What PlayStation Move Setup is Right for You?

Now that E3 2010 is in the books and all of the launch details around PlayStation Move have been announced, I know a lot of you may be wondering exactly what you need to start playing motion-controlled gaming on the PS3. So, here’s a primer that spells out all the great options that will be available and how much it will cost you to get up and running with PlayStation Move.

PlayStation Move bundle set

The PlayStation Move platform consists of the PlayStation Move motion controller, the PlayStation Eye camera and, of course, the PS3 system. We’ll offer various options for you to choose from depending on what hardware you already own and what kind of PlayStation Move experience will satisfy you. Here’s a breakdown of prices depending on your current situation.

Move Controller

*The PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle comes with: a PS3 system, 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye Camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray game and a PlayStation Move game demo disc.

** The PlayStation Move Bundle comes with: 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray disc game and a PlayStation Move demo disc.

For those of you who own a PS3 already, the PlayStation Move Bundle is the complete Move package, offering everything that you, your friends and your family need to enjoy PlayStation Move in both single-player and multiplayer modes. The PlayStation Move platform is designed to be flexible. We’ve done our best to give you plenty of options, both in terms of gameplay and hardware, so you can customize your PlayStation Move experience to fit the way you game.

For the vast majority of PlayStation Move games, you can play with one motion controller when playing solo. There are some titles that give you the option to play single-player with one *or* two motion controllers if you would like, such as Sports Champions. It’s completely up to you. One title launching this fall that is an exception worth noting is The Fight: Lights Out, which requires two motion controllers to deliver the best possible experience, tracking both arms and your head with one-to-one precision.

In many games, when you’re playing against friends or family, you can all share one motion controller – in a game like Start the Party!, for example, players can just pass the motion controller around. You will need more than one motion controller only for simultaneous game play — for example, if you’re going head-to-head with a friend in a Sports Champions gladiator duel, you will each need your own motion controller.

PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move Navigation Controller is an optional add-on that brings directional buttons, an analog stick, and two face buttons into the PlayStation Move’s control scheme. The sleek Navigation Controller essentially replicates the left side of the DualShock 3 controller for familiar and natural control. At $29.99, we think it’s a wonderful supplement to the PlayStation Move platform, especially for games like Heavy Rain, where you control a character, but it’s not required for any of the PlayStation Move games. The DualShock 3 controller that came with your PS3 will let you do everything the Navigation Controller does in all PlayStation Move titles.

It all goes back to the PlayStation philosophy that every consumer is different, and everybody benefits when you get to make your own choices. An extra motion controller or a navigation controller are additive to the PlayStation Move experience. For some of you, aiming a bow and arrow with two motion controllers in Sports Champions will be the enhanced realism you’re craving; for others, one controller will work just fine.

Bottom line is, we’ve got you all covered. We hope we’ve provided enough great options for all of you out there and can’t wait until you can get your hands on PlayStation Move come September 19th.

  • hey can ANYONE tell me if there is gonna be a free game with opt. 3 because i already have a pseye and i dont want to buy another.

  • You left out Option #4, which is best for me: None Of The Above.

That’s the one I’m going with, having seen absolutely no compelling reason for these devices other than playing short-term gimmick-games for a few minutes as technology demos.

  • How many games will require two of these wands? Because I already have the camera so it seems Ill be paying more in the end because I was an early adopter, that seems unfair…

  • This can come soon enough! I;ll be getting the move bundle and a navigation controller and probably a second move controller.

  • Tell me when you have bundle of 2 Move controllers or bundle of 1 Move + 1 Navigation controller or 2 Move + Game.
    I will wait for it.

  • Looks amazing. I simply cannot wait…the only trouble is that this comes out when I have to buy my textbooks…so I better pre-order now…

  • @John Koller

Doesn’t seem to be a good bundle option for those that already have a PS3 and camera. Why not bundle the Motion, Nav, and Sports Champion for $99.99? Not a lot of incentive for existing customers to jump into the tech. Please take this into consideration for future bundles.

  • wow im getting move. but it would be way more smart and cost effective too put an extra move controller in the ps3 bundle and in the 99$ bundle

  • You need to consider doing a bundle for those who have already purchased a PlayStation Eye. I don’t need a second one. A bundle just like the Starter Pack but minus the Eye would be great. This would be good for the environment as people would not purchase Eye’s they do not need, and would also reward those who have already invested in the Playstation Hardware.

I would seriously reconsider you reply above. Those who have already added to their PS3 hardware with PS3 Eye, PS3 Controllers and PS3 Headsets are more than likely consider owning the PS3 Move controllers also.

