Guinness World Records PlayStation

Fun Fact: Guinness Breweries started the Book of World Records to settle pub arguments over the biggest, fastest, and best milestones in the world.

Fast forward half a century, and Guinness World Records now not only publishes the book that you probably own, but also annually produces the Gamer’s Edition; a records book devoted games and gaming-related achievements (high scores, etc). That brings us to E3 2010, where the Guinness folks dropped by our booth to recognize a trio of PlayStation milestones.

Scott Rohde, Vice President of Worldwide Studios, North America, accepted records for LittleBigPlanet with the Most User-generated Levels (2,463,073), UNCHARTED 2 as the Best Selling PS3 platform game and MAG for the Most Players in a Console FPS with 256.

Although we’re the recipients of the plaques, none of these records could’ve been set without you, the PlayStation gamer. It’s you who made the levels in LBP, you who bought UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves by the million, and you who make those MAG battles the biggest on a console.

So congratulations! And if a disagreement over PlayStation should ever come up in a pub one evening, remember: you’re now equipped to settle it decisively.

    When did the Guinnes Book of World Records start selling spots in the book to companies as a form of advertising?

    “Uncharted 2 as the best selling PS3 Platform Game?” Seriously? How is that even true? I’m guessing that means exclusive only with a very VERRY narrow time window. Since it isn’t the best selling First party game since launch and Modern Warfare 2 outsold it by miles.

    I used to love buying Guinnes books as a kid reading up all the cool records and stuff, not it has become a complete joke.

    all I know, not being a fan of modern warfare at all I’m happy to see M.A.G. Receive national recognition for such an accomplishment, I remember last year when boys were saying our ps3 would crash for such an attempt, but Zipper made it happen, and I’m still supporting M.A.G WITH MY ANTI MW campaign! FOREVER EXCLUSIVES!!!

    Speeking of the 256 players in per game in MAG. Would you guys mind ADVERTISING for it so that we don’t have to wait so long in the queues? How about posting here on the blog when they have events like double XP? Missed it last time because I was under the delusion that you guys would cover such important news since you did it for the 3rd party MW2. Seriously, throw some support behind this awesome exclusive game.

    And how exactly is Uncharted 2 the best-selling PS3 game? Don’t tell me it’s the best-selling exclusive, because it isn’t. Metal Gear Solid 4 is still the best-selling exclusive, and I’m pretty sure Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has sold more than Uncharted 2 still. Hey, even God of War 3 which released a few months back will shortly surpass Uncharted 2 and maybe become the real best-selling PS3 game!

    Lame awards if you ask me, but hey every little bit helps! Still, I’d really like to know how are they awarding Uncharted 2 this record, it’s just not true.

    This is cool, but as some people have already pointed out, MGS4 and GT5P are the best selling PS3 exclusives as far as I know. Didn’t Uncharted 2 just recently pass 2 million? And didn’t MGS4 sell about 5 million? And GT5P 4 million?

    You know, idiot, that makes the award even more idiotic. What’s next? are they gonna award LAIR the best-selling Dragon-shooter game on the PS3? LOL. And Platform game? Uncharted is a shooter-adventure, action adventure or anything along those lines, I dare you to ask around and do some googling, you’ll be hard-pressed to find many sources that categorize Uncharted as a “platformER” (the proper term, actually, platformer). A platform game is Little Big Planet, and that’s the best-selling platform game on the PS3, not any other, Uncharted 2 out of the question.

    And Uncharted 2 should have gotten the record for most Game of the Year awards ever, with 100 different media outlets naming it GotY.
