The Drop: Week of March 21st 2011 New Releases

Our first-party domination continues with PlayStation Move Heroes dropping this week. When six of PlayStation‘s iconic heroes team up to take on evil, the fanboy in me can get into a wired up tizzy. Especially when Ratchet and Jak are on the box cover with a giant PlayStation Move sticker to sweeten up the deal.

A raider of tombs, receives her own remastering in high definition on Blu-Ray this week with Tomb Raider Legends and Tomb Raider Anniversary dawn a polygonal refresh. Toss in a ton of extras and Tomb Raider Underworld, and you’ve got yourself a PlayStation collection ripe with content.

The PlayStation Network brings a wealth of titles and demos as well, continuing the trend each and every week of mammoth releases. This week’s The Drop promises to entice and please your gaming taste-buds.

PlayStation Move

PlayStation Move Heroes — Together for the first time, PlayStation’s legendary heroes Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly and Bentley, ban together to defeat a villainous duo in this wildly humorous adventure for the PlayStation Move. By using the PlayStation Move motion controller and The PlayStation Move navigation controller, players now have the unique experience of becoming one of their favorite PlayStation characters as they control their every move throughout the game. Players will smash, hurl and shoot their way through imaginative puzzles and challenges as the heroes team up against their new enemies.

A mysterious and evil force has crept into the galaxy, maliciously steeling entire cities and environments from Ratchet, Jak and Sly’s worlds. Stopping at nothing, this fiendish enemy enslaves a race of peaceful space creatures and puts the entire galaxy in harm’s way. Our loveable and fearless heroes find themselves joined together in the ultimate battle to protect the galaxy and in the fight for their own survival.

PlayStation 3

Crysis 2 — (Stereoscopic 3D) Whether played in 3D or standard 2D, Crysis 2 drops players into a devastated New York in the midst of an attack by a frightening alien species. The alien enemies are armed with deadly weaponry and exceptional sensory abilities that test players’ skill and push them to the limit. These terrifying invaders stalk the streets of New York, leaving the streets in chaos and the skyline in flaming ruin.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars — LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars includes all the characters from both seasons of the hugely popular animated television series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as some fan-favourite characters from the beloved theatrical Star Wars Saga. Tomb Raider Trilogy — Exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, this triple-pack of Lara Croft adventures includes Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary — both newly remastered in HD quality — as well as Tomb Raider Underworld, previously released on PlayStation 3. A number of items were also created exclusively for this pack, including a Tomb Raider Trilogy PlayStation 3 theme pack, the official Lara Croft female Home avatar outfit, the Viking Thrall male Home avatar outfit and a collection of “making of” trailers in HD for the entire series.

Dynasty Warrior 7 (Stereoscopic 3D) — Based on the epic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the genre-defining Dynasty Warriors series depicts the massive battles ignited by the fall of the Han Dynasty when three rebellious states moved to overthrow the Emperor of China. Incredible might and power of warriors is born again in this seventh chapter of the dynasties with Shu, Wei, Wu and the new Kingdom of Jin, the state that superseded the Three Kingdoms period. Dynasty Warriors 7 will embrace new technology with full stereoscopic 3D.

Mayhem 3D — Mayhem is a fast paced arcade racing and car destruction game. The inspiration for the game comes from two distinct types of events: Demolition Derby and Banger Racing.

PlayStation Network

DC Universe Online — A massively-multiplayer experience, DC Universe Online brings high-energy action to the forefront with a combat system designed to deliver a fast-paced action experience with the extraordinary powers of your personally created heroes and villains at your disposal. Battle with or against their favorite DC Super Heroes and Villains including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker. For the very first time, players and fans will be able to enter this fabled world as an active force for good or evil.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime — Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a four player, ghost-busting adventure that will take players on a brand new paranormal experience. Gamers will suit up with their proton packs and assume the role of a rookie hired by the Ghostbusters to save New York City from a disaster of ghoulish proportions.

Swarm — Swarm lets the player take control of 50 utterly fearless Swarmites and drive them through an intense, entertaining and often suicidal battle for a greater good. Run, bash, huddle, boost, stack, jump, push and throw your way through gauntlets of death and destruction in an attempt to collect valuable DNA and ensure that at least one Swarmite survives. With a unique combination of mass character control and fast action, the resulting brutal aftermath will make players want to play Swarm over and over again.

