We have tremendous plans for our “ever-changing global war” that is MAG — and we’re starting with PlayStation Move!
That’s right, later this Autumn MAG will offer full compatibility with the PlayStation Move! This added support means that users have another way to experience the most ambitious first-person shooter out there. Pinpoint accuracy and easy access to all of the game’s mechanics ensure that players of any type — be they hardened veterans or new recruits — can enjoy a shooting experience unlike any other.
But PlayStation Move support isn’t all we’re working on. Because our upcoming content is so important to the game and its future, we want your assistance to make sure we get it right! With that notion in mind we’re pleased to announce that, one week from today on August 24, we’re inviting existing MAG owners to take part in the all-new MAG Beta program!
What are you going to play and test, you ask? How does this hit you?
- Escalation Game Type — battle it out with all three factions at once on three never-before-seen maps
- New Weapons — each PMC has access to three new guns (9 total) for added firepower
- Clan Deploy — a highly-requested community feature that allows clan leaders to launch games with up to 128 clan members in a single match
- Updated Skill Tree — enjoy more customization than you’ve ever had before with new skills and an improved progression system
- In-game Economy System — earn “credit points” by completing objectives and killing enemies to purchase new weapons and gear
- Additional Character Slots — Create a persona for Raven, Valor and SVER on one account for maximum testing flexibility
To participate in the new MAG beta, all you have to do is download the client software from the PlayStation Store when it becomes available next week, insert your MAG disc into the PlayStation 3, sign-in to the beta client and… BOOM! You’re good to go. Reminder: You must have the MAG disc in your PS3 in order for the new beta client to work.
Amazingly, today’s announcement only scratches the surface of what’s planned for MAG’s future. That’s why we’re updating the Official MAG Blog constantly over the next few weeks with new and more detailed information of what you can look forward to, including a post today that explores, in detail, the complexities of our new Escalation game mode.

For all of you who think that Move support will give people an advantage… I have news for you. There are 2 or 3 companies that make a mouse/sub controller combo for the PS3. It’s absolutely amazing for shooters. I use one for MAG, and I’m sure lots of others do too. Having said that, I’m still buying a Move, and will certainly be giving it a shot for MAG and other shooters!

Fair enough. At least noone can say that you guys don’t support your product. I can’t say that I’m impressed with waggle/pointing getting added, but I guess I should reserve my whining (or praising, I guess) until after I’ve tried it. Yes, I’m a bit skeptical.
The VTK system drives me nuts because it is used(generally) in a manner that discourages players from participating unless they are with a clan. So if none of my clanmates are on, I may as well play something else unless I want to take my chances. Also, the person kicked loses everything they earned that round. Why? So I lose 1000 XP because someone wanted to squeeze in a buddy? Just terrible.
If you guys aren’t going to get rid of it, at least don’t penalize the kicked. If it’s important enough to kick someone, you should charge the kickers some XP. If one had to spend 100XP to get rid of someone, they’d be less likely to kick people for minute reasons.

Since Socom got delayed I was gonna wait on the Move peripheral launch. But since MAG is going to get MOVE support I am going to go buy MAG and a MOVE controller! See ya’ll on the battlefield.

I like the added story elements like the news briefs, etc. on the site. I think a lot of people would agree with me, that if you guys were to add a browser link in the main menu under faction or something it would take you to either SVER, Raven, or Valor’s respective Web sites. I know you guys could do that. No need to recode it for the game, just add that little feature to the menu that is included in the PS3 firmware.
I think it would add some more staying power for the vets out there. I platty’d the game after like 300 hours playtime. Needless to say I love the game, and I love the added support which keeps me around. But it gets mundane sometimes when there is no progress to the story. Say Raven has been last place for three weeks. They get a news brief saying shareholders are jumping ship…heavily investing in S.V.E.R. industries. Then Raven gets x2 XP in matches against S.V.E.R. on top of any other xp bonuses. Just some sort of feeling that the matches are making a difference for your army.
Just my 2 cents. Sorry for the wall of text. Move day 1 because of this game.

Will Interdiction be upgraded to three platoons per PMC because there are not enough people on the maps. Also maybe think about adding an OIC and making the vehicles harder to destroy. Thank you and I love the support you are giving MAG.
MAG has seriously been getting better and better from the start in a BIG way. Not that it matters what I think, but as someone who plans to buy PlayStation Move and who already has MAG, I have to give a big thank you to everyone at Zipper for staying committed to this game. When I first bought it I had my doubts, but I really like what you guys have done with updates and I think Move support (along with the new systems you’re implementing) are making this a phenomenal game. It really makes me proud to be an owner of this game, very nice work. =)
where are the playstation plus betas ? SONY dont let me get my hands on you ( sony employees ) i ll give you more than a handshake. i still am sour about other os removal.

I’m curious to see how the in-game Economy System will work out. I do like the the current system of using the level up pts to buy our weapons & gear. I’m excited for everything being put in, but I’m most excited for the new mode (all 3 factions ftw!) and the 128 man clan deploy. Now, I’ll need to find myself a good clan again.
Zipper, you guys are really amazing keeping MAG going. I love this game and i wish more people would take this game more seriously. the only thing that annoys me is the people that play this game like there playing COD or something. I mean if you play a game like this, please use your mikes peoples. It makes it more fun. but thanks for the game update thats coming soon. another reason why ill be playing this game for a while. I have to say once again I’m very impressed by the support you guys continue to offer for MAG. I go to other forum and people are saying that the game is dead and online numbers are dwindling but when I’m in game using new additions like the directives and happy hour to boost XP I’m as happy as can be. I like interdiction but the majority of the players don’t seem to have it so it’s always a drag to have to wait in an Interdiction directive queue. Other than that I love what you’ve been doing consistently to make this game THEE best FPS on the PS3 or any system for that matter.
MAG lives on in a big way, thanks again.

Never got too much into competitive FPS games, but Move support has officially put MAG on my radar. I’m going to be watching this very closely now! You guys are awesome for endorsing motion-controlled core gaming.

MAG is the bestest 1st person multi shooter game ever to be make. the support it get helps alot cant wait for the beta really cant wait i hate waiting for kills when sniping and sometimes i miss it piss me off(thank god im halfway for the medal)

Fantastic news but a shame I’ve just deleted my lvl60 Valor character – Any chance this can be pulled back or is it lost forever?
I tried 2D->3D while playing MAG on my 3DTV and it’s got great depth, you should try it. I think a proper 3D update would be welcome since the game isn’t all about graphics just running at a respectable frame rate with lots of people. A 3D training level like that bit in the intro video where it shows Raven characters testing weapons on an indoor virtual firing range would be good or a small amount of players (cough COD) confined on a small multi-layered map would work too.
I am not interested in this game… good to hear another title is supporting the move however. I would like to point out that the responses you have given to the commentors is excellent. Keep up the good work.

I love the constant addition of new things most games stay the same as they were when you bought them and lose playing value after a while. Every time I get the chance to play MAG I’m doing something totally different than last time.
One question, is the Move support going to be an update for anyone who owns MAG already or do you have to buy a copy that supports it?

MAG just keeps getting better & I think thats great, you have made a fan out of me. One of the things that MAG has over other shooters ( MW ) is you are working to accomplish a objective instead of just racking up kills. Keep up the good work.
