Beyond Good & Evil HD Coming May 2011, More Goodies for Early Buyers

Good news PlayStation fans! Beyond Good & Evil HD is coming to the PlayStation Network in May 2011. Fans of the 2003 cult classic will be able to relive the adventures of Jade as she uncovers a planet-wide alien conspiracy that is taking over Hillys. At its time, Beyond Good & Evil was considered one of the top adventure games on the PlayStation 2, and soon you’ll be able to play it in HD on your PS3.

With the HD release of the game, you can expect to see the same type of care Michel Ancel and his team has when they designed the original game. Dive deep into the beautiful world of Hillys as Jade encounters different species of animals and enemies. Along with the visuals, we have also updated the audio allowing you to experience the 2004 AIAS nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition and Oustanding Achievement in Sound Design. All this combines into the best version of Beyond Good & Evil yet.

  • Missed out on it the first time, this time I plan on getting it day 1 =D Two months suddenly feels like a long wait for me but i’m thinking it’ll be well worth the wait. I’ve been wanting to play this one for a while now!

  • So many games…. I love it!!

  • But will it have trophies? :) I might pick this game up, it was a fun game and I enjoyed it.

    Chris

  • What do you guys say about all the new glitches in the HD version that GameTrailers pointed out? Will these be fixed in the final version?

  • geez, im may? i though microsofts promotional deal would only be for a month, like with lara croft. just hope i remember this game when it actually comes out, since ive been wanting to really play it recently

  • Why did this come out for Xbox 360 already? And now we have to wait til May?

Sorry. You’ve just lost my purchase. I’m all for HD re-releases of sweet games. But when you pull the Xbox 360 exclusivity card for a third party game (on PSN no less!), thats a deal breaker. I can’t support developers who treat Ps3 like a second-rate machine. It is by and large the superior machine; if anything it should be getting content first, not the other way around.

  • Time released 360 exclusive appears on PS 3. How exciting!

  • I heard so much great things about this game but like many others, I never had the opportunity (or time) to play it… I hope there are PSN trophies but at the very least, I’d like to do my part and support this game so that the long awaited sequel does get developed!!

  • Woops, I think you mean Michel Ancel, right? :)

  • Greatest news is its only $9.99 :D Way to go Sony! I raise a Glass of Guinness in your honor today!

  • Excited! I’ll be getting this day one, and that’ll make it the fifth platform I’ve picked up this game on. :)

  • Anything else coming in MAY? WKC 2 perhaps? Or will I be forced to import?

    I’ll take WKC 2 over a 7 year old HD cash-grab, thanks.

@ 4 Pretty sure all the glitches remain. At least the did on the “other” HD version. You can find thread upon thread at Gamepot regarding the issues.

  • Looks great :-)

  • @10, Thanks, just depressing that they’re not being fixed. Oh well, for its small price I can’t complain since I never plated it the first time, but had many friends talk about it. I was too busy playing Disgaea and Monster Hunter to care. Yeah a sequel to WKC would be nice since the first was a major let down outside of the decent online multi-player.

  • @12 They already announced WKC 2 and WKC PSP on the EU Blog like over a week ago.

Have no idea why the US blog is playing mum on the issue.

  • I’ll buy since it’s a freaking awesome game, but man, I hate timed exclusivity.

  • More old PS2 games for the PS3 in HD please :-P [considering PS2 playback on a PS3 seems to be never coming back, which is a shame because i would love to play my 70’ish PS2 games on my PS3] :-(

  • Definitely picking this one up, sucks I didn’t get to play the original, but now I get to play it in all its remastered glory. :)

  • Whoa, ten bucks?! Coolies. I can support this kinda stuff on PSN, and use my Bing Rewards-gained MS Points for more exclusive content (used a good chunk to get the Zeboyd games (Breath of Death, Cthulhu saves the world, and the text adventures Molly the Were-Zompire and Epiphany in Spaaace!…which Sony totally needs to approach them about, BTW, as they’re p. damn good titles)). And then there’s the Avatar bonus, which really isn’t much, but there go firin’ my “if I wanna get in on something, I wanna get in on all of it” nerves.

    Plus, so much green.

  • @Christian399
Excellent comment. Why the hell isn’t there a post about WKC2 for the US as yet? WKC 2 >>>>>any day of the week. When these developers release this HD remake without polishing them, it shows that they are only doing it for the quick cash and not because of the fans of the original release (like me).

  • Ahh…Jade, my virtual goddess. Im really looking forward to this game and its predecessor.

  • Thank you for making this available on PSN. It’s always great to see another developer looking to the future which will unquestionably be dominated by digital distribution.

  • I have a Xbox 360 and didn’t buy this game.

Offering two PSN Avatars into the mix is weak! Still no buy from me!

