SOCOM 4: Killzone 3 Promo Code Beta Schedule – 3/29 to 4/4

Jeremy Dunham's Avatar + Posted by Jeremy Dunham on Mar 28, 2011 // Sr. Community Manager, Zipper Interactive

SOCOM 4: Abandoned

The SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs testing pool is about to get even bigger! Starting tomorrow, at 12:00am Pacific, the SOCOM 4 voucher codes that were included as giveaways with Killzone 3 (and at our PAX East 2011 booth) become active. This new influx of players will join the existing crowd of previously introduced PlayStation Plus and Private beta testers, and will have all the same privileges as the one-week and two-week vets.

If you didn’t receive an early access voucher or don’t have a PlayStation Plus account, don’t fret! Starting April 5th, the all-access beta will be openly available for download through the PlayStation Store. While the beta download will be removed from the Store with the April 12th PlayStation Store publish, SOCOM 4 Beta servers will be up and running until April 13th.

Though our servers are open all day, every day we do limit what modes are available so that we can keep our testing focused. Here’s how the schedule looks this week:

  • Tuesday (3/29) – Uplink, Classic Uplink, Suppression, Classic Suppression
  • Wednesday (3/30) – Last Defense, Classic Last Defense, Uplink, Classic Uplink
  • Thursday (3/31) – Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad, Last Defense, Classic Last Defense
  • Friday (4/1) – Sniper Alley (Custom), Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom), Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad
  • Saturday (4/2) – Scrum (Classic), Sniper Alley (Custom), Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom)
  • Sunday (4/3) – Suppression, Classic Suppression, Scrum (Custom)
  • Monday (4/4) – Uplink, Classic Uplink, Suppression, Classic Suppression

As always, our multiplayer beta includes two maps, Port Authority and Assault & Battery, and offers a variety of built-in game-types and custom game-types. Here’s a reminder of what’s what:

Suppression: SOCOM 4’s version of “team deathmatch.”

Last Defense: Capture controls points, discover the enemy base and destroy it.

Uplink: Steal enemy data and deliver it to your base.

Bomb Squad: Defend your bomb technician while he disarms enemy explosives.

Sniper Alley (Custom): An 8 vs. 8 version of Classic Suppression with higher damage. Weapons are limited to sniper rifles, shotguns, smoke grenades and poison gas.

Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom): Faster movement speed and reduced damage are applied to 16 vs. 16 Last Defense with weapons restricted to only shotguns and SMGs.

Scrum (Custom): Suppression is given rule tweaks of no respawn, faster movement and higher damage, while sniper rifles, frag grenades, concussion grenades and poison gas are disallowed.

As seen in the schedule above, all built-in game-types (i.e. anything not listed as “Custom”) are playable in both the Standard and Classic variations. Standard mode is similar to the single-player experience, while Classic mode is similar to older SOCOM titles with increased movement speeds, round-based play, no player respawns and the lack of health regeneration. Our Custom types mix and match a number of game settings, delivering fresh takes on our core rule sets.

As before, after you’ve had a chance to play the beta, we’d love to hear your feedback! Once you’ve downloaded the beta and played a complete match, you’ll then gain access to our private beta forums on SOCOM.com where you can share your stories with other players and leave us your feedback. SOCOM has always been a very player-driven franchise and your opinions are very important to us, so please let us know what you think! We’ll see you again next week on the SOCOM blog with an updated schedule, or you can keep updated on our latest agenda through our in-game news feed.

You guys are funny been playing the beta since 3/15 so much for my kz3 beta code hell would have frozen over if i wait this long to play this.why zipper didn’t just go ahead and make mag 2? having mag gameplay in a 3rd person shooter just dont work. those map designs would have been great in mag 2 too bad all that going to waste.

Nope, your first code was enough. You can always give your Killzone code to a friend or family member

It’s about freaking time. Poor decisions on the part of Sony to not allow KZ3 purchasers to get into this before tomorrow. Shouldn’t have included it in the box if they were going to hold out this long on people. Doubt I’ll buy this one due to the lack of appreciation shown to the KZ3 purchasing community. PS+ members shouldn’t have had earlier access.

I’m so disappointed with SOCOM: Special Needs, as it is called in the EU. Being a veteran from the S1 beta who loved it, and S2, and hated S3, as many of us do, the SOCOM Community has been clamouring for a game to thrill us like S2 did back in the day. Nothing has since and I feel Zipper have dropped the ball by not listening to the fans.

I’ve been fairly vocal about why S2 was so great here:
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/SOCOM-HQ/Why-SOCOM-2/td-p/12643789
and here:
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/SOCOM-HQ/Sad-excuse-for-a-Socom-game/td-p/12647182

Those aren’t my threads but I did contribute, and I hope I have voiced my opinions fairly well and reasonably.

