PSN Update

622 0

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

  • This is Sony we’re talking about right? They were not working this weekend – it was a holiday Easter weekend. If they were a truly big company they would’ve had this problem resolved in a matter of hours, not days!

  • @238 Congrats!

  • @xxnike629

Man you post a lot. I never see you in any threads about game announcements or info on unreleased games or anything. What gives?

  • @jockrider

So you know the cause of the PSN outage? You think you can do any better? Care to fill us in?

  • The question I have is will Sony use this as an excuse to institute a subscription service for online like their competitor (I bought a ps3 in March just to get away from that extortion).

  • Call me an optimist, but I think this attack couldn’t have come at a better time. This gives Sony the motivation and time needed to make some major updates to the network and firmware. Let’s hope they find a way to stop people from cheating and messing with PSN in illegal manners. Anyone that bashes Sony for this downtime is being ridiculous. Quite frankly, it’s not entirely their fault. Just wait a month from now and you all will have forgotten about this. Just like when XBox Live was down for 2 weeks over Christmas. People forget and move on. Hopefully we’ll have a better network to play on out of all this!

Sony has always said that the PSN will always be free. There is certainly no reason to doubt this as this has been their stance each time they have been asked. Certain services may cost money via a subscription, but the Network as we know it will always be free.

  • Ok, I’ve seen a bunch of speculation of why people think PSN is down, and I thought I should just post what the community knows in comparison to what Sony is telling everyone. The truth is, there was a new CFW (custom firmware) released known as Rebug . It essentially turns a retail console into a dev console (not fully, but gives you a lot of the same options that usually dev’s only have access to). Anyway, this new CFW was quickly figured out to give CFW users access to the PSN network again via the dev networks. With a little manipulation of the URL’s through a proxy server you could get your hacked console back online. Not that big of a deal, right? Well, it also turns out that some people over at NGU found out that you could provide fake CC# info and the authenticity of the information was never checked as you were on Sony’s private developer PSN network (essentially a network that Sony trusted). What happened next was extreme piracy of PSN content. Sony realizing the issue here shut down the network. Now, before you go freaking out about the latest information posted about Kotaku, no ones personal information was accessible via this hack.

  • @ everyone. I just got off the phone with customer support. It’s pretty much a waiting game until it’s back up. So, they can’t provide us with any info except for waiting for the folks like Patrick Seybold to keep us up to date. As far as getting billed, they have no plans as far as compensation or reimbursement at this time.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I just did some dirty work instead of posting BS without the back up.

  • I never forget
    never forgive
    never … O.o

  • So, it’s an update without an update? Hmmmmm…
I believe since you know the general area in which the error is, it will be fixed soon. Hope so…

  • disclaimer the above post comes from psx scene
    Not me

  • this outage has given me the time i needed to beat little big planet 2 and start up portal 2

  • @B-Real206:

    Good looking out!

  • @Kai Lol i got my copy not so long ago. The singleplayer is really short. Like 6 hours. I have to wait to play the real joy of LBP the community levels

  • No prob, don’t know if it’s true but it sounds plausible. Take what you will from it

  • @B-Real206
So what you’re suggesting is that a group of people made a new Customer Firmware for the PS3 and then got into the PS Store and started “buying” everything at $0.00 and went crazy getting like everything they could, so Sony figured that to prevent this, they would shut down the entire network, revamp the security and structure of the network…?

  • i just wanna play online that all i want sony. day 5 with no PSN :(

  • That’s the best we can do at the moment

This is based on what? Did you report it, or did you decide to educate the public by sharing that information here?

In my line of business, even a small amount of information can be proven to be too much.I am sure there are a few here who will benefit from the information you have shared.

  • I love my playstation family and hate to see everybody at each others neck over this. It will get sorted out. Just have patience. If your worried about your credit cards do what any adult would do and call your card provider, let them know what’s going on and ask them to keep a look out on your transactions. I did. Other then that all you can do is wait. No amount of crying and stomping of feet is going to change that.

  • @B-real I agree nothing but a bunch of babies in here wahhhh wahhh wahhhhhh

  • @xxnike629xx I’m not suggesting anything. I read something, it sounded interesting and plausible and I figured my fellow gamers would maybe want to read it too. Like I said take what you will from it.

  • I personally feel as a plus member that for the money I’ve spent on the network, Sony’s more then paid me back with betas, free and discounted games that I couldn’t possibly stand there with my hand out demanding some kind of compensation. Sony is spending big bucks reconstructing the network for us, which costs them money. It’s not like it’s a free and easy task. So Sony, I say to you; If you need my $9.99 this month for Qriocity and it help with the funding to get stuff done, do it!!

