Bluetooth Headset

Hi Everyone! Back in 2008, we unveiled the official Bluetooth Headset for the PlayStation 3. Since then, many of you added it to your arsenal of PS3 must-haves. Today we’re excited to announce a new version of the official Bluetooth Headset for the PS3 system. It will be available at retailers near you this month at the same price ($49.99 MSRP) as the earlier version of this headset.

Bluetooth Headset

The new Bluetooth Headset for the PS3 offers the same unparalleled gaming experience as the previous model, making it a must have for intense online multiplayer games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, MAG or the highly anticipated sci-fi shooter, Killzone 3. It offers a dual-microphone design, automatic pairing via USB cable with the PS3**, in-game headset status indicator**, an easily accessible microphone mute button, and a charging cradle which also functions as a desktop microphone**. On top of all of that, it’s the only device to offer High-Quality (HQ) mode** which delivers crystal clear voice chat while gaming on the PS3.

So what’s different, you ask? New features include a redesign, making it sleeker, high-gloss and more compact – 30% smaller than the original model. In addition, the Bluetooth Headset now has built-in noise cancellation for filtering out ambient noise when used with the PS3 system as well as your mobile phone. Gadget fiends take note – the new Bluetooth Headset isn’t just for gaming. The improved mobile phone feature support allows you to use features such as three-way calling and call waiting. And with nearly six hours of talk time, you can easily take the Bluetooth Headset with you straight from the living room to the streets.

Bluetooth Headset Bluetooth Headset

The new Bluetooth Headset is compatible with devices with Bluetooth 1.1 or higher, and is ideal for gamers, technophiles and anyone in the market for multi-use Bluetooth Headset. Enjoy!

** This feature requires a PS3 system and PS3 system software version 3.50 or later.

Amazon already has them in stock for $49.99. So any chance of a keypad redesign? The one thing it badly needs is backlighting. And what about a HD Eye with improved capture ability?

So there are profiles on it and I can connect it to both a PS3 and a mobile phone without resyncronising it every time?

Yes. You will only need to pair it with your PS3 and mobile phone the first time.

How is the piece that goes into the ear? Hard chunk of plastic? I had the horrible Warhawk bluetooth and hated how it hurt my ear.

The headset has been redesigned to make it more comfortable for long usage time. It is much smaller and lighter now, and a lot friendlier to your ears.

this blog is desperate to say ‘we’ve corrected all the faults from the original one’ but it just doesn’t have the balls.

Bout time. That other one sucked.

Also, a Samsung wep200 is a nice $20 alternative earpiece.

^ this.

Should be given away for free to the people that wasted their money on the first one.

Nice looking. Time to sell my original. Unless I can register the original on the PS Rewards..Can I?

Will you give the GT5 relase date before or after the leaked copies arrive to P2P networks?

16

+ BATTLEFACE on November 8th, 2010 at 6:51 am said:

Pass. The last one had issues with volume, as other players would have a hard time hearing people who used it. Even with the XMB audio device volume set to 5, it’s hard for someone to be heard.

I’d like to see Sony come out with a headphone/ headset combo like my PX21s.

This has built-in noise cancellation that you can use now with your mobile phone. The noise cancellation with PS3 will be much more enhanced as well due to it being built-in to the headset. The previous version used software in PS3 to cancel noise.

Does the blue-tooth headset work on the PSPgo with the high quality mode? Something should be done to make that happen. Just saying.

No. However, you can use it with PSPgo as a standard/regular Bluetooth Headset.

Please tell me this new headset is much more comfortable in your ear than the original headset. The original one starts to really hurt your ear after awhile and if you dont stick it in your ear properly it will fall of very easy.

Damn just bought the old one ><

31

+ HatmanTc on November 8th, 2010 at 7:15 am said:

i might have to go out and grab an extra older model for my iPhone before they are phased out. like #15 said there was nothing wrong with the older design. I am not digging the new look because it reminds me of a cheap 3rd party headset. IMO this is a step backwards

32

+ TUSTIN1 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:16 am said:

This would be better if it was a GT5 release date.

Great. Now give us a Chat Pad that has back-lit buttons, please.

34

+ Skater_Ricky on November 8th, 2010 at 7:18 am said:

I’ll have to pick this new headset up when I get paid I like the new light weight design even tho I enjoy my older official headset.

The best part of all is Noise Cancelation that’s a must for gaming!

And to all the GT5 idiots, the topic says “Bluetooth Headset” not “Gran Turismo 5!” I’m looking forward to that game too, but they already said it would come out before Christmas in a recent interview!

41

+ TUSTIN1 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:25 am said:

@36 Until they announce a release date for GT5, expect every topic to be a GT5 topic.

I might pick up one of these headsets to use while I play my GT5 but in order to do that I need a release date.

44

+ ATOMS11 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:47 am said:

Great! My ears were way to little for the first headset.

45

+ Vu_Prime on November 8th, 2010 at 7:48 am said:

Nice. They really needed this redesign or actually this should have been the original design. The old official bluetooth headset was a PoS in my opinion. Hurt like hell after 30 min of usage. Reason why I actually never use it and I use my Warhawk one instead. I feel like Sony stole my $50 for that piece of crap. It’s currently sitting lonely and dusty on my shelf.

46

+ Korbei83 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:55 am said:

Tempting, but I’m satisfied with the current blocky version.

47

+ Marsz85 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:59 am said:

Redesign usually means a cheaper price point and since this isn’t really offering anything new (no what you listed aren’t features), don’t see the need to invest in this. I prefer the originals by the way.

48

+ Sarno1605 on November 8th, 2010 at 7:59 am said:

Wow….kinda pointless…..the only thing added is it’s smaller and shiny now. I’ll stick with my first gen PS3 mic.

49

+ TakiFuGu on November 8th, 2010 at 7:59 am said:

Damn, once again I get the shaft from my dear Sony people. I am not going to fall into the early adopter situation again. Now to wait for the price to drop just like how I’m doing with the PS Move. It does look way better then the original fat headset.

50

+ Akibara12 on November 8th, 2010 at 8:00 am said:

Oooh! Shiny, shiny! That’ll match nicely with the phat ps3.