  • Very excited for this re-release! One of my favorite older games. I played it on NGC originally, it’ll be nice to play it on the PS3. Let’s hear it for the return of Jade and Page!

One of my first reviews from my gaming blog:
    http://gamedae.blogspot.com/2010/04/beyond-good-evil.html

  • day 1 buy for me, BUT i have a question… Did the fix the horrible “inversion” controls from the xbox to the ps3 version?

  • I actually got this for free on the “other” console, but I’m still going to buy it for the PS3. Thats how much I love my PS3 and you guys ;D

Plus two free avatars? Pfff, no-brainer!

  • Definitely looking forward to this. I absolutely loved the game the first time around and those avatars look great. That Pey’j avatar makes him look a lot more well built than what I remember him being in the game :P

Now if we can just get BG&E2…

  • I have the same concern as Sneeches, bought this game on Steam a while back only to find out when you want to invert look, it inverts the X-axis as well as the y-axis — I won’t be buying this game if I can’t invert them independently as I only y-axis inversion.

  • I’ve heard a lot about this game, so looking forward to playing it.

A thought struck me though. Why is it in game and movies we side with terrorist, but in real-life we side with the empire? Star Wars – Luke and his merry men are essentially terrorists/insurgents. In Good & Evil, she admittes to being a traitor and I assume gets up to terrorist activites. There are other examples, that elude me right now

So any psychologists out there that can clarify why humans do that?

  • I dunno, I’m kind of disappointed we have to wait this long for a “timed exclusive.” I’m not even sure if I feel like waiting and rather just get it on my Xbox 360. It’s a weird concept but this was a game I would’ve bought on my original Xbox since I didn’t own a PS2 after 2003, therefore I kind of want it for my 360.

  • This game is awesome but a little short.

  • I never got to play the original, so I may pick this up. However, just the next month Infamous 2 comes out and I’m getting the hero edition so I will probably pass at first for this game.

  • Hopefully there will be a discount for Plus users.

  • No thanks Ubisoft. I would have definitely bought it on March 2nd but now you’re making me wait 2 months for two worthless avatars I’m gonna ignore this altogether. Timed exclusives are one of the worst things to happen to gaming in a long time and for you to do an exclusivity deal for a game that is known for selling badly shows that you’re only interested in the money Microsoft is wiling to give you.

I hope this game sells terribly on PSN just to show you how bad the result of timed exclusivity can be.

  • And they’re clearly using gameplay footage from the 360 version in that video (with the blue “X” and yellow “Y”), they really are not interested in trying to gain a following with PS3 users this gen (no Splinter Cell Conviction, Child of Eden only announced for 360,…)

  • Meh developers are hating on the ps3 why oh why

  • Nobody is going to care in 2 months. I hope those dashboard ads were worth it.

  • BG&E is an excellent game. Sucks it’ll take a while but i guess it’s how this business works now a days. No biggie, at least it will be available on PS3 as well.

  • I want to play this since I never have on any platform. But I’m so tired of sloppy seconds from Xcrap. Stop the madness!!!

@ #3–I’d say of course. GOW collection and other HD remakes all do.

  • Awesome. This year is is really starting to hurt both my digital wallet and my analog wallet.

  • I played it on the PS2 two years ago and I wasn’t the biggest fan of it TBH. It’s still awesome that more PS2 era games are getting HD remakes.

  • I’m not buying this game. I’m not supporting developers who treat PS3 as lower priority.

Support EA, Warner Bros Games, Sega, and Valve instead

  • May huh? So we’ll be waiting a while. Kind of sucks but I guess I’ll keep a PSN card handy.

  • i got for ps2 but didn’t get to far into it. the inverted thing didn’t bother me. i tried to start over on my 60gig but got caught up in other games again. i like the price but i don’t think avatars are going to get me to rush for the download

  • add this to the growing list of games i want

  • People
stop asking if there are trophies

it’s MANDATORY to have trophies in all ps3 games – has been for 2 years
    they all have trophies

  • More waiting I see. All I have been doing in 2011 is waiting to play the games I want to play. I’m getting so sick of waiting for everything.

  • May? aww why so late? come on i thought its this month

  • Why so long after the turdbox got it?

  • I very strongly recommend everyone pick up this game. It’s 10 bucks and you’re getting what was a full retail priced game on the PS2/xbox/gamecube. So you’re getting a TON of content and gameplay for your 10 dollars.

Not only that, but it easily became one of my personal favorite platformer/adventure games of all time, right alongside Assassin’s Creed II and Uncharted. The game is frikkin amazing. I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed the story.

I already bought this on 360 like 2 weeks ago, so I probably won’t be picking this up day one. However if I feel like playing again somewhere down the line, I’ll probably pick up the PS3 version just to show support for the game. Seriously, we need a sequel! Especially with that little cliffhanger bit after the credits…

Question though…will the avatars be available for purchase separately?
