  • I find it funny that people still blame Anon for this with no evidence to support it except videos that were made today. people dont realize that Anon actually pre-plans all their “protest” they usually post all their things on numerous website. which they havent done with this so called attack. Its more logical to think that the Steam-Ps3 sync is what caused the issue since that is what just came out.

Until i see actual proof like Sony admitting it was “hackers” or proof from Anon that dates before the 20th of April i wont believe its Anon.

  • Another good part about this situation. it gets rid of the annoying people on PSN that really doesn’t know what to do with them self and keeps the people that knows self control on PSN.

  • @Colt – by the way, I still have my PS3’s original box, & nowhere on it does it list OtherOS as a feature. Sorry dude, you’re out of steam there. trying (futily, I might add) to defend your ill-concieved position? Sorry, but I can back up my assertions with logic and citable facts. When you can do the same, then we’ll talk. ‘Til then, well….

  • can someone agree with me that we should get a form of compensation?

  • I do have to say.. this is not really hurting Sony, unless this is still ongoing Tuesday night.. the only people this is hurting is the co-dependent mutli-player crowd. The folks like me who mainly play single player games are still having a blast. Yeah, we can’t sink our trophies right now.. but it’s not stopping you from achieving them.. Unless your a boosting cheater.

Youngbloods, just look at this time as kind of a history lesson. This is the way it used to be..

Play some of those games you downloaded from the store that you haven’t had time to get into yet. Or pick up something new and try it out.. PSN is not going to be down forever.. but you might as well still have some “me time” while you wait.

  • No compensation needed unless you have a game like DC which requires a monthly fee. The only compensation that these folks should get are extra days. Quit whining and play some single player games. I’m taking this time to complete some of the games I have never finished.

  • @s1mpl3______j4ck – Why? why would you deserve compensation? you’re not 24/7 paying for anything at Sony so don’t be an idiot.

  • @132 -I admit that giving us some sort of freebie *WOULD* be nice (& appreciated), *BUT* I seriously don’t see that happening. Reason being? Siimpe: Sections 13 & 14 of the Terms of Service. To paraphrase, they say that if something happens (such as PSN going down or w/e), SNEA doesn’t owe you anything. Basically, they’re saying “PSN down? Toughie toenails!”

  • if sony offered you a free movie or background as a small compensation for this mess you wouldn’t take it? i think it would be a good gesture to people who enjoy the camaraderie of multiplayer and were denied that on a weekend.

  • Whoever has done this should be ashamed of themselves, they havent hurt Sony, they have hurt the gamers who use this site to play online, whoever you guys are you need to get a life, and let us enjoy our gaming.Feel for the guys at Sony, they sound as frustrated as we all are.Hope this doesnt last long.

  • but to be honest i don’t expect a corporation to give anything out for free. welcome to america

  • Go play single player and leave the poor blog alone. :P

  • I completely agree with Knightedrik. I have been with Sony since PSOne, I have seen the industry evolve in good and bad ways throughout a complete decade. PSN being down is no big deal. I’m playing the stuff I just downloaded a couple of days ago and I don’t feel the need of being online. I can sync my trophies later when PSN gets back on.

  • @ha_19-35 who says we gamers are hurt the only ones that are hurt are people that can’t even last a day or two without online play. and there now figured out that theres single player mode on the games they own. my gosh this is like the time people discovered that the PS2 was able to play online when i was working at Game Stop in 2004 (sad I know)

  • @s1mpl3 Don’t you have any other games to play. Do you just own a PS3? You just sound heartbroken over not being able to play online. It’s quite sad

  • At least netflix works. Give us a game for free we deserve it ha

  • sony gave us several free movie rentals recently . i appreciate things like that . as far as getting over it , some people ARE trapped in their houses by various infirmities , handicaps physical and mental . this makes PSN their only social outlet . so how about You get over being a jerk?

  • The thing is, as I had mentioned earlier, with PSN being down, there’s a handful of games that are (albeit temporarily) unplayable. The multiplayer-only games (i.e. – DCUO, Free Realms, Warhawk, SOCOM: Confrontation, etc.) as well as some single-player games put out by Capcom (i.e. – Final Fight: Double Impact & Bionic Commando Rearmed 2) require PSN access. In the caseof DCUO, (to a degree) Free Realms, & even Qrocity, even have a monthy fee involved.

