Killzone 3: Behind The Scenes

71 8

Spanning more than 70 minutes of cutscene footage, the Killzone 3 single player campaign boasts a breathtaking storyline brought to life by some of Hollywood’s finest talents. In this sneak peek at the Killzone 3: Behind The Scenes featurette, which is part of the Killzone 3 Helghast Edition extras, Guerrilla reveals how real-life actors were transformed into virtual characters.

Using state-of-the-art motion capture techniques, the actors’ performances were captured using reflective tracking markers worn on the face and body. Many of the props and characters they were acting off only existed inside the computer, however.

Actor Ray Winstone (Admiral Orlock), who cut his teeth on full-body performance capture in the 2007 movie adaptation of Beowulf, was undaunted by that prospect. ”It’s like going back to school in a way,” he said. “You play the scene, and you start to get your imagination back, you know?”

Co-star Malcolm McDowell (Chairman Stahl), whose video game appearances stretch back to the early nineties, was quite satisfied with the technology. “When I’m 85, I can be doing video games, because they can put a young man’s face over mine,” he joked. “And as long as I don’t do a gravelly voice, I’ll be alright!”

The full Behind The Scenes featurette is an exclusive part of the Killzone 3 Helghast Edition extras. Pre-order your copy today!

  • Guerrilla i will forever suck yo d***. this game is so freaking awesome. i still play kz2 and now kz3 will never leave my ps3

  • @48 – It’s already been stated that no it will not have online co-op. It’s not something they are going to go around and proudly proclaim, since obviously it’s something a lot of fans are wanting. The game has gone gold which means that it is final, so they can’t add anything. At the very best, perhaps they can eventually make an update that will allow online co-op but I doubt that.

  • I hope you guys know just how pi$$ed off people are going to be when they start finding out you wasted time with 3D and Move and offline Splitscreen but couldn’t find time to add Online Co-op. I love online multiplayer but it’s nice to have the chance to play online through the story with a friend.

Sorry to say but I hope this takes away your shot at game of the year or best FPS, you clearly didn’t listen to fans when we asked for it in KZ2 and now KZ3.

  • KILLZONE is such a huge franchise for Sony now unlike the first one, which means a lot of people missed it. Can you guys please please please HDize KILLZONE 1 for PSN!!! feb 22, ok back to sleep…24 more days of sleeping to go.

  • That was really cool!

  • I can’t wait to dig in to my Helghast edition!!! 8)

  • Eww! Guerrilla pierced their faces.

  • This game with 3D and the Move Sharp Shoot too EPIC

  • Man, I need that Helghast Edition. I absolutley love Behind the Scenes movies as it really gives interesting insight on the development.

I recently replayed Killzone, Liberation, and 2 to prepare myself for this game. This looks like one of the best FPS’ of all time! Great job GG!

  • Killzone 2, and 3 will be the few games I acutally try to get all the trophies for ;). They are so amazing, and epic! :D

  • I think I will finally bite the “FPS bullet”. Literally. No FPS has got my attention as this one, and that goes for Killzone 2 as well. Killzone 2 didn’t do it for me, because I’ve never been into FPS online multiplayer, and I got to say the single player campaign in KZ2 as solid as it was it wasn’t enough for me. But this game looks so huge and amazing, and then it’s got MOVE and 3D, and splitscreen co-op… I can picture myself playing for more than a single 10-hour play-through and then some.

I can’t think of a better FPS experience, so if I’m ever going to REALLY embrace a FPS game I think this is finally it.

  • Nope. Not gonna watch it. I don’t want ANY spoilers at all.

  • I hope Sony has a HUGE advertising campaign to promote this game. They didn’t do such a good job for Killzone 2. I cannot wait for this game. I must say, Guerrilla, you are an amazing studio, and it is so awesome that you listen to your fans. I hope this game delivers you the success you deserve.

  • Guerrilla = kick ***

Keep up the awesome work! Kz3 looks epic! Sadly I won’t have the money to buy the Helghast edition, I hope to pick up the game at some point soon though!

  • Over 70 minutes of cutscenes? That’s a lot for a fps game. I can’t wait, I love games with long cutscenes. That’s the reason I love both the MGS and FF series.

  • I am so hyped for this game the waiting is starting to kill me

  • If this game ask for a serial key then I won’t buy it. This game looks excellent.

  • One hope I still hold since Killzone 2 was to be able to see Helghast civilians. I always wondered what a Helghast woman looks like…now that I see more Helghast having hair, it is likely the women will have hair too, albeit gray or white. Guerrilla, if you ever introduce a powerful woman in the Helghast command, might I recommend hunting down Helen Mirren for the role? She’d fit in with the stellar talent you’ve managed to recruit in the past.

  • this is gonna be the game of the year

  • Killzone 2 was the first game i’ve ever bought on the lunch day..and I was really happpy that i did.
Killzone 3 will be the 2nd game that i’ll buy on the lunch day…
    buhahahh can’t wait!!!
    thank you sony and gureilla..

  • I’m so pumped for this game. I was watching a vlog on gametrailers.com when I saw a level being played. I said to my friends, “Man, this looks great. I hope they have maps like this in multiplayer”, and then I noticed IT WAS MULTIPLAYER.

I’ve been evangelizing the open beta to my friends and even guys who don’t normally play FPS’s are getting this game with me on launch day!

Now, I just need to figure out how to get a copy of the Limited Halgahst Edition, or that KZ3 PS3 I saw on youtube.

Hey Sony, send a little love my way! :D
