Update On PlayStation Network/Qriocity Services

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

  • @ Paraplegic
It’s tough with dualshock I imagine Elite is going to take quite awhile to get through. I’m going to get the sharpshooter before I try to use my move on game. Tried using dual & move combo on the beta for about ten minutes. that was just frustrating. good luck, may your aim always be on target.

  • what is this going to change? PSN will fix the bug and everyone will go back to exactly what they were doing before, nobody really cares about the user agreements. except those people who tried to jailbreak there PS3s and got their accounts suspended or deleted. Anon, your not doing crap, your being very irritating to 70 mil people. Sony is not going to change anything, there going to fix the problem you have caused us, up their security and that will be it. end of story.

  • Hey guys! First time posting in this series of PSN outage blogs – I’m feeling the pain like everyone else here and hope will be back online playing against and with each other before the end of this long weekend!

  • Anon is just annoying the people they are trying to “Help” we have rights too, we waste our money to play. Just because you don´t like what Sony did doesn’t mean you have to ruin it for everyone. If anon are “gamers” play and nothing else. Don´t complain for anything else in the system if you are buying it to PLAY

  • @McZilla Yea, I got the Sharpshooter SOCOM 4

  • can we please get updates on the progress your IT department is making? any ideas on a more accurate timeline other than “soon”?

  • @Gogo_ZvC: I get what you’re saying. I’ll probably check it out sooner or later.

  • Thanks for the update! I hope the good people at Sony plan to extend all the deals that PS+ subscribers are getting.

  • It looks like PSN in Thailand is up and running now…at least according to a GameFAQs user. So maybe there’s hope that tomorrow everything will be back…

  • I’m assuming there’s a very good reason why we PSN users aren’t getting detailed reports on exactly what is wrong and exactly what it is Sony is doing to fix it. They are probably wary of divulging information that could be used by the “external intrusion” to negate any progress Sony has made securing the network.

  • I really hope anon get 40 years in jail after all the trouble they are causing

  • Thanks for handing out my CC info Sony. Appreciate that!

  • @425: That’s a valid point, and sure there’s a level of info you don’t want divulged. But you can keep that level pretty low and still get away with it. Your last sentence is most enlightening, actually. What they need to do is not be so ‘self-reliant’. Open up a little. Who knows, you may get some help.

  • guys! calm down everything is going to be nice as smooth… no one is porfecto MS Xbox Live got hacked and borrowed down for 2 weeks and what? Sony’s IT department do what it supposed to do, to protect you Its not eve passed 2 days frame yet. Sit back be cool and wait. WE ARE PLAYSTATION NATION NOT JUST A GAMERS WE ONE BIG WORLD WIDE FAMILY! With the history that no one else has. We are stronger mature and big!

  • Come on Sony. Get it together already, its the weekend my girlfriend is at work. Yet, I can’t play Killzone or Socom online. I already finished the Killzone and Socom SP stories, for the love of God. Just give us our MP!

  • It’s been around 24 hours and no update? I was on your side in the beginning but this is getting out of hand right now. You need to restore service ASAP or provide a reasonable window to users immediately.

  • They probably hired a CEH to find holes in their security, then they need to fix those holes, then……….oh forget it.

  • It Only Does Everything Including PSNetwork Outages!!

  • I honestly don’t want a detailed report I just want a straight answer on when the servers will be back up… It’s been 3 days now and we still have no servers?

@Ramage Problem is companies seem to have problems communicating with their customers so we are always left in the dark. It’s too much to ask for a reasonable window…

  • Hey Anon, if you don’t like Sony then DON’T BUY OR USE THERE STUFF!!!!! stop messing things up for the rest of us! go buy an X-Box or a WII.

  • I’m embarrassed to own and support Sony products because of all your tards^…

  • Neeeed…. ONLINE….

  • @435 and at the same time i´m embarrassed of fanboys like you

  • @436 we all need t my friend… we all need it…

  • @435 Lol? stop complaining about us complaining, we have the right to do it. We own the product just like you, get over it

  • OK, I CANT WATCH PLAYOFF HOCKEY USING MY NHL GAMECENTER BECAUSE OF THIS OUTAGE!!! THIS IS WACK!!! THIS IS PLAYOFF HOCKEY MOTHER F-ERS!!! FIX THIS NOW!!!! I PAY A SUBSCRIPTION FOR THAT SERVICE AND YOU ARE TAKING IT AWAY FROM ME!!!

  • People who bring up the XBLA example fail to realize this occurred back in 2007-ish. 4 years time, technology improves quite a bit. And security issues and server down times should not be as bad as this.

  • I just checked to see if the PS Store was working with my PSP and it’s still not.

Sony is gong to piss off even more people now.