  • This is hotz doing if only he did not release the keys to the whole world…..what a [DELETED]! Thanks george.

  • Dam hackers are pissing me off

  • PS+ user does free users sorry but free in the water and I lol at some of the comments ppl actually setting blog record on comments now its like laud chat room…

  • it freaking annoys me i can’t play online can’t check my messages or share trophies offft !!!

  • @152 – yeah, Sony did giveout free movie rentals leading up to both Holloween & Xmas, but free rentals are a rarity. The only stuff they give away for free on a regular basis is TV shows (typically pilots and/or season premiers). Why do it? Simple: it’s akin to dealing drugs in a sense. They give away a free sample w/ the hopes that you get hooked on a perticularshow, then turn around & buythe rest of the series @ regular price. I don’t see them giving away free movies (be it as a sale or a rental) on a regular basis, because it’s not profitable for them. Maybe give out rentals out on special ocaisions, such as what I pointed out before before holidays, but that’s it.

  • come on man. Should have just bought some other console. Sony respect lost

  • oh well just as I said new record lol poor tech team will be stress after hell of the pressure from the bosses
I remember when our Data center was down hell of the fight no sleep constant coffee and hands shakes 3 days no sleep coming home shoes off sit to rest for a while and you go to auto KO then wake up oh f I have to run to work 40 pages report guns blazing cops everywhere company private security chief speaks to every personal

  • @131 I think you’re reffering to the wrong poster :P

    @156 Same as well lol

Right now im playing some MK…though I want PSN back so I can BrO. (Brotherhood Online) again -_-

  • ps it me or: https://blog.eu.playstation.com/ is PSN in EU is up?

  • dudes PSN in Europe is up go to EU website

  • I still find it funny that I see people “demanding” compensation(s) for time lost. Seriously. At the very most you’ll only be getting the time back lost, but to be honest even people who pay for DCUO, or PlayStation Plus are not using those benefits everyday or playing on the console everyday. So, if you are awarded time back for this inconvenience be honestly grateful. Because, looking at numbers statistically they could deny you that time back from this debacle and they know more then ninety percent or more will stay and continue to pay for such services. Be smart; not a smart arse.

As for this whole “intrusion”. That is all it is thus far. I think the mindless nulls, and drones are bandwagoning again. If only out of blind hatred in an attempt to point the finger at “anyone” at all, and of course even the notorious and illegal group “Anonymous” is just o’ so, tempting to be just such a fall man. As an outside observer (that means “us”.) We do, not know the full story or what really happened per say. It could have been a virus, an exotic variable (error) or another unseen force or even group for those conspiricy theorist. Stay calm, and remember to breathe.

  • @Unseen_Soul

You are so smart. The fact that an Article about the reason why the PSN has been down for 2+ day would bring in a host of comments and complaints is utterly amazing. How could you have foretold such Prophecy you should be exalted and praised. Just one last thing What the hell did you think these comments were going to contain Rainbows and Gumdrops? Some of us pay for content we can not access currently. I for one do want to hear the complaints and would like to know how real the security risk was.

  • @ 114+ xXCoLtKiLLeR . you can do whatever you like to your system .. you just can’t create devices o derivitive works based on what you find in the process of reverse engineering AND THEN market that device with out proper licensing … that’s old school , text book patent law right there .. Sony didnt pull anything new that any other company can do .

yes … you can do whatever you want TO YOUR system . BUT the PSN is not yours , and just as any other network service has a right to dictate hardware /software for devices connecting to it so does SNEA .

yes you can do whatever to your system … just dont expect to be able market and manufacture a product baed on what you find OR prrovide a way for others to do so … george didnt get sued because one day he gt bored and tinkered with his ps3 . he got sued for trying to make money and providing others a means to based what he learned through reverse engineering .. old schoole patent law .. without it nobody could create anything without it being stolen right from beneith them.

  • I thank SCEA for doing what has to be done. These ‘hackers’ often claim to be doing this for the Community. We know better than that, don’t we? We know that they are doing it for their own egos, no matter if they insist they are doing this for us. Hackers are nothing more that internet toughs. They like to bully and look like heros. They aren’t They are nothing more than punks.