Battle: Los Angeles — Battle: Los Angeles gives players the opportunity to relive the thrill of the movie as they fight alongside characters from the film to defend the city of Los Angeles from attacks from unknown forces in fast and frantic first-person shooter gameplay. PSone Classics

Legend of Mana — The world of Fa’Diel is a formless mass. It is up to you to create the world, using artifacts that are spread throughout the world. At the beginning of the game, the player must choose a female or male character, a starting weapon, and place to start. Once in the starting area, the player will be able to complete a small quest and find more artifacts. With that done, the new artifacts can be placed on the map to create new areas that have their own unique mini-quests. There is a total of 60 quests and artifacts to discover. The best way to think of all of the stories is to consider them the songs on a record. Individually, they are great; however, when combined they make up something much larger. The world of Fa’Diel will become what you make it in Legend of Mana.

[Editor’s Note: The following dates are subject to change. Game details are gathered from Press Releases from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions.]

  • Why no motorstorm demo? too early?

  • getting heroes, crysis, lego, and swarm. expensive but fun week. try to give just 2 dollars if you can to japan this week. 2 dollars times a thosand people equals a lot of soup for people in the dead of winter with all their posessions destroyed. peace.

  • Tomb Raider, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, and Ghostbusters for me!

  • just a heads up since you guys were looking for bugs on the sites new layout, this article appears as it was posted on march 18 on the Top Story area.

  • hey delta-

gamestop emailed me a code for the demo. you can also download it off the european store.

  • Another really good drop this week. Ghostbusters is tempting, a few interesting demos and another stellar PSOne release.

  • Legend of Mana? Blahhh…was hoping for Parasite Eve 2 instead. LoM is boring.

Also lol @ some people. Complaining that games are 9.99 instead of 5.99…WOWWWWWW 4 DOLLARS MAN…THATS A LOT OF MONEY!

Anyone else notice something fishy. XD

  • Hi Rey

I love the drop every week (it makes my week seem that much brighter know what is coming). I am not sure but I think some of the descriptions are wrong i.e. DC Universe, Battle: LA and I think I heard (but would love confirmation if you can and know) is PlayStation Move Heroes dropping on the PSN (i.e. the same as Mass Effect 2 did with both retail and digital release). I am pretty sure there is a demo coming for it for Plus (1 hour) but I would really love to purchase the game online (I am all digital now and love it but do still rent games). Thanks for these answers Rey and keep up the great work at Sony and have a great week.

  • I never quite understood what’s Also on PSN

Is there an error on this?
Battle: Los Angeles — As homage to the legacy of Konami’s run-and-gun games, Hard Corps: Uprising brings an exciting new look to a traditionally retro genre, all the while keeping with the frenetic gameplay that defines the shooter category. The game follows the soldier Bahamut as he begins to rise in strength and write his legend. Multiple game modes allow seasoned pros to show off their skills and enable genre neophytes to reach victory.

  • I love this steady string of PS1 RPGs. Keep it up and I’ll keep buying them.

  • Killer week for me. Getting DYNASTY WARRIORS 7, TOMB RAIDER: TRILOGY and GHOSTBUSTERS:SANCTUM OF SLIME. Might even spring for LEGEND OF MANA, although I played it plenty back in the PS1 days.

Im suprised to see that the MOTORSTORM: APOCALYPSE isn’t up for the public yet. I got my gamestop demo codes (They sent me more than one) last weekend and have been playing it since the 14th. You’ll probably see that question alot. I also read that peoples codes weren’t working, mine did. But Im wondering if they are still having that problem

    **PROUD PS+ MEMBER**

  • Seems they made a few errors. Put MLB 2k11 info in wrong place and also Hard Corps info doesn’t belong. Hopefully they messed up and meant to put Parasite Eve 2 is coming out instead of Legend of Crapmana.

  • I was thrilled last week when I heard from SQ’s newsletter that Legend of Mana was coming to PSN!! Especially since I sold my physical copy for too much money a few years ago. Yay for things working out!!

  • Not to rain on anybody’s parade, but Dynasty Warriors 7 was unfortunately pushed back a week to the 29th. :(
On the other hand, Dissidia 012 on PSN! :D

  • Hopefully Parasite Eve 2 will follow next week. Just beat PE and would love to keep on trucking on to the second game (even if it’s not as good as the first). Will buy Day One when it comes out. :)

  • Maybe Playstation Move Heroes!

  • Can you put Add-ons to the list?

    • Ad-Ons and other content can be found on the PSN Store post which goes live every Tuesday afternoon.

  • OMG OMG OMG OMG

    LEGEND OF MANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OMG OMG OMG OMG

    :D :D :D :D :D

  • How much for ghostbusters? $14.99 ?

  • how bout lets see some casper the game or space jam. or some of the old metal gear games that were only for regular nintendo.

  • I have my copy of PS Move Heroes pre-ordered from Amazon. Please don’t disappoint!

  • God that Tomb Raider cover art is so eye-burny.

