PSN Update

622 0

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

  • K, taking break from Mini Ninjas….sitting at 40%…think I have 4 levels to go until finished first run through, which should get my another 7 trophies (2 gold, 2 silver), which is about 1/2 of what I still need. I know, no one really cares, but at least I’m updating. :p

Now….what to play until its laundry time….hmmmmm

  • It’s sad that these people have enough time on their hands to custom build an OS to steal premium content but not enough time to find themselves a J O B so they can EARN the money to PAY for their content like the rest. What’s really sad is that we the customer and SCEA SNEA suffer the consequences of their actions.

And what’s really really sad is that when all of this is sad and done.. I wouldn’t be surprised if this little [DELETED] geohotz cuts a movie or book deal and profits even further off this disaster.

Sickening how the world works sometimes

  • @539

It’s amazing how we’ve got so many information regarding this situation from Kotaku, Destructoid, GamesThirst and others than Sony itself.
Of course, most of the information is just speculation. But Rebug’s website is there and the people in it are fervently working to make the situation even worse.
Man, I truly hope PSN gets a dreadnought level of security this time. But even then, fail0verflow once claimed that the PS3’s problems lie in its hardware, so the console is condemned to hacking no matter what solution is wrought. The best Sony can do is prevent its online service from being invaded, but only God knows how long its security will last.
All this hacking is a scourge IMO. This whole “I should be able to do what I want with my console” is leaving the doors open to endless exploits. If the PS4 had some TOS stating that I am only allowed to PLAY BOUGHT GAMES in my console, I would happily agree.

  • I’m surprised these hackers had no interest on the PSX (the overpriced PS2 v2.0) since it had a lot of things to be discovered there. I guess people are more interested in messing with what’s happening now, regardless of others’ enjoyment.
Sony, stop being greedy by putting a gazillion services like Linux on your next systems so the situation doesn’t open security breaches for these guys. The Online resource itself is dangerous, so it must be VERY limited regarding its accessibility.

  • Also, remember the Linux support on PS2?
Limited as heck, slow, rare as orichalcum and didn’t cause such a [DELETED] like the PS3.
    And it was advertised!

  • Well we hit over 550 comments and we didn’t get a new blog post.

  • I guess we need to get to like 600+ comments? =P

  • wait until 600

  • sony is most likely ignoreing all of you due to the rude comments. i hope we get an update soon sony

  • No statement today?

This is looking bad. My guess is that it won’t be back up until mid-May.

  • @555

    Pity.
There are tons of useful knowledge hidden between the complaints.
Only a fool would dismiss their users’ feedback because of a little swearing here and there.
Of course people must be polite, but still their voices must be heard regardless. It’s like working in Public Relations and expecting people only to praise you.

  • @Autoxfool ………… I got the slim from Kmart online, killzone bundle, included a $60 gift card, but with in store pickup option… sold my copy of KZ3 to my buddy at work for $40 then drove to Kmart & picked up the bundle… …… but this new “non-online accessible” feature is odd…. :)

  • Dont expect a new post on the subject for a while (at least not a posting that will reveal any new information). When Sony finishes their “rebuilding” then, if they choose, and only then will they explain what had happened…

    Good luck Sony.

  • Uh-oh, I haven’t seen a post for today yet, I hope I see one when I get back from work tonight. If not it might be panic time lol! Just kidding but I and just about every other PSN user hopes it is back this week, but I am still being patient for now. Good to hear the Infamous 2 beta testers don’t lose any beta days from the outage. Long live Playstation! Down with Anonymous!

  • I can live without multiplayer, but I hope this is the end of DRM crap. The thought of me not being able to play certain games in my collection because (insert reason there’s no PSN) is pretty sad. I hope that Sony makes it so that devs can’t do this any longer.

  • I guess it’s about time people start throwing Hadouken, Rasengan, and Kamehameha at PS Blog…LOL

  • @NeoHumpty
I agree. DRM is a stupid policy, and I hate how some games require you to be constantly logged in online to play. What an idiotic idea.

I mean why the hell would you want to be connected online if you’re not going to play online? You’re also unnecessarily using more power to keep the Wi-Fi connection on and you’re opening yourself up to the Internet. Anyway, why would you want to wear out the Wi-Fi card on the PS3 if you’re not going to be using online?

    >_>

They need to come up with a better way to do things.

  • Excuse me. Sony, but is the blog broken too? Why have all blog postings ended? I don’t mean an update to the PSN issue, I’m just talking about new posts by people from other companies…

Why put a pause on any developer posting something new.

Also, I am assuming that no new Share Ideas will be put up either…

  • ..because they’re working “around the clock” to “fix” the PSN (sarcasm)…

  • True.

We need a Sony translator. Allow me to attempt… “Working around the clock” is Sony talk for “Of course we’d like to fix the problem, so we will work more hours than normal, right after Easter is over.”

I have no problem with them taking Easter off because of the holiday, but why lie about it by saying “we’re working around the clock,” I know Americans are gullible, but come on, now. They should have just said that starting Monday, they’ll work more hours to fix the issue. I’m sure people would understand that Sony shouldn’t force their employees to work on Easter.

