Coming Tuesday to PSN: Earthworm Jim HD for PS3

Remember playing Earthworm Jim during the glorious 16-bit era? How about battling Major Mucus and Evil the Cat? Or saving Princess What’s-Her-Name?

PlayStation Network: Earthworm Jim HD

If you don’t recall ever playing Earthworm Jim, I can only shake my head with utter sorrow. Who else but an ordinary earthworm can transcend fleeing from crows and eating dirt to become a mutated superhero?

Cue the dramatic music.

Get your Plasma Baster ready for some trigger happy times in the sweet world of high definition graphics — thanks to the amazing team at Gameloft, they’ve given all the original levels in the single-player campaign a healthy HD face-lift. As an added bonus, you’ll discover three exclusive levels which you can now venture through in a never-before-seen setting.

Not one for solo adventures? Gameloft has you covered. Earthworm Jim HD offers local and online 2-4 player co-op gameplay in 15 multiplayer levels! You can also team up with your buddies to (you know) launch cows or madly whip space ships.

PlayStation Network: Earthworm Jim HD PlayStation Network: Earthworm Jim HD

Did I mention, launching cows?

Simply strap into the Ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit™ (Super Suit for short) and be prepared to take down Psy-Crow!

Earthworm Jim HD will be hitting the PlayStation Network on August 3rd at an awesome price of $9.99!

Can you fix the 3.41 problem that keeps us from upgrading our HDDs and buying more games? :D

I’m not going to buy this for full price considering they made a stupid decision to have this game be a timed exclusive for a last gen console. I’ll probably play it when it gets discounted and that’s only if I have nothing else to play (literally). Otherwise, I will just wait for PS+ to offer it for free.

This brings back great memories. I used to play Earthworm Jim with no pants on because the game got me so hot. It was so difficult I got heated up in my small room, if those pants didn’t come off i might suffocate. I will play this with no pants just for Nostalgia.

@18 Gameloft has money priorities:

First iPhone, then Xbox, then PSN.

(Reminds me of that Futurama episode: “first Bender, then Flexo, then Fry.)

Too bad it’s possibly the only interesting thing we’ll see in the next updat, as always. And I’m not even interested in this, anyway :(

I thought this was an XBLA exclusive and yet again, PS3 gets something that was once “exclusive” with more stuff.

=D

I remember playing the original at a friend’s house every so often and I sucked at the game but it was pretty fun.

I wonder if they’re gonna do an HD version of the second one.

If this has a discount on PS+ I MIGHT consider getting a membership.

I saw one of my friends had a + sign next to his name, though…I don’t want people knowing im a PS+ member if I sign up.

update 3.41 is affect PS3 HDD upgrades? Are you using the right type of HDD and the right format?

Ok I think I got this right! I found out the pattern for PS+. Since this game will release on Aug. 3 2010, PS+ memebers will expect to see this for FREE in about 2012-2013! Perfect! YES… I got the pattern for the PS+! You get “FREE” games once no one give a _______ about them!!

38

+ FenRir_D on July 29th, 2010 at 9:55 am said:

@33 BloodyCow
Oh yeah, Im using a 2.5″ SATA 5400 RPM, there is a lot of people with the same problem on a topic on the forums. The update file from the website (the systems asks for it when you turn the system on) doesn’t copy completely onto the HDD regardless of the storage media containing the 3.41 file (USB pendrives, external HDDs, CDs)and asks for the file again. So if anyone is thinking of upgrading their HDDs, be aware of this.

EXCEPT for the voice acting, very disappointing because the game was supposed to have humor but it just sounds like some programmer recorded his voice.

I know I am late with this, but could someone please explain in great detail why we are not able to alphabetize or sort demos and purchased PSN games? Finding the game I want to play in my long list (500GB HDD) is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

I haven’t bought a PSN game in about 6 months, and I will not buy any more until this tiny feature is added! It just makes no sense why it is not in there! Do Eric Lempel and his team honestly not think of this kind of stuff? You would think that something this simple, necessary, and painfully obvious would have been implemented in one of the first updates in 2006!

+ nokedimyo on July 29th, 2010 at 10:43 am said:

Does this version of the game include Big Bruty? I used to play this game on Sega CD all the time, but would need a demo to convince me to buy it since my Sega CD still works :-P

+ BlackIceJoe on July 29th, 2010 at 10:45 am said:

Is there any hope for a PSP version of Earthworm Jim? It does not have to be the same. I would even be all for the originals as downloads so I could play them on the PSP. So please think about bringing Earthworm Jim to the PSP too.

It’s good to see companies recognize that their old games can be a relatively inexpensive source of cash. In no ways is this a bad thing for consumers and publishers. I hope the trend contunues. Toejam and Earl HD anyone?
