SOCOM 4 Bomb Squad Revealed, Beta Release Details

SOCOM 4: Bomb Squad

Competitive multiplayer has always been the core of the SOCOM franchise, and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs takes it further than ever before with modes and options that both new recruits and veterans alike will enjoy. We’ve previously covered three of our four competitive modes — Suppression, Last Defense and Uplink — and today we’re excited to unveil our fourth mode, Bomb Squad.

In Bomb Squad, Insurgents have planted a number of bombs around the map and the Spec Ops team must defuse them all before time runs out. What makes Bomb Squad special is that it features the unique Bomb Technician character, played by one member of the Spec Ops team, who is charged with defusing the explosives. He carries both an automatic shotgun and a mobile grenade launcher and is very heavily armored, making him a deadly force on his own; that said, the technician is still an open target any time he turns his back to defuse Insurgent bombs. Succeeding in Bomb Squad requires tactics, teamwork, patience and confidence to get the job done, all pillars of the overall SOCOM experience.

When can you get your hands on Bomb Squad, you ask? Well, you’ll be able to try out all four of our modes on two maps in our upcoming beta! The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will include each of the game’s competitive multiplayer modes — Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad — all playable on the maps “Port Authority” and “Assault & Battery”. And of course, you’ll be able to play each of our modes in either of their Standard or Classic variants.

SOCOM 4: Bomb Squad

The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will roll out in four separate phases. It’ll begin with a small, private group and then expand weekly from there until it’s freely available to everyone! Here’s the schedule for each of the beta’s rollout phases:

  • On March 15th, a private beta goes live. We’ll be contacting eligible players soon.
  • Beginning March 22nd, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to the beta.
  • On March 29th, anyone with a beta code included with Killzone 3 gains entry.
  • Starting April 5th, the beta will be freely downloadable to anyone via PlayStation Network.

The beta is scheduled to run until April 13th, at which point the servers will be taken down in preparation of SOCOM 4’s retail release on April 19th!

  • well the beta will tell me if the game is good or not smart to include in KZ3.

    • The beta will certainly give you a good idea of what the full MP is going to be like as all modes will be included for play on the two beta maps. Single-player and co-op are other stories and major parts of the game, but if you dig the MP then you’re sure to be happy with the full game.

  • Great! I’m hoping I am one of those lucky enough to get in the private beta so I can get hands on with the game asap and help anyway I can to make it an even better experience.

  • Wow, really sucks that I bought Killzone for the Socom beta and I can’t get in until week 3?! that really sucks….

  • Ps plus members get to try out the beta first!!!
can’t wait to try it out

  • Wow I have to admit I feel cheated with my KZ3 code getting in 3rd. I’m a PS+ member so I may as well just give my KZ3 code away.

  • That’s the Bomb!!!

  • PS Plus rules!

  • Will GAP members be getting invites into the private beta? Thanks.

  • Never got into SOCOM, but will definitely be checking out that beta. This bomb squad element looks like mad fun.

Very nice to see the beta will be open for everyone eventually.

Just might have to give away my KZ3 SOCOM code as I will have access with the Plus membership anyway.

  • Dev’s when SOCOM Launches do you still plan on supporting MAG? I got a feeling most MAG players are going to jump ship and go for SOCOM anyways.

  • If I’m in the playstation plus wave of the beta, does that continue in to the other waves or is it just ps+ from March 22nd-29th then have to have code from KZ3 to continue on from there?

  • The Plus Beta on the 22nd overrides my KZ3 Beta code. Oh well, I will be gifting it to someone in that case.

    Unless….
If I put those 2 together can I participate in the private Beta on the 15th? Just kidding. But it was worth a try.

  • Ghost-of-SpartaX

    BEYOND!!!! its the roper report.

  • dang crysis 2 and socom on 22nd dang to many games r coming and the betas too :/

  • So how does one get into the private early beta… if such a thing is possible?

  • I find it funny that those who bought KZ3 get put into one of the last groups of openings.

  • hopefully i get into the private beta

  • Oh this is ridiculous!! I bought Killzone 3 for Socom beta code since thats how it was adverstised but now I find it oh you get in at the 2nd to last stage 2 weeks later. Selling Kz3 and will prolly skip Socom4 now sicne you just pissed me off.

  • Awesome!
Good to know as a PS+ Subscriber I can give away my KZ code!

  • Can I have one of your guy’s killzone 3 beta codes since you get it a week earlier? Please? Send me it in a message on ps3 I will be forever grateful

  • PlayStation Plus works its magic once again. I need to gift my beta that I got with Killzone 3 to someone.

  • Will this beta have Move support?
Cant wait for the SOCOM & Move bundle!!!
Hopefully will see more “hardcore” games taking full advantage of the Move setup…

  • What’s the point to get early access to the beta if u bought KZ3 that’s [DELETED] we should get the same day access like PS+ members they need to fix this [DELETED] ASAP

  • Wow, someone actually bought KZ3 just to get a beta code. How dumb is that? Could have joined Plus for less and got the demo earlier.