    Just a sprinkle of honesty….

  • I kind of wish they would give an estimate on the progress. They could divide it into steps to give us an idea of what’s going on.

    Step 1. Identify problem ?%
Step 2. Verify security of personal information ?%
Step 3. Update PSN security in a way that fixes problems ?%
Step 4. Turn PSN back on. ?%

The “?” represent the estimated % of the task completed.
They don’t have to be say how they are doing this if they don’t want to. Just as long as we get an estimate of the progress (that doesn’t mean they have to say when it will be back online, just revealing the number of steps in the process and the percent done on each one will be good enough for me. They can update the percentages when they need to for successes and setbacks.) There might be other steps to take into consider, but Sony could add them to the list.

  • @567: I guess to include any developer commenting on great games, DLCs and features that would be available but aren’t until further notice would be to add insult to injury…

  • rumor has it that the japan psn is officially up and running, anyone else hear this too?

  • It’s pathetic that Sony offers no information about this, in regards to a timeframe. Sony is being a little too tight lipped about the whole situation. Things like they don’t know if credit card information was stolen. That’s something they need to find out fast because that could mean some serious legal problems for this company. Threats were made about hacking, and Sony did nothing. They let it happen. Now we’re into the sixth day of this, and Sony has yet to offer any new information about anything. Every day this continues, they lose thousands, possibly millions of dollars in revenue, and they lose both potential and longtime customers who lose faith in the company and its security. I for sure am not buying the next sony console and going with microsofts because at least they communicat better with their customers.

  • Not sure i want another update blog post from SONY just to say they’re working hard to get the problem fixed. We all know that…

  • really !!!! come on SHUT UP!!!! STOP BAGGING ON SONY!!! IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THEN GET A XBOX 360!!!! REALLY! ALL OF YOU ARE BEINGS [DELETED]

  • @570: That seems to be the main problem with this issue right now. Downtime is regrettable yet understandable, but Sony’s PR team should be upfront about what is been done and what remains to be done to get the network running. I am not talking about specifics here, just a mere “we identified the problem and are now working on it”, “new information about the intrusion: please contact your bank and verify your credit card transactions” or “new hardware is being installed as we speak to work this up. It might take a while”…

So far, this has been a PR nightmare as much as a technical issue… however, while I can understand the silence from the IT crew as they are working on it, I can only interpret the same silence from the PR department as they hiding out and holding information; and its not like some PR people updating this blog is going to make the technical process move slower.

  • @574 i agree but they need to be given the heads up before releasing info…..
also they can only tell certain things, they aren’t in control of what they release.

  • so .. just wondering. assuming PSN doesn’t go back up tonight, and thus no store update – will plus users still get today’s scheduled freebies? I would assume so, figured it was worth asking. Was kind of looking forward to checking out Crash Commando.

  • Man another day is gonna go by… them stupid xbots are loving this. Iam getting sick and tired of arguing with them. Hurry up already!

  • @xxnike629xx
600+ is thinking to small! We need 1000+ minimum. Remember the Capcom giveaway posts of yor and aim to surpass them!

  • @shyguyNC
I’d have to guess that the PS+ users won’t get the freebies on account of the PSN being down.
Knowing Sony, they’ll eventually fix up the PSN, give us a half-assed apology saying they were sorry for the inconvenience and just go about the usual PSN/PS Store updates the starting the next Tuesday.

    >_>

  • OMGoodness…

    this has become RIDICULOUS !!!

SONY, what the He!! is going ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Let me help get this closer to 600

  • @sid4peeps
Sony is “working around the clock”. That’s what’s up…LOL

  • I mean God forbid, Sony actually fixes the PSN and gets it up…

  • Well, it seems SOMETHING is improving. I couldn’t leave comments here since the shutdown last week because I wasn’t logged into my PSN account on any of my browsers/computers when the network went down, but today it shows me as logged in (at least on THIS computer — not on my other, which still thinks I’m not logged in and won’t let me log in). So apparently some cookie that wasn’t being recognized last week is being recognized today. That’s a good sign, right?

  • i live in the uk so wednesday update for me! i think we will get our stuff, we pay for plus for [DELETED] sake! if not we will get a refund.

  • Guess this will be my last comment for this update. Honestly I find this whole situation interesting (comments in updates) and somewhat disappointing (lack of info from Sony). Really wish I got the email of my online buddies before the network cutoff :(

  • ULTRA COMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Viewtiful!! Marvelous!!!

  • Sony working around the clock, Bawaahahahahaha… Yes, i can see that…with all the UPDATES to the PEOPLE who keep money flowing into their pockets…

  • @fatjoe400
That’s how everyone feels. Pretty annoying that Sony is being so hush hush about the PSN. They blame outside intruders yet I keep getting the feeling that they screwed up internally and are simply blaming others, hoping people wouldn’t realize that Sony screwed up.

    Yea…

That “working around the clock” thing is a Public Relations/Marketing BS phrase. We know they don’t mean that but they need to say something.

For a multi-billion (or trillion?) dollar company, I’s pitiful they can’t get the network back up in like 2 days. I mean come on! This is the 6th day and still no signs of it coming back.
