PlayStation-Default

Joint Statement

Sony Computer Entertainment America (“SCEA”) and George Hotz (“Hotz”) today announced the settlement of the lawsuit filed by SCEA against Hotz in federal court in San Francisco, California. The parties reached an agreement in principle on March 31, 2011. As part of the settlement, Hotz consented to a permanent injunction.

Both parties expressed satisfaction that litigation had been quickly resolved. “Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us,” said Riley Russell, General Counsel for SCEA. “Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal.”

See SOCOM 4’s Benefaction: How to Beat a Level Without Firing a Shot

SOCOM 4

With SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals just a week away from launch and hundreds of thousands of gamers gleefully sneaking and shooting in the SOCOM 4 Open Multiplayer Beta, we wanted to debut a new campaign chapter exclusively on the PlayStation.Blog. In the single-player chapter Benefaction, team SOCOM is still unraveling the true scope of the threat to the world economy. The level winds through a dense jungle, then culminates in a large-scale beach ambush as enemy tanks and equipment are unloaded. To win, you have to fend off waves of enemy troops while targeting the tanks with air strikes. Not an easy battle!

Watch the video above and let us know what you think of Benefaction’s epic beach shootout, and how you plan to approach combat when SOCOM 4 hits PS3 on April 19th.

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

+ Posted by Jeff Rubenstein

What-We-Read-Tag

I expect that this particular column will be a lot longer next Sunday. Over the course of this coming week, we’ll be previewing some of our biggest upcoming titles for media: inFAMOUS 2, Twisted Metal, Ratchet & Clank All4One, Resistance 3, UNCHARTED 3. You’ll see reams of stories from your favorite sites about these heaviest hitters, and we’ll summarize a good deal of them here (in addition to our own coverage).

Between that and Patapon 3 – it’ll be a great week!

The PlayStation Recap

+ Posted by Sid Shuman

recap

A surprisingly strong week for PlayStation news: Ubisoft revealed that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy is bound for the PS3 with 3D in Blu-ray and PSN flavors, David Jaffe confirmed Twisted Metal’s October 4th release date, Sucker Punch Productions unveiled a potent new inFAMOUS 2 video focused on Cole’s new ice and oil powers, and we announced that specially marked copies of SOCOM 4 would include access to the upcoming Resistance 3 Open Multiplayer Beta. Not bad!

In other news, the tension is steadily building for April 19th, which sees a quartet of eagerly awaited PlayStation releases: SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals, Mortal Kombat, and Portal 2 for PS3 and Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection for PSP.
