Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

Look for Persona 3 Portable on retail shelves and in PSN Store on July 6, 2010! For more info about P3P, visit the game’s official website.

Don’t forget: What about the upcoming Persona 3 Portable are you most looking forward to? Tell us below for a chance to win a SIGNED soundtrack CD! We’ll try and choose winners by the game’s release date (winners will be notified with a message sent to their PSN account).

  • There are two things I am most excited about, one is the ability to play through the story as a female character. It’s the first thing I plan on doing. Second, is that now I can play this great game anywhere.

  • Gotta love it because it’s portable so I can play it on my bus rides to school and in bed when I’m feeling lazy. The extra content is also nice. Should occupy a few hundred hours of my tiem this summer.

  • Absolutely thrilled to be playing this fantastic RPG on my PSP next week. I’m very excited to have the chance to take the new main protagonist for a spin and to see the updated social links and soundtrack offerings. I am a huge fan of Shoji Meguro and would love nothing more than this autographed soundtrack!

  • I never got to finish P3 when it was just on the PS2 because my job requires me to be on the road (and sometimes in the air) quite a bit, so I’m really looking forward to being able to take this wherever I go. Good bye half-finished novels and boring airport terminals, hello heart-thumping tracks, sweaty hands, and another iteration of the greatest RPG franchise in history.

  • Besides being one of the most enjoyable games I’ve ever played (that 150 hours went by fast!), it’ll make the 45 minute ride to class next semester so much better.

  • I’m absolutely psyched just to have another excuse to play through my favorite RPG of all time with new content and a more refined combat system. 2007, when the original P3 came out, wasn’t that long ago, but it feels like ages since that fateful day.

  • What am I the most excited about? Getting to finally control the rest of the party (duh :P) I cannot say how many times I failed boss battles because certain characters weren’t necessarily… being helpful- if you get my flow.

  • I can’t wait to buy this game for the third time.

  • Even though I’ve played through Persona 3 twice, and Persona 3 FES twice, I’m still looking forward to playing through yet again to see the story form a new perspective.

  • I’m just glad I found a good reason to play it again. And the fact that more has been added to the game, even though it went from console to portable only sweetens the deal.

  • I am very excited to play the female protagonist and also will like to hear the newest music on her side and also get the chance to meet new Social Links but must of all I get to play one of the best games released in 2007 on the go.

  • I’m excited that I can finally take Aigis out on a proper date! Our candle-lit dinners in front of my TV just don’t have the same passion they used to.

  • To be able to play as a female protaganist. Makes the game brand new. Different social link’s and new people to make each on work.XD

  • I am looking forward to not only being able to play from a whole new perspective, but also to finally having a chance to finish a game that I’ve started at least 3 times and come oh-so-close to completion. The addition of the fixes from P4 on the gameplay front also have me rather stoked!

  • Pre-ordered it months in advanced. Pre-ordered it at once place and then when they announced the hat I feverishly kept messaging the place I ordered it at to see if I would get the hat or not!

Been a big fan of the Shin Megami Tensei games for years now! Bought Persona 3 and played that through 2 times.

Bought P3FES and played through that 3 more times! Absolutely loved how many options and different paths you could take and getting to establish your social links with such a wide & interesting variety of characters was always a treat!

Now I can’t wait to play through P3 again like 2-3 times now but with the girl! Just to be able to experience how much of the story/dialogue has changed just by being a girl!

  • I’m looking forward to playing as a female protagonist. Not enough games provide this opportunity.

  • Let me start out by saying I have played and finished Persona 3, Persona 3:FES, and Persona 4. I am a Persona fanatic! Persona 3 revolutionized what I thought a role-playing game should be, and only Persona 3:FES and Persona 4 have been able to live up to that expectation. I am really looking forward to playing Persona 3 Portable from a female perspective. It will be fun to see how the new social links play out. Persona 4’s battle system was an improvement upon Persona 3’s and I am excited to have that battle system in P3P as well. Being able to enjoy Persona 3 on the go, without having to sit on a couch forever, is also something I am very much looking forward to! I love Shoji Meguo’s soundtracks too! Having a signed copy soundtrack of his would be an amazing honor!

I’m excited to not only once again be able to play such a stellar game, but just to be able to relive the the game that truly got me hooked on the SMT franchise with its beautiful art and awesome soundtrack to its epic story line. I’ve been awaiting this game since it was announced.

  • I look forward to dating Shinji. He is just too manly for the PSP to handle.

Yes I’m a guy, And no, I don’t swing that way.

