Gran Turismo 5 Release Update

909 0

We can confirm that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available this November 2nd, but the game’s release will be coming this holiday season.

We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.

We’ll have more information for you in the near future.

  • I hope to play this game in this lifetime!

  • This post is all kinds of late, but SCEA really should get the Signature Edition ready for the US, since you have some extra time now.

  • JUST GIVE US THE GAME ALREADY! The Ps3 has internet and hardrives for a reason, UPDATES, you can fix it later, whatever it is with a patch, if its not here this year im going to give my PS3 away.

  • THANK YOU so much!! -__-
I preodered this game a few weeks ago.. I can’t believe.
It better be the best racing game in history or else it’ll be a joke. I think I’m going to change my order to NFS Hot Pursuit or COD Black OPS because holidays mean another 2 months.. and I just can’t wait any longer!!

  • Here’s betting that Gran Turismo 6 is released before Gran Turismo 5.

  • @TUSTIN1 Thank you for pointing out my oversight. What I really meant to say was, I do not believe it will be coming out first half of the year, even if the release date states 1/1/2011. Same calendar as you though. :)

I hope I’m wrong, but not holding my breathe any longer.

  • @JRBELLA – Finally, someone who agrees with my opinion of NFS Shift! Thank you!!!!!!!

  • What the, this game has been deleyed too many times i’m sick of waiting for the game!!!

  • Just cancelled my pre order. I won’t be buying a game from a company who are obviously no good at making games and enjoy messing their loyal customers about. I’ll buy it secondhand from ebay.

  • Everybody i know why they had to delay it. It is because of the jailbreakers. they had to change the sdk on the game so it won’t get pirated. i’m comfortable with their decision . i think it is only right they do this but they should have informed us with the truth . i did NOT cancel my pre order after i learned about this. i wouldn’t want nobody pirating this game , especially after all the work that’s been done. the developers deserve their money . you guys complaining can thank the loser pirates for this.

  • Having logged thousands of hours in the Gran Turismo series and Poliphony Digital games in general, I’m just as eager as anyone to get my hands on the latest and greatest.
With that being said and having read all of the 759 comments so far, I find it ridiculous to claim to be cancelling your preorders and even swapping out consoles. Instead of leaping to conclusions and posting hate, have a little patience and take the time to research the cause for the delay. Kazunori and Sony are notoriously secretive, but if you give it a little time you will find plenty of credible sources of information. (This blog is credible, but not timely in updates.)
The cause for delay is reportedly in production (read disc pressing). PD missed the deadline by 3 days to incorporate the latest firmware update to combat piracy, so their line in que for Blu-ray publishing was pushed in to a later time slot and something replaced theirs. This was on behalf of Sony’s wishes and I completely agree with it.
The wait shouldn’t be too much longer to the definitive driving simulator of this generation.
Keep up the good work, Kaz and the PD crew.

  • Make that 760 posts. Thanks, NURADEEN :P

  • And that’s PolYphony Digital. I apologize.

  • walt, you’re right but the secrecy is part of problem as well. if pd would have given more information and a new firm release date then the backlash wouldn’t be nearly as bad. if they were 3 days late then shouldn’t it just be a 1 week delay? We’re left in the dark again. with how this game has been touted the end user feels ignored and unappreciated. we’re the ones that will ultimately make this game successful or not. if they came out and said we had to delay the game to combat piracy then the backlash would be against the pirates, instead it’s directed at them. information is a powerful tool, misuse of information can be a weapon against you.

  • “creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience”

This had better be the perfect racing experience…you’ve been working on it since I was a fetus!

  • “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”

whatever sony. my clean comment isn’t what needs moderated. it’s your staff who constantly fails to get anything done that needs moderation.

  • Pre-order cancelled.

  • no problem here, finally finished GT 3
    a-spec…….ALL GOLD licences yahooo!Now GT5 Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!!

  • Walt8605 & nuradeen, back to the sce mailroom you two. Coffee breaks over. Nobody gives a flying pile of steaming dog excrement what a pair of minor sony functionaries has to say. Trolls are irrelevant.

  • Recancelling my previous pre-order.

