Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta update, new chance to win a Limited Helghast Edition for US and Canada

134 0

Killzone fans! It’s less than a week since the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Beta hit PlayStation Store, but already you’ve racked up some impressive numbers. There’s been a staggering 62 million – million! – kills, of which around 10% have been Brutal Melee kills. Some 400,000 games have been blitzed through, with well over half a million players appearing on the Killzone 3 leaderboards. And two of those players have stormed through the one million XP barrier already.

Killzone 3 multiplayer

Your dedication to the cause hasn’t gone unnoticed over at developer Guerrilla Games. Far from it: the team has been working around the clock to analyze and act upon your feedback. Below you’ll find a round-up of issues discovered thanks to your hard work, and the solutions Guerrilla is working on to refine your experience.

High level issues discovered:

  • Connection problems
  • High load caused the database to fall over
  • Score posting
  • Flickering screens
  • Ribbon stats not updating
  • Vulgarity filter

Solutions underway:

  • Guerrilla has already released a patch. At the time of writing this has gone live in the US and the EU. The other territories will follow shortly. We have no ETA on that.
  • Guerrilla has made improvements for the server connection issues. The server was brought down and back up for that on Monday, February 7th.
  • The problems with the vulgarity filter should be fixed now.
  • Guerrilla will continue to update the servers and patch the Beta if needed. We’re watching your feedback closely on Killzone.com.
  • Score posting issues have been resolved.
  • Ribbon stats updating issue has been resolved, known issue is that 1 ribbon (the faster reload ribbon) does not update yet.

From Guerrilla Games: “We are happy that we are encountering these issues now, during a Beta, instead of after launch. This will help us get ready for the huge amount of people that are expected to go online for Killzone 3’s launch.

This Beta also gives us the opportunity to change Killzone 3 based on feedback that we get. Although we’ve already gone gold, we can and will make server-side adjustments to things like weapon damage, balancing issues, and more. So this is not a demo, it is meant to be a Beta — a way for us to test the game.

Thanks for your continued patience and help in getting this tested properly.”

Last week, we held a sweepstakes to give away 60 Killzone 3 Limited Helghast Editions (not sold in stores) to players who participate in the Multiplayer Open Beta. We had such a great response that we are running the sweepstakes again! Members of the Killzone 3 team will log on to the Multiplayer Open Beta throughout the sweepstakes and randomly select players in matches. We will not select players more than once during the sweepstakes, and we will notify the winners via the email address associated with their PSN account.

So, log on and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta from Friday, February 11th through Sunday, February 13th. We will be randomly selecting 20 participants each day who are playing in the Open Beta and notify winners via the email address associated with each entrant’s PSN account between February 17th, 2011 and February 25th, 2011.

Check out the full rules below.

And for all of our Canadian residents reading the PlayStation.Blog and wondering where their contest is, don’t worry! Our Canadian colleagues are holding a contest as well! From Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13, five Canadian participants playing in the Killzone 3 open beta will be randomly selected each day. All potential winners will be notified through their email address associated with their PSN account. Please note that you must be over the age of 18 to participate and the contest is not open to residents of Quebec. Click here for full rules.

Log on and good luck this weekend!

  • Nice update

  • Thanks you GG Love your support and taking your time to read our feedback on blogs/forum hoping to play some multiplayer open beta this weekend in hopes to win one! chances are pretty slim but still thanks for doing this!

  • very nice. i like

  • This is really great! I had no idea that you were even going to update the beta at all! A welcome surprise! Thanks Guerrilla Games!!

  • I need that limited edition…

  • Loving the game, along with single player demo just released, very happy to see the bugs being ironed out pre-launch. Keep up the good work Gureilla!

  • I have been looking for details, but what is the difference between the standard Helgast Edition and the Limited?

    • The Limited Helghast Edition contains all the same elements as the retail version of the Helghast Edition, but features a Helghast Helmet replica with illuminated LED eyes, simulating Helghasts’ glowing mask.

