  • Then came 1999 quite the year. Y2K just around the corner and my brothers who were now pushing into high-school rarely spent time with me, but the only time I could ever get them to is when we played Twisted Metal 4. It still makes me laugh how we knew every hiding spot, secret passage, button combo, and how many times we beat the story. Talk about replay value. Never got old driving around in my favorite, but very weak, toy car.Hands down my most memory filled and favorite Twisted Metal(Black in close second of course).
I’m sure the story I just told you won’t bring you to tears or inspire you to write a book anytime soon, but even if I don’t get a figure I hope you enjoyed my story. I know my brothers and I have enjoyed the story of the Twisted Metal series and all it has had to offer us. Cheers to a game that no matter your skill level good times can be had by all and cheers to you, Mr. Jaffe, and the team. I’m sure you all will push out an excellent game!

    Happy Holidays!
    Sincerely,

    krazykat

  • To pick a TM memory isn’t really hard because I have plenty, but I think I may go with one from TM 4. I loved TM 2 & still do til this day, but TM 4 took the crown. I always seen Calypso at the end of each game & I finally got to use him along with this Nuke! I definitely enjoyed all the levels, but I remember stressing over the last level which was the Carnival. I used to hate Minion’s special that sent out multiple rockets at once. However, Sweet Tooth’s special was far worse than his! I remember he would use it and I would see it coming towards me as it was a homing special and once it got me it tore me the hell up! Not only was it homing, but it would hang onto you and shoot tons of missiles rendering you helpless.

  • First of all I wish all the best for Christmas to all of You!:D

Since I was in strange situations till 1999., I didn’t have the opportunity to play TM on PS, and wasn’t able to come across the TM:B for PS2 in Sarajevo… On that part I feel like I lost a lot good moments in My gaming experience. But with PS3 a lot of it has changed. All the new games are on the shelves of the place I used to work at, just in time. So all I’m hoping is to have chance to play PS3 iteration of this great series. And the best part of it is, that I don’t doubt at the quality of the final product. I had a lot of fun playing God of War on PS2, which was a game changer! And that was and is the only real GoW imho, because of the brilliant ending sequence. For TM PS3 I just hope that some of My PSN friends will see the true potential of the game, and jump in:) Mr. Jaffe thank You for helping game industry expand and be recognized!

  • I love Twisted Metal because Sweet tooth is the ONLY clown i like, usually I hate clowns and i love car combat. Been too long since i had a new car combat game.

2- What’s your thoughts on DLC and do you plan one day releasing stuff for TM?

3- Can i have a Sweet tooth action figure signed, you would make me the happiest dude on earth?

  • This would be my first Twisted Metal game and I am so happy that David Jaffe is going to the one who makes it.

  • I loved the signed TM1 display btw.

    Thanks for that.

Very happy to hear the bosses will be huge- I love my bosses huge!

    Looking forward to ’11

All The Best David and ESP

  • Merry Xmas David to you and family

  • Hey David, I would love to get one of those figures. Talk about a great present for Christmas, especially one that is signed by you and the rest of the team. I’ve been a supporter of the TM franchise since the first one came out and its a no brainer I’ll be picking this up day 1. I jumped out of my chair as soon as I heard the first ice cream bell at E3. Anyways have a great holiday and new year, and I can’t wait to play TM next year. See ya.

  • I popped in TM1 & 2 in my phat PS3 last night and we had a Christmas Eve competition… as it should be!!

While they don’t look as good as they appeared to back in the day, the mechanics still hold up and provide a great time.

    Thanks a bunch, Merry Christmas!

  • Developers take notice. This is how you treat your fans. Knowledge in cool figurines :P Im beyond excited to play this. Ever since I played the first one I was hooked on the raw and over the top action. Will be nice to introduce my son to the series. Hes about the age I was when it came out intiially

  • Thanks David, we truly appreciate what you do for Playstation. You’re one of the few who really connects with us and understands us.

