Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta update, new chance to win a Limited Helghast Edition for US and Canada

Killzone fans! It’s less than a week since the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Beta hit PlayStation Store, but already you’ve racked up some impressive numbers. There’s been a staggering 62 million – million! – kills, of which around 10% have been Brutal Melee kills. Some 400,000 games have been blitzed through, with well over half a million players appearing on the Killzone 3 leaderboards. And two of those players have stormed through the one million XP barrier already.

Killzone 3 multiplayer

Your dedication to the cause hasn’t gone unnoticed over at developer Guerrilla Games. Far from it: the team has been working around the clock to analyze and act upon your feedback. Below you’ll find a round-up of issues discovered thanks to your hard work, and the solutions Guerrilla is working on to refine your experience.

High level issues discovered:

  • Connection problems
  • High load caused the database to fall over
  • Score posting
  • Flickering screens
  • Ribbon stats not updating
  • Vulgarity filter

Solutions underway:

  • Guerrilla has already released a patch. At the time of writing this has gone live in the US and the EU. The other territories will follow shortly. We have no ETA on that.
  • Guerrilla has made improvements for the server connection issues. The server was brought down and back up for that on Monday, February 7th.
  • The problems with the vulgarity filter should be fixed now.
  • Guerrilla will continue to update the servers and patch the Beta if needed. We’re watching your feedback closely on Killzone.com.
  • Score posting issues have been resolved.
  • Ribbon stats updating issue has been resolved, known issue is that 1 ribbon (the faster reload ribbon) does not update yet.

From Guerrilla Games: “We are happy that we are encountering these issues now, during a Beta, instead of after launch. This will help us get ready for the huge amount of people that are expected to go online for Killzone 3’s launch.

This Beta also gives us the opportunity to change Killzone 3 based on feedback that we get. Although we’ve already gone gold, we can and will make server-side adjustments to things like weapon damage, balancing issues, and more. So this is not a demo, it is meant to be a Beta — a way for us to test the game.

Thanks for your continued patience and help in getting this tested properly.”

Last week, we held a sweepstakes to give away 60 Killzone 3 Limited Helghast Editions (not sold in stores) to players who participate in the Multiplayer Open Beta. We had such a great response that we are running the sweepstakes again! Members of the Killzone 3 team will log on to the Multiplayer Open Beta throughout the sweepstakes and randomly select players in matches. We will not select players more than once during the sweepstakes, and we will notify the winners via the email address associated with their PSN account.

So, log on and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta from Friday, February 11th through Sunday, February 13th. We will be randomly selecting 20 participants each day who are playing in the Open Beta and notify winners via the email address associated with each entrant’s PSN account between February 17th, 2011 and February 25th, 2011.

Check out the full rules below.

And for all of our Canadian residents reading the PlayStation.Blog and wondering where their contest is, don’t worry! Our Canadian colleagues are holding a contest as well! From Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13, five Canadian participants playing in the Killzone 3 open beta will be randomly selected each day. All potential winners will be notified through their email address associated with their PSN account. Please note that you must be over the age of 18 to participate and the contest is not open to residents of Quebec. Click here for full rules.

Log on and good luck this weekend!

Non-compliance with these Official Rules or failure to return all required documentation by the stated deadline or Sponsor’s inability to contact an entrant (using the contact information provided in his or her registration) within a reasonable time period, as determined by Sponsor’s sole discretion may result in disqualification and the forfeiture of the prize.

8. PUBLICITY: Except where prohibited, participation in the Promotion constitutes entrant’s consent to Sponsor’s and its agent’s use of the entrant’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or compensation.

9. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Potential winning entrants are subject to Sponsor’s verification. Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Promotion. Potential winners must comply with the Official Rules, and receipt of prizes is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. Sponsor has the sole discretion to modify, cancel or suspend this Promotion should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond Sponsor’s control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Promotion or Sponsor otherwise becomes incapable of running the Promotion as planned. Sponsor is not responsible for changes to entrant’s contact information. Sponsor has the sole discretion to disqualify entrants who violate these Official Rules, tamper with the operation of the Promotion or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to Sponsor, the Promotion or any other entrant.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Sponsor and its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, parent corporations, advertising and promotional agencies, and all of their officers, directors, shareholders, employees, and agents are not responsible for: any incorrect or inaccurate entry information; human errors; technical malfunctions; failures, omissions, interruptions, deletions, or defects of any telephone network, computer online system, computer equipment, servers, providers, or software, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer relating to participation or inability to participate in the Promotion; inability to access the Site or upload information or data; theft, tampering, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; data that is processed late or incorrectly or is incomplete or lost due to telephone, computer, or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on telephone lines or the Internet or any website (including the Site) or for any other reason whatsoever; printing or other errors; or any combination thereof. Proof of uploading information or data or entering information at the Site is not considered proof of delivery or receipt. Illegible, duplicate and incomplete entries will be disqualified. False, fraudulent, or deceptive entries or acts shall render entrants ineligible and all associated entries will be void.

  • Thats awesome guys, really cool of you to do. Ill be playing the Beta this weekend for sure.

  • Thanks for addressing these issues. I will be buying this game and this post makes me feel better about my purchase.

  • I have to be in an online multiplayer game to be selected right? Guess that rules out my chances of winning since I haven’t been able to connect even once since downloading it from PLUS. Even after the patch. I’m only able to play BOT games.

  • Updating now, thanks guys, the game rocks!!! 8)

  • Its sad to see that Quebec never gets any love for contests. Reason? Well we got a corrupted government that added a law saying that any contest outside of Quebec, the company that holds the contest must give to the government 10% of the prize value.
I never had a slight chance of getting the Uncharted Collector edition because of that and this time its the Killzone 3 Limited Hellghast Edition… I really hate politic…

  • The adaptive aim setting doesn’t seem to work either, why can’t I change that on the Move? I hate having to toggle it. Also there should be a controller settings screen (that shows what buttons do what) for the Move.

  • Not open to Quebec resident??? Not impressed Sony… not impressed at all…

  • If only I wasn’t working the late shift on those days this truly ruined my chances of winning. It’s alright but the one thing I would like to see is to see everything on a single page rather than me pressing square to upgrade my classes on another, guns are displayed right above the the info rather than the next page, make it like KZ2 but weapons, info, abilities are shown on the right to the class you have chosen not to compare to stupid cod but I like how you can see your character and the things he have to the right, this makes it easier to access and control. Inviting friends anytime during in-game, loading, and game over lobby. Sights and scopes I like using but I prefer iron sights all natural is the way to go. The extra ammo really isn’t extra ammo they only give like I don’t know 12 more rounds and a extra grenade I would want to have a full of everything. The ability to switch rate of fire from semi, fully, and burst shots makes it more realistic. Weather effects causes your screen to get messed up especially in the beta map Frozen Shore your screen gets icy, see and hear the breath of your character, an explosions gets dirt, mud , snow all up in there. That’s pretty much want I want.

  • @48
the other 3 to 4 million are unable to connect o the servers lol.

  • @57 lol could be the problem.

  • I knifed a whole lot and gained a few 10X kill streaks from Fri – Sun in the hopes of impressing anyone from GG that entered the same room.. not sure if i ran into any of you, my question is how are we able to tell that a GG staff member is playing in the same room?

  • WOW…i was happy when i read that canada was part of the contest, but i got [DELETED] slapped on the face when i saw that quebec wasn’t part of it (wtf isn’t quebec part of canada 0_0????)

  • Well the fact that barely anyone could log on and play, I would say that doing another contest is fair.

  • I Updated it, before it a 20 megabyte Patch , the same day you post the 10 score fo Killzone the Playstation Official Magazine

    PS Blog

Why you arent talking nothing about Sorcery it will be released in April First, theres only one gameplay the one from the E3

  • That’s alot of melee kills considering that the melee sucks. You have to be right next to someone for melee to work.

  • It’s nice to see a company that knows the difference between a beta and a demo — thanks for listening to the community, giving us feedback on what’s happening, and for providing a fantastic series in Killzone. Keep up the great work!

  • So what counts as a “play of the beta”? Starting up the beta and quiting? Starting the beta, playing a bot game, and quiting? Starting the beta, playing a multiplayer match, and quiting?

  • That great awesome amazing you are finally bring something to canada!!!!!!

