If you’ve been following our Twitter, you know about Capcom’s biggest Tokyo Game Show announcement. Devil May Cry has been reborn as DmC in a soup-to-nuts re-imagining of the classic PS2 and PS3 action series. The results are undeniably striking, and are bound to trigger debate and discussion among series diehards for months to come. Judge for yourself — take a look at the debut video for DmC below.
In an international twist, British-based Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory is co-developing DmC with Capcom’s Japanese and US studios. The game is still shrouded in mystery, with few details relating to the setting (a strange urban environment with City 17 overtones a la Half Life 2), the combat mechanics (Dante’s sword appears to change shape at whim), the demonic enemies (marionette-like creatures not unlike those from the first game), or a release date.
That said, DmC brought a rousing round of applause from the crowd when it was unveiled at Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show event alongside Capcom’s other major announcement: Asura’s Wrath for PS3. What do you think?

I have to agree with the others here – I don’t like the new grunge/punk/emo blend of Dante’s style at all. I’m really conflicted about this. I want to keep liking the Devil May Cry series, but after Devil May Cry 3 I lost most of my interest in the series, and 4 pretty much killed any lingering bit that stayed behind. It would be nice to see the series go through a much-needed overhaul though. Without Capcom working on this one, I’m really cautious of this title, but after seeing the way they handled 4, it could be what the series needs. The action-heavy cutscenes that did a bunch of stuff you could never actually do in the game got old part way through the second game (’cause your playing just got in the way of the game looking cool!).
So this new game is about some wussy punk whos going around pretending to be Dante?
Isn’t that the same direction you guys took with DMC4?

I know some people are pissed with the over all look, some people with the white hair… if you look carefully at the top of his head, he has white hair growing in.
another interesting fact, if you look on his left arm on the scene where he says his name, you see the British flag.

Maybe next, the idiots at Capcom and Ninja Theory can reboot Onimusha.
They could give Samanosuke pink hair and turn him into a crossdresser. Maybe it could even have extremely slow and boring gameplay, just like this new DmC game appears to have.

H*LL NO!! Look, Infamous brought back old Cole, why? Cuz their not foolish. It’s like the old Batman movies with the constant changing Bruce Wayne’s, it’s not fun. And with DMC, you risk losing fans, it’s like a big FU to supportive and loyal gamers. If you Change Dante, Fine, one ONE condition: You better make this an intro story where Dante comes to understand he is a half Demon, he eventually dyes his hair later, and Bulks up. Cuz I’m not playing as some wimpy punk who moves and fights like a girl instead of A Badass with no respect for the rules.
Well… that was unimpressive.
Mainly because I’m a bit sad not see the original story finished. Like seriously, with all the merchandising you did, the books, toys, anime and 4 games just to scrap the whole thing and not complete it?
Anyway, I like the overall feel, I have a pretty good guess as to where its going. He as a white patch of hair on his head, so I’m assuming he was born ‘normal’ and as he became of age he started to change.
Although I don’t like the look of the character, he seriously looks like a Meth addict. Its clear his overall personality has changed, and I’m not really into that either. I’m happy to see the guns are still relatively the same. I’m sad to see he has some weird morphing sword but perhaps that will give the combat a new spin.
Anyway, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed in this. If your going to reboot the series, I think you need to ATLEAST give him his old hair due and color from the very first DMC, as well as his ‘basic’ personality.
My overall opinion is 2/5. I’ll need to see more + improvements to be convinced to buy this.

The guy on the left is the new epic fail dante, the guy(if you can call it that) is the epic fail director of the game. After knowing and seeing this could someone give me one reason why we shouldn’t call a Hitman on him? Self incerting yourself in a book is something I can understand, self incerting your voice into a game np, but self incerting your entire persona into a game is really something they should put a death penalty on even more so if its the main character :s

Why take an established franchise, give it to someone else and reboot it? Resident Evil I can understand, but DMC,imo,has usually been on the right track and could only have gotten better.
This trend in trying to appeal to Western audiences and having Capcom let other studios do their games is a hit and miss for me. I believe it can work with games like Dead Rising 2 w/ Blue Castle Games doing development, but DMC should have stayed with Capcom – I felt its one of their key products that should not be handled by anyone else.
Its a sad time for some gamers like me. The rise of Western gaming has swayed judgment of many Japanese devs and I fear for the future of quality Japanese games. I dont even expect games like Shenmue 3 from Sega or even a Onimusha title from Capcom.
At least devs like Platinum Games give us that type of game w/ nothing holding their creativity back and im glad for that.
I dont know how much different this DMC is going to be but even though its too early to tell, DMC now just looks ruined. Everything that DMC has been and could’ve been w/ Capcom is just something to look back on and lost..
This is a travesty. Many are starting to refer to this game as “Twilight May Cry” as Dante has been completely re-vamped. DMC is my favorite gaming franchise and what Ninja Theory has been allowed to do to this series is tantamount to butchery. Still, the trailer was supposed to show this new main character in a mental institution saying his name was Dante so perhaps he just thinks he’s Dante. I sincerely hope Ninja Theory knows what they’re doing, otherwise DMC2 will no longer be the low-point of the series.
I say Capcom should just have this project cancelled and we’ll all promise to never speak of it again.

