Killzone 3 Steel Rain DLC Coming April 12, Free for Plus Members!

+ Posted by Aryeh Loeb

KZ_Steel

Back in February we revealed that we were working on a brand-new DLC Pack for Killzone 3 called Steel Rain. Today, we are proud to announce that the pack is finished and slated for a PlayStation Store release on Tuesday, April 12!

Steel Rain consists of two explosive new multiplayer maps inspired by locations from the single player campaign: Junkyard, a Guerrilla Warfare map which sees Jetpacks and Exoskeletons clashing in a rain-drenched junk processing facility; and Stahl Arms, a uniquely styled Warzone map set on the factory floor of one of Helghan’s largest weapons manufacturing plants.

The map pack will be available from the PlayStation Store April 12 for $4.99. PlayStation Plus members get a special treat: they can download the Steel Rain pack for free from April 12 through May 10!

Cole gains more and more abilities, becomes more and more powerful, and survives the gauntlet of Empire City… but he also is given a glimpse into his future. He realizes that even at the height of his powers, he is no match for the challenge that awaits. A battle with a great Beast looms, and Cole isn’t ready to face it.

New Resident Evil revealed in PlayStation: The Official Magazine

+ Posted by Gary Steinman

POM0511

We start with our cover story, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. First, a quick note about what Raccoon City is not. Raccoon City is not a survival horror game. Go on—let that sink in for a second. Yes, the granddaddy of survival horror breaks from the very thing that’s defined it for over 15 years, instead delivering a wholly unique squad-based shooter experience, with the talented folks at Slant Six now handling the development duties. We saw the game in action and survived to tell a tale of shambling zombies, elite operatives, and a mission to “kill Leon.” Indeed, nothing is sacred here, including the long-standing heroes of the Resident Evil franchise. We’ve got more stunning details about the game, but you’ll have to read them in our pages when the issue hits newsstands April 12.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy Coming to PS3 With 3D

+ Posted by Alex Monney

splinter cell

For the last few months, we’ve been working on bringing the first three Splinter Cell games – Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – to the PS3. Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher don’t need an introduction; these three games are highly acclaimed games and it has been a great pleasure for us to work on these titles.

The PS3 Game

When we started this project, one of our main goals was to provide the players with the best possible content. Hence we decided to port the game from the PC version which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy on PS3 will include:

  • Graphics in HD resolution
  • 3D Stereoscopic support for 3D TVs
  • Some exciting and challenging Trophies

Digital Comics Store Update

+ Posted by Grace Chen

Blog Post 2011-04-04

Hello and welcome to this week’s comic update!

The terrifying world of Resident Evil returns to comics with Resident Evil Vol. 2! The dedicated agents of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance face off against Virus-spreading bio-weapons both in space and on land. The Joint Nations Space Station has gone offline; BSAA Agent Mina Gere investigates and is confronted by a crew of flesh-eating bio-weapons; veteran mercenary Holiday Sugarman is sent to remote Grezbekistan, and his team won’t be around for much longer… A new chapter in the Resident Evil saga kicks off with a bang!

Our next highlight is an all-new beginning for the book that Wizard calls “the best original concept from Marvel in thirty years!”… Runaways (2005) is on! A group of teenagers discovers that their parents are actually super-villains, and they run away from home… only to find that nearly every bad guy in the Marvel Universe is trying to fill the power vacuum in Los Angeles, and they are the only ones who can stop them!

Dungeon Siege III Brings Accessible Controls, Bountiful Co-op to PS3

+ Posted by Sid Shuman

Dungeon Seige III

If you’re like me, the last time you played a traditional action-RPG on a console was probably Diablo for the PSone or Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2. Over the years, the action-RPG gameplay foundation — compulsive loot-hoarding and XP-grinding with liberal character progression and heavy replayability — has slowly but steadily infiltrated other genres, from shooters such as Borderlands and BioShock to pure RPGs such as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Dungeon Siege III brings the trend full circle, presenting a modern take on the classic overhead-view action-RPG.

Crucially, developer Obsidian Entertainment has put much work into making Dungeon Siege III play nice with the DualShock 3 controller without diluting the combat and inventory depth that genre fans have long adored.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Crowdsourced: Your make.believe Adventure Is Live

+ Posted by David Winding

LPB

During the past several weeks, Sony make.believe presented ”The “LittleBig Creation,” giving the community a chance to vote on every aspect of a new, custom-created make.believe level for LittleBigPlanet 2.

The polls have closed and your voices have been heard!

We asked you which genre and environment you wanted to see, and you chose an action-adventure level set in the jungle. The storyline, also chosen by you, involves Sackboy’s quest to find the mysterious “dot” that will help unleash the world’s creativity. It won’t be easy, as he’ll need to navigate treacherous terrain, solve puzzles, and avoid deadly enemies including some particularly nasty tigers (thanks to your votes!). Everything from the music used in the level to the name (the make.believe Adventure) was the result of community polling.
