Plants vs Zombies hits PSN Today With All The Trimmings

Hi again! It’s me, Jeff from PopCap. You might remember me from such blog posts as the one I wrote on January 28th in this very space, announcing that Plants Vs Zombies was coming to the PlayStation Network! If you missed that announcement, don’t worry, since I just said it again in that last sentence. So now you’re totally caught up with everyone else and don’t have to feel all left out and ornery! Yay!

So now that we’re all caught up, I have even better news for you today: Plants Vs. Zombies is available NOW (read: soon!) on PSN for a measly $14.99. In a short time, you can close this window this second and start pummeling those infernal, annoying, and dentally-challenged zombies with your loyal, brave army of peashooters and cabbage-pults and gloom shrooms right from the comfort of your very own PlayStation!

Plants vs Zombies for PS3 (PSN)

I know you want details, rather than more of my dribble, so here’s what I can tell you. Plants Vs Zombies has:

  • 50 Adventure levels. The complete, original game.
  • Five modes. Adventure, Puzzle, Mini-Games, Survival, and everyone’s favorite, the bliss-inducing Zen Garden.
  • Co-op and Versus Play. Team up with a friend or challenge them by each choosing a side—plants or zombies.
  • 21 mini-games. Fight the fun-dead in minigames like Zombatany, Wall-nut Bowling and Heavy Weapon.
  • Interactive leaderboard. Upgrade to bigger & better houses as you progress and stroll through the leaderboard neighborhood to see your friends’ digs.
  • 12 Trophies. Earn awesome ornaments to decorate your lawn.

And that’s really all I know. I’ll be happy to stick around to answer questions. Just try to keep it relatively civil because my therapist says I need to avoid hostile situations ever since I punched that stupid old lady next to me on the plane because she wouldn’t give me the armrest.

Oh yeah, and enjoy the game!

  • I got it on PC just a month ago, so no thanks. you get the money anyway so the only person who looses here is Sony.

  • love the “(While secretly counting my money and browsing for a new Lamborghini.)” I was gonna post a nasty message about the store not being updated till i read that

  • @145 What? Sources please.

  • Does it have the popcorn mode too jeff

  • Jeff Green, better than God and twice as handsome. u sir, are the best thing to happen to the PlayStation Blog. I have never had so many chuckles in one sitting.

also, I love how u keep treating fools left and right, and yur doing it on the downlow so they don’t notice. lol.

u should frequent the PS Forums under a different alias, so u can put trolls in their place.

    • Notice that “jgrizzle” is suspiciously close to “Jeff Green.”

I should probably choose my aliases better!

  • jgrizzle358, your nose is brown. Seriously.

  • Holy wait Batman. I haven’t been this excited for a PSN release since Castle Crashers, and Sony just happens to take their sweet time today. I will definitely be picking this up as soon as I can, mark my words on that one Jeff.

  • Jeff Green do you play for the Oklahoma City Thunder? That guy is legit. Anyways I enjoy your replies to all these cry babies. I guess you can’t please everyone. Although like you I had a girlfriend that liked to please everyone. What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.

  • I am taking a guess the store is gonna be late at updating today or at least delayed.

  • It’s up for anyone interested in the game just put “plants” in the search function.

  • where is the uuuuuuuuuuuuppppppppddddaaaaattttteeee? i want to play stackings

  • @155 What about this guy?

  • @159

Use the search function, Stacking is up too just not free for PS+ yet.

  • You guys are ridiculous for complaining about the price. I bet all of you have paid 4 times as much for not 4 times the content. I spent a year playing the PC version, it has legs. Even if you only beat everything once and drop it, $15 is a great price. Quit your whining, it blows my mind how you can justify $15 being pricey for a great game, get over it.

  • @ Jeff- about my previous comment

Ahh didn’t know about the co-op play on here. That would make the game a bit more fun, at least give it some re-playability, with introducing friends to it. The game itself IS worth 15 dollars, I wasn’t denying that, my whole issue was simply, what would this version offer over the cheaper Steam version.

Co-op play does seem worth it though, as I do prefer playing with friends nearby.

  • @162 ethostar

The problem is that most of us have bought the game 2-3 times over already. There’s not much value at $15 for this game when we can find it cheaper on the iPhone/PC. Let alone it’s clear PopCap has a clear value set for the game if it wasn’t being sold on the Xbox 360 as a retail disc with 2 other PopCap games for $19.99. Why would anyone buy the PSN version at $15?

