Casting Call for Season 2 of “The Tester” Now Open!

46 0

As you may have heard from Jack Tretton’s E3 keynote yesterday, after a successful First Season of PlayStation Network’s debut original competitive reality series, The Tester, we’re excited to announce we will be moving forward with a Second Season! A casting call for Season 2 is now open at thetester.com.

So if you think you’ve got what it takes to compete against other hopeful gamers from across the country to win a job as an official PlayStation game tester, go to our casting site, powered by GotCast, and create a profile that includes a photo and video about yourself. Remember, not only are we looking for highly skilled gamers, we are looking for personality too.

We’re also adding a new twist to the casting process for this Season. There will be an online casting contest that will allow at least one lucky person to be voted onto the Season 2 cast by the PlayStation Community. So make sure to get the word out about yourself after you’ve created your profile.

The First Season of The Tester, produced by reality programming veterans 51 Minds Entertainment, debuted exclusively on PlayStation Network in February 2010, pitting 11 hopeful gamers to compete for a chance to win a position as a game tester at Sony Computer Entertainment America. In the 8-episode series, the competitors were put to the test under the scrutiny of a panel of judges, including Brent Gocke, release manager from SCEA, and guest judges such as David Jaffe, director and lead designer of God of War and Twisted Metal. In the end, Will Powers, aka “Cyrus”, beat out the 10 other contestants and won a job working for PlayStation’s Quality Assurance department in San Diego, Calif.

Take a look at this video for some helpful tips from Will Powers on how to make your profile a winner!

Look out for more updates from us during the summer long, interactive casting process, which begins today. Community voting will start on July 6th.

You can also still catch the entire eight-episode debut Season available from PlayStation Store in both Standard and High Definition formats.

  • I enjoyed the first one and second season isnt so bad either tho this is an off topic question, will someone please answer some of the questions that were asked on the PSN Plus post please? there are so many questions that should be answered.

Anyways good stuff guys, Sony’s E3 sure was great yesterday

  • Hey Kevin! Will you EVER PLAN TO ADD SUBTITLING to this show??? PLEASE DO! DO NOT LEAVE ME AND OTHERS HANG OUT DRY! PLEASE MAKE THAT HAPPEN!

  • Too bad I’m not 21. I was looking forward to doing this until I saw (on the video upload screen) this requirement.

  • Oh sweet god, please say you’re kidding.

  • @TrueVIIFan
    We don’t need subtitles….

  • @Dax_Australia
    About what?

  • @5:

Some people DO need sub-titles you ignorant prat.

  • damn its times like this i wish i had a cam

  • I already got my profile set up! Comment away!

  • add subtittle option for player of other countries, Latin america, and more :) i wanna be “TESTER” but i live in venezuela :(

  • Can’t wait, first series was immense (and Will Powers is a top bloke)

If i lived in America i’d apply ;)

  • Has that first guy quit already?

  • No he still works for them, and by the look of his Twitter (@UNCyrus), he loves it :D

  • sweeeeeeet. Loved the first one.

  • I wish I was 21 :'( . . . this is pretty much a dream job. I hope they’ll have this in 2 years, haha.

  • MAKE IT STOP! Can’t we get a show that is about the behind the scenes of a game being made…. you know…. something that doesn’t look like it was spawned from someones less than inspired free time.

  • As a developer, I hope Sony focuses more on Grammar and clearly communicating through TEXT… I don’t often see a tester face to face, so poor grammar and spelling can really make it difficult to figure out what’s going on.

    Clarity through Text is key!

  • @13

    Sure, what’s not to love;

The amazing $11/hour wage or playing the same section of a game over and over for hours at a time.

  • I’m in Canada, so I need a degree in Computer Science to get into the videogame industry. This contest is U.S. only, so I’ll educate myself into the industry.

  • Forgive me, I forgot being critical of something means your comment gets deleted, even though it was in no way offensive of vulgar. Sorry, but I offer plenty of praise and criticism where I see fit and will continue to do so.

