Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

Susan Panico's Avatar + Posted by Susan Panico on Oct 27, 2010 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Network

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

PlayStation Rewards - Stacked

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

PlayStation Rewards Homepage

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.

To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.

We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!

i may not be the first to ask this, but will this also count for content previously purchased on the PS store?

Is there any indication that this program will be handled better then the PS+?

Rewarding loyalty to the PlayStation Universe with perks is a very nice idea!

Can they make trophies part of the Playstaton Rewards like for example if I reach a certain levels or have a certain number of platium trophies, I get a good rewards.

I like the idea, but please involved the PSN trophies because I believe trophies can have some significant.

Why must someone be a playstation plus member? I already buy and download stuff from the store. Non-members should not be excluded if purchases are being made outside the playstation plus membership. That really sucks!

so, is this the “p.s. thanks” aka PlayStation thanks program you guys announced a long time ago? I hope it’s still called p.s. thanks, that was pretty clever.

Another excuse not to give this bonus/reward content to paying PlayStation Plus subscribers. Now instead of giving their “loyal fans” goodies, they can skimp on PS+ even more than they have been doing these last couple months, and only give goodies to a select few of them. Yay!~

I agree with Glacier928, I as well have spent well over 2000 dollars in PS3 games, merchandise, PSN store games, themes, avatars(and I’ve been a PS + member since the VERY beginning(and I’m proud of it) etc.. I sure hope that this rewards system can backtrack through our game history and see which games we have bought, and put them toward this program :D

I love how i can’t be a tester or part of this program cause

1. I’m Canadian
2. in order to get a chance to take part in this i have to be a Plus member or GAP member

i love gaming. i’m a level 17 Trophy collector and i can’t take part cause of Canadian Laws … that’s the stupidist thing ever. it’s not even a damn contest! your just giving things away for free ! what’s next for Canadians ? charging $1 a demo ? demos are free over here ya know maybe you should take them away from us or start charging.

i’m getting sick of this Sony. i’m being neglected for the last time. take your rewards program and buzz off if it makes it’s way to Canada i don’t want to be a part of it. you can give me uncharted 3 for free and i’l still not take it. I’ll boycott this thing 100 %

I “Like” this. plus I spend alot on games on the psn. I could fill a wall with al the psn cards I have bought in the last year. spent $1300 in home already, about 60 psn exclusives, 20 disc based games and I buy a heck of alot of dlc and any pinball related games that come out. Plus I have a psp go, psp 3000, psp2000 and a psp 1000. follow me on twitter because “I am ThatSonyGuy”.

Great news

but…

Loyal Playstation fans don’t see the value in Plus because we’ve supported and already bought almost everything offered for Plus subscibers on day one at full price. Just sayin’.

Also obligatory “What about Canada?!” comment.

ok
Need to see what exactly the perks are for the rewards.

Things i am looking forward to

gamer tag with insignia for rewards member
unique perks for ingame play
early tests to demos/beta program

the plus program already grants some of this but whats a little more.
Would like to be able to take credit for all the old ps2 titles that i have used prior to ps3 and continued to use on ps3.

That is all.

I’m really into the home network and like to do anything to get rewards what is I got playstation plus and did this… I’m not asking what rewards will be there (because I don’t know if that is a question that can be answered)… but maybe someone would be willing to answer me if I ask it this way,

I’ve been thinking of buying playstation plus for a good long while and now I want to buy it even more, and while the extras and freebies were appealing but I could do without them, but now home content is being offered on this rewards exclusive beta program… and I would like to know, would it be smart to buy the playstation plus year package for the freebies, extras, and now even more importantly the home rewards?… or does the rewards refer to something like a simple shirt that says Rewards User or something to that affect?

(I ask cause now the home rewards is included in the advantages of PS+ and now I have a reason to want to buy it… and so I would be basing the purchase of PS+ solely on this… to condense all of that, should I buy playstation plus year package for the home rewards included in this rewards program?)

The goal is to give you guys things in the program that you can’t find anywhere else. So the Home content will be exclusive to PlayStation Rewards (more than a Home t-shirt :)

On you decision to subscribe to PlayStation Plus; to clarify, we’re inviting PlayStation Plus subscribers to the beta, but when we’re out of beta you won’t need to have a Plus subscription to participate in this program.

I don’t use the us.playstation.com site often as I find it to be a mess(I have sent in recommendations before on fixing it). Due to that I doubt I will level up to the top tiers of this but I am an avid gamer who drop far too much time and money into my hobby.

I just hope this is a fully supported project once out of beta as many things seem to get very lackluster support after launch.
