In the Trenches with Killzone 3, SOCOM 4 and the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter

Hi everyone! My name is Richard Ho and I’m part of the SCEA marketing team that has brought you familiar peripherals such as the DUALSHOCK 3, Bluetooth Headset and Surround Sound System. Back in December we showed you the new PlayStation Move sharp shooter and its compatibility with Killzone 3. Today, we took some time to walk you through the sharp shooter’s anatomy and show you how it works in action with two of our most anticipated games – Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs.

The PlayStation Move sharp shooter’s authentic design allows you to literally take aim and move into the firefight with the most intuitive and immersive control experience for shooter games. For those of you FPS fans on the fence about the sharp shooter, here are a few things to consider:

Developers for Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 have created their games with the sharp shooter in mind. There are customization screens available to adjust the sharp shooter settings which will allow for a perfect gaming experience.

The PlayStation Move sharp shooter enables easy access to the navigation controller and features easily accessible buttons (use of the extension connector to map the motion controller buttons onto the body of the gun). Extra features such as the reload button, pump-action grip, and firing mode selector give you additional in-game options to play with. The digital trigger allows for short pulls – meaning faster firing compared to manual triggers. An adjustable shoulder stock increases comfort for those long play sessions. Finally, you can customize the gun with included Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 stickers to suit your taste.

With the more than 50 supported PlayStation Move games available, there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy. For the hardcore gamers, rest assured that Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 will not disappoint! The sharp shooter is only $39.99 (MSRP) and will be available at the time Killzone 3 launches on Feb 22, 2011. We can’t wait for you to test out the sharp shooter for yourselves. When you do, let us know what you think!

  • @erick_34 – no problem, perhaps I shouldn’t reply to two people in one comment. :-)

  • Already reserved this puppy on Amazon. Should be nice!

  • I’m so stoked for both theses games and plan on utilizing the sharpshooter and Move for both. KZ3 controls fantastically with Move. I tried going back to a DS3 and it just felt stiff and slow to me. Move just seems to sort of flow better. Even though it may seem sort of “unstable” to some people who first try it and may take some tweaking of the settings to really tune it to how you want it, you quickly adapt and become much better with it and are rewarded with a much smoother, more immersive experience.

  • Already pre-ordered and paid for! Cant wait.

  • nice, we got an answer on the jump.

it is SQUARE by your trigger finger. i dont jump and shoot very often (maybe not at all), so this should work

thank the gods! (bsg reference..watching for the first time…up to season 2.5)

    • Not only that, but the way I do it is keep my index finger on those buttons, and use my middle finger for the trigger.

  • Is there a way to make it where I can look down the sight of the gun and it will accurately shoot on the screen where I’m looking? Thats what I want. Even if its only within the bounding box.

  • @jeff oh ok cool. so everything is easily done as you can with a ds3 or move+nav..good good.

thank you again! i was a little worried, but figured there had to be an answer.

  • Weird…when I click on the video I get a video from Illinois realtors association. …?

  • @dh weird, when i click it it makes my put in my “birth date” ha….(aka any date that is before 18 yrs ago) and then it starts right up.

  • @jeff – thanks so much for clarification on jumping!

And even if we can’t jump and shoot at the same time on the controller, the game doesn’t let you shoot while you’re jumping anyway.

  • Wow, at first when i saw this i thought it was some crappy addition to move, but going into detail with this vid is actually convincing especially since guerilla and the socom team worked on it, which convince me more to get socom 4, and i’m not really a socom fan…but i am a killzone fan

  • Good KZ3 blog posts today!

  • @felkor i know right. so glad we got our answer. jeff’s the man!!! popping caps (knowledge) into our brains. ha

fyi – all of you should use the kz kill sound as your text notification. it’s pretty much the perfect sound for texts.

  • You can pre order it on amazon with free shipping right now. http://amzn.to/fMyKpU not a bad deal at all.

  • can we change the buttons to whatever we want for Move or are there presets only? I would want weapon swap to be X, L1 to jump, Square or Triangle to throw a grenade

  • Well I just ordered Move today and was interested in trying it with Killzone 3 which I already wanted, but now you made me want to try SOCOM 4 and the sharpshooter. Nice video (except the popping caps part =P ).

  • sony makes good thinks fact

  • Sharpshooter here I go! Oh, Socom 4 *drools*

  • Today was the day I decided to preorder both Killzone 3 and the sharpshooter. After watching this video, I am really glad I preordered! I cannot wait!

  • Problem is this all will cost you over $200 to get these accessories when each of the games mentioned will be past their prime by this time next year requiring us yet again to spend almost the same amount. Plus I would also prefer to try this sharpshooter out before i bought it and I think it should be bundled with the move. Ill have to pass until prices drop.

  • Will KZ3 comeout on PSN on lunch day!!!!!?????!!!

  • @WISHUWUD – KZ3 won’t be available over PSN as far as I know. The game apparently takes up around 45 GB on the blu-ray disc, so you probably wouldn’t want to download it anyway.

  • I got 500gb harddrive. I got the room

  • From a hard cores gamer (and Shooter fanboy) perspective I was very skeptical of the PS MOVE. But I ended up buying it out of curiosity (and ok maybe couple friends or so said GO BUY IT =P)
But to my surprise PSMove works really well on killzone 3, and this sharpshooter attachment is something I’m really looking forward to. The Move itself is very fun to use and I think that by adding the sharpshooter FPS games are going to be loads more fun :D

  • @dh4645, @felkor no body won we jump in the square

  • SICKKKK, Getting this for sure, Socom looks Great! For any Xbot or Any one That said Move is like the Wii , Wii Ant got Nothing on This Nor Kinect…..Xbox Eat your Micro Out

  • Looks a bit difficult, but I don’t own a PS Move. :p

  • i like it but ima hold off because ima get killzone 3 helghast edition but will surely get it when i get the money

  • Like Zombie was asking, how well will it work with MAG? I play that one alot with the Move (can’t go back to the DS3 anymore). Will the mapping get screwed up or will MAG have it’s own mapping? I ask because Zipper is incorporating it into Socom, so I just wonder if they will put the same thought into MAG. Will have to try it out at my local EB or Sony Store, but it is something I would be interested in. Is it fine for lefties too? I’m a leftie and I’m not sure if the buttons on the side will be set to favour right handed people.

