PlayStation Home to Add Suite of New Developer Tools and Tech with Version 1.5

117 0

Today, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, we lifted the veil on PlayStation Home’s version 1.5, which will be coming to your PS3s in early spring. The update will introduce a suite of new technology with tools that will enhance your experience with real-time multiplayer, improved physics, as well as more realistic graphics and animations. PlayStation Home v1.5 was developed with one singular goal in mind: high-quality games. Developers will utilize the improved network mechanics to bolster the multiplayer experience with the fastest action available. With the revamped physics engine, developers will carry more control over physics elements, graphics, rendering and animations, which will translate to more realistic and more intricate game experiences.

This update is significantly different from what you, the PlayStation Home community, have come to expect from past core client updates. While versions 1.3 and 1.4 brought user-facing features like Voice Chat, Cross Game Invites, Navigation Improvements, In-Store Previews, New Item Types (such as Active Items and Companions), Optimized Load Times and Universal Game Launching, PlayStation Home v1.5 is packed with tools and features that will enable developers to expand the types of games possible on the platform – from first-person shooters with real-time, peer-to-peer multiplayer to kart racers and more. These new developer tools also allow for richer graphics and an overall improvement to frame-rate, which is something on top of everyone’s wish list.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding – which is why we want to take this opportunity to show you how PlayStation Home v1.5 will impact your in-world experience. Behold SodiumTwo, the follow up to Lockwood Publishing’s massively successful tank combat game, Sodium One. The game, which is scheduled for release in conjunction with the 1.5 update, takes advantage of v1.5 and features heavily customizable jets squaring off in fast action multiplayer races at supersonic speeds. Check it out!

  • Woo!! PS Home on the Up an’ Up! Congrats, guys!

  • Very interesting. I bet if you guys added trophy support to Home games, people would DEFINITELY play them more ;)

  • Can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m still waiting for my trophy room!

  • Definately #2……Looks great!

  • Looks like WipeOut HD comes to Home.

  • THK U so much Locust_Star!! For posting this really cool and amazing update info! KUDOS to the team!! BTW, cant wait to see the multiplayer feature on S2!! Top Ten Baby! Yeah!!

  • Sweet, but does anyone get reminded of the Wipeout series?

Also Sodium 1 and 2 with trophy support please =3

  • Sweet loks kl

  • Locust_Star will this update improve framerate, and slow down? Theres alot of spaces, and areas that suffer from a very horrible framerate such as the Plaza. If this update doesnt address that, is it in the works?

    Thanks

    • The new Home 1.5 developer tools allow for optimal control of the rendering process resulting in more graphically rich scenes for those developers that take advantage of this technology. It will be very interesting to see what they come up with going forward.

  • Better graphics?! Awesome!

  • Wait… Did I just noticed new Project Velocity Pilot suits??? YES!!!

  • This is the kind of forward thinking Sony needs to keep users online and not offline pirating games. The pirates hurt us all. Wan’t to win over everyone??? Like apple did with the iPhone, add an App store. It will eliminate the need for jailbreaking too, bring android to the platform or something. Half the work is done for you. I just don’t want to see Sony go the same path Sega and Atari did and fall with the changing age of technology.

  • Home will never be popular.

  • Looking forward to seeing more of 1.5 in action. Sodium One is still a blast to play.

  • Now if only you can get more developers to put an effort into home you might have something. The sodium/lockwood group seems to be the only ones that consitently develops things for home. Most things get released and are never updated and patched and within weeks forgotten.

  • Wipeout rip, but hey I dont mind as it says its free. ;)

  • home is lame, #17 is right is a wipeout ripoff why would i pay real money for fake clothes or fake furniture … seriously [DELETED].
i am looking forward to see whats on the psn store update this week tho

  • Any plans to integrate avatars into XMB?

  • Home is starting to get very impressive. I have used it from time to time since it is interesting. But I think the biggest problem for me is the way the avatars look and the movements of said avatars.

If you guys shape that up than you would have sold me on it already. The only problem is when it comes to the avatars look, you can’t exactly change their form too much because it’d mean you’d have to change all the clothing to fit them.

So I’ll hold off until the next version of Home… that is unless you allow me to run around as a Sackperson from LBP.

  • WOOT! Iknew you guys have been in there tinkering. can’t wait to see this! super hyped!!!!

    • We’re always working on improving Home in every way, from the platform development itself to finding more offerings to enhance your day to day use (and play!).

  • So now Home is for games? I thought it was more about social interaction. ;-P

  • Where the hell is the Trophy Room?? You guys do know this is the ONLY thing people were excited about when Home was announced right? Nobody cares about the other stuff.

