Coming to PlayStation Plus: Exclusive Mortal Kombat Demo, PSN Gamers’ Choice Award Winners, and Prince of Persia Full Game Trial

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Mar 03, 2011 // Director, PlayStation Store

Hi everyone,

March is chock-full of exclusives for PlayStation Plus subscribers. We’re excited to share that over the next two weeks, our subscribers will be receiving two full game trials, an exclusive demo for Mortal Kombat, and discounts on the PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards winners. So let’s get to the meat of this thing and jump straight into our two upcoming PlayStation Plus publishes.

Brush up on your “finishing moves” because on Tuesday, March 8, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download the Mortal Kombat demo.

That’s one week before it’s available to everyone via PlayStation Store.

Mortal Kombat

Battle your way through this fighting adventure and experience the joy of the once-controversial, uber-gorey fatalities. The Mortal Kombat demo will also be offered as an Auto Download, so PlayStation Plus subscribers should have their automatic download feature turned on.

The demo includes four playable characters: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and Mileena, along with their Fatalities and X-Ray Attacks; two environments: The Pit and The Living Forest; single player and one-on-one versus modes; and stereoscopic 3D support.

Tell us: which Kombatant will you be fighting as first?

In addition to Mortal Kombat, we are offering a 50% discount on the PSone import Mega Man 3, and 50% discounts on the PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards winners. You voted, and we’re happy to be offering exclusive access and a 50% discount on the Best PSP Game, Best PSN Exclusive Game and Best mini. We’re also offering the Qore March Single Episode to all PlayStation Plus subscribers for free!

On March 15 in our regular publish we will be offering two full game trials: Prince of Persia (Ubisoft) and MAG (SCEA). In Prince of Persia you’ll combat various enemies as they attempt to take over and cleanse ancient Persia of corruption. In MAG (Massive Action Game) you’ll travel to the year 2025 and put your weapons to full use as you lead a private military company through “The Shadow War.”

This is the Full Game Trial, not the demo which was offered previously. You’re getting the full game to play up to an hour, and you’re not capped at Level 8.

“We’re also offering the Qore March Single Episode to all PlayStation Plus subscribers for free!” i disagree with that cause i’m a play station plus member but in a Mexican account and we almost all the months can’t get the same thing the US play station plus members can including all the Qore episodes and much more stuffs BUT we pay the same amount of money for the account.

I may consider ps plus down the road, I feel like I’m getting shafted for not having it. Out of my 13 friends only one of them currently have ps plus. I was considering buying MK but without being able to try it I guess I’ll add it to the rent pile.

Sweet. I’ve been looking forward to an MK demo.

Though you continue your trend of putting games I already own up as Full Game Trials. Unfortunately for me, but understandable. I own good games. :)

Wait so Sonic the Hedgehog from the sega collection really is our free psn game this month ? A game from almost 20 years ago and that will cost $4.99 is our free psn game this month?

Seriously ??

And this is the trend for the next six months? I don’t think I will be resubscribing till the Sega collection blows over .

I thought we had full, unlimited time access to MAG, such that we couldn’t progress past user level 10 in the game? That is much better than a 1 hour trial.

quick question, just to clarify:

when you say Prince of Persia, you mean “PoP: The Forgotten Sands”, correct? because there is also the PoP remake on the PSN store.

just wanted to double check.

MK demo is only coming to plus? Never on the regular store? Also whats th pricing of PS+

25

+ JamesSoprano on March 3rd, 2011 at 8:26 am said:

PS Plus is a joke IMO. why should i pay money to get access to Beta’s ? really people should apply to them and get picked ( that’s how i think it should work ) Discounts ? so your paying money to get discounts on games which is dumb .. give everyone the same discounts i bet Sony will have more sales.

as for Exclusive Demos. oh boy we have too wait a whole week or two till we get to try it ! oh boy your soo lucky ! and i’m wicked Jealous of the 60 Min Trial for the games ! ( not )

Seriously and the free games yea that’s nice but you don’t keep the game after subs up so at the end of it it’s like a rental then you have to re-buy the games you got for free if you really wanna play them ( at any time )

so tell me. why should i give in to the PS Plus ? you could say it has it’s Perks but they only last for so long…. it’s like a Glorified Coupon Book online, for those who payed for it and think it’s worth it. power to you. i just don’t see anything worth for me jumping into.

