The Drop: Week of October 11th 2010 New Releases

97 11

Happy 10.10.10 everyone. I hope the weather is as beautiful where ever you are as it is here in San Francisco. Jeff and I racked up several hundred frequent flyer miles this week when we traveled to Toronto, Canada and New York’s Comic Con for three impressive PlayStation events for the gaming press and our PlayStation community. It was a pleasure to meet each and every one of you. Expect to see an ultimate highlight reel featuring all three events. Stay tuned!

The-Drop-Main-Header

I’m just about finished with Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (I hear the ending is amazing) and eagerly await to get my hands on Medal of Honor and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, which are headlining this week’s new releases. But let’s not forget Dead Space: Ignition, which reveals the secrets behind the Necromorph outbreak hours before the world met Isaac Clark in the original Dead Space. Grab your poutine, a jar of maple syrup and meet me at Honest Ed’s for this week’s The Drop.

  • Is The Shoot releasing this week?

  • Wow, what a great Drop. Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Arc the Lad and Alundra all in one week. That just rocks :-). I own Arc the Lad collection for PSOne and the first game was actually my favorite (I even took at the time to finish the optional 50 level dungeon which was 50 levels down and 50 up). I have Alundra 2 but I never got to play the first one so I will be looking forward to that.

And then there is Sonic 4. I already got a sequel to one of my favorite Genesis games, Rocket Knight and now finally, they make a Console Worthy 2D Sonic game. It may just be episode 1 but I don’t care, I’ll buy all of them. I was watching the videos and all of the zones like they hearken back to Sonic 2 which personally, I thought was the best game in the series.

I’ve had my hands full with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and enjoying every minute of it but these publishers are giving me yet some more reasons to buy again. I can’t wait :-)

  • Arc the Lad
    Dead Space: Ignition

Hm. Some good releases, finally! I assume this also means we’re getting Arc the Lad II and Arc the Lad III later?

  • How much will Sonic 4 be? And will it be available at a discount for PS+ members? Thanks PS Blog Team!

  • @16 Sheennshine7 yep, it is a bit embarrasing that the WII can out perform (at least in web functionality ) than the PS3 . untill when or if SCEA improves it you can direct the PS3 browser to the mobile version of facebook . heres the link http://m.facebook.com

there are other mobile version of sites as well that work better in the ps3 browser as well , such as blogger .

  • Thanks for the reply Rey. I didn’t know about AskPlayStation. Both PS3s were goners, but it’s good to know for the future.

  • So Alundra AND Arc the Lad? Both of those games were originally localized by Working Designs. Are these the WD versions or new translations since WD is dead and Victor Ireland is off with Gaijinworks?

If it’s the WD version does that mean other WD games are coming as well?

  • Getting Arc and hopefully II&III on down the road woulkd be nice and love Alundra so thats good to hear. But um..Vagrant Story and especially Xenogears someday?? That would be nice as well.

  • Where is “PlayStation Around The Web: What We Read?”

  • @56
    Nevermind

  • IS KINGDOM HEARTS BIRTH BY SLEEP EVER GONNA COME TO PSN FOR THE PSP-GO USERS THATS THE STUFF U NEED TO FIND OUT

  • ill pass on sonic for now till all of them comes out cus they most likely will be bundled and cheaper too lol also likin the ps1 and minis u guys r brining how did u pull off getting Zenonia i thought that was only for the itouch/iphone not that im complaning :D hey do u think u can also maybe starting next week put the prices for the games and everything?

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss.
    Alundra. Thank you.
We still need Tomba. I would pay $60 for it. Do it up.

  • The week is pimp yo. New Sonic, some Arc Lad and Whos that flying? Hells yeah!

  • @cman199
Sorry man, SquareEnix shows no signs of interest in releasing a digital copy of that game. Personally, its a little more then a piracy issue. Which makes it a little bit more stupid than anything.