They have been claiming to do this for us. How so? I can’t go online to play online games, nor can I log onto Home. How is it that they are doing this for me.

Come on, hackers. If you have an issue with the PSN, why not deal with legally?

Better yet, can you, with all of your supreme powers, find Osama Bin Ladin?

  • @161

There is nothing wrong about demanding you not get charged for service you did not recieve. If its my choice to not play DCUO while I pay for the right too thats fine.If I can not play or access the service that I am paying for damn right they owe something. At very least the time I couldn’t get on. If this happens again it will cost them my subscription.

  • Oh noes! FML!!!! No PSN over Easter, my life is over!!!! *^^&$ you Anonymous!!!! etc. etc.

The network goes down the week Portal 2 is released. Hmmm… pretty obvious Gaben programmed GLaDOS to bring down Sony via Steam. I knew all this Valve love for Playstation was too good to be true…

  • oops and another thing …lol . The TOS really didn’t change that much when it changed over to SNEA , and another TOS was something THEY had to do in order to cover themselves legally … and if you’ve got such a problem with the TOS , why did you click AGREE ??? you can’t have your cake and eat it as well . if it was so disagreeable to you then the next logical thing is to not agree and then don’t use right ?

  • You may indeed have a right to your opinion, and the freedom to voice said opinion, but to demand anything is a bit ignorant. Especially over this. It makes you look petty, and foolish. I pay for many services myself and other products tied into the PlayStation Network, and yet you do not see me demanding anything. Yet I have the same freedoms and rights to do, so as you.

Then again I guess that is the difference between myself and them. I am able to be rational, and level headed. I do, not have to yell or be belligerent or conform with the masses. So, if you must form a petty mob and yell then do, so. Express your freedom(s), and rights as a persons of the free world. Not that it’s ever worked or been the right decision.

    — “The road to hell is paved with the best of intentions.” —

    — “Through Avarice Evil Smiles; Through Insanity it Sings.” —

I’m just saying that simply put. It’s not going work, or get you what you may feel you are entitled to. Just because, the internet offers “us” all the same anonymity does not mean we should behave so, foolishly and childishly.

  • @161 – C’mon. Seriously? I don’t know where you get your “information” from, but that’s BS. PSN is NOT up in Europe. The EU PSN Blog says the same thing as the NA Blog, nothing more. Not only that, but I have an “extra” PSN account for the EU region & I cannot log into PSN via that account, just like any North American account. I suggest getting your so-called “facts” straight.

  • I love seeing people get mad just because PSN is down. There are better things to do, like play outside, go see a movie, go do something that is at least productive you lazy Bas*****.

  • wipeout_god- yeah but it has been down for 3days and maybe the weather isnt so nice

  • hackers need to get a life and move out of their parents basement and get a real job

I’m suppose to be getting a voucher code from Sony anytime now for my 3 free games for the psp go that I bought couple of weeks ago and now I have to wait because of this

  • @170 – And yet, we find you trolling on a PSN blog. I LOL’ed at the irony of this. Shouldn’t you heed your own advice?

  • @160igorrocks2 hey dude I have a Europe account also and it is still down there has well

  • Well, I guess one good thing’s come of this.

In an effort to find some things to do offline, I’ve started playing with the track creator on ModNation Racers.

It’s actually a really powerful creator/editor. A couple more days of PSN closure and I might have designed a good track to share with the world :)

What offline games are you guys playing?

  • Better having PSN off than having a virus enter your system guys.

  • @ l176 lol technically there is no viruses for ps3 dude

  • @175 my brother created 10 trucks already I just bought the game for him this Wednesday ;(

  • he was really mad (12 years) and said to me to hack Anon group I said I am Professional IT person if I work in security department it doesn’t mean that I am a hacker

  • @igorrocks2

I’m really getting in to this creator mode on MNR. It’s crazy, I have ModNation and LittleBigPlanet 2, love playing the custom levels, but never really make anything myself. Now I’m designing MNR tracks and mods like crazy and hoping that PSN comes back soon so that I can download the “Unlock All” DLC to get access to all the stickers and items without grinding the single player

If this downtime goes on for too long I might have to fire up LBP2 too and see what I can make.

  • It has been over 3 days now and this is all you have to say about the issue, come on Sony fix this crap already.