  • i’ll find a better bundle from some retailer…none of these are working for me…all i need is, ps eye+move controller+navigation controller+sorcery

  • As I said I’m going to pass on this one, but you guys should learn how make good bundles from the big N. The reason of WiiPlay had a brutal sales is because the game included a motion controller. Add the Sports Champions game to the 50 bucks controller and you will increase your sales, it is kind of obvious. Hard to convince gamers who already owned a PS Eye on expending 90 bucks just to try something “new”. Also the fact that there is just 10 bucks of difference between buying the pack with PS Eye and buying the controller+ game it’s kind of absurd (PS Eye just cost 10 bucks?? really??)

  • I have heard that you have to put your ps eye on top of your tv for move to work is this true because I really dont like the idea of the camera on top of my $1500 240hz led tv.

  • Will the demo disk also be allowed for download over the PSN Store for us users who already have the PlayStation Eye?

  • When is Sony going to release a bundle with two ps move controllers and a navigation controller? I and many other people ALREADY have an Eye camera. With this bundle I would be able to play all move games such as socom 4, KZ3, the fight, sports champions everything. Could somebody please pass this idea onto sony , thanks :)

  • Will whats on the PlayStation Move game demo disc also be available as free downloads from the PS Store?

Also, do these bundles apply to Europe as well?

  • You guys really should have made the Eye wireless…it’s going to be impossible for those of us who have a rig where all our AV equipment more than 6 feet away from our televisions.

  • All of the current bundles look great, but, personally, I would like to see a bundle that included the Move controller with

1)the Sports Champion Game/and or Move Demo disc.

    2)another Move controller.

    or

    3)the navigation controller.

I can’t wait for til the release!

  • Sony should offer a bundle with 2 motion controllers and 1 navigation. That is how Im going to purchase it.

    Best regards

  • there should be a controller bundle with a navigation(terrible name by the way) controller and a move controller for around $74.99 roughly. though the only reason why i’m getting move is for the previously announced move dlc coming for lbp2, so i might only ever need to buy a single move controller.

  • 2 Questions

1.- the PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle is the new one with the 45nm cell and 45 RSX ?

    2.- Hard Drive Size Please

  • Is there any other way to get the Move demo disc than with the bundle? All I need is the actual controller, but I’d be interested in some of the demo material.

  • Why on Earth is there not a bundle that includes 1 Move controller and 1 Navigation controller for those of us who already have the PS Eye?

  • If the $99.99 bundle came with Sorcery I would be all over it but as it stands it is too expensive. Perhaps in another year I will make the jump if it goes well.

  • Gamestop says Move will be available the 19th of September, but then it says Sports Champions will be October first?
Is this a goof up or (if we already have the eye) will we have to buy the move and then stare at it until the first? :o

  • To the people in my situation, who already have a PSEye: yes, it’s screwing us over in a big way, but, and this is the simple truth, they just don’t care- at least not when compared with the potential of this launch.

The PSEye by itself was a failed accessory. It didn’t get picked up, sank into the background, and much like the poor saps who purchased Tony Hawk’s Ride, we’re being passed over in favor of financial security. We who have the Eye are in the massive minority, while the massive majority *potential* customers for Move do *not* have an Eye. Bundling as a favor to Eye owners would almost assuredly leave left over inventory which would make no sense to sell to non-Eye owners.

Bottom line: we’re getting screwed and that’s not going to change precisely for all that I have just explained. Boycott if you like, buy second-hand, or just get over it. They aren’t changing their minds.

  • I won’t repeat the specifics here since everyone else is saying it, but I also take issue with the “Bottom line is, we’ve got you all covered,” line there at the end. There is a really obvious bundle that is clearly missing.

  • @121, BrandersOn, I agree with you, there isn’t an effective bundle for gamers that owned the PS Eye, like:

    1) 1 Move Controller + Navigation + Sorcery.
    2) 2 Move controllers + The Fight.

  • I already have a PlayStation Eye so I hoping you guys would have made a bundle like this:

    ~ PlayStation Move controller
    ~ Navigation Controller
~ (Game that uses the Nav controller)
    ~ Game Demo disk

So basically just replace the Eye with the Nav at the same price. That would be great!

  • Getting option 2 and 3. 2 for my parents and 3 for myself since I have the eye. One thing. Will you be releasing a Move + Sub bundle or Move + sub + Eye bundle? I think it should be a no-brainer. You will get some angry parents when they get home with the bundle and the kid wants to play SOCOM 4 and then realizes that they need the sub controller to play. Off goes mom and dad back to the store to buy a separate sub controller? I just think it would make sense to bundle the two together. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    ps. love the Move.

  • Why are you dodging the question of the size of the Hard Drive on the PS3 Move Bundle?

