We’re excited to introduce a new way to experience music on your PlayStation and other Sony connected devices with today’s launch of cloud-based, streaming digital music service Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity. With Music Unlimited, you’ll have access to more than six million music tracks from major recording labels, leading independent labels and major publishers around the world. Discover the latest hits or classic favorites and sync your existing music library with the cloud for an endless custom music experience via personalized music channels and playlists.

Check out the video walkthrough to see how it works:

With Music Unlimited’s Basic service, you can enjoy commercial-free, uninterrupted music across a variety of channels and genres and provide instant feedback on each song to ensure that the service is learning your music preferences and providing the proper recommendations based on your personal tastes. With the Premium service, you can access additional premium music channels, search the entire music database, play songs on demand and create custom playlists.

In addition to PlayStation 3, you may also enjoy Music Unlimited on your network-enabled BRAVIA TV, Blu-Ray Disc player, Sony VAIO or other PC and coming soon to Sony’s other mobile devices, including PSP. Music Unlimited will be available later this afternoon Pacific Standard Time (PST) for 30-day free trial of the Premium service, with monthly subscriptions of Premium at $9.99 or Basic at $3.99. For more information about Music Unlimited, check out the press release.

  • I’ve been a member of Rhapsody since the service launched. Every since the changed the layout I haven’t liked using it all that much. I’ll try it but if it is a lot of button pushing, loading, and difficult to get around you can keep it.

  • Great, it’s not available in Canada, AGAIN.
    Anyway I don’t have psp anymore…

  • Was about to check out the free trial then i noticed that in the text is says that if you don’t cancel the free trial before it ends, you get charged… Knowing me and probably other people, they’d forget about stopping it if they didn’t want it (even though its great)

I know its a great service but that made me thin kit seemed like a trap :\

  • @186 isn’t the fact your aware of it , indication they were clear ??? i read what it said and thought it to be clear .

@185 you dont purchase through website and also to others … you can use psn card to purchase .
@198 Sony is not in business to irritate canadians . Sony cannot do as it want’s with copyrighted matierial , it has to abide by 3rd party copyright holders agreement’s , these are not SCEA’S property .

To all B& M ing about having to pay ….

IT’S NOT AD SUPPORTED !!! admittedly probably not a service just for the casual music lover , but that’s cool there are other options out there .

  • just updated the firmware to get the app and now my ps3 dont read discs anymore [DELETED]

  • PSN Plus Members should get the basic service FREE!!!!!!!! come on the service is great, but Plus members should get FREE!!!!!!!

  • Very cool. However, having Lady Gaga front and center on every channel is just stupid.

  • Good to hear theres still people who pay for music… lolz 0_0

  • oops … i forgot to add . Disable Dynamic Normalizer in settings to improve sound quality , it’s on by default

  • Loving it. Thank u Sony when u guys come out with this as an app for my Android it will most definitely replace my Pandora app. Here’s to the future.

  • Hopefully Qriocity will be able to run on 3G when the NGP comes out.

  • But Im already paying DCUO >=O damn jooo stop making me spend moneyz on stuff I already have!!

  • Can we get an official word on when this is coming to Canada?

  • Make this available in-game, as an optional replacement for Custom Soundtracks, and as background music for Home, and I’m completely sold :)

Otherwise, there’s not much chance of me sitting in front of the TV just to listen to music

  • They should sell songs through Music Unlimited too, so that we can listen offline, as custom soundtracks, and on other devices like mobile phones and MP3 players.

We could also get a small credit for each song purchase that would go towards our next month’s Qriocity subscription.

  • We have to pay extra for it? LAME! Although it seems like a great service, there are plenty of free ones out there already.

  • Hey, I think this feature is really awesome. I would love a streaming music service / radio service, especially from Sony, with their new mobile devices coming out on Android. I’m checking out the trial. Very sweet, indeed. The only thing is, I wish the cost of this was included in PS+, and not because you guys don’t already spoil us enough, it just makes sense. Another thing, that would make even more sense. If the cost isn’t included in PS+, I’d suggest somehow giving me access to this feature while I’m playing a game. There are a few times when I just want to listen to music, but most of the time I find myself wanting to listen to it while I’m gaming. Just a suggestion, but a damn good one. Thanks for all the cool stuff coming out this year with PlayStation and Android.

