MAG “Moves,” Plus the New Beta Program

116 10

We have tremendous plans for our “ever-changing global war” that is MAG — and we’re starting with PlayStation Move!

MAG will support PlayStation Move

That’s right, later this Autumn MAG will offer full compatibility with the PlayStation Move! This added support means that users have another way to experience the most ambitious first-person shooter out there. Pinpoint accuracy and easy access to all of the game’s mechanics ensure that players of any type — be they hardened veterans or new recruits — can enjoy a shooting experience unlike any other.

But PlayStation Move support isn’t all we’re working on. Because our upcoming content is so important to the game and its future, we want your assistance to make sure we get it right! With that notion in mind we’re pleased to announce that, one week from today on August 24, we’re inviting existing MAG owners to take part in the all-new MAG Beta program!

What are you going to play and test, you ask? How does this hit you?

  • Escalation Game Type — battle it out with all three factions at once on three never-before-seen maps
  • New Weapons — each PMC has access to three new guns (9 total) for added firepower
  • Clan Deploy — a highly-requested community feature that allows clan leaders to launch games with up to 128 clan members in a single match
  • Updated Skill Tree — enjoy more customization than you’ve ever had before with new skills and an improved progression system
  • In-game Economy System — earn “credit points” by completing objectives and killing enemies to purchase new weapons and gear
  • Additional Character Slots — Create a persona for Raven, Valor and SVER on one account for maximum testing flexibility

To participate in the new MAG beta, all you have to do is download the client software from the PlayStation Store when it becomes available next week, insert your MAG disc into the PlayStation 3, sign-in to the beta client and… BOOM! You’re good to go. Reminder: You must have the MAG disc in your PS3 in order for the new beta client to work.

Amazingly, today’s announcement only scratches the surface of what’s planned for MAG’s future. That’s why we’re updating the Official MAG Blog constantly over the next few weeks with new and more detailed information of what you can look forward to, including a post today that explores, in detail, the complexities of our new Escalation game mode.

As always, the entire team at Zipper Interactive would like to thank you, our fans, for your feedback, loyalty and enthusiasm. Your continued support is what makes MAG what it is today, and it’s what inspires us to keep striving to make it better.

  • Great job Zipper. MAG is awesome. Keep it up.

  • sweet! Can’t wait to try out the new stuff. Move is becoming more and more appealing. This will be the third game that I’ll want to try Move in. :)

  • was initially holding off on the Move, but now it’s looking more like a Day one buy =D

  • awesome the game keeps getting better although MAG is really underrated in my opinion.

  • This is awesome, going to go pre-order my PS Move tonight! Looking forward to also all those beta features, however does playing in the beta only improve our rank in the beta or also on the normal playing servers?

    • Whatever is accomplished in the beta stays in the beta — we’re separating the universes between retail and beta so that people can test without disrupting their character.

We’ll actually have more details on the character customization aspect tomorrow on the MAG Blog. As an aside, we’ve also updated the MAG Blog today with a closer look at the Escalation mode with new screens.

  • First Move-FPS to market, beating out Guerrilla. :)

    Can’t wait.

  • Any chance of 3D support for this and/or Socom 4?

  • I’ve only played the beta, but maybe I’ll buy MAG now because of this.

@Wollan — Not really beating Guerrilla as it will be the first FPS (that we know of) to actually launch with Move support..

  • I am now officially going to purchase this game (I should have been and done it)

  • Nice, i really like the continued support from MAG, it really intrigues me to try a patched version of the game. Thanks Jeremy, and for nostalgia’s sake, BEYOND!

  • well its time for me to pre order Playstation Move , working my way up to get rank 60 in Raven since i already have SVER and Valor highest ranks

  • not excited about Move being implemented. Unless everyone uses the same controller (all dualshock3 or all move) then one side will have an advantage over the other.

  • Some truly amazing support for an under-appreciated and underrated game! Thanx Zipper…this will get me back online with MAG!

  • thumbs up to Zipper for the amazing work and support for mag!

  • wow amazing news, i will play it with move then and see how it plays. thanks guys

  • hells yeah now i can start back playing mag and with ps move support hells yeah

  • Will the Move support be an update; or do I have to buy another copy..

Because i own MAG already =.=

  • Can we get some kind of offline play! like a botmatch or something!

    • No bots — it’s an online-only game by design, and we don’t foresee adding any sort of offline mode (unless you count training mode, which you can play by yourself)

  • Good to see Sony and Zipper continue to make MAG the best it can be. I will be a MAG Beta tester again I see. :)

When can we see some gameplay of MAG and the PS MOve Jeremy?

  • Really good, makes me happy they delayed Socom 4 and will continue to support MAG

  • 1) Will the Move support added via a patch, or will you be ripping fans off Resident Evil Gold Edition style?