  • PS3 is….. A gaming console. WTH more do you want it to do?

  • @435, you flustered? Maybe i wanna be able to read the comments and expect something other then the SAME 6 PEOPLE complaining and throwing hissy fits cuz they cant find anything better to do with their lives. And i can post here and annoy the hell outa you all I want and all you can do is respond back with your fail comebacks and then probably send me a message on PSN which it’s up. GG buddy. No Re

  • Obvious troll is obvious. And what you doing with yo time brah? trolling? failing at it? sad sad…

  • im getting depressed.

  • @Unseen Soul

    We’ll get over it…somehow. Someway. :(

  • its Sunday morning now, and its not even back up yet :(

  • This is ridiculous. been waiting days for it to come back on. It would seem as if it’s never going to come back. Got SOCOM 4 Tuesday and got to play for a day or two, or so. At first it was okay, wasn’t to bad, but now, this is stupid. Chances are with Easter Sunday tomorrow we won’t see nothing happen, can we get Monday? Will it be up in time for the store update Tuesday? Really hope Playstation will make up for this in a good way. How about some new online features? Let’s see, like party chat! Been waiting forever for that one to happen. Or maybe just an online service that can’t be hijacked by hackers galore. Really hope when the PS4 comes out this kind of thing doesn’t happen.

  • atleast now i can finish mk9 story mode, and 85% of the krypt done

  • Hacking isn’t illegal it is how one uses there skills that defines it legal or illegal.
hacking is Knowledge , Knowledge is power, it is how one uses that knowledge that defines them as good or evil . It is like have a license to drive, if you chose to break the law and race, and then you kill some one in accident then I see you are jsut as guilty as some one who commits murder, you made a conscientious chose to break the law there for you should pay for it.
Sony Has made the decision to remove the Other OS, they have chosen to take from us what we paid for. HOW EVER people are using the courts to fight this battle . No harm no Fowl.

It is my understanding, that the PSN is Not under attack currently, How ever if an attack had in it a super virus, it indeed could take down an entire system. Do you not remember that super virus unleashed 1-2 years ago? Do you not remember its name? sputnex?

  • @+ Mike0804 first of all … their not going to go into EXACT detail of what was done and exactly how they are going to fix it . that would be pretty stupid from a security stand point now wouldn’t . what i would like to know though . is since they have been down much longer than anticipated and their doesnt seem to be any definite ending . would it be prudent to cancel any subscribed services like music unlimited .. i do reallize this situation isn’t sony’s fault … however it ‘s still not prudent for me as a consumer to pay money for a service that has apparently been discontinued indefinitly or for atleast a long period .

  • Let’s see what gets done first..

PSN back up and running or NGP getting released.

  • @datastorm98632
    Technically no.

Hacking of any sort usually is illegal as people hack to gain unauthorized access or information.

  • @fuzzyclutter
To the people who have paid services that use and go through PSN, I feel sorry for you guys as the hard-earned money is being wasted…about a week’s worth.

I bet Sony is just going to say they’re sorry and hope people don’t get mad. Because if people start demanding refunds of some sort, imagine what it’ll do to Sony’s profits.

    Seriously.

Probably a few million PS3 owners around the world, double that for PSP owners.

    =P

  • hacking is illegal … period . it is enforced under fcc regulations . it is called intrusion and can get you in prison just the same as creating harmful code … and that’s that .

  • *YAWN*…

Does Sony not have a clue that their PR needs to be MUCH better? It would be in their benefit to release some information to their customers, maybe even a REAL ballpark figure as to when they will get those servers back online. Having a BLOG post every 24 hour or more just doesn’t meet the needs of todays social infrastructure. They do pay people to work on this blog, they pay people to handle other important notices and updates. So, where are they all? If this was an “EMERGENCY”, they should still be working, possibly, they should be updating the MILLIONS of Playstation Network users. WOW, bad, horrible, unbelievable customer interaction.

Sony, see what happens when you start messing around? You sell something, then start disabling its features, you will upset people that paid $600 for a fat model who wants to run Linux. You then try to sue the person that was able to show people how to get back what you took away…BAM…now you have the hate of those who are willing to stand up for rights and freedoms…

  • Here is my analysis of the situation in-bundle with competitor outlooks: http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9077639

  • @ Sony
Everyone who has paid for a Playstation system who is currently not able to play with their friends is highly irritated. I believe that everyone who wishes it should have the opportunity to receive compensation and should be able to send in a complaint and promptly have a voucher returned to them that may be used to receive a (an); movie, tv show, DLC map pack, DLC game, PSH DLC, avatar, short term PS+ membership, DLC background, etc. This would be greatly appreciated and should be taken into consideration.