    @Dafreakzo
Sonic’s gonna be released at $15, and supposudly has 26 levels based off of the original games(got that from a sega rep last week). No idea about a PS+ discount though.

    @Handbrain
Who doesn’t like the Tomba games.

  • Arc the Lad AND Alundra?!?!? All at once?!

okay, did the guy that decides on PS1 classics die? and someone extremely awesome take his place?

  • How much will Zenonia cost?

  • @47: Flight Control HD isn’t coming to North America. Check their website, they apologised for not being able to release it in NA. Looks like you’ll have to create a UK account to get it if you really want it.

  • I’m pretty sure I saw cannon cameras.

  • *gasp* ALUNDRA!!!

  • Great Job guys! I Can’t wait to play “Dead Space Ignition” and “Sonic 4” (The sonic we’ve been waiting 16 years for!)
How much will it cost? ;)

  • lol. I thought Costume Quest was coming Tuesday, but looks like its the 19th. Oh well. One more week! :)

Anyway, Arc the Lad AND Alundra?! WHOA! I never played the first Arc the Lad, but I did play Alundra. Cool game. I’m sure the first Arc the Lad is good too. I’ll have to get both of these sooner or later! :)

And a demo for Sonic 4! Awesome. Will there be a demo for Medal of Honor this week too? What bout Dead Space Ignition? Both would be cool.

Well it sounds like we’re in for a very good PSN update this week (plus some U.S. people will be getting the LBP2 beta!)

  • do u guys talk about add-ons here if u do any news on the MAG escalation mission pack

  • when are u guys going to allow the ps3 slim or any ps3 be able to play the ps2 games….i have sooooo many ps2 games i want to play on my ps3 but i cant*sigh*…i hope u guys are still working on the problem

  • @43 Well Gt sucks, and always has.
The cars are to slow, and the handling sucks.
The only thing Gt has for it is graphics, and now Nascar.

  • @SuperSpoofStudio
I asked the Sega rep at the Toronto event, she said $15.
It apparently covers a whole whack of levels.

The question would be if they are all about getting there fast.
The demo they had there could be finished in about 2mins.

    @hjason1
It’s all a matter of taste.
GT was designed to be a solid simulator. Whereas most of the gaming market is filled with less then realistic physics.
Personally, my brother and I enjoyed the burnout series on the PS2. However, there are more then a few enthusiests who have been waiting for the GT series to “catch up”.

  • What time (gmt please) is the PS store updated on wednesday?

  • Definitely too many games coming out.
I just finished Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and now I’m gonna be working on Enslaved. But I’m moving soon, so I can’t really get much gaming on until after I move.

But by then, I plan on getting Medal of Honor, The Force Unleashed 2, Sonic 4, Vanquish, and Splatterhouse. :( I usually don’t complain about the rapid game releases, but I simply can’t catch up. So my October gaming might be pushed far into November.

Black Ops, GT5, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, 007: Blood Stone, and the Sly Collection are going to have to wait until sometime December. I’m sure I’m missing some here too, but this is all that comes to mind at the moment.

  • WHERE ARE ALL OF THE PSPGO AND PSP GAMES, THAT IS WHAT I LIKE TO BUY. I DO THINK THAT I MIGHT CHECKK OUT WHATS THAT FLYING. IT LOOKS A LITTLE LIKE MONSTERS probably STOLE MY PRINCESS. STILL A GOOD UPDATE THOUGH.

  • Barely any PSP support.. “Piracy ruined it.” — Really think so?

See: Satoru Iwata. Buyers aren’t dumb; we’ve already known.

