack Tretton, CEO, SCEA

There is no denying that Sony is the undisputed leader in 3D technology today and we are the only ones to offer an end to end solution to consumers. With four stereoscopic 3D games available for download already, PlayStation is truly leading the effort to bring theater-like experiences into your living room. There are nearly 36 million PS3 units around the world that are 3D ready today and with demos on the show floor that range from Killzone 3 in 3D to Gran Turismo 5 in 3D, you can get a glimpse of what the future holds as we alter what immersive gameplay means with 3D technology.

We are also experiencing tremendous growth on the PS3 platform and have already started the year with huge releases such as MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War III, MLB 10: The Show, and ModNation Racers. Many would call this a blockbuster year, but for us it represents just the first half of what will surely be an onslaught of brand new experiences with the PlayStation Move controller, in addition to richer and deeper experiences from some of our most favorite characters and franchises like The Sly Collection, Twisted Metal, SOCOM 4, inFAMOUS 2, and LittleBigPlanet 2.

We’ve also been working hard to enhance our digital entertainment offerings, which comes packed today with access to live baseball games from MLB.tv, premium original content from HBO, and 23,000 movies and TV shows from all the major networks and studios. We also unveiled PlayStation Plus, an opt-in and add-on service package designed specifically for PlayStation Network’s most avid power users. PlayStation Plus will provide subscribers with added value, access and convenience to special features like discounts on PlayStation Store content, free and exclusive access to select games, full game trials, and much more – all for $49.99 a year. A tremendous value. In the first month alone, you’re getting $49.99 worth of content for free. Existing features and services you enjoy today and have come to expect from PlayStation Network as part of your daily experience, will remain unchanged and free to access.

We set an incredibly high bar last year and we expect to surpass it this year by reaching our goal of 15 million PS3 units worldwide. When we say ‘It Only Does Everything’ we know we’re also making a promise to you, that we will continue to deliver new experiences and entertainment options that you didn’t even know you wanted today and many years from now.

For those of you who were not able to join us at the Shrine auditorium this morning, you can download the full presentation on the PlayStation Network.

I also invite all of you to virtually attend E3 in PlayStation Home where you can view our full presentation an experience a virtual replica of our PlayStation booth.

Thanks,
Jack Tretton

  • Question:

Is Cross-Game chat a feature included in upcoming firmware 3.40, and if so, is it for PSN + members only?

  • Disappointed to see nothing about The Last Guardian nor a Team ICO collection.

Any comment on why that is?

  • Good job Mr. Tretton! Definitely a lot of good stuff to look forward to! But still wondering where that Starhawk and Resistance 3 are at!?

  • Not a bad showing. I would have liked to have heard more about Last Guardian and perhaps more PS2 HD remakes.

Way better than the embarrassing MS event.

  • Good job on show, could have been better, but was a solid presentation all-in-all. Hopefully cheaper Move bundles will be announced, because as a family of 5, I can’t afford 4 Move controllers and sub-controllers seeing as I already own another console.

  • WHAT IS THE POINT OF PLAYSTATION BLOG SHARE???

    Where is:
    -cross game voice chat?
    -context sensitive PS button?
    -auto-syncing trophies?
-improved and more integrated web browsing?
-XMB interface clean up with better in-game XMB?

    SONY IS ANYONE THERE?

  • @HouseMorton … dude, get a life. This year’s E3 has proved itself the best conference, from crappy Natal (Kinect) to more Wii games no one cares about (except the new goldeneye) I really don’t think you think the same, you just want to think that because you’re an xbox fanboy and won’t admit it.

  • @phinnv8 I hope they block you for spamming the same thing over and over. SAD.

  • Thanks, but i’m sticking with waiting and PSN cards

  • jack…im impressed and im sold…i was deciding against buying the move but after this with strong titles such as sorcery, socom 4 and of course the mammoth killzone 3 backing it up…i am definitely buying it…was a great e3…thanks a lot for twisted metal to jaffe and team…waiting for a long time

but wht abt agent, ff versus and the last guardian
    resistance 3?

  • Awesome conference….really wish The Last Guardian would have been shown, but I will wait if I have to. Very nice mix of casual and hardcore.

    Sony brought it.

Jack Tretton, I love you. :)

  • You Guys rocked it this year in the E3, i just wished i was there

  • Where was Agent and The Last Guardian? And show some love for us JRPG fans!!!

  • Great, no FANTASTIC show of games. Best show of E3?

One question though…any word on next firmware update?

  • Gran Turismo 5 Collector’s Edition is coming !!! HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! How long did i waited for this news? YEARS! YESSSSSSSSSS!!!

  • Correction: Best show of E3″!”

  • yay for sony winning e3 3 times in a row.

  • Thank you Jack, for the games, the tech, and a great E3!!! 8)

  • Gotta love it ! but man hurry up with the second portion of the 3d update already . just broke down and purchased a 3d television yesterday . ohh a small note to those crying about X game chat . GO GET A CRAPBOX where party chat is ruining teambased game play , because people are too busy chatting with their friends to be helpful in games where communication is key . , just sick and tired of people wanting a CRAPBOX clone .

  • all those guys just hating on sony and on jack are probably xbots in disguise…this e3 conference was amzing even tho even there werent titles announced like agent

  • @107 I just want what I paid for, bring back other os and let me log into psn again!

  • Great E3 especially portal 2. I was hoping for a firmware update today, but oh well.

  • I didn’t hate this E3 conference (though I did think Nintendo’s was better) but it wasn’t great either.

About a third on Move, and too much of it golf. Yeah, better than Kintect, but motion has been around for 4 years now.

