80 3

Starting yesterday, game journalists began posting their final reviews of LittleBigPlanet 2. So far, the reactions have been fantastic! Gaming web sites have given LBP2 extremely high marks and flattering compliments, including IGN (9/10, Editor’s Choice), Game Informer (9.5/10), 1UP (A-), GamePro (5/5), Joystiq (5/5), WIRED Geek Dad (no score, just plenty of praise), and MTV Multiplayer (ditto)—just to name a few!

With so much excitement swirling around LittleBigPlanet 2’s January 18th release exclusively on the PS3, we also wanted to share a new trailer highlighting the many adventures Sackboy will face. Check it out above!

And here are a few choice quotes to give you a sense of what the gaming press is saying about Media Molecule’s latest game.

“With this sequel, Media Molecule gives players a bottomless toybox, and I can’t remember the last time a game had such a relentless grip on my imagination.”Game Informer

“There were moments where I was giddy over how fun it was, so the fact that you have complete access to these newfound creation abilities is impressive to say the least.”IGN

“LBP2 has improved its creation tools in just about every way. Now it’s possible not only to create objects and backgrounds but to make entirely new control schemes.”1UP

“There’s just no good reason whatsoever not to dive in and explore the many wild worlds of LittleBigPlanet 2.”GamePro

“The original LittleBigPlanet was a thing of genius. From beginning to end, the game continually impressed, and yet, somehow, LittleBigPlanet 2 manages to improve upon it.”MTV Multiplayer

  • only a couple more weeks!!

  • not to mention 9s from both Eurogamer and EDGE! Most impressive! Congrats SCE & Mm! Great way to kick off your 2011 PS3 onslaught.

  • Let’s not be too hasty…

We need to wait for more hardcore Halo fanboys in the gaming media to give their definitive verdict on this latest PS3 exclusive…

  • I must be a freak. I don’t really like LBP, I tried the LBP1 and 2 demos and it just doesn’t charm me. I know this is a waaaaaay minority opinion or am I just immune to the hype?

  • I don’t need reviews to buy this game.. I’ve placed my preorder since media molecule announced the limited edition :D can’t wait!!!!

  • Congrats MM, I can’t wait to pick it up on the 18th.

  • The wait. She is killing me. And I have to wait longer for my collector’s edition from Amazon! Curses!

  • i pre ordered before it got delayed. it sucked. but then i saw this and said…. its worth the wait.

  • Correction for post 3 – I didn’t try the LBP1 demo, I rented 1. Could never get into it. The 2 demo didn’t change my mind.

  • Simply amazing! Can’t wait.

  • Anybody else notice the District 9-esque robot at 00:18? Day 1 purchase.

  • amazing!

  • Yep, It’s no surprise I have my collectors edition on reserve.

  • I hope my bookends are of high quality! Thats the only reason I sprung up the extra $20.

  • Day #1 Buy!

  • All we need now is the Kevin Butler ad.

    Great work guys at MM!

  • I think this question hasn’t been officially addressed yet:
Will the Collector’s Edition be released in Canada?

  • I LOVED the first LBP and I’ve already pre-ordered the second one. However, and I know I’m in the minority here, I didn’t like creating things. I liked playing thru the innovative, fun and genius levels made by MM. I hope that they didn’t spend all their time on expanding the creation abilities, and that they put some time into a new adventure too!

  • I cannot wait for this awesome sequel! At the moment, I’m trying to hurry and finish my current game in time for LBP 2’s release!

  • No surprise here. Pre-ordered this game when it was first available.

  • @slicecom , actually sir you’re right, but i myself are like you. I enjoy the many adventurous levels, races, and whatever else was there to play, over creating levels. I do like to make them but i never have the time to make ti so i can have that finished feeling with the level.
Now even if they didn’t add much as to the adventure mode, they did add much to the creator tools, meaning there will be thousands of awesome community levels available. I myself like the community levels over the disc ones.
So in the end, we all win.