You’re just jealous your not as manly as him. :D

  • I’m excited for P3P for the simple reason of having yet to play it. I’ve had a lot of exposure to Persona 3 and Persona 3: FES despite never having so much as touched the game, from watching friends play it and listening to the soundtrack, among other things. I have played Persona 4, though, and having loved it as much as I did, was ecstatic to hear of the PSP version’s release. I’m looking forward to the memorable characters, the excellent soundtrack by the infinitely-talented Shoji Meguro, the excellent story… I guess, I’m just looking forward to playing the game.

  • To be honest, I’m excited that great RPGs are finally coming to the PSP and Atlus has never let me down before on translations. Now I can enjoy my RPG on the go, while my productivity on projects at work fall through the cracks. It’s actually a win-win situation for everyone. :)

  • The thing about Persona 3 Portable I am most looking forward to is being able to play the game with a female main character. :)

  • The best RPG ever – the first one I played that was better than Crono Trigger – with its few problems ironed out and in my pocket. This is the idea that sold me a PSP originally – the idea that Persona would get to the handheld. I’ve been looking forward to this since before its announcement.

  • I’m just really excited to hear more of Shoji Meguro’s music! Honestly, I’ve never been able to buy the game thanks to the fact that I can’t find the game anywhere =[

I’ve always listened to the music though. I love it! If I’m able to get the game and the signed soundtrack, that would mean so much to me ^_^

  • omg omg OMG ! Persona 3 for PSP really !!
Im really excited to finally get my hands on a portable version of one of my favorite RPG of 2K era period. Persona 3 was sooo refreshing for it’s gameplay, graphic, mature character developement and best of all THE MUSIC. I can’t wait to check out the new stuff crammed into the psp version.

I’ve bought the soundtracks from the Persona series and I listen to them weekly.
Burn my dread – Reincarnation (the best IMHO),
    Persona 3 Original,
    Persona 3 Fes Original soundtrack,
    Persona 4 Original soundtrack.
So to be able to add the PSP soundtrack of Persona 3 and (drum roll) signed by Shoji Meguro would be just plain awesome and pretty in my Persona series soundtrack collection.

So pick me, pick me, I swear that I will listen to it often and it will not only be a novelty on my shelf. Oh and I will go pre-order P3-PSP right now :)

  • Honestly, I’m just looking forward to a chance to play this again, only this time on the road. It was the first game to really get me to play an RPG. Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, .Hack, Shining Force and all the others I had tried but could never get into. Then I played Persona 3 and it was essentially an epiphany. I thought “This is what an RPG should be.” The characters, the dungeons and the story were all unbelievably well crafted and the gameplay was as addictive as just about any other game I’ve ever played, so I think what I am trying to say is that I look forward to getting to experience this game on the train on my way to and from work every single day. All while wearing my Junpei hat, even on days when I have to wear my suit to work.

  • Because I want to annoy the people around me with ‘Tanaka’s amazing commodities’ home shopping Song

  • Nice!

I can’t wait to experience the story/dialogue as a new main character. Also, the impatient person in me is excited about the new maps where you don’t have to run around everywhere anymore, and just select whatever point of interest you want.

Also, new music! I’m an addict to the Persona music. Please release a North American version of the Persona Music Live DVD!

  • I could go on saying a bunch if lies about the game and hope I get the soundtrack.

I have never played Persona game before and after watching my friend play P3 at her house i decided to buy it. I love playing rpg’s on my ps3 and psp. With great reviews from people, I know i won’t be disapointed.

  • I’m looking forward to the new social links in this game, the revamped battle system (no more stupid AI blunders), and the fact you can play as a female now. Also, who WOULDN’T want a Junpei cap? ;P

  • Oh, where to start? Soundtrack update? Hell yes – given the sample clip, I say that with emphasis. Revamped female-side scenario? EVEN BETTER. In the face of all these upgrades to one of my favorite RPGs ever, the portability is merely a bonus.

  • I’m excited because SMT games are all about story as well as gameplay. These are the games that help evolve gaming into a distinct creative field instead of just following other genres. They lead rather than follow – sort of like the PSP itself. As a huge fan of the creators and the experience – i’m pretty darn excited…

  • I have boughten this game twice p3 and Fes, also got p4 too. of course I want to buy this one to0,its the best rpg ever and you get to play as a chick. I am current thinking about buying a psp just for this game. even if its half as good it would still be like the 3rd best RPG ever, p4 taking 2nd.

  • most excited about being able to play as a female heroine.plus i’m very interested about her social links with her many potential suitors

  • What excites me about the new PSP version of Persona 3?

I am pumped to be able to jam some Lotus Juice and some Yumi Kawamura on the go! No longer must I listen to the soundtrack on my iPod alone. Now I can be on a plane, train, or automobile and let the world hear the amazing tracks of Shoji Meguro, while playing one of the greatest games in Playstation (or any other format/console, for that matter) history!

