Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.
In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!
Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.
The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.
So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…
- Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
- Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
- Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)
That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!
If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.
To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.
We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!
Great Idea! Thanks Sony. Any Idea what time the emails will be going out today?
so , basically if you spent a ton of money on psn before playstation+ and didn’t subscribe because you already bought most of what’s offered with + at full price you are S.O.L. ? no rewards for a loyal customer since ps3 launch but someone who ignores psn until last summer and only spends $50 to get psn + suddenly gets the star treatment ? not fair at all
you should be looking at those psn users who actually have been supporters for a while by buying games and spending time on the blog .
proud owner of over 90 psn titles , lots of dlc etc. – but again disappointed in Sony for ignoring that .
Sounds great, Fingers crossed I get an invite tomorrow!
Will our trophies be used as a point system or anything? would be cool to gain exclusive stuff for being a high level player
Accepting rewards doesn’t cost points towards the next tier does it? For example: if I am 20 points away from going “pro”, and I download a dynamic theme as a reward for “select”. Will I now be 50 points away from “pro”? I hope not. I would hate having to decide between accepting a reward that I kind of like and holding out for a reward that I REALLY like.
I can wait for this! i have and do whatever it takes to be in the “Legendary” category. I have over 110 PS3 disc based games, over 100 psn games, 50 blu-rays, 2 psps ( 1 psp go the other psp og! haha) I have the orginal 60 gig ps3 and will be getting the ps3 slim for the holidays. I got my 200″ sony projector and a 40″ sony bravia! And i have my 7.1 sony surround sound speakers! All i need is 3D and i am set for Legendary!
if by loyal you mean people who spend a lot of money and time on their PS3, then i guess i’m not loyal enough… tho having had to buy a 2nd PS3 due to the first one dying on me is pretty loyal… and so is jumping on the Move bandwagon as well, thats pretty loyal… but since i can’t afford to spend tons of money on content and new games, then my loyalty has its limits..
and only a GAP member, not paying for PS+ anytime soon…
don’t get me wrong, i love my gaming with the PS systems i’ve owned since day one, but real life dictates where my money goes and at this time and the foreseeable future, its to make ends meet… i will simply play the games I have at my disposal…
PeAce!!
ps- wheres our current gen iteration of Destruction Derby or Test Drive:Eve of Destruction.????? Anyone with me on this???
Sounds like I’m IN
I’m a Canadian PS Plus member, I feel very shafted that we don’t get to participate in the beta program.. what the heck does an imaginary line separating two countries have to do with gaming and being a loyal PlayStation fan and PS plus member, FAIL on Sony’s part big time
I realy hope this stuff comes also for Europe, kinda sad seeing the good stuff only for the USgamer ;(
I’m not either of those, which sucks because I’m on here all the time. But, I guess it doesn’t matter because I have no money to Get high on the list anyway. I’m already to hour 160 in patapon 2. Can we get higher for better trophies? By the way, when will you give the PSP trophy support? How hard is it to make a program that reads saves and gives you trophies accordingly? I’ve been burning through my PSP for 2 years, and have nothing to show for it. Also, what exactly can you do in GAP anyway? I signed up for playstation underground, but I didn’t get anything there. Mostly I just read the blog, vote on ideas, and post ideas that NEVER get approved.
I’m loving the idea of this program, but it’ll be up to Sony to make sure it’s execution is fantastic.
One minor gripe. While going to CES would be great, why didn’t you choose E3 as the prize? A video gamers conference versus an electronics conference — seems like a natural choice to me.
this is just awesome! thank you sony and the playstation team for bringing this program up for us your loyal fans/customers.btw,i’m a gap member too :0
I subscribed to Playstation Plus right away, I’ve owned my PS3 for over three years, have a PSP, Playstation Move and a second PS3 in my bedroom.
If that, plus my mountain of DLC and digital game purchases don’t get me there(the rewards beta being “there”), I’m not sure what will. Looking forward to getting rewarded for all the dumb amounts of money I spend on gaming.
Chris,
You keep telling us to act before Oct 24th. Did you realize that it’s October 27th? Does that mean they’re all too late?
Yes, if you are not a GAP member or did not subscribe to PlayStation Plus by October 24, then you’ll have to wait until the program is out of beta.
