Under Siege for PS3: First Video, PlayStation Move Details

Hi everyone! We’re proud to present Under Siege to the readers of the PlayStation.Blog. In a nutshell:

  • Under Siege is a real-time strategy game exclusive to the PS3 and the PSN store.
  • It includes a juicy single player campaign as well as online and local multiplayer content.
  • The in-game Editor enables players to create their own maps and share them with the world!

What’s that you say? How juicy is the campaign?

For starters, the single-player campaign in Under Siege does not include those pesky grinding levels many other strategy games have; You don’t have to spend half an hour getting wood to then build a base, and so on. Your army is always there with you, growing persistently from level to level. Your army also gains experience ranking up as they fight, so it’s important to keep them alive because when they die… well, we like to think that they were somebody’s son.

Oh, and you found a new race in the swamp that wants to join your cause? They can! Because in Under Siege, your army is made up of every race found in the game. This makes for some interesting strategy tactics for multiplayer matches.

Speaking of multiplayer…

You can play multiplayer with up to four players online, and two two locally via split screen. You and your friends can play 1v1, 2v2, 3v1 or four players vs the A.I.

What’s that, Billy? You want to know what multiplayer modes are available? Well, what if I told you that we have all of them? Hummm? Can you touch the stars now, Billy? Can you?

Since in Under Siege every map is made in the Editor, it basically means that any kind of multiplayer mode is possible. Currently, the game will ship with some maps of Deathmatch, Capture Point, Capture Treasure, and Survival. There will be more to come, but these will be a surprise.

The Editor

The guys at Media Molecule knew what they were doing, so we decided to do the same. The Editor that ships with Under Siege allows everyone to create their maps and share them with the world. It’s the same tool that we used to build all of our maps!

The maps can be single player or multiplayer; A short campaign or a complex co-op survival mode.

What about the game features?

  • Control scheme specially designed for the DualShock controller
  • Four players online
  • Two players split screen
  • Video and voice chat in game and in the lobby
  • XMB screenshot and custom music support
  • Video recording

And most important of all, Playstation Move support. That’s right, Under Siege is one of the first RTS games that uses the PlayStation Move, and to prove the implementation is done right, check out our video (above) made specially for the nice folks here at the PlayStation.Blog.

  • Thanks for the support!

    Full trophy list with Platinum.

It is a RTS or if you want to get into specifics it is more of a RTT (Real Time Tactics).

There won’t be any bases, the game is divided into 2 phases, Preparation Phase where you recruit units and place them on the field and the Battle Phase where you fight.

Split Screen is of course better used in Co-Op games, but you can still play against a friend too because there really isn’t much time to look at the other screen while playing.

For those who like grinding all units level up and stay with you until the end of the campaing.

Servers are the players themselves so there will never be a general server shutdown. As long as two players want to play against each other they can.

We are a small time and we don’t have the time to put out a demo. After the game is released we will get some time to do that to.

Again, there is an Editor included with the game, if you want a specific type of RTS game that is doable with our tools you can make it happen.

Most of these questions are already answered in our website -> http://www.undersiegegame.com/

    Cheers!

  • i think this will be, one of the best RTS ill ever play!

  • Hey, it looks pretty cool although I think that video is in heavily need of a commentary as I had no idea whether the game couldn’t register your button pushings or whether you were just waiting for something to happen. It could definitively use a little bit more guidance.

Anyway if the price aint too high I might just get this. It looks pretty darn cool!

  • Boas,

Gostaria de saber o preço. O jogo parece impecável e visto ser Português, tem todo o meu apoio.

Abraço e continuação do bom trabalho,

    Filipe Silva

  • This looks really, really awesome – been on my radar for a while, but with the confirmation and demonstration of Move support, I’m sold :). Keep up the great work :).

  • Day one purchase. Your game looks friggin awesome.

  • I’ve been keeping my eye on this game and it’s looking stellar!