I don’t think SOCOM:SN is a bad game, it’s just not the game veterans of S2 have been praying for. There’s a gap in the market for an HD SOCOM 2-like game, and I can’t believe nobody has filled it yet.

If nothing else, SOCOM needs regionalised lobbies if the community is to be anything close to what it was back in the day. Please listen to us, we only have love for what SOCOM 2 did to and for us!

I’m sorry, I meant SOCOM: Special Forces, I said that once for a joke and now I can’t stop doing it, D’OH!

By the way, I should mention that I just bought MAG and I can’t believe nobody hammered home how good it is before! I have come late to the party, but well done on MAG, it’s a top FPS.

Now, please give us S2 in HD ;)

To all of you who say that PS Plus subscribers shouldn’t have got early access, you’re crazy. You think buying a AAA title that you were going to buy anyway is something special. This is the way it is guys. It’s not the first and it won’t be the last time PS Plus members get something you don’t. Have you backed up your game saves on the cloud server yet? I have. Have you come home and turned on your PS3 to see that a huge annoying patch has already been downloaded for you? I have. If it’s not worth it to you now, it will be soon so don’t get mad every time this happens. I dropped the fee just because Sony is awesome. I should get everything before you. Don’t rush to join though, once everyone joins they will probably stop handing out such cool stuff.

Disappointed that those who spent $60 get the beta code just about last. Nonetheless the beta is only sub-par.

This game is terrible. Worse then the last one. Pretty much all the fans of Socom hate this new one. You guys wont even sale half a million, and if you do, half of those will be traded in. The Socom series is dead. Give up on it already. The same with MAG.

Hey Zipper in general, just give up on military shooters. Your games suck.

What happened to negative criticism without actually being hateful and disrespectful to people? If you don’t enjoy a game you should point out the flaws and leave feedback, but their is absolutely no reason to sit their and bash a developer on the games they make and how much you think its garbage. The internet has brought a new breed of gamers and people to this hobby. Games and company’s loose sales because fanboy gamers or arrogant people think a game is garbage, those gamers then post negative comments everywhere gamers browse looking for news (Such as this blog). After reading so many bad comments about something people tend to shy away from something based on a select fews opinions. This is bad for business, and I wish people would grow up.

Speak your mind, but without the hateful intent.

+ gunslinger on March 29th, 2011 at 5:58 am said:

A 3rd-person shooter?! WHY??? The only 3rd-person “shooter” worth playing is the Uncharted series. I’ll give the beta a try, hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised. MAG was vastly underrated & under-appreciated. KZ3 is rather disappointing, especially the online (tired of getting killed by invisible people w/assault rifles!!), so definitely looking for something new to play.

+ L3P463JR on March 29th, 2011 at 6:31 am said:

Tried playing this a couple of times and couldn’t do anything. The third person view was terrible and the player movement felt very constricted and tough to maneuver. There were many in there doing very good and having fun so to each is own I guess. I’m just so used to to quick play with COD.

I personally like it, not enough to buy at launch, but it’s pretty good. Maybe I will wait for it to go to greatest hits. Not sure why there are so many MAG comments in this blog but MAG was awful, get over it.

EveryBody complaining and crying about this game. shut the hell up. If you dont like it keep it to yourself, if you think they fkd up again then still keep it to yourself. MAG wasnt that great either was socom confrontation(slant six creators). But nobody gives a damn. And some of you idiots want it to be like s2 ??????????? are you retarted the game was good yes but its swarmed with glitches and codes. LMAO obviously thats why your crying to have it remade because your a clown that sucks at it and needs to cheat. Sorry the CODE 9 ERA is over you low life nerds with nothing else but time on your hands to try and cheat to achive what ? video game glory LMFAO.

Keep up the work Zipper, i havent really played the beta but twice at my cousins, i dont have a code for it but oh well such as life, i have a FT job, 2y/o daughter, and college mon-thurs. I already pre-ordered s4, but kinda hoping this beta for all the public comes sooner then later.

I haven’t had the chance to try out the beta yet, but I downloaded it as soon as PS+ put it up. I didn’t really know where to post this, but is there some kind of mistake with the + update this week? 3 of the 4 new free games have already been made available before and not very long ago. I’m a day one subscriber and I’m very upset with the update. Especially after last months disappointing Sonic the Hedgehog download. Sure it brought new trophies, but it was still a $5 game and one that has been available forever in Sega’s stellar Genesis collection. Anyway, I’m still happy with ps +, but repeated giveaways are not cool and especially not after the short span of time that it has been since they were the featured downloads.