About a third on 3D, but not many people have a 3D tv yet, and since many have just bought an HD tv it may be awhile.

And a third on sequels – LBP2, inFamous2, Killzone3, Twisted Metal whatever, Portal 2, FF14 (but no vs.) several of which were previously revealed.

Had they shown Last Guardian or something else new it would’ve helped.

So, way better than MS, a very close 2nd to Nintendo.

  • we should be able to choose between the bonus for paying PS+, because I’m sure, some already own those games

  • I have to say on behalf of all canadians that have waited 2 years for video…..finally! and thank you. i also look forward to psn+ abd hope the rumour of core being included is true…as i need to renew next month anyway….also wonder if the sharing of games will work with psn+ games too…have 3 family members and not sure i want to put out 150 right away

  • Oh, and there is a little more info about PSN Plus (+?) across the pond –
    https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/06/15/playstation-plus-check-out-what-its-all-about/

  • ugh… im just gnna say im not sure if any1 agrees. but i cant figure out for the life of me why evry1 makes such a big deal about 3D. 3D isnt new its pretty old. nd if it was a perfect match for tv nd movies i feel like they wuld have started doing this a long time ago. i for one could care less about 3D…. i honestly dont care if it looks like something is coming right at me. id prefer if it wuld stay on the screen

  • but all in all id say sony did the best with their conference. they always do. idk i jus feel like sony is always more prepared and has better speakers but again it may jus be me

  • close E3 nintendo did drop bombs this year, ill say Sony wins E3 by 1pt.. Not huge win but a win non the less . its real close, Im the hardest fan out there and i admit nintendo brought the fight to us, some are saying its a tie, They did ridge racer for ds3 which was huge blow but we struck back with exclusive content and twisted metal . think we should have shown off agent and last guardian more

  • It was a fantastic show, the huge number titles show was impressive and I really take my hat off to you for focusing on the games and not just Move.

Though whats up with the lack of Kojima? Rising was only mentioned, and Kojima was complaining on his twitter. Whats going on there guys did Sony and Kojima/Konami have a falling out? I hope not……

  • Thank you …Jack / SONY for making me the loyal fan I am of the PlayStation family. No regrets….

  • @178:
I hope not as well…but Kojima did kiss M$ A$$ last E3 so it wldnt surprise me if something is up.

  • What happened to Syphon Filter for the PS3,and Resident Evil for the psp?

  • ThreeLeggedFreak

Hate to say it but 3DS owned it. Whereas Sony should’ve announced PSTwo classics on PSN and playable on a PSP2, 3DS stole it with MGS3 Snake Eater 3DS port and Kingdom Hearts 3D demo. PSP is dead and PSP2 is DOA. Congratulations Jack.

  • I enjoyed the Sony conference. You guys did well having to follow up Nintendo’s epic performance (seriously, I’m still smiling like a little kid). Disappointed with the lack of Starhawk but that’s just me nitpicking. And FINALLY!! Video store in Canada! Freakin’ eh!!

  • Thank you Mr. Tretton.

  • Great job guys!! Thanks for finally locking down big 3rd party exclusives.

    Now GTA V.

  • It was a privelege to be there at the Jefferson Auditorium! Round 2 tomorrow for E3!! :D

  • Hi , to all, I’m pretty exited about PSN+ I’m from Colombia in South America, but I’m using an North American account to buy my stuff, I hope that with PSN+ there won’t be any boundaries across the continent, because I whant to buy the one year subscription once it becomes available. I shire hope there’s no problem whit this and I really hope Jack Tretton could giveme a response approving or disapproving this way of buying PSN content, because every time the PSN goes to maintenance, I get pretty nervius on loosing all my stuff, by a geographical lock on the PSN store as the PSN Video Store. I love PS3 and now every body at the IT deppartment has one, except one developer tha has an X()x, but we are trying to convince him to go for the PS3 ( it’s a pressure of 12 PS3 owners, including our CEO), jajaja ;p

  • No, Jack.

    Thank YOU.

The press conference was overkill. Not only did you guys have that mindblowing-demo moment, but the exclusive third party content section seemed like it would never end, Valve was simply earth shattering, and Twisted Metal just resurrected my childhood.

I feel like every 6 months, we say it’s never been better to own a PS3.

  • Ok, the playstation move and HD gaming put’s Wii to shame! Funny my brother in law has a Wii. and lately he keeps asking us to sell him our PS3. The answer, of course, was a resounding NO!

  • Thank YOU, Mr. President!

  • looking forward to move and if i struck some extra cash i love to get me a 3d tv . playing gran turismo or the show in 3d would be awesome .

  • E3 Wass GREATTTT Buut Please Where Is:
    -cross game voice chat?
-improved and more integrated web browsing?
-XMB interface clean up with better in-game XMB CROSS GAME CHAT?!!

  • Home update 1.36 keeps on restarting my PS3 does anyone else have this problem?

  • Where the **** is Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

  • PSN+ a win! No PSP2 a fail!

  • Some what disappointed that there was no news on the upcoming PSP2.. but other then that. great show. I thought for sure that there was going to be one, specially since the last time the other two, Microsoft and Wii, announced something new, hardware wise, so did Sony… Surround sound is Ok.. but we can buy that from your guys away… Not at 199.99.. but still, disappointed hardware wise.. Games, i’m impressed but to many montages. Anyway, job good. left my room with a smile and an “Oh damn! TWISTED METAL!!” :D

  • Also, PS Plus… Great service.. only bad thing is.. once it’s up.. everything is a waste of time and memory. Also, i would have included the extended warranty too. Add the warranty and Don’t take away our precious downloads (after service is over) and i would have to say the service is perfect… :)