  • Looks like fun! I also must congratulate you guys on the graphics, too; they look fantastic.

  • @Filipe Pina…Please have gore in this game?
Also please have atleast 4 player co op?Finally please tell me there will be dlc planned in the future for this game?

P.S..i know PS3 support up to 7 dual shock controllers so it’s only fair that you guys atleast have 4 player co op & no midevil game is complete without gore because those times were brutal after all.

    • Yes you can play 4 player Co-Op online, and 2 player Co-Op local.
As for gore the style of the game is more cartoony than realistic, we have blood but unless you zoom in you don’t see it.

  • You say the editor tools are included to make “any kind of RTS you like” does that mean we’ll be able to Create a true RTS? With resource gathering, buildings, defenses etc… or are we just given a way to customize the “RTT” you suggested in a reply post?

    • Our tools in the editor allow you to go a long way into changing how the game is played, but the core will still be there.

  • Can you play split-screen and online at the same time? I.e. have a local co-op buddy playing 2v2 against online opponents?

  • Ow… Jogo de PS3 feito em portugal!?

    Que legal!
    Parece bem interessante.
Quando será lançado? Terá suporte a mouse e teclado?

    Bom trabalho :)

  • Seems really cool.

  • Hey folks, i think Under Siege looks very “sweet and tasty”. One of my favorite features in this game is the artwork. Level editor is also an interesting feature. I like to have the “power” to create when i play… Move support? Yeah, it can work and make RTS games pretty much interesting on Ps3!

  • Great stuff!
Congrats to the Seed Studios team!

This will definitely be a turning point for RTS (RTT) on consoles!
I agree with one of the comments above, thou: the Move demo movie lacks some guidance… subtitles maibe?

  • @Filipe Pina Will we see you guys offer up lots of core expansions & content long after we finish the main game?

P.S.. I ask because after i finish the game itself im gonna be left wawnting more to do afterwards.

  • sorry for the typo my apollgees!

  • @Filipe Pina if you guys ever plan on making another rts game it be cool if you guys did one on the wild west.

  • The main character is just a chef.

  • Holy cow, a game that actually uses the screenshot feature along with custom music and video recording and chat. I might buy it just to thank them for actually bothering to take full advantage of the PS3 instead of playing to the lowest common denominator or having a generic feature set.

I still wish it would use keyboard/mouse, though. There’s a reason that my occasional purchase of an RTS only happens on PC no matter how “built from the ground up” a game is for a console.

  • If you get a MOVE teekomeeko, it’ll be a lot like playing with a mouse.

I must say this excites me to no end. I’m a fan of RTS games in general (even the somewhat played out Tower Defense versions), so it’ll be great to have one that’s just for the PS3. I don’t mind the lack of resource management too much – I’ll miss it but I do find it can be tedious sometimes also, so a more action oriented RTS is fine. Especially one that looks as good as this does.

My one request is that not too many of the trophies be on-line based. It’s a bit of a draw to seek a platinum only to find that you must become this super mega death bringer online in order to do so or must have everyone love your level design. Not everyone’s great against live folk and not everyone is great at level design or you guys would be out of work, lol. It’s one of my gripes with Little Big Planet and Modnation. I’m all for making stuff for the community but I don’t think it should be required that they like what I make – at that point it becomes work, not play.

So anyway, best of luck on the crunch-time wrap up of the game and I hope we see its release not long after the MOVE hits store shelves!

    • Thanks for the support. Crunch-time is not about luck :)
US Trophies are nicely packaged the way we think is fair but also with some cool chalenges.

  • draw = drag. Typo’s suck.

  • the game looks very good. I’ve always been into RTS games. i will get this for sure, also because i am portuguese and want to support my neighbors (since i too live in Porto). Move support will give this a similar control i am used to (mouse + KB).

PS: já agora, tenho o 12º tecnologico de informatica. como posso vos enviar um curriculo? :D
