Sports Champions Week: Table Tennis

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar + Posted by Jeff Rubenstein on Sep 17, 2010 // Sr. Social Media Manager

If you’ve previously played a tennis or ping pong video game, you might have an idea of what it’s like to play Table Tennis in Sports Champions. You might also be wrong :)

We wanted to wrap up Sports Champions Week with Table Tennis, because what might seem to be a very basic game proves itself to be quite complex when you factor in the precision of PlayStation Move.

In this video, producer Jeremy Ray demonstrates how the paddle is replicated in 3 dimensions, X, Y, and Z-axis tracking, and also shows off multiplayer and how you too can fend off a robot attack with ping pong balls.

That concludes Sports Champions Week, which will be available in the PlayStation Move bundle this very weekend. If you missed them, please take a look at our Archery, Gladiator Duel, and Disc Golf videos. The final game also includes Bocce and Beach Volleyball.

Just got the controller/eye/sports pack and an extra controller. Not a game breaker for me, but just a word of warning. It doesn’t work well in rooms that have a lot of light.

That aside, after about an hour of playtime, my kids (ages 10, 7 and 7) all said how much better it was than Wii sports.

Will the Heavy Rain Move update be available in Canada on the 22nd as well?

@Judalations It’s actually under Accesory settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom to Motion Controller Settings. Good Tip tho.

@ yaghi007

YES, every PS3 system has the ability to use Move.

You need the PSeye camera and one Move controller to get started.

I already wrote this in other post.. in case you wanna trol about it.. but I just figured it was more relevant here:
I got the move yesterday and I have to say:
“Dear Playstation,

Please include some pain killers and a couple of muscular relaxation/healing stuff with the move sports champions bundle. My arm and my back hurts from playing table tennis yesterday. Yes it hurts, but I don’t care… It’s so awesome that I’ll continue playing every day no matter what.

In table tennis at least the controller is so awesome and accurate that I can replicate those tricky reverse rotation effect shots that I used to do when I was in college… you know those that make the ball jump back when it hits your opponent table… ok.. just that.”

The move is awesome, and if you think different it’s probably cause you haven’t used it or that you have never done in real life what you are doing with the move… means you don’t really know how accurate to real world the move gets.

To answer XxDeathDoctorxX yes the Tiger Woods demo on the disc definitely has a problem. It seems completely unresponsive to the move controller and yes I had the option to use the move controller in the controller settings on. No matter what I did it would not work and I tried for a while. I also had a problem with the TV Superstars demo where it would not calibrate correctly. Every time I calibrated the cursor would just drift to the left and off of the screen. I could not get it to work either and it’s disappointing because both of those games look so fun. Sports Champions on the other hand works amazingly well. I love the way I can add spin to the ball with a twist of the wrist in Table Tennis. Great game, great controller. My hat is off to Playstation. The Playstation Move is simply a great product.

the three great games in sport champions are table tennis, archery, and gladiator…the latter is best if played with 2 controllers. only online multiplayer would be better….

I think if more people have the chance to try the move before buying the sales would get better. I think its really fun i am loving the table tenis and the archery, the others are alright but those two for now are the ones im loving to play.

I am seriously addicted to table tennis. Right now I’m at the highest difficulty. The second character took me a while to beat for some reason. My shoulder is really getting a workout with all the swinging I’m doing.

MOVE is awesome, spread the word.