  • VERY excited to try out twisted metal for the first time. Never really apealed to me in the past but this is looking great!! Maybe the team could add some sort of soccer multiplayer mode!! 6vs6, giant soccer ball to push into the goal?? JUST A THOUGHT!!

  • i Have an idea how about later if you release a DLC for Twisted Metal you recreate the old twisted metal 2 maps for the new twisted metal i would love to see that in the new twisted metal blowing up the eiffel tower and the statue of liberty again that would be awesome

  • Oh my god i want that figure so badly twisted metal one of my favourite franchises please have some twisted metal avatars on ps3 as well :D

  • well why not give them a mode were your playing extream soccer with huge soccer balls you hit with your car. =P

For real i cant wait for this game and i would love to win this, i never win anything lol. thx for bring back my favorite game jaffe.

  • yes i,m nebee on tm but im looking forward for this new one with great grapichs if any thing like gow then ill play this untill 2012. kept up the good work.

  • *Sorry. Post 249 should had have read “once TM PS3 comes'”

  • I will buy it only because is Twisted Metal. : )

  • Twisted Metal is going to flop with mediocre review scores across the board. Some sites may go a step further by trashing it with their personal dislike of someone as outspoken as Jaffe.

The E3 footage reminds me of Warhawk in it’s shallow depth of gameplay and doesn’t come across as a retail disc sold game but something that belongs as a download. It looks out of date and belongs in the last gen with that horrible GUI. Don’t get me started on those flat rubble textures of supposedly buildings you’ve brought crashing down, a sad sight indeed.

It’s only hope is it may gain a small devoted audience but will never reach the masses.

  • Thanks for posting the video. I am a long time Twisted Metal fan that has spent hundreds of hours playing against my friends. Twisted Metal was the first multi-player game I experienced back in the old days. No multi-player even came close to the fun of this game. The variety of weapons and original characters were great and hilarious.

I have one comment/question that wasn’t answered on the video. Superb Graphics and high frame-rate are very important to me in my gaming experience for mulit-player and single player. Now with the power of the PS3, I am hoping you can use a gaming engine that can utilize the cell processor to its true potential.

Most importantly, PLEASE MAKE TWISTED METAL IN 3D!!!

  • Here’s a question for you: will we have pedestrians again? I need to run over some people!

  • Here are my questions for twisted metal.

    1) Will there be a collectors edition of some kind?

    2) Will there be a hard drive install?

    3) Will there be patches after the game is released?

    4) Will there be add on content after the game is released?

  • You think you can get some PS Move Support?
The idea of driving and trying to aim with the ps move controller just makes me think of the difficulty… I would truly feel as skilled as jet-pack sniper fights.

  • Thanks David for keeping us fans well updated on Twisted Metal, I think your the only Developer who goes out of his way to do that. I’m a Gaming Dad who played the previous Twisted Metal games and I can’t wait to be able to play this version with my son. Keep up the hard work us loyal fans appreciate it.

  • Back on PS One Twisted Metal never really appealed to me. Evil clowns had been done before and car combat seemed kind of lame, and it felt like Sony was just pushing out a new Twisted Metal every year.

But when I saw my friend play the credits to TM: Black and “Paint it Black” played, I immediately got hooked. I still have a drawing I did of him back when the game came out: http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/281/c/f/sweet_tooth_by_elberto333-d30bjmd.jpg.

Sure evil clowns have been done before, but let’s face it boys and girls…No clown delivers like Sweet Tooth.

  • Haven’t ever played a twisted metal games, but people like Jaffe and the fact that twisted metal was such a successful title makes me want to pick this up, I’m definitely looking forward to this and glad it’s aiming for a teen rating…

  • I really think there should a level inspried by GoW, or if not inspirsed by the dark caves in GoW3 after beheading Helios. I jsut think there will be a lot of anxiety when you can’t see anything and the headlights are all you have. iono, just wanted to throw that out.