  • i guess something went wrong, they should allow to use the local media player in music unlimited everywhere in the world, im a us citizen living in mexico and i can’t use it!! whats up with that?

  • the prices are effing rediculous. 10 bucks a month? really?
    3.99 for pandora? really?

if it was faster and easier to add playlists on the fly, it would be nice. just give us add supported pandora for ffree or give basic to ps+ members.

10.00 a month is nuts. yall would have a lot more customers if the price was fair.

and how do you add playlists? the website is not helpful at all

  • Why my comment got erased i didnt use foul language nor offended anyone just told the truth, i upated the firmware to get the app and my ps3 stopped reading discs

  • Finally a proper way to browse and listen to music on the ps3. Media servers crash all the time and scrolling through hundreds of songs through the xmb interface is a royal pain. Just release an iphone app to access all that music on the go and it’s gold.

On a side note I don’t understand why people complain about spending $10/month for this or Netflix when they spend $50 for a game every couple of weeks.

  • the 48kbps bit rate suuuuucks!!! very low fidelity!!! up it to at least 128kbps or i wont be interested in this anymore.

  • If Sony wants people to use and purchase their product they should at least ask for credit card information when you make a actaul purchase, not for a demo or free trail!

Plus I would like to comment that your other music based application “Vidzone” takes forever to update at start up and i reckon its not user friendly enough!

  • I don’t understand why the sound quality is so much worse than Pandora. The music sounds like a bad YouTube upload.

  • This is actually a really superb music app… The layout and overall interface is great. I will admit though that it seems the audio quality isn’t quite on par with what it should be- I have a home theater system and I have to crank it to 35+ just to get the song somewhat loud, but even at that high there isn’t much bass in the songs. Maybe you guys could come out with a video explaining which options we should set our audio to for best sound.

Also, a legit complaint is the price… I’ll probably pay it anyway, and I don’t see it changing but at least make the prices last for like a 3-month span or something… Every single month is a tad costly- for that much money we should be able to rip the songs off our ps3 and onto other devices.

A positive request I’ve seen asked for is for you guys to release apps for the cell phone use- that’d be GREAT!!!

  • Lastly, I was wondering if you could do something to enable compatability with Mac OS… I use my Mac cuz… Well ITunes is on there so it’s where I keep all my songs, but the sync application with the Qriocity website doesn’t work with it. :(

Anyway, I suggest music lovers who enjoy sometimes just kicking back and listening to music, maybe hosting a party with this, or simply somebody who wants another use for their ps3, to check this out. Besides, 30 days FREE… Why not

  • Does anyone know when this will be released for use on the PSP?

  • I got this on the $4 plan. I like the UI. I dislike the fact that all songs played from the channels or via search are 30 second demo clips. Am I missing something here?

When I “Dislike” a song (I mean a 30 sec demo since I’ve yet to hear a full song play) why am I forced to listen to it?

  • I think it’s great. It’ about time music comes to the PSN. After all Playstation is Sony and Sony is Playstation.

  • i wish it would be for psp sooner

  • What’s so good about Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity? That’s a waste of my money. I’ll pass on this one.

  • hows it going mr lempel :)
sir if you’re reading this I have a few ideas on how to improve psn. now before you jump to conclusions, I don’t use any form of cfw. you can even look up my only account just to make sure :P

earlier today I was in an argument on the psu forums, it was basically a topic on new forms of cfw weather your in favor or not. but it’s basically a forum where those that were in favor can contribute.

yes I know cfw can lead to piracy,
but later I came realized there can also be benefits that can be added to psn.

    they call this xbmc,
although un-official to sony, wouldn’t you agree if this were be legit? :)

  • here’s my two cents,
what if sony allowed user created content….
but for psn? of course it’ll have to be approved by sony for it to pass.

all the user has to do is send you a blue print and a youtube video of there design, they explain how everything works. and when it’s time to decide you can set up some form of voting system for the fans wether the best designs make the cut or not.

even if it’s something to perfect that already exist on psn :)

all you have to do is tinker with the code to make it sony approved :)

I will repost this on the next update just in case you miss my suggestion :)

  • CAN YOU GUYS UPDATE THE PSP AND THE PS3 AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE SAME FETURES IT SUCKS WHEN ONE GETS SOMETHING LIKE THE PS3 GETING MUSIC UNLIMITED WAY BEFORE THE PSP JUST HAVE EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