  • Also, with all of these Square classics making it to PSN, it is making me clamor more and more for the Sony RPG Legend of Dragoon. Make it happen Sony!

  • Tomb Raider Trilogy for me.

Maybe Swarm with the + discount and all. Thankfully there’s a demo.

  • PSone classics needed:

    Die Hard Trilogy
    MDK
    Soul Blade
    Return Fire
    Tenchu
    Philosoma
    Loaded

  • Rey, is there any difference between TR underworld in the HD collection, and the TR underworld currently on the store?

…and are you 100% sure about dissidia 012 for on PSN? (not to be confused with last week’s pay demo) because last i heard square ennix were looking like they were going to make it UMD only like 3rd Birthday.

  • i am pleasantly surprised by the ps1 release – legend of mana is fantastic and i urge everyone to get it.

  • Legend of Mana pleases me. I make my leave.

  • I thought the Splinter Cell Trilogy was suppose to come out this week. What Happened?

  • Cool to see another great PSone Classic is put up there, you’ve been spoiling us with those lately, keep it up eh? It seems like in another month Square’s whole PSX library will be online for use to enjoy. Too bad they take so long to beat, there’s not enough time in the week to finish one by the time the next one is released!

  • Dissidia 012 was released on PSN in Japan, and was confirmed by Square Enix USA to be coming to PSN here. No need to worry.

On the otherhand, Namco Bandai’s crummy tactics once again. No Naruto game.

But what’s up with LEGO Star Wars? Aren’t the older ones on PSN? I know there’s a stack of Star Wars games on there.

  • Dissidia 012 is getting a PSN Release after all. Very good news. I plan to buy that in the future. (Not right away, as I pre-ordered from GameStop).

Also, heck yes for the continuing Square PS One Classics. Keep up this trend for Threads of Fate and Parasite Eve II for the next couple weeks.

  • Will be picking up Dissidia this week and I think that’s about it, unless a sale or something catches me by surprise on PSN.

  • Ray, any idea when the blog will be fixed for the google chrome browser?

  • Not getting anything this week. Crysis 2 on a console is trash, Dynasty Warriors is played out, Tomb Raider Trilogy is a cash grab for sub-excellence titles, PS Move Heroes might be shoddy, and Legend of Mana/ Dissidia aren’t my style.

Eagerly awaiting next week for The 3rd Birthday and seeing whatever Square game is next for PSone Classics.

  • i dont get it.

if Dissidia 012 is going on PSN why the hell didn’t we get any response from SE when we asked so many times here the blog?

i remember the last few Disssidia updates ever other comment was like:

Me: “is it gona be on psn?”

next dude: “is it gona be on psn?”

some girl: “is it gona be on psn?”

square enix fanboi: “is it gona be on psn?”

random guy: “is it gona be on psn?”

old gamer: “is it gona be on psn?”

noob kid: “is it gona be on psn?”

….and like there wasn’t ONE answer! same thing on EU blog as well.

So i wonder how close to April 1 we are, or did Rey get confused or mess up here. either way, if u dont wanna be disappointed, i would believe it until u see it on psn with your own eyes O_O

  • Will we get the pre-order alternate costumes for Dissidia 012 if we buy it on the PSN??

  • And can i edit my comments after i post so ppl know what the F*** im talking about PLEASE webmaster?

  • dont know if it matters much, but that Ghostbusters image is from the game from Ghostbusters: The Video Game, not from sanctum of slime

  • Yet another futile request for Legend of Dragoon on PSN, please.

  • Diggin’ the new Drop design, very snazzy, very cool.
Thinking bout picking up PS Move Heroes. What’s the price? $39.99?
Forgot about the Tomb Raider Collection! Aw geez, all the good stuff right when I’m low on memory…

  • Erm.. Dynasty Warriors 7 doesn’t release this week, it was pushed back to the 29th. Might want to update your blog thingie here.

  • Mana is a must buy! Looking forward to playing the wwe all stars demo too.

  • Cool stuff coming;)
+ I wish ‘PlayStation Move Heroes’ was also ‘PlayStation DS3 Heroes’ :D i.e i could play it with a Dual Shock 3 pad.

  • mmmm interesting set of games.

legend of mana sounds like fun. will wait and purchase it for a rainy couple of days since i have a hard time going back to playing ps1 games lately.

the ghostbusters one sounds like fun but i will wait for the reviews and go back and play the first one that came out a couple years back

heroes on the move looks amazing but im not going to drop 100 dollars to get the move for one game. will wait for a few more to come out for the move that i want first.

finally tomb raider. oh ya 3 games for 40? yup thats good in my book. will get that once i get some money rounded up. :)

everything all said. thanks sony for the great update.