  • =’D for left handers! Im’ so happy I might cry X)

  • I was very excited for the Sharpshooter until I played the Killzone 3 Beta. I must say that the Move works great with K3, but unfortunately, there’s one significant issue with it that I wasn’t able to resolve, no matter how many different solutions I attempted. The problem is that the reticle will not aim at where I’m pointing the controller. The reticle is always situated about an inch or more to the right of where I’m pointing, so I have to keep the controller pointed to the left side of the screen in order to look straight. No matter how many times I calibrated it, I would get the same result. What’s interesting is that at the end of the calibration process, the marker seems to actually be in the correct position, but after just a few seconds of play, it almost stubbornly finds its way back to that ‘sweet spot’ to the right. In truth, I think that everyone has this problem. They just don’t notice it. The problem is, when the Sharpshooter peripheral comes out, and people begin to use it as their primary controller, this issue will become more evident. Is anyone else out there noticing this issue?

  • The sharpshooter only does everything. Looks great by the way. I will definitley look for this when killzone three releases.

  • I would of picked it up first thing at $20
but $30 is a whole game.. decisions decisions.

  • I’ve been testing out my PS Move with the Killzone 3 Open Beta Multiplayer and I’ve got to say, I’m pleasantly supprised with how extreamly well it works on it’s own. At first I was hesitant that it would just turn out to be another gimmick, but I guess I was wrong! And I’m kind of glad that I was wrong. Gurilla Studio really steped up their game to bring the emersion to life with the Move controller. I’m deffinetly giving this one a try.

  • To jump you’ll need to press the X button on the navigation controller with the bottom of your thumb and push forward on the analog stick using the tip of your thumb. Hope this helps.

I’ve been playing Killzone 3 with the Move gun, may I say it’s awesome. It is a completely different experience then playing with the normal controller. You’ll feel the action as if you are holding a real gun inside the game. I’m also fortunate to have a 3D TV, playing with 3D on adds alot of depth to the game. I think everyone should try out this game with the Move as it will be the best FPS game ever.

  • Ok in the demo, I see a campaign co-op. So I havent tried it which would answer my question, but for co-op can 2 players have Move setups with/without the sharpshooter? Also for the co-op, once you start a co-op campaign, can the partner leave the game or does the co-op campaign have to be finished with the partner? In regular campaign can a co-op partner jump in and out?

  • Got a new TV and a PS3 came with it.I thought,What am I going to do with this.Well one of my kids got me BFBC2 and I’ve been playing it non stop. This looks like a blast,Think I’ll get one.I’m 50 years old,Never too old to have fun.

  • I tried watching the above video & what comes up is a 52min video from the state of illinois realtors meeting. Anyone else getting that? I’m on an iPad so maybe there is a compatibility issue?

  • can ps3 make the ps store available foe everyone because im dyeing 2 get the beta 4 kz3 and other game please psn pleaase

  • Any idea if the sharpshooter will be compatible with Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition? I saw that it is compatible with Dead Space Extraction!

  • Did nobody else notice the red coloured move controller? 30 seconds in, on the desk? Looks bad ass :|

  • kz3 and socom4 both look great and I can’t wait to play

also I wanted the sharpshooter since it was first announce and now I want it even more

I just hope I get a job very soon so I can have the money to by both kz3 and the sharpshooter

  • @131 I had that problem with Pain my problem was that the camera wasn’t pointing st forward it was pointing a little to the right I fix that and it work much better so make so you have eh camera in the center of your screen and pointing forward

that fix my problem I hope you can understand what I’m trying to say and I hope it helps

  • @141 that is not actually the move it is PlayStation Move shooting attachment

it is this in the pic on the this video before playing
    https://blog.playstation.com/2010/10/21/time-crisis-razing-storm-bullet-time-with-deadstorm-pirates-time-crisis-4/
and here is picture of it

  • nice peripheral, one thing that was really driving me insane in the demo was constantly having to change my hold on the controller to access the move button and all other buttons so this would really come in handy!
    But, 80 bucks!?
    thats a joke right!?
i could buy a whole new game for that price!
no scratch that, 2 whole new games!
handy it is, but 80 bucks for a piece of plastic?
come on, when did sony turn into MS?

  • I tried Killzone with the move last night and it wasn’t as weird as i though it might be. i was only using the move controller and the dualshock in the other hand and although i got pretty much annihilated first time i played i can definately see this working, and working well… The killzone deadspot is totally adjustable but the default setting was pretty good straight off the bat..
The only thing i really wanted was to have both controllers attached to each other to stop the ”pat your head, rub your stomach” feeling. I’m definately gonna get the sharpshooter for Killzone and MAG.

  • Already reserved and waiting for the 22nd! Man this kills any shooter game out right now!

  • How does this handle the pointer drift that often happens? Usually cursor drift is due to poor calibration but even then it can still drift on occasion. When calibrated correctly though it will correct itself.

  • If I had the money to buy all of the games I want in the next 3 months AND this, I would definitely get it. It’s like I need a second job for my hobby these days. lol

  • I was watching some footage of SOCOM 4 and it goes into 1st person mode ADS. I really, really hope they take that out before the final game because it looked completely lame.