  • LOL @ people who bought KZ3 for Socom beta code. Big Ole Dummies. Regardless, I will be enjoying Socom on the 22nd :)

  • Yea I wish I could start playing from day one. Just sayin’. I’m really looking forward to getting the full deployment. It’s gonna rock my sox and satisfy the need for unique and team based game play. Zipper FTW!

  • Will GAP members get the private beta? Could you answer thanks…

  • From your Blog post about KZ3 granting early access

“Inside the box you’ll find a PSN code that you’ll be able to redeem for your early access as soon as the beta goes live.”

Not really early or “as soon as the beta goes live” either.

  • How can Zipper do us like that? I already have ps+ and I go get killzone thinkin we’ll get the beta before any ps+ member and they get it 1st??!! And then the killzone beta is only for 2 weeks?? Wow. Zipper pulled a fast one on everybody with the whole killzone beta and its very fustrating to me!!!!

  • @SteveO1683 (27)
Lesson learned for when the Uncharted 3 beta comes out. They’ll probably do the same thing with inFamous 2 release!

  • I thought the BETA included with my Killzone was a nice treat, though looks like I didn’t even need it since I’m PS+ :). Can’t wait for the BETA to start!

  • That’s pretty lame that it goes public a week after the KZ3 buyers. In my opinion I think the Plus members should get it the week before the public beta, and the KZ3 buyers should get it before the Plus members.

I feel bad for the person I sold my KZ3 SOCOM code to.

  • would be nice to get into the closed beta, i was in the beta for MAG and socom3, also confrontations which well we all know didnt work out right

  • Indeed @cybercam. Indeed.

  • The way the beta is rolled out would be Sony decision. Clearly they want to push PS+ as much as possible. I’m sure if Zipper had their way we would all have the beta in our hands.

    • It’s also a player count thing. We want to start off small and roll out to more and more players each week. There were a lot of copies of Killzone 3 shipped out with beta codes in them.

  • I remember zipper clearly stating that there would be multiple ways of getting into the beta, not just through killzone. I already knew from both of killzones beta that the multiplayer is trash so I didnt get the game. Knowing that I could get socom beta elsewhere sealed the deal of me not getting it :)..

  • No one its getting answers in this Blog…Hmmm…Oh well, I’ll ask anyway! Will the PS Plus members still need the BETA code included inside KILLZONE 3 or will they get the BETA PS PLUS exclusive code… I would like to give away my KILLZONE 3 Socom beta code since Im a Plus member…

    • Once you’re in, you’re in. So if you have both a PlayStation Plus account and a Killzone 3 code, you won’t need the Killzone 3 code.

  • unfair :( , we bought killzone 3 :( , w should have got it in the same day wth ps+ !! T_T

  • @Busca-Cabezas (35)
That’s a no brainer… PSN+ users have their own download section on PSN, so they’ll surely receive a code to download it whether they bought Kz3 or not.

  • I would also like to know if PS+ members need their KZ3 codes as I would like to give it away as well. I know someone who would really enjoy this beta and I want to give him a code. I personally think that whoever got KZ3 for the code should get the beta first or at least second.

  • Bought Killzone 3 forgetting that my copy would be packed with the Socom 4 beta, Since I’m a Plus Member I can just easily give the code to one of my friends so we can both play. Win-Win Situation for me.

  • Im really looking forward to this however after the last one im still kinda iffy on it.

The bundle announced last week would be the game iw ould get though as i want move.

  • @Falconsfan07- That’s what I’m saying..people who got killzone 3 should get it before any ps+members and I am a ps+ member since october!! Early Access my A** Sony!!

  • I’ve participated in almost every SOCOM beta since SOCOM II. How does someone qualify for the private beta? I would love to be part of it again.

Any chance that PlayStation G.A.P. members get invites?

What about people who own the Move controller? … I do! Please, someone tell me how I can get a private beta invite. I don’t want to have to wait till the Killzone 3 invites are active!

  • For the people that have PSN+ & a Kz3 beta code… why don’t you just wait until you’re PSN+ code is mailed to you before you give away your Kz3 code. It only makes sense since you have a full 7 days to give away the Kz3 code… it can’t be used until 3 week anyway!

    It’s just common sense fellas!

  • i wish they put up a small video. would have been nice. yes i can look it up elsewhere but why? playstation website (here) should have it all. “it only does everything” i thank you for the pics anyways :)

  • Already have the Move bundle pre-ordered!

  • @Ghost-of-SpartaX

    BEYOND!

and can’t wait for the beta.

  • Did I mention that the week the private beta starts I have off work? … I have the week of March 14th off, just in case you didn’t know. Now I’m going to gush over why I think I would be a great candidate for the private beta.

    Why you should pick me:

    – 5+years QA experience
    – 6+years networking experience
    – SOCOM veteran since SOCOM 1 online
    – PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter owner
    – Able to dedicate long hours
    – Large PSN friends list for load testing
    – Excellent bug tracking and documentation skills

Also, in case I forgot to mention it…I have the week of March 14th off.