  • I would like more music players similar to the Playground Boombox for personal spaces and with the possibility of getting / buying more music for them.

  • and all this still on the beta phase, impressive

guess the final product will be stunning

    • I believe it will be. In the meantime, feel free to check Home out if you haven’t in a while—it’s pretty rad already.

  • I want Hulu Plus, Netflix or just videos I download from the PlayStation Video Store support. Where is that at?

What I mean by that is I would like to play videos from those app. the clips that we have now in the Loot Home Space are pointless 4 to 5 min. clips come on Sony you can do better then that, also where is my Trophy Room in Home why haven’t we gotten that yet.

There why more thing I could add or say but for now thats all I will say

    P.S.
    I love my PlayStation 3

  • very nice , any new NGP info ?

  • GlassWall thanks for answereing so fast, but unfortunaly that wasn’t the answere I was looking for.

  • i know this is off topic but wheres the Ford building ? :( lol and i cant wait :)

  • Nice!! Can’t wait to see what can be done with this.

  • Look I never go on home. I just play games. Plus ps3 games are much cheaper in Asda. :) I love 3D gaming :) can’t wait for more to come out. Anyone knows when racing games are out in 3D?.

  • Awesome!
Hopefully this will allow a trophy room to finally be developed.

  • who cares about Home

  • i loe any core client updates for Home, im in the Closed Beta for the Sodium 2 and its very very nice! Cant wait tosee what the other Dev Teams are doing with these tools!

  • I have a reason to get on Home soon!

  • What reason is that.?

  • Ok ummm when are we gonna get custom soundtracks man we need that the ps3 need that plzzz make custom soundtracks be real

  • @ HOME DEVS..YOU SERIOUSLLY DONT SEE THE SIMILARITIES WITH THIS AND WIPEOUT.I KNOW ITS WAY TOO LATE TO CHANGE ANYTHING BUT WHAT MAKE YOU THINK PEOPLE IN HOME ARE GOING TO WANT TO PLAY A WIPEOUT RIPOFF? IM NOT IMPRESSED..AND I DONT THINK MANY HOME USERS WILL BE EITHER.ON A BRIGHTER NOTE..HOME IS LOOKING AND LOADING ALOT BETTER..NOW ALL YOU GUYS NEED TO WORK ON IS IMPLEMENTING THE AVATARS ON OUR XMB PROFILE ..SO WE CAN SHOW THEM OFF TO OUR FRIENDS..AND ALSO UPGRADING THE TV WE PURCHASED AND ALLOWING IT TO SHOW VIDEOS FROM OUR HDD..SO OUR HOME BOYS OR GIRLS CAN NJOY IT WITH US TOO :P THANKS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  • Looks like a tweaked version of Wipeout HD, without the detailed ships, but it still looks great.

  • What about the people who aready bought the fricken game what do we get out of this >=[

  • Looking forward to it : ). Already like all the new outfits for the avatars in home, been having fun dressing mine, lol

  • Looking forward to seeing what the developers will do with these new tools! It would be awesome if PS Home would have a free kart racers — Not saying that MNR isn’t fun — or FPS! It also would be awesome for trophy support as others have also stated =)

  • Think home really needs to address the waiting on the server issue and X mashing to even try to play some games. At the very least use a queue system to organize and allow people to see a wait and anticipate time needing to be spent. I find it discouraging to wait to load a space, then try to hammer X to access a game.

  • i would like my trophie room,or expandable home spaces,to upgrade your harbor studios into one with a second floor maybe?(Giving out ideas of course). To stream live videos from the XMB to your tv inside of your home space to show your friends a Keven butler commercial!lol.the update your giving out is very nice i must say. but add some rewards like. if u beat a whole game give a small trophie to show off to friends in your space. you have beat a game completely to get it. or if u have any platinum games put a playstation reward for a ps3 platinum trophie.who agrees with me? that would be a nice add to home and make more people be active in home.

  • But will there be more new areas?

  • Any plans for 3D or move support for HOME?
Also any plans for HOME-PSN avatar integration?

  • Looks like Wipeout

Cool that you guys are doing more with HOME though–but yeah even the music was very Wipeout.

  • Great news but it would be nice to see the once-promised Trophy Room in Home. And XMB Home avatar support would be welcomed too.

  • Never played WipeOut before. This game looks great!!

As for the improvements to HOME, Well needed. You guys need to make a WWE apartment or Space. Kudos on the MTG space(FINALLY got a MTG shirt!!!)

  • More realistic graphics is the last thing HOME needed… looking forward to other improvements though.

Are any tools ever going to be released to the public? It would be nice if users could create content like in other visual communties.