  • BTW, having a re-read of more comments and thought this needed pointing out. Sony & Polyphony digital never had any intention of meeting the Nov.2 so called “release date”. Their petty little foaming at the mouth trollboys wont tell you this but its easily verifiable fact. The Discs & packaging are all produced in china. With their “expected sales forcast” (not based in reality btw) they would have been producing them at least 4 weeks ago to provide shipping time by sea (no air freight is not cost effective or large enough for this). And no sony wont be scrapping tens of thousands of discs for this missed release date. And before the trollboys attack yet again no GT5 wont be coming this year. Its impossible, there is not enough time to produce discs, package them, ship to north america and get them to thousands of retailers. Anyone who claims otherwise is clueless at best.

  • @753 Yeah, that would be fine and dandy and be fine for us mature gamers; but as you have seen before possibly with releases such as “Modnation Racers” people whine and complain like mad and even don’t buy the game if it isn’t patched THAT WEEK. Modnation Racers is an incredible game in a Mario Kart aspect but the problem is that it attracts children that can’t wait the 30 second initial load time so they have a fit. Also, “It was too hard even after the patch to reduce the game’s difficulty waaaah.” I have news for you little Johnny; If you had trouble beating the game pre-patch then you’re gonna suck online anyway just sell the game and have mommy buy you Call of Doody.

  • 1)If you need to ask, you’re brain dead or have been in a lengthy coma!

Multiple versions, building from continual development… GT-HD, Prologue and the revisions that followed…

GT5 is partly shaped by what fans thought. Enthusiasts that appreciate the fact that nothing else is better, gave feedback for years.

2)All of those ppl waiting? What planet are u from fool!

You don’t represent me you baby, you’re an idiot! Do me a favour, sell ur PS3, and stop posting crap…

I think most cancelling pre-orders, are doing so because their paper rounds aren’t enough to raise money before Santa arrives…

The GT5 experience will last for years, will NFS? No, idiots… to mention an arcade racer in the same line as GT5 shows what moron’s think, go set your alarms for school…

    @DaveFIX | October 14th, 2010 at 1:12 pm

    1) If my memory serves me right GT5 was announced as “in development” in 2005-06 which was around the time of the PS3 release. How can this game take so long to develop?

    2) How can this game meet the expectations of all those are waiting? Simple answer. It can’t.

  • I am one of the biggest GT fans i know but with this latest delay I have found myself questioning on if i am even going to buy the game. i might do it just to prove a point that being a company of your word is important to a gaming community. I would not have minded if you would have told me in 2006 that the game will be released in 2010 (almost 2011) just as long as you live up to your word. but to give us delay after delay has my heart torn on if i should buy a game from a company that doesnt stand by their customers and lies to them for 4 years or should i just be angry about it and call it water under the bridge. I suppose we will have to wait and see how long the delay is and how dissapointed i am with Polyphony Digital on the day of release

  • @ bimmaguy | October 14th, 2010 at 11:12 am

    Pre-order of Collectors Edition cancelled.
    ——————————————

SO WHAT! Bye idiot! (waving hand)

  • @FormerPSfan | October 15th, 2010 at 9:13 am

Sony & Polyphony digital never had any intention of meeting the Nov.2 so called “release date”. GT5 wont be coming this year
    ———————–

I’ll put a bet on eBay, £50. You pay my bet now, if my pre-order doesn’t arrive in 2010 – you can place a listing on eBay for £100 – you’ll get your £50 back and an extra £50 from me…

    You are a twit, that’s a typo…

Go set your alarm for school ‘Former’PSfan… child!

  • @formerPSfan you make me laugh lol . if you’ve ever read any of my other comments on this blog you would know i don’t defend sony (IM still mad about getting robbed for other os) but i will say the truth about piracy , it sux . developers deserve their money for this game IF it’s up to par. you are more a troll than i’ll ever be. IF GT5 DOES’NT RELEASE THIS YEAR THAN I WILL ROAST PD AND SONY but until then. the only game i really wanted this year was the last guardian and cancelled my pre order as soon as i found it was delayed.