  • HBtaj2000 is the greatest thing to happen to this blog today!!! OH-EMM-GEE!!! Wait.. who’s turn is it to get brown-nosed now? Dang it!!! OHhhh I know.. Grace Chen! Grace you’re awwweesome!!!! Give me a free avatar!!

  • The ones who aren’t complaining are the ones who don’t have to ask their parents for their credit card information. Keep that in mind. Still, it’s a high price. hahahaha

  • I love how “I don’t want this game” = “Anyone who every buys this game is a total moron”

  • Stacking is available for download and it is free for Playstation Plus customers. 1 Gig file size…

  • @supertiso – Fair. And I guess I *ahem* obtained the PC version at no price, so me paying for the PSN version is me giving them the money I think they deserve because I played the crap out of it.

I guess I’m just frustrated with the sentiment in general. Costume Quest, both DeathSpank games, and Braid were all worth $15, easy.

  • Personally i love the ios version of plants vs. zombies but 14. 99 on the ps3 is a little overboard for me. Oh and i would absolutly buy this if it was even 5 dollars less and on the psp too. Because in my opinion i think plants vs. zombies is a too small game to be played on a console. Thx for reading.

  • Maybe they’re delaying the update on purpose to create demand. Bastards.

  • @168 do you know what that means is that the update is very near

  • yo whut up whit the ps store update i had to search to find everything and i dont got stacking on my ps plus

  • Reason why store late EA having promo out right now with hour and 20 mins left for NHL 11 lol that’s why or to packs are sold out which ever comes first so blame EA on promos in NHL 11 :D.

  • as usual sony sucks at updating the ps store. they are the most non pro-active people on the industry, except when they got some security issue with the ps3…

  • This game is worth $15, but as far as the movie price analogy, I paid $15 to see Watchmen and Avatar years ago but I wouldn’t pay it again today in a theater. I think it had to come out at $15 though. I’ll get it when it’s $7.49 in a couple of months (see Hoard). A demo may have gotten me excited for it though, or the controls may have turned me off completely, tough call. And yes, needs Move. Popcap should call Ronimo (Swords and Soldiers) if they need help from another small independent company (much smaller than Popcap I’ld wager). Great game and looking forward to playing it again at some point. Read online zombies crush plants in 2 player, no defense for spamming cheap zombies.

PS – I have $15 and change in my account so w/ NY tax can’t purchase now anyway.

  • Yes, Stacking is up. Just use the search option. There’s a demo, too.

  • You guys keep saying stuff is hitting PSN today and I don’t know what time zone you live in but in mine there is just over two hours left of ‘today’ and I haven’t seen a thing. Yet XBL was updated before I went to work today. Bad business if you ask me.

  • @zekececil14 I believe so because he definitely was replying quite late in to the night Not sure how I was supposed to tell how many phones he used though lol

  • store is updated but for now only if you search

  • It is 9 50 in Ohio. Still not the late record. Im sad though because my account is like $1-$2 away from $15.93. (the price of PvZ after tax) So, im not spending $20 just because I need a little.

  • DoombringerZero…you are a genius!

  • @119 SUPERGAMER24
Lol, he said so in the replies. The thread link is on comment # 162. (remove the two Xs)

  • I want my pink knight, update the store already. I have money to give away and you don’t want it?

  • Its near 9:00 in Texas, but for this update its worth it. Lots of great content today so I guess thats for the late update. But better late then never.

  • the ps+ was updated but they took it back down

u can also download quore if you are an annual subscriber in the download list or search for it

  • and now it is back up

  • Just found Plants Vs. Zombies using the search option.
    Bought!

  • PSN STORE IS UPDATE!! NO KIDDING!

  • Does Sony wait until evening and use a 56k modem to upload the store? Any given week?

  • UPDATED!!! HE’S RIGHT!!!!

  • Only thing that doesn’t appear to be up is the Killzone 3 campaign demo for Plus users. That’s meant to be today, right?

  • Bah, there’s no demo. Now I’ll never know.

  • I blame zombies!

That, or they are all laughing at our comments, and playing PvZ for themselves. 0_0

  • boy if sony of america supports the NPG like they do the PSP then this will be another Go.

  • I can’t decide, I got the game for 360 for Christmas… but I’m not a gold member, so if I want to play it online, I need this version. Argh, the decisions!

And for those wondering, the game is amazingly good, and in all likelihood, it’s good enough that I’ll buy it again even though I already own it. ><

  • Does anyone see the KZ3 SP demo?