On another note, I am just happy to once again be able to see the illustrations of Kazuma Kaneko and Soejima-san meld into artistic awesomeness!

That is what I am excited about! ’nuff said!!!

  • I’m excited about trying out Persona 3 on the PSP since this will be my first taste of P3. (Never got around to trying the original PS2 version)

I just started playing Persona 4 and I’m about 10 hours into the game and I’m digging that soundtrack as well. I’m excited to hear that some of the improvements will be in this version of Persona 3. Now with it being portable, I can finally enjoy this game whenever I want because I found that I actually play more RPGs when they are on the PSP.

  • Concentrating the game, adding shortcuts, reducing travel time goes a long way for the people who would actually take the game with them wherever they go. Plus, being able to play as a girl and make personal time with the digital bachelors is the closest I’m allowed to play as someone gay in games these days, so I’ll take what I can get.

  • I’m just stoked about the fact of being able to be a female and it ends up changing many aspects of the game (HUD,Social links etc). Taking P3 on the go is an awesome plus as well. :P

  • I’m most excited about being able to take it every where with me now. I loved the game on the PS2 (played through it four times) and can’t waite to love playing through it on the PSP. So I guess really I’m excited about everything P3P is and that it is.

  • I’m excited for Persona 3 Portable for two main reasons. The first being that I can take the game and play anywhere I want (something essential for us college students). The second, and my favorite reason, is that I can play as a girl and mack on all the fellas. It was fun playing as a boy and getting the ladies but playing as my own gender will be even better. :)

  • Persona 3 is one of my favourite games of all time. I always described it as the game where you could “Shoot yourself in the head and kill monsters at the same time”. Now I can say I am a beautiful girl that shoots herself in the head while I kill monsters. Plus I will make her date girls not guys :P. Can’t wait!!

  • I’m looking forward to playing P3P simply because it’s a great excuse to play the game again! The additional content and modifications for portability are delicious bonuses.

  • What I’m looking most forward to in P3P is returning the first persona game I fell in love (and on the go, YAY) with, with a twist. Playing at as a male character was fun, but I think with being able to play as either a male or female will make all the more enjoyable for me. I can’t wait to be reintroduced to the characters that gave me many hours of enjoyment from a different point of view of a female character and meeting some of the P4 characters from when they were slightly younger. I’m getting exited by the P4 battle system in P3P, I almost can’t wait!

  • I’m looking forward to experiencing the game again from a new POV with the female scenario, but other than that I’m excited for the new additions to the soundtrack, and finally being able to control my party members manually. I’m still trying to figure out whether Koromaru having better AI than Junpei was deliberate.

  • simply because…I get to date Akihiko <3 although just getting to play as my own gender in an RPG like this is reason enough.

  • And btw forget my comment :( I forgot that I am not from NA >_<
I am gonna freeze myself now and wait for the game :D

  • What I’m the most excited about is being able to take one of my favorite dungeon crawler games (including the GREAT soundtrack) with me when I’m away from my house. It was such a great game to play on the PS2! I’m also looking forward to playing the game with the female protagonist and seeing the differences.

  • I’m excited to have won your signed soundtrack cd. And I will win of course. If I don’t, I will be forced to spend my days sending dark energy your way- perhaps by asking my good friend Pale Rider or the lovely Mother Harlot to pay you a visit- all of which would cost me time and money that would be better spent playing P3P and listening to the nice soundtrack that would prevent all this unpleasant business. :)

  • The main thing I’m mainly looking forward to for Persona 3 Portable, is the chance to play through one of my favorite RPGs all over again. I could play Persona 3 all over again, but I’ve never had time to, due to my huge back catalog of games. Investing the 100+ hours into P3 again is pretty difficult with my current schedule of gaming. With it on the PSP, I can now play it on the go. I can play it anywhere, and at anytime. The changes and additions are nice, but I’m looking forward to reliving those great memories.

It may be summer, but I’m ready to go back to school!

  • Persona 3 was my first Atlus game and my first SMT game. I was unsure about it before I finally started playing it as I was never a JRPG fan. But man, was I surprised! I still recall last summer and the 150 hours spent on the game. 134 hours on my save file but I easily spent another 16 writing down fusion combos, testing said fusing combos and replaying floors of Tartarus after some unfortunate wipes.

So what about the upcoming Persona 3 Portable am I most looking forward to? I can’t really decide. I’m as giddy over the new content (female protagonist and Persona 4 cameos) as I am about all the changes brought in from Persona 4. The female protagonist scenario reminds me of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut’s Arrange mode (oh man that was a PS1 classic!); rearranged content with brand new content sprinkled in for good measure. That’s more than enough for me to dive back into P3’s world!

Can’t wait for the game. I’ve had it pre-ordered since Amazon put up the page for it! :)
