MotorStorm 3D Rift Comes to PSN Tomorrow With 10 Tracks

Daimion Pinnock's Avatar + Posted by Daimion Pinnock on Aug 23, 2010 // Producer, SCEA

Hi MotorStormers! I’m excited to let you know that we will be releasing MotorStorm 3D Rift to PSN this Tuesday, August 24th for $9.99. Now you can enjoy an immersive 3D racing experience with 10 of our favorite MotorStorm Pacific Rift tracks like Kanaloa Bay or Caldera Ridge, using a selection of festival-favorite off-road vehicles including Bikes, Buggies, Racing Trucks, and Monster Trucks.

MotorStorm 3D Rift for PS3

For those of you who don’t have a 3D TV yet and want to sample MotorStorm Pacific Rift, I can assure you that 3D Rift is still wicked fun on a 2D TV! Check out this video of the adrenaline-soaked MotorStorm Pacific Rift in action.

In 3D Rift you’ll have 10 unique events to compete in (one for each track) with the full range of competitor difficulty levels through the races, so you can enjoy the brutal off-road racing at your leisure or take on the toughest and most competitive rivals.

With 3D you can naturally judge your speed and proximity, which will be extremely helpful when trying to avoid being side-swiped by a rampaging Racing Truck, ramming a rival Buggy into a cave wall, or timing when to get back on the accelerator as you take a tricky corner. When you are riding a Bike, 3D makes it obvious what you can and can’t duck under — even at high speeds! And you can feel just how monstrous a Monster Truck is when looking down at a rival Buggy just before it disappears under your super-sized wheels. If you’ve played the 3D Collection demo then you’ve already gotten a taste of how awesome MotorStorm is in 3D. Check out MotorStorm 3D Rift for more tracks and greater challenges. If you haven’t, you’ll be blown away by the sense of speed as you fight through the tropical island setting and RIP it up in 3D paradise.

MotorStorm 3D Rift includes 10 tracks, 10 race events, multiple playable vehicles, and is playable in both 2D and 3D. You can get it on PSN for $9.99.

We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as the team here has enjoyed working on it. We look forward to bringing you more breathtaking 3D racing action with MotorStorm Apocalypse next year!

Trophy support would have made this sale really well. Horrible decision not to include them.

No problem. Glad you liked Apocalypse at E3. And that track was nothing compared to the madness and chaos to be had in the full game.

I’d love to hear what you and anyone else here think of 3D Rift’s implementation of 3D when it comes out tomorrow. LUNATICS UNITE!!! :D

I’ll post it here. You’ll get feedback. If it’s anything like that demo, but more Lunacy, it will probably be positive, :D

Funny how people asking about the trophies, do you play game to have fun or for some BS virtual score?

Grow up kiddies, you should get some p****y instead.

Anyway, I was waiting for 3D game, any 3D game it will make my Samsung C7000 very happy.

I really loved it when Sony included the old Playstation 3 Emblem when you started a game. A lot of people would prefer that it comes back.

I’m sorry I cannot buy it because of lack of 3D.

    DJ Kim,

The game is compatible with both 2D and 3D. Having a 3D TV is a bonus, but it’s still great fun in 2D if you don’t already have MotorStorm Pacific Rift. Hope you give it a chance!

@XtremeVirus

Honestly, I couldn’t have said it better :D

I’ll reserve my trophies to getting a raise at work, buying my new Camaro, getting an award for my work, or winning a God of War contest.

I don’t need virtual trophies to feel better about myself. I’ll take a freakin’ awesome game instead.

But like I said, “Thanks Microsoft” for infecting the PS population with your need for virtual C@$K.

Nice release, I would had bought it if there was trophies in it, but sorry without I’ll pass and I guess many other will do!, It’s not a clever decision releasing it without, as there is many trophie addicted geeks out there wich would buy it just becouse of them, we simply lost intrest in gaming without!
Even I have the original game, it would been nice to have it on the hd for a quick race (too lazy to put in the blueray at times..) But I hope it will not keep you away from releasing simular in the future on the future, just remember to add trophies if you will get a sales boost! I even dream that you will release the full blueray games on psn, as it’s much more available when on the hd than needing to put in a blue-ray!

Absolutely [DELETED]! 3D TVs are about gaming, not Movies. And this is just the beginning!

