PlayStation Inside the 2011 Official NBA Players Lounge

Eric Levine's Avatar + Posted by Eric Levine on Feb 23, 2011 // SCEA PR Manager

The world of professional sports and video games collided this past weekend as PlayStation once again hooked up the official NBA Players Lounge during NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

PaulPierce

The lounge provided a great opportunity to give players and their families a chance to relax, get some food and drink, and play some of the latest PlayStation 3 games including MLB 11 The Show, inFAMOUS 2, Killzone 3,MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Gran Turismo 5, NBA 2K11, Buzz! Quiz World, and Sports Champions. To up the ante, we provided players with a one of a kind gift bag that included an NBA All-Star LA themed PS3 painted in blue or red, a pair of Nike Air Force 1 kicks, and a Nike travel bag to carry everything. To make each item a bit more personalized, we brought back the laser etching machine which allowed us to customize the PS3s, sneaks, and bags with a logo or name of their choice.

Can you guess who this PS3 was lasered for?

Ok, I know T.O. isn’t a hoopster, but he stopped by so we hooked him up…

TO

In addition to the players, we also had a few celebs attend the lounge—not a surprise since we were in LA. Actor Liam Hemsworth, most recently know for his role in the 2010 movie The Last Song opposite Miley Cyrus, dropped by to check out the latest PS3 games and took a liking to the PlayStation Move sharp shooter, as you can see here…

Actor Liam Hemsworth checks out the latest PS3 games while kicking back at the PlayStation NBA All-Star Players Lounge on February 18, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.

Some of the current and former NBA (and NFL) players who stopped by the lounge included:

  • Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics)
  • Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics)
  • John Wall (Washington Wizards)
  • Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks)
  • Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City Thunder)
  • Eric Gordon (Los Angeles Clippers)
  • DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings)
  • Tyreke Evans (Sacramento Kings)
  • Wesley Johnson (Minnesota Timberwolves)
  • Dikembe Mutombo (Former NBA center)
  • Ryan Hollins (Cleveland Cavaliers)
  • Wesley Matthews (Portland Trail Blazers)
  • Greg Monroe (Detroit Pistons)
  • JaVale McGee (Washington Wizards)
  • Terrell Owens (Cincinnati Bengals)
  • Eric Bledsoe (Los Angeles Clippers)
  • Da’Quan Bowers (Clemson DE, #1 NFL Draft prospect)
  • Kenyon Martin (Denver Nuggets)
  • Shelden Williams (New York Knicks)

You can see all the pictures of the players on Flickr, but for I’ll leave you with one last shot of the custom sneakers we gave out—pretty cool!!

Now we didn’t forget about you: our loyal, if slightly less famous fans. Stay tuned to the Blog in the coming weeks for an opportunity to win an NBA All-Star PS3 prize package!

I get so sick and tired of looking at all of these cool promotional PS3 accessories going into the hands of people who won’t even play/use them because they’re MILLIONAIRES, and they have better things to do since they have MILLIONS of dollars.

You got real gamers out there chomping at the bit to get some of the cool stuff Sony has made, like that KZ3 PS3 that went to some random baseball player. Meanwhile, Japan gets PS3s in all the colors of the rainbow.

Earth to Sony, American gamers like spending money on souped up PS3 related stuff too.

Why do you keep giving cool custom PS3′s to rich athletes?

Give that stuff away in contests.

9

+ Vu_Prime on February 23rd, 2011 at 10:18 am said:

Totally agree with krae_man. Why is it that the people who could afford to buy a custom console… get them for free? What up with that?

This is hardly a “giveaway”. That’s like going to the Oscars and giving the winning actors a fancy blu ray player. I don’t think they really care so much…

That has got to be one of the ugliest PS3′s I have come across on the internet.

Why any of you would want that POS is beyond me.

Only 2 will be given out in contest? The odds of me winning is like 1/10,000,000. Pretty much impossible 8(

How is everyone going to complain about a press event and a giceaway? This makes no sense, how is that possible? It’s a freakin’ promo, so they take pics with it and promote it, happens daily with anyone famous. I think it’s cool and hope I can score one!

Wow, another extremely rich person getting an expensive Sony item free that does nothing to actually promote the brand to your paying customers. Bravo! Money wasted on this stuff could be put to so much better use to promote your brand.

No Lebron or D Wade? EPIC FAIL!! Hey Sony give us some cool swag not these guys who have gazillions of dollars and can afford to buy awsome custom swag like this.

+ lyfestory on February 23rd, 2011 at 10:51 am said:

you give away these swag to guys who can easily afford to buy their own stuff..?? thats something ill never understand… its the average joes out here supporting these companies but most of us get nothing for free, but the rich fat cats get all this stuff handed to them for zilch… rich get richer, poor panhandle for nothing… nothing ever really changes…

Hey didn’t Paul Pierce get a laser-etched
PS3 last time? So he’s gonna get one every
time he shows up to one of these events?!?

Well I hope the Celtics win so Shaq can
get his 5th ring.

These kind of post just upset me because id love to have a PS3 like that, why dont u have events for NON Rich People like this where mayybe we can buy some nice PS3′s like that..it’s like we spend all this money we dont have on sony and they give stuff to the rich… sorry thats just my serious thoughts… limited paint schemes/ingraves designs im like are you guys serious.. its either the rich and famous or japan that get different colors and Game themes.Like the Killzone3 Ps3 Bundle, if it was Japan they’d have a whole camo ps3 with the Game inbox, not just the game.

I still love my 640gb slim ps3 but id love it more if it was a limited edition…
LOVING KILLZONE 3 w/ Move and Navigator Controllers and Gun Attachment WhICH I PRE-ORDERD FROM HOME, My Avatar chillin’ too with his JetPack!

@Eric Levine

I think what people are asking for it more then just a black PS3. They want an option to buy a KZ3 special Edition or the like. I spent $20 at Gamestop for a LBP2 cover for my PS3. It made it look awesome to me. People want to customize the PS3, even if it means just buying a White PS3 console like you can in Japan.

yeah everyone one of us here deserves those FREE playstation stuff as we are the only ones who support them, you guys should give em away to loyal fans not to those who are already rich, and always gets everything FOR FREEE!!
its not fair for those who actually support playstation but dont get anything for FREE. those who doesnt care and ARE RICH, gets all the FREE STUFF!!! plus if u give those stuff for FREE to us, its a PLUS for all of the PS fans! not to those who DONT CARE and DONT PLAY AT ALLL! think about it PLAYSTATION!

(but other than that, i want to join the competition)
CHeers!!

humm… As a NBA fan, I miss some nba player names on that lounge, and also sense some backlash from PR department not achieving neither one nor other goal promoting PS3 among rich and spoiled athletes.

I love you Sony, but sometimes you disappoint me. :(