  • this beta is very addicting, even if its just using us as tools to get the multiplayer aspect of the game right. lol at Destructoid for calling this a fake beta. just because the game gone gold doesnt mean they can fix it through patching.

  • hey please show us more pictures of the limited edition :P

  • Gotta love the companies that actually take the time to read the players comments and concerns. It really shows that the company cares. THANKS GG!

  • Loving this game. Keep up the good work GG. My only complaint is the loud annoying death groans. Please take them out or lower the volume on them.

  • I really wish I could get my friends off the COD train and get them on board with Killzone. The game is so much fun and more people need to take their heads out of their rear ends and realize that.
Can’t wait to play through the single player with PS MOVE!

  • Hopefully I’ll be able to connect to a game this weekend. Tried last weekend and couldn’t get connected. :(

  • Thx for staying on top of this, and giving those of us that couldn’t get on last weekend a second chance at winning those packs. You guys rox!

  • Thank you… the connection problems were very frustrating. The closed beta never had that issue.

  • I’m getting really tired of these collector’s editions that aren’t being offered in stores. I understand they are used as bait/rewards for the contests, but I’m still getting tired of this. I would have gladly paid the extra money for The Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition, but that certainly wasn’t possible since it wasn’t available to purchase in stores. This new edition really makes me irate.

“features a Helghast Helmet replica with illuminated LED eyes”

I realize that there are a lot of extras being thrown in the Helghast Edition, but come on! For the $130 that the Helghast Edition is retailing for, the illuminated LED eyes should have come standard! I’m still getting the Helghast Edition and I’m still very excited for Killzone 3, but I’m just tired of these secret collector’s editions that Sony has seemingly decided to make a part of their marketing strategy. Any collector’s edition of the game should be made available to the public for purchase, or at least that’s what I feel. Would three different versions of Killzone 3 (standard, Helghast, Limited Helghast) really be that tough to manage?

  • Thanks for making this contest available in Canada too !

  • The beta is blowing my mind away! its so much fun i loved the first 2 but this is what GG wanted to make right here and its amazing; I know when the game launches it will be fantastic and can’t wait to get my platinum trophy for this game!

  • Can we please bring back spawn grenades? It’s so incredibly easy to spawnkill with the zones, even more so than with grenades. And the spawn grenades allowed for some pretty awesome tactics that the current scheme can’t provide.

  • Wow no love for Canada.
They should update with a new map too so we can test out how the jetpacks and heavy weapons will stand up against the servers.

  • nice…can’t wait for the full game….wish they had put Mechs or jetpacks in this Beta but its cool…

  • i love this game but was only able to play it 3 times last weekend because i could not log in.i hope the log in problem is fixed this weekend.i would love to try to win.i own the first one and even look like the helghast on lost planet 2.

  • YES! Couldn’t get MP to work but Botzone was fun so I stuck with that. Had no chance of winning the Helghast Special Edition at all because of issues, but I was glad since it was a beta and the error could be fixed.

In most games, second chances annoy me. This one? NOT AT ALL!

  • I’ve been Playing the beta soo much! the Move controls work really well, and just feel like a perfect fit. I am glad this contest is open to Canada too :D can’t wait to play this weekend~

  • My only real complaint is about when I can apply the upgrades. From what I understand you can do it from the main menu and while in a game, but why can’t I make changes during the intermission between a match? I don’t want to feel like I have to make a quick decision so that I don’t miss too much of the actual match or have to back all the way out to the main menu.

  • Amongst the issues posted above, I’ve experienced a problem where when I level up I don’t receive unlock points. Once it warned me that I wouldn’t receive the points and other times it didn’t. Hopefully that’ll be fixed before the official release.