  • Great game. Glad to see the attention to the issues, not that I was worried. It will be quite interesting to see where GG takes this series from here. Even if GG is not working on the killzone NGP series, I hope they are involved. Kojima games gain great strength from his involvement in each of the metal gear games, And killzone could use that attention from GG to keep the NGP on par with the PS3.

I am still confused as to where to pre order from. I want the amazon deal for the 3 unlock points but its not a day of release delivery.

Pre Orders should also be done through the PSN or playstation site, allowing us to choose our vendor and/or bonus content, even pay a dollars for combined bonus content.

    Take my money.

  • That’s what’s up #TeamBON

  • oh snap i want that limited version then please :P

  • I just got a 3DTV today, but I won’t get the glasses until friday. I can’t wait to try out Killzone 3D over the weekend and hopefully I’ll win that special edition! :)

  • For the next patch, please limit the groaning when a character is killed. It’s getting really annoying. I die a lot if you can’t tell.

  • Nice, odds don’t look favorable, but I try and play KZ3 once a day.

  • thanks for showing love to canada

  • yup still having connection issues everyday but when i get to play its worth it..

  • My b-day can’t come soon enough!!! 2/22 is going to be a day to party and play all day for me.

  • Are the guns in the beta the only guns in the full games ????

  • What about the squad HUD not showing up?
That’s what us Tactitions would like to know.

  • i still cant connect to play online. I hope you guys will fix this by friday so i can enter the sweepstakes contest again which i missed last week due to the connection issues.

  • woohoo canadians!!!!

  • cool wish i could have won the limited edition

  • When are details going to be released regarding the illuminated eyes Helghast Edition?

  • This great. Thank you for beta I plan on buying the game ASAP. The Beta is alot of fun and I want to play the final copy

  • The support being offered by Guerrilla Games is just astonishing. The game isn’t even out yet and they are listening to the community for feedback on what needs to help make the game a true AAA title. I feel that should be taken into account when reviewing a game. Not just how the game is, but how it’s handled, if a game is continuously and constantly being supported by the developers, and community feedback is listened to, that is worth more than anything. Thumbs up Guerrilla, you truly deserve it!

  • I love that you guys are doing this and testing everything out during beta and not waiting till release to fix all the issues! I can’t say the same for the continuous server side issues with COD right now! But I am so excited and can’t wait anymore for KZ3 to be released already! I hope my local GameStop does a midnight release! You guys rock!

  • @55, please the only corrupt government is the provincial Quebec seperatists, blame them for wanting their cake and eat it to for being different then the rst of Canada. learn some facts.

  • @65 ,umm, that’s how it is supposed to be, no the 10 foot magic knives of COD.

  • i played the pants off of the multiplayer this past weekend and will again next weekend, seeing as i cant afford to purchase the game, unemployment blows, i hope to get picked to win

  • Can you guys add the feature “Mute all”. It’s kind of annoying muting one by one. Time consuming

  • @90 You can “Mute All”. You need to go to the sound options and drop one of the sliders all the way to zero. I forget if the slider was labeled “Voice” or “Mic”. I think it is intuitive when you get there, but I was able to turn off all mic chatter and have been playing in peace ever since!

  • I wanted to play n play so much… BUT!! NEVER could!! I was so disappointed!! I was part of the CLOSED BETA and never did I encounter this new problems. Hope I can get to play now… Thanks for the UPDATE! Give me a limited edition!!! PLZ!!!! xD

  • For Canada too? Awesome! I’m so hoping I get myself one of those. :) I’ve never gotten one of these things before, so I’ll be playing all day for the time the contest is open.

  • So Quebec is excluded… that kinda sucks.. not your fault I guess.

Anyway, could you guys please add online co-op before the game launches if it is even possible loll.

  • if i can connect i’m in to trying to win. this beta gave me alot to think about as far as where to spend my points. i’m kind of thinking side arms for every class.

  • And what about Mexico ?? why we pay more for everything but we receive less than the other countries ??

  • thats 120 that will have been given away… wonder how they’ll do the other 880… so want one…

  • Yes! Thank you GG! My wishes have been heard. I’ll be playing this online for a chance to win a Helghast Edition… in Canada.

If not, I’ll get it anyway. Killzone 3 will be too good to pass up!

  • so… are the jetpacks gonna be some sort of pre-order item?

  • are winners still being selected tomorrow at 12 pm PST?