The only thing I wonder if how split screen will be implemented from now on. I heard about the new way of using the shutter glasses to give each player a full screen view, but you probably can’t combine this with 3D. And if there were split screen and 3D it might REALLY disorient the two players.

Either way, thanks for this awesome 3D mini Motorstorm. Can’t go back to 2D now.

to all those people that bought the samsung 3DTV’s if i were you i would send it back or smash it up and claim on the insurance cause i saw one in currys and its just no where near as good as the Sony ones the samsung 3D glasses flicker really bad and the ghosting effect is so noticeable that it will probably give you a headache after five minutes. there is no flicker or ghosting on the Sony LX series and they are only £500 extra so why you would decide to buy the samsung crap is beyond me..

Downloaded the game yesterday, although i didn’t care much for MotorStorm before. Looking pretty awesome on my Panasonic VT20!! The depth in the game is great and the dirt in your face really annoying… as it should!! ;)

Great to play, really fun to show friends what 3D can bring to games. Wanna play against friends off and online, i miss that but i guess it’s an appertizer, for things to come!! Looking forward to Apocalypse now!! (And any other 3D game!! eg. GT5)

Own a 3D TV…??? it’s a must-buy, not so lucky … then get it anyway ;)

86

+ Sindred on August 27th, 2010 at 6:15 am said:

Actually, I’ve been playing it on my Samsung with no ghosting at all. On top of that, I noticed some ghosting at the Sony store with theirs, so ghosting happens on all of them.

But, Whereismax, make sure to update your TV’s firmware. They added a slider in the options menu that slides the ghosting and merges the image. That helped a lot.

The guys at EVO are real a**holes.
Look at vip.motorstorm.com; the home page promises so much, but they did nothing, instead of a real fix for like 3 or 2 tracks (IT’S REALLY NEEDED), they port 10 tracks to 3D. That takes much more effort than just fixing something.

It’s really not nice to say in your website that you are going to give sneak peaks of development, tips, guides, interviews, but later say that you won’t even bother with it.
That’s a middle finger.

EVO won’t bother listening to us, i won’t bother buying Apocalypse. Simple as that.

Hey! I have 3D for my PS3; rocking a 60″ DLP. Pure amazing tech. I really wished the motorstorm team would have made a full patch for pacific rift for this; but still amazing. If you do not have 3d yet; consider very soon by the end of the year experiencing it. The store demos do not do justice to the in-home experience.

+ JimboFBX on August 29th, 2010 at 9:50 pm said:

Hi, my wife and I have been playing this and so far its a great game for 10 bucks but there’s a couple issues we’d like to see patched. The first is that the screen vibration when using the booster is really extreme for the motorbike and makes watching it in 3D somewhat nauseating. The other thing is that it would be nice to see some replayability beyond simply getting a gold, silver, or bronze for each track. For example, maybe a “best time” with the ability to put in a name or perhaps being able to tweak the rules to increase the challenge. Right now the game feels like a demo with extra tracks just added. Granted, we’re not looking at anything too sophisticated since we will move on to other games, but a new challenge as motivation to revisit an already beaten track would be nice. Also, finally, this goes for all PS games, please let us tweak the convergence. There is a decent amount of “comfort level” 3d depth real estate in front of the TV that is wasted by having 95% of the game occur “beyond” the TV.

I have turned on the 3d glasses and tried putting the TV in 3D mode (all 3 choices…. side by side and above/below don’t give a working picture. Selecting 2D to 3D is just a Samsung feature to make 2D look good).
Completely stuck and confused. Can you help?
Thanks

+ Smooth-Talker on September 6th, 2010 at 6:35 am said:

It’s in your settings of your PS3… not sure which one. I think in the monitor/resolution settings or somethings. Have the PS3 re-detect which resolution your TV is capable of… eg. 1080i or p. It will then detect that your TV is 3D capable and then you can play it in 3D.

Going well now…. stuck on the track EDGE at the moment, but I’ll get there.

The one thing that is killing me though is the music track. APPALLING doesn’t even half way describe it. Thrash metal with a sound in it that makes me think I’ve hit the boost when I haven’t.

I detest it and it can’t be turned off. I don’t want to play in silence, but it’s getting close to having to as I don’t want to be throwing a brick through my new 3D TV.