  • This is GREAT! Talk about hard at work. You guys rock!!! Once the bugs get ironed out, then I can really go ape $#1t in the game. :D

  • Thanks for the update, GG! Now I can actually play the game. And the Vulgarity Filter? Is this for players who are being immature on their mics or what? Anyway, thanks for that too! :D

  • Wow someone already pass the 1 million xp mark. Some people have no lives. Anyway great job on the beta. It really fun. Im definitely buying killzone 3

  • based on the beta alone i think GG has crafted something very special here in killzone 3. loving the mp so far! can’t wait for the campaign. me and my loved ones will really enjoy the split screen!!! thanks guys. day 1 buy

  • It’s only febuary and already I’m overwhelmed by PS3 games. I still have tons to do in LittleBigPlanet 2 but I can’t seem to pull myself away from this KZ3 beta. I’ve logged 18 hours in and I’m level 24 with over 1000 kills. I can’t wait for the full game.

  • Thanks for having a Canadian contest! I really appreciate it and I can’t wait to get KZ3!

  • C’mon, GG, hook your boy up with the Limited Edition.

  • One thing I really hope isn’t in the full game is that annoying sound that the ISA make when they die. I’m begging you Guerilla Games, PLEASE don’t have the ISA sound like that when they die in the full game.

  • …where do i go to give beta feedback, just in case?

  • I have a lot of complaints with the beta, yet I find myself growing addicted to the multiplayer more and more. Also played the single player demo and was blown away bravo GG bravo.

  • Spawning facing a black wall. The Stairs case that has the landing in between flights is a hangup. Map offers no back protection. Causing 90% of deaths in the back. Screen turning to B&W is out dated. Wasting bullets when waiting for the kill beep. Kill beep outdated and dump as hell. Melee kills not demeaning enough to opposing player. Could be the B&W fading or 3rd person cam. I say both are crap.

  • I was really enjoying KZ3 open beta, but I woke up this morning and my 60gig has started showing artifacts and freezing. This game rekindled my love for shooters since after KZ2, nothing else comes even remotely close, which makes it so much more sad. Sev, live on solider, though I do not know when I may get a new console, hopefully it will be in time to join all my buddies with the new awesome Tactician class.

  • I downloaded the patch/update and it has helped, I’ve been able to get on a few times with no problems at all and stay through the whole match and continue with the next round. Thanks.

I can’t wait to get a hold of the game!

  • this chance would be nice if the F ING BETA WORKED!!!! I can never get connected. And NO its not my nat type as I have NAT 2, and play EVERY other game on my ps3 just fine.

  • I went back and played Killzone 2 MP whenever I couldn’t connect to the K3 MP Open Beta. I forgot how crazy hard it was to unlock anything. I’m really glad you can actually use all the classes from the start this time around.

Also really surprised at how much better the game looks in Killzone 3 than it did in 2. Didn’t think there was that much room for improvement!

  • no update to balance the Helghast out in operations?

  • I have a question.. complain.. I frankly don’t know sometimes I complain for the other site but…

When I look down the sights the aim moves in the same speed as if I wasn’t looking down the sights. Shouldn’t it be slower to make the shot more precise?

This is bugging the hell out of me.

  • I agree with others who say that the ISA death screams are pretty annoying.
Also somethin gameplay-wise is that I think the fully upgraded infiltrater is too unbalanced, because there’s absolutely no way to know a maxed out infiltrater is an enemy until he starts shooting with you.
Another minor thing is that I wish that you could see your gun (and character) on the loadout screen, especially since there are more guns in KZ3, and it would be easier to know what you’re picking if there was a picture to go with it.
But I’m definitely loving the beta, and it’s definitely even better than Killzone 2!

  • AWESOME! Canada is now involved :)

  • btw do the eye in the helmet turn on/off?

  • @GG
    I have 2 problems

    1) I still cannot connect as of 10:45pm EST

    2) When I played offline against bots I found that I was unable to tilt my sixaxis controller in KZ3 like I was in KZ2 in order to effect the aiming of my sniper rifle… whats the deal? This was working in the closed beta. Do not tell me you removed it.

  • #45 Correct
    10:45pm EST on tuesday.

  • I am not a fan of first person shooters (I am horrible at them) but for some reason I am actually good at Killzone 3. I will be getting this game day one. Now I know why FPS are so great!!!!!

  • half a million for a free demo of the multiplayer? This seems really low. Is that number just from the US? (even if it is it seems low).
