Kratos vs Mortal Kombat: Ed Boon and Stig Talk Fatalities, Weapons, Ending

+ Posted by Sid Shuman

Store-Post-Lead

“The first time we saw him we thought, ‘Oh my God, what a great Mortal Kombat character he would make.’”

Ed Boon is very excited. The Mortal Kombat creative director and co-creator can finally spill his guts regarding one of the most anticipated video-game crossovers of all time: Kratos’ exclusive guest appearance in the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat. “We kind of felt it was meant to happen,” he says. “We think we’ve done Kratos justice.”

Ed Boon and God of War III director Stig Asmussen don’t remember who made the first phone call, but both recall the Kratos crossover talks starting early in Mortal Kombat’s development cycle. “I remember somebody saying, ‘‘hey, there might be this possibility of Kratos appearing in Mortal Kombat,’” Stig remembers. “I said, ‘ You gotta be kidding me, we gotta make this happen! Let’s get on the phone.’”

GT Academy Announces 16 Finalists

+ Posted by Anthony Crouts

GT5

It was truly a race to the finish as the two-day long GT Academy Nationals Finals Event comes to a close. The top 32 players, eight players from four regions across the U.S., all flew in to compete in this week’s National Finals Event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Disney World Resort.

The top 16 will now prepare for a trip to England for the next phase of GT Academy, to be held at the Silverstone racing circuit in the U.K. this summer. Participants will join an intense, week-long racing camp where they will be judged by an expert panel of racing professionals, rating each competitor’s skills, performance, and overall aptitude for the requirements of a professional racer. The person who is judged to have the most natural talent and potential to succeed as a professional race car driver will be crowned as the first GT Academy winner in the U.S. After that, he will start down the grueling path to train, obtain a racing license, and make his big debut behind the wheel in a major endurance race.

Neil Gaiman’s renowned comic Sandman continues with issue #27. In this penultimate issue of the “Season of Mists” storyline, the decision concerning Hell’s new ownership falls to an unlikely heir while Morpheus attends to an unruly guest in his realm…

In the must-try, one of a kind series Kill Shakespeare, the celebrated author’s world is transported to comics with unexpected twists and surprises. SOCOM 4’s Bomb Squad and a Chance to Win Your Way Into the Beta Today

+ Posted by Jeff Rubenstein

socom 4 beta

I hope you PlayStation Plus members and Qore subscribers are enjoying the SOCOM 4 beta. One of the more creative multiplayer modes found in the beta (and the final game, of course) is Bomb Squad. With only one player able to defuse the mode’s eponymous explosives, things can get hectic – especially when that player is a heavily armored (and heavily armed) badass.

In the video, Zipper Interactive’s Seth Luisi shares some of the nuances of the new Bomb Squad mode, and how the multiplayer beta will help make the finished product that much better:

Not a member of PlayStation Plus? We’ve got you covered. We’ve secured a secret cache of 150 SOCOM 4 beta codes that we’ll give away on Twitter today at 3:00pm Pacific Time / 6:00pm Eastern Time. Follow PlayStation’s Twitter now and keep your eyes peeled for full details.

Takashi Tokita Talks Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection, RPGs

+ Posted by Sid Shuman

ffiv

Takashi Tokita is a name well respected among Square Enix fans, having helmed classic RPGs from Parasite Eve (newly resurrected for PSN) to Chrono Trigger. Now he’s overseeing the restoration of one of the earliest games of his career with Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection, coming to PSP on April 19th.

On the cusp of Final Fantasy IV’s 20-year anniversary, Tokita explained his goals for Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection. The basic expectations are well and truly met: You’ll get remastered high-res artwork that takes full advantage of the PSP’s widescreen display, eye-catching new 3D special effects, an updated English translation, and two soundtrack options. Also, for the first time in North America, FFIV will be presented in its pure, uncensored form, which will primarily translate to a few skimpier outfits and a handful of mature references omitted from previous releases. What won’t change is the story, which focuses on dark knight Cecil Harvey’s quest for redemption after years of bloody service under a totalitarian king.