  • Xanthene, I don’t think that 3 days would only warrant a weeks delay. There has to be several other games and movies to be published that have been waiting their line in que. You have to think about the other developers and producers. Sony, unfortunately, has them in mind first and foremost. GT5 will get the first available slot. Which, is to be at an indeterminate time and date (some time this “holiday season”). Yes, we are in the dark and we deserve more information. I completely agree.

FormerPSfan, I’m pretty sure the cases are done and the discs are made. They just need printed, packaged and shipped out. I don’t know anything about all the “bonus content” to be included with Collector’s Editions and Signiture Editions, but af far as consumer ready, packaged discs, I think a release this year is logistically possible. By the way.. as a “former PlayStation fan” what’s your interest in any of this anyway? Seems to me you’re the troll here…

  • NURADEEN – “they had to change the sdk on the game so it won’t get pirated”

they changed the software development kit?
that would come from Sony, not Polyphony Digital.
if the answer was to update piracy nonsense, that could’ve easily been a day 1 patch. i’ve had several games update to a v1.01 as soon as i launch a new game from the XMB.

Polyphony Digital said in an interview i read last year (i think it was on IGN) that the game could have been released already, but the PD crew, and Kazunori Yamauchi in particular, haven’t released it because they want to keep tinkering with it… i expect this is just more of the same. they just don’t want to let it go.

  • GT5 will be pushed back to spring 2011!!

  • damaged_case, the reason to include the 3.50 update on disc is to actually force you to install said update. (Insert disc > start game > forced install of 3.50 > game data install > start GT Life and enjoy) If it were to be shipped, as planned, with 3.41, it would have been piratable as you can choose to ignore the update and play happily offline. With the 3.50 on disc it would FORCE the pirates to update their consoles firmware curbing any piracy.

  • BLAH BLAH BLAH, whatever…

    @ Jimmy_Cosmos | October 15th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
GT5 will be pushed back to spring 2011!!

  • Pls don’t post about something you don’t understand – if the game was burned to Blu-Ray it can be hacked, ppl wouldn’t be playing online you idiot! Sony could stop that…

The SDK update has to be done before the final game is burned, because otherwise ppl could hack it and simply play it offline! Doh!

A patch, as u suggest, would only catch out those stupid enough to go online and accept updates… der, like they’re gonna do that!

    @ damaged_case | October 15th, 2010 at 12:06 pm

NURADEEN – “they had to change the sdk on the game so it won’t get pirated”

if the answer was to update piracy nonsense, that could’ve easily been a day 1 patch…

  • way to go Sony now GT5 is the Real WAITING Simulator… Thanks for screwing Christmas.

  • Bottom line…Polyphony dropped the ball and this is gonna hurt.

In all of my prior jobs and current self employment, meeting delivery dates is not something taken lightly. Miss a date and you get the reputation that goes with it…and the loss of business that goes with that reputation.

Personally, I’m canceling my pre-order for GT5 and putting the money toward Need For Speed instead. The series has always been strong (NFS Pro Street maybe no so much) and it delivers on time.
As for GT5…when I get bored after playing the 12 or so games I’m planning on getting this holiday season, I’ll buy it used…if it even comes out by then.

  • ^^^ @RapidfireRay

    Yep, that’s just the point…

In time, we all get bored with the so called competition, let’s be honest, it’s shallow unskilled crap…

Anyone downloaded the Official WRC garbage for console??? The trees and scenery look like they are ported from the Wii! They spent time developing a graphics engine that’s already 2 years behind Codemasters DiRT/EGO engine! Smart move…

You’ll be creating, playing and gifting new tracks via GT5 to mates still in 12+ months!

With 1,000 cars and unlimited tracks, u could manage with GT5 until PS4 arrives in 3 years! That’s realistic.

LOL, I doubt you’ll see used GT5 for some time after its delayed launch, get real. Unless ppl get it as a bundle but like football and fps games…

You’ll put the £8 you’ll get for NFS towards GT5 in a few months, be honest – you’ll regret when you do, that you just didn’t get over it and miss out NFS anyway…

  • Hmmm…They didn’t specify which holiday season. 2010,2011,2012? pre-ordered about 2 weeks ago. It’s been almost 5 years, whats another 30 to 365 days I guess. Very disheartening. They might as well just hold out for the PS4. PD is killing me. Why the hell would you wait till 2 weeks to launch to delay? OMFG very irritating.