  • Me and my friend keith love twisted metal, a few months ago we really wanted to play all the twisted metals so we went on eBay bought everyone up until the PS2(PS3 doesnt play PS2…..for now), but we put those games in and had a blast, I had a bunch of new games for the PS3 to play, but we just kept playing twisted metal 2 over and over still so fun after all these years, plus the soundtracks were always awesome!!!

  • Lets see some twisted metal Soccer!
demolition derbies do it, why not twisted metal.
    would be so rad!
pushing a huge ball around trying to get it into goals on the map, it would totally be like a bigger crazier version of calling all cars! YES!

  • what about a guy on a unicycle juggiling molotovs

  • Will the Australian release be censored/toned down to comply with the Aus Classification Board? If so, are there any plans or the possibility that there could be a patch or DLC (which is not rated) to re-implement the missing content?

The European release of TM Black was a great disappointment of a game, since all the ‘most interesting’ content (including ALL of the end game videos) was completely removed.

  • FINALLY A NEW TWISTED METAL THEY SHOULD HAVE ALL OLD AND NEW CHARACTERS ALIKE GOOD MAPS,GAME MODES AND ALOT OF SHOOTING LOL

  • I have been a fan of the series since I was in highschool. I fond memories of staying up late playing my favorite game in the series Twisted Metal Black. Loved that game, characters, and music.

I was wondering about the soundtrack of the game. What type of soundtrack will it include? How hard is the soundtrack going to rock?

Do you have any ideas of what type of DLC you want to give the fans?

Please give us a collectors edition.

  • As a kid I remember growing up playing twisted metal 2 as much as I could. It was my older brother’s copy so he would kick me off sometimes so he could play it or sometimes I would challenge him to a round so I could play longer. One day my younger brother(about 4 or 5 at the time) broke the disk. I was in tears because of this cause I loved it so much so for days I begged my bro to get a new one for me and he did. I still have the same copy with copies of TM3, TM4, & TM Head On as well. My TM: Black copy is scratched up sadly and I still need to find a copy of TM Small Brawl and TM1 to complete the console game collection. Twisted Metal has been and always will be my favorite series and I cannot wait for the new TM to play and relive memories of playing all day and night!

  • LOVE Twisted Metal!!! Add metal-eating ZOMBIES that fart RPGs and shoot 50 ft. flames outta their ass, and I’ll love it even MORE!!!

  • Is Neogaf where programmers like you exchange all the code?

  • Also, do you share code with other Playstation developers? Cos you look like one of the smarter people, and I’d like it if you could champion cross-game-chat.

  • Twisted metal small brawl is one of my favorite games, i love that game so much, if you could ever, make even the smallest homage to it, DLC, Cheat codes to make the characters and vehicles Small Brawl Style, or even one recreated map, it would make thousands of Twisted Fans happy, That game is great, New maps in the Small Brawl style and Character Story’s in that style would the next best thing since exploding bread

  • Will there be a Collectors Edition? First day buy for me. Cannot wait

  • I really did believe you when you said you weren’t working on a new Twisted Metal before, and I’m VERY glad you lied to us. :D I’ve been patiently waiting for a new TM and I was a little worried that they might put it into someone else’s hands, but I am glad that you and your team are making what I’m sure will be the best Twisted Metal to date. Also, I’m really excited about the online co-op, because my best friend and I used to tape cardboard to our tv to separate the split-screen. Now we don’t have to!

David, I know a lot of people give you credit, and I most certainly do as well, but please do me a favor and tell Scott and the rest of your team that I appreciate so much what EVERYONE does to help make these games. I just wanted you and your team to know that from a HUGE twisted metal fan, all of the hard work you guys put into the game will make me and a lot of people very happy.

  • What are you going to do to support PlayStation Rewards? I assume TM will release after the rewards program comes out for all.

  • Dear Jaff’n’Co:

About the T rating we’re going to see on the new Twisted Metal game -debates that take place on forums circle around the notion that cutscenes are what garner the M rating. I believe it and it matters none to me.

