Redesigning Ratchet: Get Your Skin in Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

The last few weeks have been full of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One goodness! Between the PTOM April Issue, the Insomniac Community Day and recent reveals at the Media Event in Los Angeles, we’ve shown you that this is going to be full of everything our fans have come to love about the series.

Speaking of fans, we’re proud to continue the tradition of giving the community a chance to get in the game by announcing the Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One Skin Design Contest!

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 OneRatchet & Clank: All 4 One

From April 18th to April 29th, 2011, Insomniac Games is giving you the chance to redesign Ratchet & Clank with your very own skin that they’ll pretty up and integrate into the game itself.

What about Qwark and Nefarious? Just check the EU PlayStation.Blog, where we’re giving our European fans the opportunity to jump in and submit their own designs as well. The entire skin pack will be made available as we get closer to the game release this Fall 2011.

To enter, simply head over to www.ratchetandclank.com and click on the contest banner. Download the coloring book style template for Ratchet & Clank, paint them up and submit them by the deadline! A panel of judges from Insomniac Games will choose winning entries for each character, which we’ll reveal in May.

In addition to getting their designs into the game, two first prize winners will receive a trip for 2 to Comic-Con International 2011 in San Diego, California. The trip prize package will include round trip coach class air transportation to San Diego, California, up to four nights of hotel accommodations, general entry tickets to Comic-Con International 2011, $500.00 spending money, and a custom set of DualShock 3 controllers! We’ll also have some awesome prizes for submissions that come in as runner up.

Terms and conditions apply – visit the contest page for more info. We’re excited to see what you come up with and give some cool prizes away!

Keep an eye out on the PlayStation.Blog as we announce even more info in the coming weeks. For more information on Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, including the latest trailers, go here. • No Canada :(

But I can’t wait to see the submissions!

  • I AM SO DOING THIS!!!

  • Holy awesome, this is awesome!

  • Thanks for the contest!!!

  • Why is the ratchetandclank website acting up? Everything is messed up.

  • Yea, I can’t get it either :( I’m sure they’ll sort it out soon enough.

  • “e. Paint, color, and decorate the character template. Design your own original costumes and skins for each character.”

So how would we design our own costumes? Would we paint over the template? Are we allowed to go outside the boundaries of the template? Are we allowed to alternate the template that was given to us?

    • Paint over the template. You’re more than welcome to go outside the template, just don’t change the shape of the characters. So, feel free to give Ratchet a hat for example, but don’t make his head bigger =)

  • D-Squad3 – Here’s the contest site: http://www.ratchetandclank.com/en_US/contest/

  • I’m wondering the same thing as D-Squad. How strictly do we have to stick to the template? Is it just a recolor type deal or can we actually toy with the design of the template? I assume it’s the former but clarification would be nice.

  • Ehh… I’d enter this, but the last contest with the “design your own weapon” for A Crack In Time left a bad taste in my mouth.

I spent hours working on a concept and design for a weapon, submitted it, all my friends went nuts thinking it was professionally done, and then I ended up not even making it to the finals, yet some guy made it to the top 5 by entering an image he found on Google with a one sentence description. There were many other people who also did just as much work as I did, and some who did far more, and they weren’t even mentioned.

These contests don’t really honor those who put in hard work, they only choose the easiest ones to put in the game.

Basically, use mspaint to color him a solid color and you have a good chance of winning.

  • I followed the link, but there’s only a large image of Ratchet, Clank, Quark, and Nefarious fighting off robots which doesn’t link to anything else.

  • So I saw on the rules under step 4 part “F” it says to scan the templates after they’re complete. I assume we can’t use computer art programs like Paint, Photo shop, or any other of those programs? Do the templates have to be printed out and colored on paper?

    • No, you can either color digitally or by hand. Whichever you prefer. In either case, we need a digital submission.

  • Thank you. :)

It also might have been because the AdBlock Plus extension on Firefox was conflicting with something and causing problems.

Also, one more thing. In our English 102 class we are writing research papers about our “dream jobs,” and this requires contacting someone in our field of interest. I’ve always wanted to work for a video game developer, specifically as a 3d modeler/animator. So, would it be alright if I emailed someone at Insomniac with a short list of questions about what I would have to do? Thanks for reading!

  • I wish the templates were just UV unwraps. :P

  • Ok thanks for clearing that up Cristian. seemed pretty obvious, but just wanted to make sure.

  • i cant find this i need help plsss

  • kann hier jemand deutsch?

    • We’ll actually have an announcement very soon regarding European entries. Keep an eye out on the SCEE blog tomorrow =)

  • Ok, the rules say that we are allowed to submit one for Ratchet and another for Clank, are we suppose to combine both of the templates into one image because it says “If you enter more than 1 entry, all entries must be submitted on the same entry form. Subsequent entries will be disqualified.”

    • Only subsequent entries of the same character will be disqualified. You can submit them separately.

  • I need help. I’m on the page but not find the button where it is. I have to go community?

  • On the OFFICIAL RULES it said it l be judged on 50% creativity and 50% technical feasibility, what is technical feasibility? And can you add something on the character

    • It just means that the team will need to be able to implement the idea into the game engine in a timely manner. You can add something to the costume, but you can’t modify the way the character looks. Make sense?

  • Aww… no UK u_u – I would’ve loved to do this!

I remember when there was a contest to design a weapon for Crack In Time :3

  • Europe will be in but not Canada? Show us some Love and include Canada for the North American Contest.

  • Awesome contest. Can’t wait to see what others come up with!.

  • Awesome!!! Im totally entering……:P
So can we draw…..lets say circle patterns on ratchet’s pants right??

  • I just finished! i spent a fair amount of time on it, and have to say that i think i have outdone myself… whether that means i will win or not, well. thats another story :P

  • no canada again? might as well stop selling ps3’s in canada. Im jumping ships as im sick and tired of missing out on these things regularly. Gonna support a company whose cares about canadians. Microsoft atleast cares for canada