    2) Now it’s clear why it takes so long to get things fixed in MAG. It’s because you guys have been dinking around with Move, instead of fixing the game first.

    3) Get rid of the VTK system. In no branch of military can you kick your superior officer. Nor can you vote someone off your squad in the middle of a fire-fight.

    • 1) Via patch — we didn’t add Move support to the game until recently.

      2) Move support was added very quickly. Also, We’ve had 9 patches in 7 months, plus 1 major DLC pack and two minor DLC add-ons. Personally, I’d say that’s a pretty good pace. Of course, we’re going to continue to update things or correct issues where and when we can as we go along.

      3) We’re looking into modifying our VTK system, but that’s all we can say for now.

  • BEST INFORMATION IVE RECIEVED ON A GAME ALL YEAR!!! -Borderlands new expansion. :D

  • i’m still enjoying sniping valor and sver bvtt, and this might take my sniping to a whole new level! please, please, please, more double-xp weekends! ravens rule!

  • Pretty sweet

  • Just picked up MAG on thursday, buying the sony move/320gig bundle in Sept because my 80gig is full, cant wait!

  • I love it when people arbitrarily blame something (like developing Move controls) for something else. “I don’t like it, so it must be to blame!” Nuts.

  • Put some Awesome Sauce on that Joint!!!!

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THIS WHOLE NEW SLOT THING WHEN I JUST MAXED OUT MY LEVEL WITH SVER AND HAD TO START ALL OVER WITH A NEW ONE.COULD WE GET THE DELETED ONE BACK??

  • Will this update include (more) 24-bit lossless audio assets for explosions and things? I’m happy to have larger install size for the sake of HD audio, since the capability is unique to the PS3.

  • for those who are asking about wether move support will be in a patch or if we have to buy a new game, its zipper, people. this is a compeny that actually listens to their fanbase and tries to give them what they want. i have no doubt in my mind that this will be a patch update for move. personally i can’t wait for the multiple charachteres and the three faction game mode. I’ve always been rather upset when one faction is reaedy to go and the other two have to race to play. i kinda wish there was a full game mode, though. for example. Valor and Raven are both heading for SVER. They meet on SVERs Interdiction map and duke it out. the winning faction (lets go with valor) then attacks SVER on acquisition. if they get the transports, then they use thoses as APC’s in a game of domination. kind of like a multiplayer story mode.

  • @20

What’s wrong?…..have you been kicked alot or what?
It’s a great option to be able to kick the commanding officer. If it’s someone who isn’t doing his job then he needs to be removed (believe it or not, this happens all the time in real life).
Maybe you should try to play better or stop doing whatever irritating thing you’re doing that keeps getting you voted off.

  • oops….sorry that was for 21

  • Why are the story elements that are on the MAG website left out of the actual game?

    • The short answer — gameplay is our primary focus. The storyline stuff is meant to add another layer for those looking to expand their experience a bit.

  • Mad respect for the support of this game Zipper!

  • This is just amazing, glad to see this game getting the support it deserves. Can’t wait to try MAG with the move!

  • Awesome! Im pushing for 3D support :)

  • Also, for those who are looking for more PS Move games, Siliconera just confirmed that Konami just picked up No More Heroes for PS3 (sorry Xbox) and will be adding Move Support to the game.

  • Can We MAG Out On Day One Of The Move?

  • Thanks Jeff for the response. BTW the new beta sounds great and MAG is one more reason for me to buy Move. I can’t wait!

  • So what class do these new guns fit into? Are they actually new models etc.. or just a new texture on an old gun with tweaked stats like the last ones?

  • Will there be special plalists for those who are/aren’t using move. I can imagine severe disadvantages for both sides when it comes to certain aspects

  • Im gonna buy the move probaly when its the first day it comes out!

  • best ps blog post for me in forever!
I already have the psmove preordered and this makes it all better. Don’t know if I’ll do the beta or not because I’m working on the trophies but move support for MAG is sweet. I’m probably going to get socom 4 too.

  • will the beta be available for everyone or only playstation +

    • For everyone who owns MAG. You’ll just need to download the PS Store client and pop the disc in to do it.

  • So…. This is why Socom 4 was delayed… wow… cmon..

  • @32
People recently have been kicking people off for reasons like so they can be the leader and get more points and the leadership bonus. Also I’ve been kicked a couple times so that someone’s freind can join in their squad.

If our fans really demanded it, we’d certainly entertain the idea.”

    I DEMAND 3D support! :)

  • I LOVE YOU ZIPPER seriously this is amazing. I saw Move support and my head exploded then after I duct taped it back together and saw all the other stuff we’re going to get to try VERY soon my jaw fell off! I <3 MAG thank you so much!

  • This might just be enough to get me back into MAG.
