It’s been nearly a week since we’ve debuted our redesign, and I hope you’re enjoying the new look of PlayStation.Blog. We’re working on hammering out a few bugs, but for the most part, it seems the changes have gone over relatively well.
Know that we’ll be continuing to monitor what’s working and what’s not, and will continue to iterate the experience as best we can.
On a somewhat related not, you can now find this post – in progress – any day of the week. Find the What We Read section in the scrolling red boxes on the front page to see the list of links as we add them throughout the week.
Or add our own links to the discussion via the comments below. Thanks!

The weather is dreadful in San Francisco, making this a perfect weekend to put a dent in my gaming “stack of shame” after three long but fulfilling weeks of GDC, PAX East, and SXSW (not to mention the launch of the new-look PlayStation.Blog). Top priorities this weekend include finishing Batman: Arkham Asylum (I know, I know!), BulletStorm, and with any luck, Red Dead Redemption. Wish me luck!
- I’m playing: Mortal Kombat II, Slam Bolt Scrappers, Mortal Kombat PSN demo
- I’m watching: Slam Bolt Scrappers: The Strange Rise of Fire Hose Games, Mortal Kombat’s Latest Challenger Revealed: Kabal
- I’m reading: Fragment: A Novel by Warren Fahy
Sports gamers, MLB 11 The Show has taken sports gaming to the next level, and next level gaming demands next-level trash talk. As you know, features like PlayStation Move compatibility, co-op play and Pure Control only heighten the importance of trash talk in The Show. Lucky for you, Kevin Butler is here to help raise your trash talk game. He has been kind enough to enlighten all of us with his groundbreaking 5 step SHAFT-talking program which gives tongue-tied schlubs everywhere the mental advantage they need to make it in The Show. Check out his introduction to the SHAFT method below, and be sure to check out each SHAFT method video here.
MLB 11 The Show is in stores now so if you haven’t yet, be sure to pick up your copy today and get SHAFTing!
We weren’t really sure what to expect at South by Southwest. Sure, we knew the BBQ would be plentiful and delicious (and it was), but we also knew that with dozens of open parties per night and hundreds of bands playing across the downtown area, that there’d be plenty of competition for attention.
Fortunately, Austin was filled with PlayStation fans. From the time crews began setting up the PlayStation Lounge on the corner of 2nd and Trinity, people started poking their heads in, wondering when we were going to open. Even TV crews stopped by to see what we were building. The end result was a custom branded PlayStation shrine, complete with an attention-grabbing rooftop LED jumbotron.
When we finally opened the doors Thursday, both SXSW attendees and local Austinites streamed in to play Resistance 3, SOCOM 4, Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, and see UNCHARTED 3 demoed in 3D.

It’s been over a week since the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, inflicting serious loss of life and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. The Japanese people, together with support and compassion from the global community, are beginning what will be a long recovery process.
Sony Computer Entertainment’s headquarters are located in Tokyo, and so we’ve heard firsthand of the disaster’s impact from our colleagues and friends. As we here in America watch the tragic events that continue to unfold, you might be left thinking, “Is there any way I can help?”
Sony Group is aiding the recovery through financial contributions and donations of radios, batteries and other equipment that can be used in the relief efforts. Today we’re making it possible for you to contribute directly to the earthquake and tsunami recovery efforts through a medium you’re already quite familiar with – the PlayStation Network.

Similar to news already issued from our Japanese and European territories, SCEA can confirm that we are officially delaying release of MotorStorm Apocalypse from its scheduled April 12th date. We will provide more information regarding release timing at a later date.
To our American and Canadian cousins, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is kind of the British equivalent of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which organises the Academy Awards, otherwise known as The Oscars.
Heavy Rain won the awards for technical innovation, original music and best story, while God of War III collected the gong for artistic achievement. I had a chat with Heavy Rain’s writer and director David Cage about what these awards mean and what Quantic Dream has planned for the future.
“I’m very proud to have collected three awards. We came here with no expectations and I’m proud for my team who all worked so hard during those three years of development.”
Since our January LittleBigPlanet 2 release, there are more and more awesome LBP2 levels being uploaded every day, so many in fact that we’re getting very close to a fantastic milestone, which we’ll hopefully be able to share details on very soon. Until then, a big thank you to all of the creators out there – great work!
This week though, we wanted to give you all a sneak peak at some of the DLC planned for LittleBigPlanet 2 over the next few months. As all of the loyal original LittleBigPlanet players will remember, we always like to ensure that there is plenty of new content to freshen up your creations or just keep your Sackboy looking sharp. For starters, be sure to pick up your free St. Patrick’s Day costume from the PlayStation Store this week. It’s Sackboy’s yearly chance to show his Irish spirit – you wouldn’t want to deprive him of that, would you?