Dear Ninja Theory,
I wanted to let the developers and concept artists know, that as a long time fan of the series (that has followed the series from it’s inception as a RE4 concept through the long lost dodge and wall run mechanic systems to the current day iterations) I love the new design and I for one look forward to your interpretation of DMC, I will always love the 4 previous iterations of the DMC franchise and humbly thank Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami for their gift and I hope Ninja Theory makes the game the way they feel is best, just like Kamiya and Mikami did, No asking for forgiveness, no pandering, just the passion for what you design.
Well I am surprised nobody said the new Dante looks like a young Johnny Depp….Ninja Theory must be a big fan of 21 Jump Street and Crybaby. But we will see how the game pans out. Looks smoking hot!

So the western appeal is the emo look and smoking? Other than that it still looks like something heavily influenced by Japanese tastes.
I really like the new Dante and I will Own this game on day 1. If you like creativity and originality then you should buy this game and support the change.

NO NO NO NO. Why the hell a reboot in the firs place? Why not a new IP? Why using the name Devil May Cry? Horrible new look. Theres a pretty big stablished fan base of DMC yea some games were better than others. But if you say Dante ANYONE knows who are you taking about even if you are not a fan of the series. A really bad bad way to move on with the series theres a lot that could be done with the already existing characters and story.
I think it’s Dante’s son. Possibly with Lady, hence the two-toned hair. Or someone with demon blood borrowing his name, because something doesn’t add up here. He’s chained up, being interrogated. And, and that voice asking “What is your name?” idk it could be just me, but something about it… I don’t think they would EVER change him sooo drastically, do you?

you should come out with a dmc5 that brings all the previous games together into one and in the correct order, make the story make sence,and keeping dante with all his original weapons, styles, looks, attitude,and storyline,while adding new combos, styles, weapons, characters,and start the story from before dmc3 leading into dmc3,dmc2,dmc1,and after dmc1, ending the series with dante having a son/daughter and starting a new series with him/her.
and you should introduce nero in a different way that makes sence with the storyline.
also you should put more focus on virgil giving him as many weapons,combos and styles as dante.
i think you should also tell how dante and virgil became enemies cause near the end of dmc3 wen dante and virgil teamed up against arkam virgil spoke of a time were they worked together.
if this game is a success things better add up and the real dante better pop up or somthin. some original elements really need to be added.
anyone who read my post about wat they should do with a dmc5 please feel free to comment on what you think and try giving out some of your suggestions or ideas, maybe capcom will come to there senses and make a separate game titled dmc5 rather than just goin with this new look.

oh capcom how come you allow this kind of abomination to one of your main series! and i doubt NT can make stylish action game! heavenly sword and enslaved demo combat gameplay are sluggish and unresponsive enough for an stylish action game like DmC not to mention some bad frame rate in their game SIGH (_ _!)

UGH! way to fail guys…first of all DMC was mostly popular with america so..the more american bad-ass design of the first dante was why we loved it so much buuut WHAT’S WITH THE RETARDED J-POP LOOK???? he also just doesn’t seem to have that flair that dante has that makes you want to scream pure bad ass! the only thing that even made this video look remotely good was the transforming sword that and you sorta made him look like a badass with the whole cigarette butt in the forehead thing
although after watching the video again to make sure I didn’t miss anything the new art style (the enviroment and enemies sorta looked like they popped straight out of borderlands) could maybe be cool if pulled off right and again regarding character design…I don’t know about you guys buuuut….he looks way too dammed much like travis touchdown only trying to go all bad ass and high-def on a next gen console for it to blow up on his face XD

Why in the name of anything does DMC need a reboot? It sold millions everytime one was released, and many stories can be created using Dante or even Nero who was pretty cool.
You’ve made Dante look so generic now. He was known for that red coat and white hair, and his sword. It’s like removing Solid Snake’s bandana and barnet, or removing Mario’s ‘tasche.

This new character comes off as… somehow a pretender. He gives me the impression of someone that can fight like Dante, but is somehow pretending to be him. Sort of a psycho in a way.
Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if all these fight scenes are this character in his psycho delusion. Only to wake up and realize he committed mass murder in his delusion and was captured by the cops. Then landed himself in a asylum for “psycho evaluation treatment.”
Just a thought.

#2. it would be pretty cool if you moved the entire original dmc series or at least dmc3 special edition to the ps3 but, with better graphics and game-play.you know, tweak it up a little to make it LOOK better, sorta like the way they moved god of war 1 and 2 to the ps3. that would be cool for dmc fans.
A mix of feelings to see Dante just like a drug addict from Requiem for a Dream.
This is just a cinematic, but the shooting sequence was slow with the impression of zombies waiting to be head-shotted. I’ll wait to more gameplay.

This doesn’t look bad it looks like a good game the only thing I think should be changed would be to make him look tougher he looks a bit too wimpy. The only question I have is will it stay at least a bit true to the original story or will it be completely remade from top to bottom?
