PlayStation Home Updates Core Client to Version 1.4

Locust_Star's Avatar + Posted by Locust_Star on Nov 05, 2010 // PlayStation Home Community Manager

Hey everyone!

Great news: On Thursday, November 11th, PlayStation Home will update to version 1.4. This update to the core client will have an enormous impact on users and developers alike, as it is literally jam-packed with new and revised features. A full list of these features will be posted next week, but before the weekend hits I wanted to hop in here and give you all a sneak peek at some of the exciting new features that will be coming with this update.

PlayStation Home Logo

Grouping and Voice Chat
That’s right – voice chat is coming back! With version 1.4 you will be able to form a “Group” with up to 8 people and chat with one another in both public and personal spaces. The best part is that these groups will have dedicated voice and text chat channels that allow you to speak to members of your group regardless of where each of you may be located in-world! New voice and chat channels will also be made available for clubs, making communication with other members of your club much easier.

Wardrobe Improvements
Alongside improved voice chat, many of you have asked for additional inventory/wardrobe management features. Our development team has taken your requests very seriously and have instituted sweeping improvements, including:

  • You will now have the ability to mark items as “Favorites” – making commonly-used items much easier to relocate.
  • Newly-acquired items (along with categories that contain new items) will be marked accordingly.
  • Options for filtering and sorting items have been added, giving you greater control over which items you see and how they are displayed.

There is also a new “Storage” section that will be added to your wardrobe so you can store away items that you do not regularly use. For those with a lot of items in their wardrobe, placing items into storage will result in your wardrobe loading faster, and will make it easier for you to browse your main wardrobe. This system is very flexible and allows you to quickly restore items to your main wardrobe when you need them.

While these are some of the most important changes associated with version 1.4, this does not represent the entire scope of the update. Trust me – we have tons of cool stuff in store for you next week ;) Stay tuned to this blog for a more in-depth list of all the awesome features and improvements coming your way next Thursday.

See you in Home!

Sounds like a winner. I just hope you guys figure out away to better incorporate Playstation Home with either PSN or PS3 games to give users more of a reason to come in. But can’t wait for the update!

Cross Voice Chat over all games and then I’ll be interested

And yea I 2nd making Home more integrated into the overall PS3/PSN experience. Cuz currently, Home makes no sense to me and I see no real reason to use it

YES! Changing my shirt in Home is such a pain. (I have so many freebie shirts I don’t wear that they are just clogging up my inventory now)So glad you guys organized this. Can’t wait to try it out. I like the voice chat in public spaces feature. Still wish it was more like the closed beta where you could hear anyone within range. But I guess the grouping option is probably better. Great to hear Home is getting updated and you guys are still listening and working on these features. Sounds like a great update LS.

For what its worth, I strongly prefer the new version of voice chat over the one that was tested in closed beta. It makes managing your conversations with others much, much easier. But try it for yourself come Thursday and then let us know your thoughts over at the official PlayStation Home forums.

Voice chat, Is this for use only with users on your friends list or can you invite people in public areas to voice chat together if you so wish???

You know — I don’t find Home terrible or anything — but I don’t use it very often. Every now and then I’ll go into the application and check out whatever’s new. If there’s one thing that bugs me, though, it’s that it feels very… slow, I guess?

Maybe it’s the speed that the character moves or other users’ avatars being crystal-clear for so long (loading, constantly) that makes it feel that way, but is there anyway to make Home feel less… well, laggy?

Hope you take my feedback. Only trying to help out with any potential improvement possible.

WoW phone a friend on steroids. But that is the better way to do it. I like the wardrobe changes now if we could get closets in Personal Spaces to put them. But I would like to see then ID’d so that you can find your shirts quicker. I know that would take time to create but maybe in 2025.

Oh my!

I hope Sony adds some kind of way to boot up Home right after you turn on your PS3. Since they removed Linux as an “Other OS”, they should add the feature back, but instead of Linux, use Home as another OS.

I know I’ll live in Home now. I won’t get out of there starting Thursday, and I’ll try to convince my friends to do the same.

I see that the wardrobe will let us “store” items to speed up loading… but will the wardrobe itself load faster? What I mean is loading up my wardrobe today and loading it post patch update, will I see speed improvements even if I don’t manage my wardrobe by storing items? It used to load up a lot faster before and it’s now one of the reasons why I avoid Home as changing clothing can take up to 15-20 minutes, depending on how many articles of clothing I want to change and where they are located in my list :/

I’m going to be honest..HOME right now its OK.. This new means you guys are heading in the right direction..

I have a feeling that HOME will one day replace the XMB..I don’t mean completely replace but the XMB as we not will be running in the back ground of HOME or better integrated.

+ pitythefool852 on November 5th, 2010 at 10:40 am said:

This is great… I’m really looking forward to it. Will the volume depend on proximity or will all of your group be the same volume? I hope it’s surround sound… ie, if the guy is to the left then the sound comes from the left… that’d make it much easier to hear the separate voices.

I really hope 1.4 lets us play our own music to ourselves. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, as Home is so quiet at times. You could even add a “Now listening to…” display under the ID of the people that you meet, that way it’d be easy to find new friends who have the same taste in music as you.

What do you think?

AWESOME!!! The storage & voice/text chat groups are really needed. Thank you for making this happen. Now if you can somehow infiltrate and then influence the fine folks that manage the PS Store to give us a sortable download list, then most of the world’s problems would be solved. :D

YEAH IT’S KINDA BACK!

Do I now have to open up the menu, go thru different headings until i find it, or is it a easy 2 click process?
1. ADD Brian to Group Chat?
2. Remove Brian from group chat?

Most conversations are with 1 or 2 people as your checking out the mall, the playgorund, theater etc.. But this is much better then no chat at all. It’s 1 area, you kinda control, but in the end the same crap is gonna happen.

Soon you will hear some girl was talking in a group, they added someone to it, then that new person starts cursing, making sexual overtones etc

.Which brings me to this question?
In the Group Chat settings, will there still be an option to REPORT members, based on their behavior etc? Will it start recirding, so to speak when you click on Report?

I hope this works, but there is always going to be that 1 person who finds a loophole, or finds his way in, then turns evil and we’ll be hearing about someone getting harrassed an hour into 1.4