It’s really disappointing that our only free game this month is Sonic the Hedgehog. I’ve been loving Plus so far, but if all we get for free games for the next 6 months is old Sega games I will not be happy.

28

+ Tank_Baked on March 3rd, 2011 at 8:30 am said:

I’m not really sure why plus members are excited about this. Other than the MK demo this really bites. Discounts on games I already own or don’t want (mega man 3 ?? jap import??) Game trial for a game we already have full access to(with a level 10 cap). Sonic from 1991 as our free psn game of the month ?

I’m sorry but I was really happy with plus until lately. Now I’m ready to jump off the sinking ship .

@Xer0Signal

my guess is POP The Forgotten Sands But Then Again A Disc Release of the Trilogy of PoP is out this month .. or is that Splinter Cell ? …. ehhh i forget you know what i think it might actually be Sands Of Time .. yea that’s my guess and a safe bet.

20% for everyone else

It’s not fair that there are “exclusive” demos for play station plus members, they PAY FOR A DEMO, I know that there are other cool stuff, but demos should be free for all users.

+ NESGamepro on March 3rd, 2011 at 8:45 am said:

Compared to the awesomeness that was the last couple months, this is pretty weak. No new free games, the game trials add trophies to your account so I won’t play them and the week early demos I often don’t get around to until it’s released to all of PSN anyway. Discounts are nice at least.

43

+ Goofyman on March 3rd, 2011 at 8:45 am said:

Not a fan of this PLUS stuff. Just another money grab from Sony for what would otherwise have been free to everybody before. Demo’s like the MK Demo should be made available to all, not just the rich.

As a plus member I’ve been impressed with the last couple offerings (stacking, especially), but now I’m disappointed again.

The 1-hour trials add no value for me. I have yet to download one. It’s like paying for the privilege of watching commercials. I’d rather just have a normal free, limited demo (which often has more than 1 hr of gameplay anyway) and go buy these old games cheaper used, and I don’t need plus for that. You’re not fooling me by calling this a “plus feature.”

I don’t care about the MK demo. We don’t play M games.

I was pretty happy about getting Sonic free until I realized it was the only offering I’d like for the next month. If the genesis collection is all we’re getting for free for the next several months, I’m in for some long-term disappointment.

The 50% off could be good depending on what wins, but then again, weren’t all the spring fever sales last year 50% off for *everybody*, not just PSN? And for more than 4 games? Not that great.

meh. One good month, one lousy month. Maybe it will even out. Still worth $3/month, I guess.

MK Demo is early access for PS+ the following week is for all, holy crap don’t some of you read the whole article? I love my PS+ it’s an excellent way for TRUE and LOYAL Sony fans to have ealry access to games. To those who say about sonic being rip-off, get outta here did u for get about wipeout(29.99), sam and max(14.99), stacking(14.99), all the minis, all the themes, the early access, the discounts, and the awesome + symbol buy our names to represent our Sony passion. We fans of sony are the hardest of the hardcores and we back our brand up, so suck it up.
I will be bustin head with my main man Scorpion on the MK demo.
Looking forward to see what games won the GCA’s.
Thanks Sony, you ROCK!!!!!!!

I know Grace never responds to anything she posts on the blog since she is a “senior manager” but maybe 1 of the “not-so-senior” managers can answer this:

Are the upcoming Sega games – starting with Sonic – going to be the equivalent of the PSN games Plus subscribers are supposed to get every month? (1 mini, 1 PS1, 1 PSN)

I defended Plus a few weeks ago saying nobody at Sony could possibly confuse a PSN game with a 20 year old Genesis game and what was likely to happen was the Sega games would replace the PS1 games which I’ld say are near-enough equivalents. This month we’re currently getting Sonic and Spyro and 2 minis and zero PSN games. I still think Sony won’t renege on the PSN game, and as March is a long month with 5 Tuesdays we are still due a PS+ update on March 29th based on the every 2 week cycle.

Still, that’s just my optimistic/realistic thinking. Can somebody from Sony please clearly state their intentions towards the Sega games of the next few months?