  • @ Rey
“Hit up @AskPlayStation on twitter next time you’re having trouble with your PlayStation. =)”

Really?? Is @AskPlaystation going to fix my 2 YLODs and my faulty Blu-ray lens? I don’t think a Twitter account can come rip my PS3 to pieces and replace the insides. SCEA Service wouldn’t even do that, they just sent me refurbished consoles. Lame suggestion, sir. You really think someone is sending their console in for service just because they can’t find the power button or sync their DualShock3? The failure rate of 60GB models needs to be addressed. I’m on my 4th console. It’s patronizing and almost rude to suggest someone Tweet a problem they’re obviously having their console serviced for. Just shows that you have no idea the impact one of these (or several consecutive) YLODs or console failures can have on your consumer’s pocket book, their day to day lives, or their enthusiasm for gaming in general. Shame on you.

  • what’s up with netflix and a PSN+ discount for netflix?

  • @Letters2Kay
Wait a sec, the guy can only give a base suggestion on what to do.
Being a front line employee and having a brother in IT leaves me with the knowledge that there are a ton of problems. Most are as simple as plugging the moniter in. Others are so laid back in the que that they are ignored.

Recently my system too was aflicted by a relatable ailment.
I looked up what it was and was simply struck hard by the costs(and the lost saves).
$200+ to repair the system with only a 3 month warantee on a reoccuring hardware issue. Exact same issue struck me on my fat ps2.
    We’re all in this together.

  • Sonic 4 is mine. Almost own every sonic game to date, pretty big fan but there were so many disappointments, i just hope i can say this sonic game is the one! :)

Also will be buying Medal of Honor on the same day. Ah, Tuesday looking good.

  • Any word on echochrome ii?

I was interested in Medal of Honor, since it has PS3 exclusive content, so I might pick that up, but I’m still pretty busy with Castlevania :). I’ll try the Sonic demo but I’m not expecting much, I loved it when I was a kid but Sonic has been dead to me for some time now.

  • How aabout Breath of Fire 3 for the PSOne Classics here in the States?

  • I will be buying a lot for the PSP this week. I will be buying Alundra. I hope Vic Ireland can get more great games like that on PSN next. I will also be picking up both Mini games Zenonia & Who’s That Flying?. I also have a question will PS+ add more PSP features. Because for me at least right now it is only good if you play most of your games on the PS3. The only game that was a deal for me with PS+ was GaiaSeed & I did not want to buy PS+ just for one game. So please think about adding more PSP stuff for PS+ then I will upgrade.

  • Thanks for the what to expect this Tuesday update. Excited for Invizimals (the most), Sing It: Party Hits and Arc The Lad.

  • any news on just the camera being released for a system such as the psp 1000 series? looking forward to medal of honor. it’s amazing how it’s almost here. as for ignition, looking to see if my gamestop offers it for free with a pre order for dead space 2. looks like much fun though. thanks for the post. always like the heads up on releases.

  • MoH’s sequel is soo gonna merk Black Ops’z sequel, however Blak Ops looks like itz gonna pwn da present MoH

  • When do we get the EyePet Avatars? we just keep getting those crap street fighter ones..

  • @33 and 82 what do you guys do to your ps3s? I’ve had mine since feb 2007 and not one problem. It was 60gb now its 500gb. You guys must really beat on them. Just curious how you destroy them so fast

  • Looking forward to finally trying out Sonic 4.

  • Alundra, that is a classic. The game has ne annoying puzzle. Drove me crazy. Good to see a classic hit PSN.

  • Isn’t the “Psycho Pack” DLC for Dead Rising 2 dropping this week too?

  • It’s upsetting when reps dodge psp go questions (“itofuman” mentioned a question about psp go and disney sing it, the rep completely ignored the psp question) we have ever right to be upset with the slow/none release of older titles that we were promised. I for one sold my entire collection and psp 2000 to get the psp go and almost every single game that I sold is NOT on the go. 300 dollars down the drain and it would cost me a fortune to get those games back with another umd using system. I then called sony and told this same speech and asked if i could send them back my go in return for a psp 3000. They laughed at me. great company who does nothing for there customers. Not to mention I’m having problems with my media go (store while come up with a error and not work at all) I told them the error number and they had no clue what to do or what it was. how do you not know what your own error codes are? to this day my media go store doesn’t work. great job sony