  • The great scores are to be expected, I knew from the moment I saw what people were creating in the beta that this game was gonna be great and better than the first. I am wondering however, how some sites gave it a lower score than the first if it improves upon the first in just about every way. Regardless though, I know its gonna be better than the first and I can’t wait to get my CE of the game :D

  • Congrats guys, well deserved, I’ll be picking up my collector’s edition soon!!! 8)

  • Can’t wait to get all those costumes with my CE!

  • Awesome news! I guess I’ll make the sequel to my popular Zombie Infesation level on LBP2 then. Out of all the pre-order DLC I like the Ratchet costume the most.

  • Yep game of the year contender yet again… even the xbots at Ign that claimed Fortza was better than GT5 And The PS3 had no fps squeaked out a 9.0 for this game…

  • already have this pre-ordered. Really cant wait to play it.

  • Another award for Media Molecule and Sony for such an awesome franchise!

  • LittleBigPlanet is equivalent to over 9000 PS3 exclusives in one…

  • Yay only a bit more till I get the awsome collectors edition. Game looks awsome good work

  • Hopefully Sony will actually market this game so it gets the love it deserves.

  • 2011 Game of the year already?? Geez guys give the competition a chance.

  • playstation blog countdown ?

  • i have a question…who can i contact about the subway frenzy contest? i won little big planet 2 from the contest and i havent received my copy….

  • sssssssuuuuuiiit!!

  • I already got this on pre-order. I can’t wait. Demo is awesome!

  • Edge also gave it a 9/10 and they’re usually pretty harsh (except on yuro games).

  • This looks like a big ol’ bottle o’ fresh, homemade, Awesome-sauce. Can’t for my CE!!!

  • you probably wont answer this but is there still time to order the collectors edition? and if so whens the due date?

  • I will buy BBP2 on the launch day, too bad that the price of ps3 games is too high where i live (Argentina/South America)

  • YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
2 Weeks away from release baby! I got the strategy guide aswell. I’m gonna be posting walkthroughs

  • Congrats on all of your success guys. I really hope I can work with you in the next few years. Cheers to hopeful Game Of 2011 :D

  • BTW, now would be a good time to talk about Move control with LBP 2 via the update you guys had mentioned… that and any 3D plans..

  • this is awesome im definitely getting this

  • LittleBigPlanet 2 Collector’s Edition is going to be SWEET! I can’t wait for my order to arrive. The awesome bookends, all the great downloadable skins. The chance to explore a new story and enjoy the massive world that is LittleBigPlanet 2.

This game feels like it’s going to create an awesome frenzy.

  • preordered the collector’s edition back in october. This is my favourite game this generation! Now if only ps3 supported mkv videos without conversion; then i’d ps3 over pc *hint hint*!

  • i’m going to hold my breath till it arrives at my door. huh nnnnnnnnn *pop*

  • wow…RE: quite a lot of people actually.

Having been in the beta for months, what Story levels I have played ALREADY blow the first game’s story levels out of the water completely…gameplay, diversity, versatility..everything is improved.

And one thing that people forget is you DON’T have to be creative to take advantage of the brilliant levels the community makes. if you’re having a hard time finding great levels, just go online to check out the million “recommended levels” you can find all over the net. with the inclusion of the LBP.me integration, you’ll be able to queue up levels over the net and have them ready to go as soon as you start up the game.

Lastly, to the people who just “don’t get it” or don’t buy into the “hype”…LBP2 is without a doubt the most innovative and unique gaming experience of all time. I do not say that lightly.

platformer, old school arcade classic, top down racer, RTS, FPS, RPG, flight sim, cinematic short film with voice overs, six-axis controlled ethereal dreamscape (lol)…nothing is impossible with this.

Dudes…someone recreated Wolfenstein. you wouldn’t know it was LBP until Sackboy pops out on the scoreboard at the end.

  • I want to see the Kevin Butler commercial! :D

  • O.O…omg me too.
