PlayStation Store Celebrates 15 Years of Innovation

Ro Hernandez's Avatar + Posted by Ro Hernandez on Sep 09, 2010 // Digital Distribution Manager, Sony Network Entertainment

Hi everyone,

As many of you are already aware, today marks a monumental milestone for gamers in North America. Fifteen years ago, the original PlayStation console was introduced, forever altering the entertainment experience for our loyal PlayStation fans and revolutionizing the video game industry. In order to celebrate our 15-year anniversary with you, we are launching a new category on the PlayStation Store (look under New Releases) that will hold classic content in PlayStation’s history.

PlayStation 15 Year Anniversary - Store Category

Today, we’re kicking off the celebration with a sale on Super Rub ‘a’ Dub. How does this fit into PlayStation’s history? Well some of you may not know that the ducks in Super Rub ‘a’ Dub were used in a tech demo at E3 2005 to show the processing power of the PlayStation 3. Along with Super Rub ‘a’ Dub, we will also have a sale on Suikoden, an iconic RPG from Konami that launched within the first year of the PlayStation’s release. Finally, be sure to check out a free anniversary theme available for the PlayStation 3 and PSP.

The celebration doesn’t stop after today! We will continue to add content onto the anniversary section of the PlayStation Store. Thank you again for your continued support and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with you.

Two questions:
1) Exactly how much is Super Rub-a-Dub? I don’t have a PS3, but my friend does. I’d like to buy Suikoden, but I don’t like having leftover funds, and the $5 minimum doesn’t sit well with me. I’d add the combined price, then have him do the purchase for me.
2) How long will Suikoden stay on sale? If it stays at three bucks until the end of the Anniversary sales, then I’ll just wait until the end of it and buy everything I want en masse, but if its sale ends when the next game’s starts, then I’d need to take a course of action as seen in “1)”.

Also: Will the Anniversary themes stick around for good? Gotta know if I should make a backup of that classiness.

Thank you Sony for 15 great years, even though some of them have been better than others. ;-)

Sales look great, but I already have those and I would really like to see the themes max increased so I could download these anniversary ones also.

Happy Birthday! 15 years of awesome memories. I shall be celebrating by playing some of my favorite PlayStation One games on disc and a few bought in the store and hoping that the deals will increase my library. Oh, and that theme is pretty slick.

Playstation fell apart with the release of the PS3. SECA was stupid to deny 2D classics in favor of 3D garbage games. Face it 2D will always beat 3D crap.