Some classic fans of the series may be disappointed about this direction, I’m a fan enough to not be phased.

Part of me is bummed that we live in a culture which creates “sacrificed” ideas when making a piece of performance art all-encompassing and inviting to the majority. Interactive or not.

Maybe videos via PSN, rated M, can help snuff this spark before it is truly stoked (which I far from hope for because I want this series to succeed with this game and every other one after:)

P.S.: Jaff’: you were seriously envious of the God of War 3 Slurpee cups (and custom Kratos Fury slurpee flavor! WTF?FTW!!!)(re: GameDirector roundtable PSN video- awesome BTW!)

P L E A S E make this happen with the new TWIST3D M3TAL! Break arms, ruin lives, prostitute yourself- do whatever YOU MUST:

I wanna taste Sweet Tooth’s Slushy Sauce! Sucking it through a lenticular Sweet Tooth cup (and other characters as well)!

Thanks to you and your group of hardworking b@stards!

    – John

  • I know that’s a a little bit of a cliche for TM but whatever
I WANNA BLOW UP THE EIFLE TOWER IN HD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey David! I love TM since its PS1 days. Every Christmas I played it with my buddy and whoever won got all the gift cards in the others stockings. I loved it because I had a defective controller where it would occasionally have input lag. We still take out the old beast every Christmas. What other way to celebrate Jesus by gambling, right?

On the European thing I have a suggestion. My cousin lived in Quebec an the UK, but he had little to no problems with the content in the game. It appealed to him no matter what. One thing he did not like was the selection of vehicles. He said Europeans love their cars and really like having their own brands. I don’t know if you could use this info, but hey, maybe it will.

As an all time fan, I highly recommend you try to add features that everyone loves. Split-screen everywhere is amazing because those are some of my best memories (and judging by the comments, others feel the same way). I like this blog post because you just sold me on the game with split-screen online and online co-op.

Side Note: I won the gift cards again this Christmas!

  • Twisted Metal BLACK was the first console game I ever played online. And so I have to thank the TM team!!! Not to mention the one player game was BADA$$ as well :) BEAUTIFUL LEVEL+CHARACTER DESIGN. And controlled like a dream. It really was one of my fav games on the PS2, played through all of the different character’s story modes. Anyway, getting the TM: Black Online disk voucher with my PS2 Network Adaptor is what led me to playing more games ONLINE.. getting into socom and many other games, and meeting many PEOPLE. It’s funny seeing how old that game was, and yet the online infrastructure was better than most online games TODAY :) Shows you how far good development can go.

  • Sorry but I can’t cut down this message to less than 1250 words lol..

So to continue.. what makes TM awesome? Vehicles+Weapons… and using vehicles AS weapons against your FRIENDS! What young man could resist that??? NOT ME!! :P Slamming my brother around and taunting each other while having intense split-screen matches is one of my best gaming memories…. SO…. THANK YOU DAVID JAFFE AND THE REST OF THE TWISTED TEAM FOR NOT FORGETTING SPLIT SCREEN THESE DAYS. :) Some of us still have friends that want to play with us in the SAME HOUSE!!! It’s all about the community and F U N above all, you are one of the few devs that seem to know that. Can’t wait for TM to get a true online experience, I knew you guys would make one for the PS3.. no surprise to me..but good try at E3 ;P Merry Xmas

  • First thing first, I would like to thank all the team working hard on T.M. For PS3! Your dedication over the years may have been reconise by gamers but each games seem to push the experience further.

Personnally Im new to the serie but been around long enought (20+ years) and every time a T.M. game was released i saw the hype rise up around me about this game and the cool mode and weapons that game could offer

i became tester for a year or so, and been a hardcore gamer all my life, and Im sure this game gonna rise as high has the stars in it’s genre because of it’s unique kind of bad-@#$ action

You have a shot at the stars, with this title make every steps a journey so that at the end this game gonna be refer has an awesome adventure.
