Update On PlayStation Network/Qriocity Services

Patrick Seybold's Avatar + Posted by Patrick Seybold on Apr 22, 2011 // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

Freaking Anonymous. This isn’t hurting Sony, it’s hurting the people that want to play games online.

I’d say you could get the word out quite a bit faster using twitter. Thanks for the update. Almost finished with portal 2 SP so hopefully when I get up tomorrow it’ll be fixed so I can start some co-op. Any chance we can get an updated timeframe?

Really? I thought Amazon’s EC2 services was the culprit. But then again why would Sony rely on Amazon for such things. Anyway, PSN better come up soon…please!

An external intrusion. In addition to promptly getting service up and running again, are you also taking measures to ensure that this does not become a constant problem for your customers?

Probably Amazon’s fault. giant Bomb is still down as well. :(

Good luck guys. I just hope you all can figure something out quickly. I got Mortal Kombat and was so hyped to play with some friends across the country… And, well, I’m sure you can see why that’s impossible.

Thanks for stating what the problem is!

I really hope that people who play/own DC Universe, or other pay2play games get some compensation for all the days they lost to play because of this.

Would have been kinda nice if Sony would have just been up front and honest to begin with. The user base would be a lot less upset at the company. We understand you’ve got to protect yourself and us, the users, but there’s no need to leave us floundering looking for answers.

@Unseen_Soul

9 pages? Looks more like 20 something comments, and you’ve already commented twice about people complaining. Irony? Or are you just sitting around and waiting for people to complain so you can get on a virtual soapbox?

anonymous seems to like calling people /entities hypocrites . Anonymous is the hypocrite of hypocrites that is also arrogant to boot . What makes them think that i … as an indivdual gives 2 shakes about their beliefs ? let alone … want to be affected by them . i come home from work and just want to relax and game a little , but a group of arrogant brats think that their “digital baby tantrums ” is going to change how i feel about sony . When in all actuallity anonymouses actions will just cause it to cannabalize itself . people can get over small inconvieniences , but people just CANT stand hypocrites . WAAA we are going to attack everything that we are angry at … WAAA the world doesn’t work the way things should … grow up you spoiled maggots .

Oh wow. This is their update?

So now they admit that there was a hacking incident. >_>

So it’s likely to by Anonymous or a similar group.

I did read something about how things were downloaded for free, no tax was being charged, etc etc. I guess that’s how that hacker group decided to rebel at Sony? What a bunch of idiots.

Now no one can use PSN or PS Store.

Great job…Sony, get this thing fixed now!

You’re losing a lot of business. Every hour that passes by, you’re ruining your reputation in the industry.

Just make sure you catch the individuals who did this and punish them. Hacking a website or network owned by someone else IS in fact illegal so don’t let them get away with it.

For what it’s worth Anonymous says it wasnt them, but also said it could be a few stray cats acting alone. I think they just dont want to look bad in the public eye. I still blame them for starting all this bull in the first place. What a mess.
