Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.
You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.
This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.
In addition to this PS3 update, the next PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v.6.31) will be coming as well. This is a minor update, and system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.

Update: For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: We have been aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.
To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2nd. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Why don’t you people just come out with what you’re exactly patching on the PSP instead of the lame “stability improvement” that’s been used a million times already…

Yay a firmware update so our ps3 can more effectively sell us stuff. Why not just make the store easier to browse, and not perform so slowly? Also maybe make a quick key to add to cart so I don’t have to do 3-4 clicks per transaction. Or when I load up the store in a grid load up the pictures faster. I really have no idea why it is so slow.
Actually it does cost us something it cost are time and everytime there is an update pretty much your ps3 crashes
This is a pointless feature to me. All I really would like to have is a web browser than can view and run actual web content. Without that content freezing and prompting me to run something for every page on a website. Is that asking for to much?

2:Cross game chat
3:as said above fix the lag in the XMB while you are in a game
4:bring back other OS feature
5:add an in game recorder so that we can record our game play
6:Make all games pause (for offline mode) when you push the PS button. This includes pausing cutscenes
Why are you wasting all of our time? Couldn’t this be changed by a mere store update?
The Playstation Blog Share has so many ideas that the community wants implemented, yet absolutely nothing is being done about it. Instead of these small, useless updates which brings features nobody wants, why not bring something the community has been requesting for a long time?
Keep XGC, dont care bout it, give us a universal party system and we’re good.
About this update, looks cool, nothing big but im ok with that. People who expect something amazing with each update need to get real.

You have a short memory. Every console before this one, Wii & X360 received nothing in the way of new features after it was released. You got the console, that was it. Unless you bought an add-on. To me, the firmware updates are a value-add. They make me appreciate the system more and recommend it to more people, but I certainly don’t complain about new features because they’re too insignificant. I don’t pay for them and they weren’t promised to be when I bought the console.

Please improve on the speed of the In-Game XMB (Please Remove All the Unused Options and unused features that we cant use while in a game)
Id just make it were we can check our messages have options to choose different Microphone settings and still see our friends list and use all the same features we can do with the friends list and still have options to create Text Chatrooms and Also Bring in Voice Chat Rooms for our “CROSS GAME CHAT” then Id be a happy PlayStation Fan BOY :D

any way to send a game or video listing to a friend on your friends list to check out? If i see a game demo or movie and i know someone on my list that would like it also would be good to be able to send him a link or something to it to share.

Didn’t you guys say that we where getting a FW update this Summer that would be adding an Netflix icon to our XMB’s?
I know that Netflix’s work’s right now with our PS3’s but you need the CD or I think you can even download it. But it would be so much cooler if we just had the icon.
Really? Seriously Sony may be doing many things right at the moment when it comes to the PS3 but the PSN is not one of them.

We keep getting these lame updates where user demands are not met. What do you suggest we do?
I’ve been a loyal fan for so long, PS1/2/3 PSP, Accessories, tons of games. Day one adopter of hardware and games…this is just ridiculous. There is literally a laundry list of improvements that we actually want and they are just being ignored as far was we as customers can tell.
Why are there items on the XMB in game that require you to exit to use them?…if that’s the case why not remove them in that situation?
– A context sensitive PS button seems so obvious and useful but it’s never used.ie. Message pops up you hit it and get message options.
There are thing you could be doing to enhance the OS but no, you keep pushing out updates that don’t have any face value. While there may be changes in the background,the user sees no immediate benefit. They are minuscule and could be packaged together.
Consider me a user who no longer can defend you guys or care to do so anymore. Every update pushes me more towards the xbox360. The constant propaganda highlighting how much of beast this console is does not translate to a great user experience on the OS side.

Of course I`m gonna complain. I was about to play BC2 with my friends, but instead, I have to update my console, to add features I never wished for. I don`t want something that is annoying, and I never wanted in the first place, even if it is free.
Not to mention the risk of brick or software incompatibility (FW 3.0, I`m looking at you)
Please give us the option to change our PSN ID names!

sounds kinda lame…you need to make up a party chat like xbox has im sick of useing the 360 to talk to my friends becuz ps3 wount let you talk to your friends when your playing diffent games

Cone on Sony how about a good firmware update and putting back on the backwards compatible with Playstation 2 titles. that was on of the main reasons i wanted a PS3 but now i got tons of PS2 games with nothing to do with………now that would be an update

This is late and probably won’t get a response, but why isn’t the PS3 update ever put up as soon as the PS3 update goes live? I have multiple PS3s and I would like to only download the update once. The online site is always the previous update until a few days after it’s live on PS3.

Oh please, all you guys complaining dont know what you want. And why the hell do so many people want cross game chat, its a useless feature. A bigger update? Theres only two topics in the share section that can only be addressed by firmware PS2 emulators and cross game chat, and alot of people already have already have backwards compatability. Those topics also have more negative ratings than positive. Theres really not much more sony can deliver at the moment unless they do something dumb like completely redesighning the xmb. The PSN is fine the way it is so stop whining. If you want additional features get PS Plus.

i would like the ability to listen to my music library during games. And that makes sense for sony to do this because xbox 360 users have this feature and psn should match up with xbl
Yea I totally agree with post #2 Rikith, I used that to help in weighing my purchasing options, and found it of great use.
I’d like to have Cross Game Chat, Voice Messages, in-game music, and an in-game browser and I’m good. Before the PS3 even came out, in a GameInformer MAG it said PS3 would be able to hook up to two HDTVs at one time and one play a game and one browse the web, and 4 years later, we don’t even have cross game chat.
add a ps+ feature to emulate or purchase ps2 games from the store now that would make sony lots of money and they are greedy so why wouldnt they do it?

Seems like a feature that would be added in a firmware update set to “improve playback of certain PS3 software”. Like it doesn’t even seem like a feature that would be stated at all in a normal firmware update- let alone have a blog post about the feature. Strange… It’s questionable why this even needs a firmware update to be done to begin with.