  • Anyone now if the Nav controller will have the basic sixaxis of the dualshock3?

hmmm… If this Move thing is relatively successful I can see the control scheme being a default scheme for the PS4.I would hope that by that time, however, the cost of manufacturing and the aesthetic design is refined so that the PS4 controller is essentially a detachable dualshcok4 for the reasonable price of $50-$55.

Right now though, I’m finding it a bit hard to pay $100 for two Moves

  • I’m sure other comments have pointed this out (as I do not have the time to read them all), but it seems like early adopters of the PlayStation Eye are getting the cold shoulder. As it stands we are paying $89.98 for a motion controller + Sport Champions (the game included in other bundles) or $79.98 for a motion controller + navigator (sans game). Why not have price bundles for each?

  • You need a nav/move/game for $99 bundle for those of us that have the eye already.

  • will there be a hardcore bundle ie socom 4 ps eye navigation nd move 4 100$

  • I have a PS3 and PlayStation Eye camera, so I guess I’d go with the 3rd option… as soon as you make a Move game worth buying.

  • There should have been a bundle for those of us that already have a PSEye. Move controller + Sub Nav Controller + Game = a better option for #4

  • For all of those complaining about how using the DS3 with one hand will be difficult. I want you too try this and tell me if its difficult or not. With your left hand(while seated) pick up your DS3 place it in your lap and grab the left side of the controller putting your thumb on the L3 Stick and your index finger on L1 and the other finger on L2. Now come back and tell me thats difficult. it is very easy to grip and control. Standing and doing it is tougher but not out of the realm of possibility. Standing will require you to only have your index finger in the position to select L1/L2 and using your pinky finger followed by the other 2 fingers to grip the handle, while your thumb rest on the L3.

  • A bundle with a Move, Navigation Controller, and PS eye would be better. Why doesn’t Sony come out with a make you’re own bundle for $99.

  • P.S. – I love the Move. But seriously, learn from Nintendo and actually make at least ONE compelling Move title.

  • Will there be a special cord needed for recharging this controller? Is it rechargeable?

  • Move+Nav+Sports Champions (if you already have an Eye) for $90 anyone? Two Moves+ The Fight for $130? Come one? lol Ok, I’m done now.

  • For the first bundle; how much GB does the PS3 have? I’m thinking of upgrading to the slim.

  • Getting option 3. A price for that kind of controller? It’s definitely a steal. How much will you guys charge for the navigation controller? Cannot wait till the Move comes out in a few months (wow, very early than expected).

  • Stop your whining about how you should get a good deal because you’re an “early adopter”. Early adopters always get bad deals, like the mugs who bought a PS3 for $600 when it had no games, but you had the system right? And still do today? Hardware is hardly going to go up in price now is it?

  • “What PlayStation Move Setup is Right for You?”

    The non-existant one.

Seriously, not interested and never will be. *real* controllers for life.

“The DualShock 3 controller that came with your PS3”

My PS3 came with a Sixaxis. :| They’re always so quick to forget the early adopters. :(

  • I pre-ordered the Move Bundle and an extra Move controller. That’s 150.

Even though I have a PS3Eye already, if I was to buy all these separately. It’s 100 for 2 Move Controllers, 30 for the sub, and 40 for the game. I’d wind up paying 20 bucks more and still wouldn’t get another camera!

I just watched this months Qore Episode and the Move looks AWESOME!!! Check out the demos with Veronica, the paint program is sick. You can do so many things with it that it’s crazy.

  • The ideal option for me: Pack PlayStation Move Bundle w/Navigation Controller

  • Im GETTIN THE MOVE DAY 1…I WAS THINKING ABOUT BUYING A Wii BECAUSE THEY DIDNT HAVE A RELEASE DATE ON THE MOVE AND IVE BIN THINKIN ABOUT PLAYING SOME PING PONG AND OTHER ACTIVE GAMES..ON MY 52″ BRAVIA HDTV (;p)..BUT NOW THAT THE MOVE HAS AN OFFICIAL DATE AND ITS CONTROLL IS BETTER THAN THE Wii..I WOULD BE A FOOL TO BUY A Wii..I ALREADY HAVE THE CAMERA..SO IM LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTIN 2 MOVES AND 1 NAV..AS FOR THE GAMES..THAT PRICE WAS SURPRISING..WITH ALL THAT TECH FOR 4O BUKS IM IN! IVE BIN A PLAYSTATION FAN SINCE PS1..AND BEING HOW SONY IS ALWAYS IMPROVEING I DONT THINK IT WILL EVER CHANGE :)- and for thise SENSITIVE COMMENT READERES .sorry bout caps.i already wrote it and im not rewriting it :p

  • make no sense that Sony don’t offer a family pack with 2 moves and 2 sub controllers for a rebate…