  • 1)Doubting buying doesn’t put you in the big fan arena. Delays r crap. In 2 yrs, nowt will beat GT5. A 360 couldn’t do GT5, I own one!

I get why ppl r sad!

2)How could they know Oct09, it won’t land Nov10? Honestly? Kaz’s exceeded expectations!

Rain/snow, day/night, 1000+ hi polygon cars, track creator, Nascar, Dust/dirt!

DiRT2 has no Snow FFS! Excluding a ‘must-have’ so you buy DiRT3! GT5 has a Rally game inc with random tracks ffs!

3)I drove 170 mls for PS Beta Rooms. Just to test it, posting vids on youtube 4Uall…

Expect not2b blown away? U kid urself!

The build was prob 6 mnths old, h/brake wasn’t working on Rally car! I booked time off for GT5, that’s how gr8 it is!

True drivers/GT fans u’ll be amazed, g’teed. Happy, yes hard to grasp, it took ages. Be excited, no doubts. I drove GT5 35 mins+, in GT5P I lap in top 100. Trust me, it’s mega!

    ;)

  • LMAO, that’s beer, not bear, I cannot accept responsibility for you entering the wild and groping a bear…

You may get lucky, but I seriously doubt it…!

  • Try jan 1 2011 on the EB web site. so that comes down to this maybe holiday 2011 you will see the game thanks sony for nothing. Thats my biggest mistake not buying Forza 3.

  • What a joke. This was the only game I was looking forward to.

  • Kaz realized that he’d never match the perfection of Forza or be able to compete with the sales numbers of CoD: Black Ops and he threw in the towel. :( He’s now working on Motor Toon Grand Prix 3 for the DS due in 2035.

  • I even rushed my thesis so I could make it in time for the release! sigh….

  • Just want to update to Sony cancelled my limited edition GT preorder got the money back and purchase Halo Reach and finding a used copy of Forza. I had GT 5 preorder twice over the last 4 years only to get burned. This is the last time I am falling for this. I will buy a used copy in 6 months after the release of GT if it ever does. striving for excellence is great but you had this game in development for 6 years if it isnt perfect by now then it will never be. I hope someone from Sony read this because you just lost $100.00 good work.

  • This is so unprofessional of Polyphony, Sony, all of you guys producing this. And I do mean the producers because it seems to me the game is being fluffed up to be a technical demo (3D, facial recognition, etc.) and the producers are ignoring the key demographic of hardcore GT fans whose #1 priority is the physics engine, which should well be finished by now. Same with 2D graphics and smooth frame rates. And if you have no idea when you will actually be finished then don’t market a non-existent product so aggressively. That’s bad business. I am angry that I pre-ordered the collectors edition not because I’m out a measly 10% on the deposit, but because I’ve been looking forward to this all month… and its also morally wrong to take money from people when you really have no solid product in existence you can give back in return. Pre-orders should never be taken on a game still going through QC. Never. You market aggressively after QC, not before. Polyphony, Sony, you are quality operations and should sure as heck know this by now.

  • LOL @ the childish foaming at the mouth trolls defending sony. Do you honestly think anybody believes you at this point? heres a clue: NO! Can you not find gainful employment doing something useful instead of this? Obviously not. Do you think any college business program teaches harassment of core customers? wait nvm, you never went.

Yes folks this is Unprofessionalism at its worst. Not just the lies and propaganda about a non-existant product but the open harassment of customers who paid for this vapourware. Yes the very people who keep you in business and you treat them like garbage. DISPICABLE

  • relax guys and girls. dont worry they making sure good one! take our times. GT is GOD!

  • All of you are pathetic to read about this delay. Really, is your lives so short of content you have to sit here and cry about a game’s delay? Surely you must know what causes a delay, right? it means UNFINISHED development but i guess you all wanted it back then at the first release date announced because you fail to understand why delays are happening. If any of you think you can do it faster or better, then please contact PD, or be quiet since whining is not going to make your lives better, suck it up ppl.