If your true PSN peoples, help them by supporting them positively like most of you are!!

  • you are right SHOR73RM!

  • wow come on but ok but you guys need to like over haul the hole thing to make it worth while

  • @B-Real:

An the tip dawg, love it! Every time I finish a post cause I’m wrestling with my 1 1/2 y/o, you put the point out first before I can post.

    B-Real FTW!!

  • On* the tip, sorry

  • Oh and Nike, I’m a PS+ user and I wouldn’t dream of suing Sony because PSN is down. If you read the TOS instead of just hitting X to move along you would have read that PSN can go down at any time and the only thing Sony would owe you is the money in your PSN wallet.
It’s not a work computer or something were YOU are losing money. The only ones losing money is Sony.

Just curious what exactly would you sue for. Is your life in the toilet now or did PSN cause you some sort of bodily harm? Just curious not trying to flame.

With the downtime I’ve met alot of cool individuals through these post that I probably wouldn’t have met playing games. Silver lining….maybe

  • @Cyb3rfr34k:

We got to positive, right. If I worked at Sony and read the junk that some of these people are writing. I’d be like f these guys, what a bunch of punks!

  • @B-real he can go get aids or Hiv and sue sony saying because i couldnt stay home like i usually do and play online because you forced me off I instead went off and had relations which would have never happened if I was I able to play online ;) I can come up with a million reasons

  • Reason for outage attributed to Codename:Rebug, which allows custom firmware to steal software from the Playstation ‘Notwork’…
Go over to Joystiq dot com for the full story.

  • Yo SHOR73RM we are all gamers here going through the same problem if we can’t talk and help each other out what’s the use. Any info I can find that seems plausible I’ll share all the bullcrap conspiracy theories, I’ll leave out of it. Good looking on the call to support..

  • wow…people are really going through withdrawal.

  • Whoo-hoo I beat Joystiq!! lol! Their usually pretty slow with the news anyways

  • @SHOR73RM
yeah i know man. they are working really hard right now to get the psn back online. that’s for sure!
i love my ps3 and all my collection games, i’ll support Playstation until the end.

  • @Lopez ever think about becoming a lawyer. haha

  • OMG FOR HOW LONG??

  • Can we all get a special PSN avatar that says “Survived PSN Outage of 2011”?

  • One more thing before I go out for a bit.

I really hope after this sony starts laying out the BanHammer on users with custom firmware that get on PSN. You want homebrew fine I have no problem with that but you don’t get the whole cake. Just like they gave users who wanted to keep OtherOS the chance to do so but without PSN , keep homebrew stay off of PSN. Seems fair to me.

  • @ CHRIS-ROLO-COL

    nobody knowz.

  • @B-real Lol I should go to law school, but i coulnt make it without psn :o

  • I just hope it doesn’t screw anything up with our accounts. Although, we’re able to post on the PS blog normally so I’m assuming most of our accounts are still in tact. While you guys are making PSN more secure why not add in some new features just to be cool.

  • There not going to add any features besides we’re gonna have to pay starting July to play online

  • Lopez can I get a link to that, I highly doubt they are going to go to an all pay model right in the middle of this console cycle. Maybe on the PS4 but I’m almost positive the free model will remain throughout this generation.

  • I am sure that if peoples credit card data were stolen we would have known that by now. I think you can relax about that. If you are really concerned you can always call your bank and deactivate your card.

I hope that the network is even more secure and robust, performance wise when it is all said and done. This is a huge job to undertake and if they do manage to get it all working inside of a week it will be a big accomplishment.

    Keep the updates coming, Sony.

  • “As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly.”

    Translation =

We will have everything up and running tomorrow so we can milk you for our weekly 20 million.

Honestly, if they actually are not up for the store update, I’ll be shocked. Plus they probably think you’ll spend more money beings you have been left in the cold for a week.

  • I suspect a big firmware update for the PS3 very soon.

  • @+ Lopez9577 , unfortunatly your getting to be one of the bigger babies here

    few posts back

    259+ Lopez9577 on April 25th, 2011 at 2:54 pmsaid:I never forgetnever forgivenever … O. ”

what gives ??? is two people using your account ??? because you seem to quickly contradict yourself from one post to the next .

  • Still waiting on that link Lopez. If it’s true then cool but don’t go spreading false info. That’s what N4G is for lol