Sony does a lot of great things, which is why I am still a PS3 owner — but deleting valid comments that don’t agree with your opinion is just absurd.

  • How about releasing it for the European PSN as well?
I’d like to see it this time instead of just being able to watch the trailer things for it

  • Excellent. Maybe Nauseous could host…?

  • bring nauseous back that dude was a boss

  • @Tjoeb123 They should have subtitles to these shows. Its obvious TrueVIIFan have some type hearing disability and need the subs. Saying we don’t need subtitles is being selfish.

  • Please no!

  • …not again, last thing we need in the world is another reality show never mind a follow-up to one. Shame on you Sony.

  • Game testing is a harder job than it sounds. Don’t be fooled, kids.

  • Oh god please don’t!!! This reality show is a disgrace to the tester job and believe me being a QA tester for a game company is nothing like this show…(yes I’m a QA Tester for a video games company)

  • How about a new show?: Who Wants to Be a Janitor!? It’ll be awesome! XD

Sorry, I know I seem bipolar in how I offer blind devotion in one moment and unforgiving criticism in the next, but when the prize at the end of a contest can be done faster and easier with an entry level resume, I don’t know how it could be found compelling. How about a contest to become a Sony executive? Or a set of 15-20 free games? Even THAT would be more exciting: at $60 each, that’s a $1200 value.

  • I would love to get the job….but I doubt I would win through some of the contests…and honestly having to sit there and do a challenge and then be told you aren’t good enough in front of the world is just too degrading for me to try.

I am going to school though for a degree that can get me in the gaming industry (and I hope it will :) ).

Although I enjoyed watching the first season, and prob will enjoy the second…I just cant see myself being picked, or winning (not that anyone cant…just I don’t want to put myself through all of that and end up with nothing, Ill stick with school for now XD). Good luck to anyone who enters though

  • Why is it that Canadians can’t enter the casting process? I’m a gamer, of age and willing to travel. I’m just trying to figure out this process.

  • I am so glad that The Tester will have a second season. It was fun watching the show and I am looking forward to seeing some of the same challenges and some newer ones. It’s the only reality show I watch. Thanks for bringing the show back for us.

  • You still need to be 21…if there’s a season 3 I’ll finally be old enough to audition for it then. Until then I’ll just enjoy the show!

  • I cnt wait, I 1st started watchin the 1st season mid way through but ended lovin it :) I’m still just a kid so I’ll b watchin, but I’m a ps3 fan all the way!

  • @5 Tjoeb123

Really? Theres still self centered people like you out there?

I say you should get suspended from the PSblog, and a call home to your parents, Than after you get smacked upside your head repeatedly until you have a hearing problem.

Than i think you will finally understand why subtitles might matter to some.

  • I really enjoyed the show great news…

One questions though: Some of the contestants on the first season were not what i expected from gamers that would join. How did a few of those get chosen from all applicants???

Anyways looking forward to season 2.

  • The Tester was really awesome imo, I’d love for SCEE to do the same thing, so that I could actually participate.

  • i wish i could participate but im too young…

  • Theres a lot of inept thinking at sony these days, this is proof.

  • I wonder is Sony Playstation Japan has something similar to this….

  • Hey, I have a better idea!

Instead of making another season of this, why not make a sitcom starring Kevin Butler, VP of Everything, and his adventures around Sony?

  • Even though Im to young to join, Its my dream to be on “The Tester”. The show really inspired me to become a Game Tester in the future. Thankyou Will Powers for being a role model for me.

  • Oh cool maybe this time they will get REAL gamers to be on th show, instead of people who are good at rolling down a hill in a giant bubble. I would like to be a game tester, but not on a show that seems to just be people who want to be famous

  • Oh yes! After a long break seeing each episode im glad to see that there’s going to be a Game Tester Season 2 pretty soon. Can’t wait to see what kind of challenges (maybe New Challenges aswell) they have for the testers.
